@JonT I would be glad to continue seeing speakers as long as you continue bundling them with random stuff like those sunglasses from a while ago. Speakers + Sushi kit? I am in!
Well look who decided to show her ugly fucking face again, Twofer Tuesday, that dirty temptress. In the past a man of my impulsivity may have been drawn in by your tricks. But I say...NAH. Chalk one up for me, in your face, meh.
@studerc hey my first fukubukuro was a few days after my son was born. He was kind enough to wake me for midnight meh session and it was the 2nd fukubukuro! I had hoped for just diapers and wipes. No luck :( I did get a very nice speaker dock.
@robson and any time they are steak or kitchen knives, or otherwise knives are ^> speakers, until they get me a Klipsch or other quality speaker. BTW! we and my in-laws are really enjoying our Emerson HDTVs
@RogerWilco I think all the mediocre staff like them enough for you to buy them. Hell, I don't have them and I like them enough for you to buy them. I think it says more that she liked them enough to buy them herself.
i wish i could share the meh with all suckers who are thinking of buying anything labeled Eclipse. Remember that Coby CD player you bought because it was so much cheaper than the Sony Discman? Remember when it broke 3 months later? The 2 eclipse items I've bought to date were so completely useless due to poor design and poorer software that i threw then away before they could break! Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, fuck you Eclipse.
Yeah that 80Hz spec is suspect at best unless they left off a +/-12dB. You're not hearing anything close to that low from drivers that small in a Bluetooth speaker. I doubt the amp even goes that low. Still a great deal for $8, just don't expect that bass.
@GyroDragona They already have stereo output, each speaker has 2 x 2W drivers. You could get a stereo Y cable and get quadraphonic-ish sound via the line in if you want.
@kuoh I am not sure that two speakers in a single enclosure that small would have the same effect and true stereo with a bit of distance between the speakers. Eh, I am not really expecting a lot from these but it would have been nice.
@boygenius1991 Actually, I bet some non-craptastic speakers would go over well. These aren't even up to a Meh rating as far as I can see (hear). But some nice Altec-Lansings or Klipsch speakers portable, bluetooth, or otherwise, and you got my number.
@PhysAssist Actually, after testing many compact portable speakers, I much prefer JBL compacts (sound clean and with tight bass unlike the boomy crap in most small speakers) to Altec Lansing compacts (sound cheap and weak). While many electronics brands have gone thru some odd ownerships, AL has been on the losing end too many times.
@RedOak To each his or her own, but you have to admit that in general AL would be preferable to an Eclipse speaker that NO ONE has reviewed, much less heard of. FWIW, I do like my AL iM227 Orbits- though they do sound better with some pumping up of the volume [and can handle it] ;-)
@PhysAssist the challenge with comparing historical AL models is you don't know which of 3-5 AL brand owners over the past 10 years designed/manufactured each model.
@RedOak Nope, I just know the ones I own now. I used to love their book shelf speakers way back when but they tended to out of my $ reach as a broke-ass college student.
Hmmm... hacker's delight. Small, cheap. I'll take a drill to it and fit it with a mini stereo jack and drive a bigger speaker with it. steep-perforated-cap
I was trying to buy this thing while riding a stationary bike. The captcha had a page of food, and I had to pick out the cakes. Now I'm having a snack instead of exercising.
Burrito's are also 2 for $9. Its a tough sell, do I? don't I? I dunno. I guess we can use these camping and when the kids leave them outside in the rain, we can just toss them by the side of the road like the garbage they are. nice.
@eyewerks The staff at the Chipotle near my office are some of my favorite people. And they always take good care of me (they wash their hands and change their gloves when they see me in line). I'm more than happy to give them $11+ (steak, guac and a large drink) at least once a week. Though I get the salad and not the burrito. I forgive them for being trendy.
Was about to click "buy" before I rembered it was Tuesday. If this were an L/R set, instead of two separate functionally mono speakers, I'd have bought it in a heartbeat- even if cabled rather than BT.
Bought it. I have one kinda crappy bluetooth speaker already, paid three times this amount, and it's got the same connector, so the chargers I've left all over the place when I bring it with me can still be used, and I don't have to cart it around anymore. Hooray!
Mine arrived in the mailbox yesterday. Quick review:
Damn, y'all are spoiling me with the fast turnaround. Now where the fuck is my fuko? Ha. Where's my fuko, fucko?
Decent sound. Not at all bad for $4.50. Heavier bass than small speakers typically have. Maybe slightly muted on the high end.
