Measurer For Measurer

“How long would it take for my fingernails to grow across the bedroom?”

“Could I fit in that box?"

“How far can I throw this wadded up ball of paper into the trash, relative to a basketball shot from NBA three point range?”

These are the hypothetical questions we ask ourselves to distract from real problems that need solving. And they have remained purely imaginary — fanciful.

Until now.

With this laser measurer you can take precise distance readings and instantly send them to your phone via Bluetooth. Do you need to send them to your phone? Well, define “need.” Feel free to do measurements the old fashioned laser-distance-measurerer way, jotting numbers down on a notepad, or the wall, or your hand. You don’t “need” to send them to your phone, and as long as you never drop anything, or sweat too much, you’ll probably be fine. But we’re selling this Bluetooth one for cheaper than most of the normal ones without Bluetooth, so unless you’re allergic to Bluetooth, it can’t hurt. (It can hurt plenty if you’re actually allergic to Bluetooth.)

Let’s say you want to answer a question we have all contemplated, such as: “If both my child, Agnes, and ficus plant, Gertrude, kept growing at their current rates, if and when would Agnes overtake Gertrude?”

To answer this question, of course, you would need to determine the growth rate of both Agnes and Gertrude. With this laser measurer you could measure the distance between Agnes’s head and the ceiling and the top of Gertrude’s loftiest front and same over the course of several weeks, upload the results to your phone at each measurement, and, at the end of the growth-rate-determination phase, have data like these:

Which you could then turn into a graph like this:

Which makes it look like poor sweet Agnes will never overtake the mighty Gertrude. But if you add a linear trendline and extend it:

Aha! Now we can see that, if all holds constant, wee little Agnes will overtake Gertrude in approximately 1000 weeks, or about 20 years.

And how could we have possibly determined that without a Bluetooth-enabled laser measurer?
