- 0 grams of sugar (but stevia)

- Can this make a margarita: No, but maybe try blending it with a White Russian?
Powder Power
Here are the facts about this stuff:
- It has 20 grams of protein and 0 grams of sugar per serving.
- The protein is of the pea variety.
- It gets its sweetness from stevia.
We put this right here at the beginning because if any of these things strike you as a no-go, we want you to know without having to do any sleuthing. So there you have it: don’t like pea protein and/or stevia? Get your protein powder somewhere else.
If, on the other hand, you use pea protein all the time and don’t mind the taste of stevia, then 4 bags for $36 is a great deal on a product that usually sells for 34 bucks per bag.
Now, all of you in the middle–you’re the interesting ones.
We’re talking about those of you who don’t have super strong feelings one way or the other when it comes to pea protein and/or stevia, are curious about trying this stuff, but are (reasonably) worried you won’t like it.
To you, we say this: something we’ve learned from watching too many episodes of Chopped is that you can hide any ingredient if you really try. In fact, you can hide ingredients so well as to make Geoffrey Zakarian say something like, “I’m not getting any pepperoni in this ice cream sundae.”
But, whereas in the Chopped kitchen this is a bad thing given that the whole point is to highlight the basket ingredients, at home, who cares?
Just put this stuff in a blender with some milk, some ice, a banana, and some peanut butter. Then, blend it up and drink it. If it tastes like a delicious chocolate peanut butter banana smoothie, awesome. If it tastes like a delicious peanut butter banana smoothie, that’s awesome too. After all, the powder will supply the protein whether you taste it or not.
And, if it’s a little grainy, then adjust your proportions next time. You’re getting plenty of powder to experiment.
In conclusion: if you definitely want it, buy it. If you definitely don’t want it, don’t buy it. And if you maybe want it, maybe buy it.
Just amazing advice, right? This is why they pay us the big bucks.
