The beauty of boring.
Sometimes people ask us exactly what we mean by “Meh”. Are our products supposed to be shitty? Is it an ironic thing because we’re really so exciting? No. We picked it for a few reasons: because we’re burned out on retail hype, because it’s the spiritual opposite of Woot, and because we want you to know that we know how blah so many products are, including some that we sell.
Meh is a null state of shopping emotion, a perfect ideal of unremarkable mediocrity, the sound of one hand shrugging. As a name for this store, Meh gives us the freedom to sell middle-of-the-road stuff without pretending it’s the greatest thing since the Zune. We’re not kidding ourselves: some days around here, the only interesting thing is the price.
This speaker is exactly what we mean by “Meh”.
The Eclipse X-Stream is a living example of zen and the art of retail indifference. It’s a pebble in the stream of pure Mehness. It does something you may or may not find useful (play audio from any Bluetooth-equipped device or through a 3.5mm aux-in) in a way that you will definitely not find remarkable. There is so little to say about it that, although it’s been available on Amazon for two and a half years, nobody has ever posted a review.
It’s not “bad”. There’s nothing “wrong with it.” There’s no reason to condemn it. Or celebrate it. It simply is. And it is perfect in its just-sitting-there-ness. If you’re expecting a transcendent Bluetooth speaker at this price, you missed that whole thing. The Gilded Bluetooth Age is over… unless this is still it. “Someday, perhaps,” as Aeneas said “remembering even this will be a pleasure.” You never know when you’ve hit bottom until you start floating back up.
Anyway, buy this Eclipse X-Stream Bluetooth Speaker, or click the Meh button, or release yourself from any obligation to feel any emotions at all about it. And remember that feeling the next time you wonder what “Meh” is supposed to mean.