There are in fact speakers on each side of each unit--so conceivably that means they could deliver stereo.
Given the placement of the actual speaker cones, these actually project better than other bluetooth speakers I've purchased from meh. Works better in the bathroom over the fan. I could easily crank it up to play over the shower, but my use case makes this rude to my housemates.
Actual volume control on the top. Which is nice when the originating device is plugged in in another room and you want to adjust levels.
I think they're kinda cute.
My main complaint--these are good speakers, great for the price--is that they make a loud noise when turning on and turning off. Which, yaknow, I suppose that might be a desirable enhancement in someone's mind.
This is all just ripped out of the box, charged and played. I didn't waste time on any stinking instructions. And I didn't even fiddle with them much. Maybe later. But I think that quick unpack to productive use time speaks well. Well, I mean, not that a bluetooth speaker is complicated to operate. I'm rambling now . . .
@joelmw BTW, @MEHcus and @hollboll Fedex shows a delivery exception on this package. Rest assured, it arrived and I have it. Just don't let my fuko get lost.
Anybody has problems charging the speakers? Mine does not charge at all! I had it plugged in for hours and it turned on for less than a minute and went dead. Ugh
Speaker 1: Won't turn on unless it's plugged in. Will connect to Bluetooth but shuts off after the sound is played for <0.5 seconds. If I use the aux-in port, the same thing happens (will play for <0.5 seconds tops before turning off). In other words, this speaker doesn't work.
Speaker 2: It works. But, there's this awful whining sound when using Bluetooth, even when the device it's connected to isn't playing anything. If I use the aux-in port, the whining sound disappears.
I think one works. It seems to charge and can play at full volume anyway. The other didn't do either so I took it apart to see how it ticks. It doesn't actually tick, but it does buzz and the blue LEDs do stuff. 1-fer-9 is fine by me, and now I may or may not have a replacement battery if I need it... and if I can find where I put it by the time I need it.
Arrived in the mail yesterday. Opened one and let it charge all night, but it won't turn on. Plugged it into a different outlet with an USB adapter before I left for work today. I'll update when I get home tonight.
If they don't work, can I get a replacement or something?
@aperfecttool72 OK. Home. Had the wife plug in the other while I was at work.
The one i has charging overnight and all day while i was at work will turn on while plugged in, but immediately goes off when unplugged and will not even turn on when unplugged.
And... The same happens to the other my wife plugged in while i was at work.
Neither are holding a charge. So, contact support?
@JonT Got an auto reply since I sent the email after I got home from work (I work late 2nd shift EST). Got an auto reply after that but nothing during the day today. I'm guessing your backed up service wise?
@aperfecttool72 that's correct, but we've made a lot of progress and most requests are being responded to within 2 or 3 days. Keep in mind that our CS team does not work on weekends so that may add a few days.
Nasty may be an over statement on my part. I did however let them know that I had one that didn't work, and questioned if there was a way to recover from such a loss.
I brought 6 of these and they were to be gifts but after opening 1 and finding it does not charge at all. I opened 3 more and now out of 4 opened ones only 2 will hold a charge the others only work if they are plugged in. This was my first and could be my only purchase from this site. I have made over 50 buys on woot over the years and they all worked.
@mscheryl "I have made over 50 buys on woot over the years and they all worked." Wow. That's impressive. Woot sent me a sizeable amount of broken crap over the years. What do you want, though-- this is a deal site for discontinued or unwanted shit. You can't really expect a Tiffany's experience, can you?
Am I the only one who purchased a pair of these and they both actually work? Haven't had problems with either of them. Use them every day. It was a little disconcerting that the light went off rather quickly after I started to charge--but they both seem to have taken the charge. Also, I have to hold the power button for what seems an excessively long time to get them to turn on and off (and that noise I mentioned earlier). There's also a little popping sound a few seconds after turning them off. I know, that's a lot of "ands," but nothing that actually affects performance. More quirks, than problems. I use them on bluetooth at a range of 20-30ft. Perfect for my needs. And the sound is good (though admittedly, I've mostly listened to Morning Edition on them so far).
@joelmw I was actually surprised to read how many issues these are having. I bought them for myself and mine have worked perfectly thus far. However, I haven't actually had to charge them yet so we'll see if my story changes when that time comes.
@narfcake After I confirmed with the stepson that the noise isn't waking him up, cranked the Morning Edition up to 11 this morning. Yeah, 'cause that's how I roll. Public radio, baby. Speakers working great.
