“Well, it’s just that I sensed something before,” Chad said. “This whole ordeal, how subtle you were with the toast and all that–it seems like you kinda want to get up to some really gnarly stuff. To really unleash the terror you’ve trained to do for however long you’ve been stuck in this place.”
“I mean, sure,” said the smoke man. “I did feel eager to haunt before, but that was only until you agreed and told me you felt no fear.”
“But that’s what I’m saying,” Chad said. “You could have it both ways. You can’t destroy the world, but what if you took twenty-four hours and did some really bonkers targeted haunting, and then I came and freed you at last?”
The smoke man considered this a moment. “It is appealing, to be fair. But who would I haunt?”
“I know some people,” said Chad, “who might appreciate a little scare.”
