Hey, it’s me, the cement floor in your basement.
How’s July been treating you? You and the family got any big trips planned? Maybe a nice weeklong vacation. Or, how about just a nice afternoon at the town pool? Maybe you can get a day pass to the water park. Or catch some post-All-Star-break baseball action.
Get it? Catch some baseball? Eh?
Anyway, wouldn’t that be nice?
I wouldn’t know.
You see, I maintain a temperature of about twenty-two degrees well into the long, hot days of summer. It might be almost August above ground, but down here, it’s 52 weeks of January.
Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating. Maybe it’s not that cold, but rather, your body has adjusted to the warmer climate, and now I just feel that cold in contrast.
But the point stands: it’s unpleasant.
Throwing a load of laundry into the machine? That’s a treacherous little trip.
Doing any project that requires prolonged contact with my frigid surface? Your lower digits are gonna be numbed out before you can say, “radiant heat, please.”