Wow, what are we looking at here, >50% failure rate? I received 2, only one works (and has a kind of constant low-level "hhhnnngggg" sound, like Uncle Toby used to make when he was on his way out).
Sent support email. Pretty sure only way to make up for this is to send me a new TV.
Of my two, neither work unless plugged in, and one seems to stop working periodically even while plugged in. I contacted Meh support 2 days ago, but other than the auto response I have yet to hear from them. On the flip side I am pretty happy/amused with my FUKOBUKURO, even if the crappy video recorder did not have a video on it.
This Bluetooth speaker works great, especially with iOS 8.3 update released this week which improves WIFI and Bluetooth connections. Using one now and the other will be kept for backup. Very pleased.
I suppose I should open mine and see how bad it is... I only bought two, so if one works, screw it. If both work, hooray! If none work, then I'll go incredible hulk on my keyboard, and probably won't be able to send an email to support asking politely for a fix.
Looks like I have the same no charge / disconnection issue others have reported. The red LED does not light up when connected to any USB port or charger, but will illuminate if the device is turned on. It will only work when connected to a power source and appears to play music for about 5 - 10 seconds, then silence. The blue LEDs still indicated it is connected, but there is no sound. Sometimes the unit will also turn off randomly after a short delay. I'm guessing it's the battery going completely dead and the charging circuit isn't able to keep up. I tried standard PC USB ports as well as other chargers capable of 1A. Looks like it's off to Meh support to find out if these gift items are just going to become more landfill.
So I got curious and disassembled one and as I suspected it was a battery issue. It uses a standard Lion battery, but has probably been sitting around for so long that the battery has failed. Mine measured barely over 1 volt after taking it off the charger for 5 minutes. These should normally never go below 3 volts or permanent damage occurs. While connected, the terminal voltage varies between 4 and 4.2 volts, which is normal charging voltage. It would be a simple job to replace the battery, but finding a supplier that would sell it at the price we'd accept (probably less than $1) is highly unlikely. Here's a image of the battery in case anyone is interested. KuoH
Neither of mine hold a charge either. They work great while plugged in with no issues so far but the batteries are deader than meh was at 2100 PDT on fuko 3 day.
Meh support finally got back to me, said that Mach Speed Technologies, apparent distributors of Trio Tablets, are handling this. Contacted Mach Speed and a day later they told me that they couldn't handle support for this thing over the web and that I must call in. Not being handled very elegantly. It's like they're intentionally beating into you a careful consideration of how much your time is worth vs. how much these things cost.
Guess I'll update. Anyone else getting this any easier?
@deafinoneear Nope, Meh emailed me the same thing, but with a new job, I haven't had the time to call during business hours. Guess they win this round, it isn't worth the time it'll take to recoup the $8 and worse if the manufacturer wants the failed ones sent back.
@deafinoneear@JonT Boy, that's a shit sandwich company. Tried talking to an agent who didn't get that Mediocre doesn't send email receipts by default, he wasn't having it. Then, when he asked me date of purchase and I told him I couldn't find it because I was driving, he straight up hung up on me. Called back, got an RMA, but I'm paying shipping? ........................................................ Hey meh? This isn't right. You don't ship a defective product and then have the consumer incur extra charges to remedy the defect. Can I just get a refund here?
Hey Guys I called the phone number for Trio Tablets and I got someone. After they ask me like 20 questions I was given a Return number and they said they are going to email me a return form and an address to send the non working speakers back to. I do not think this will be a prepaid label so the return shipping with come out of my pocket (Which is not fair) I am awaiting the email. Do not know if it is worth sending in on my dime. I still have 2 out of the six I got not opened yet. Will not be giving these as gifts or eben stocking stuffers.
I got contacted back from Trio. The sent me a form, number and a link that states they need me to ship them back, and that I am expected to pay any shipping fees. For two of them dead out of the box, I am pretty unhappy about all of this. I am unsure if it is worth the time or money to ship them back.
I am curious what Meh take on sending out defective product then us having to ship them back to another company on our dime...
@pburkej I had the same result. After looking into shipping costs to ship them back, the cheapest I found was $7 from the post office assuming they will fit into the small size flat rate box. Definitely cheaper in both time and money to just throw them away and wash my hands of this mess all together.
@Saffer49 Yeah, I doubt I will ship mine back too. I have bought a fair amount from Meh, and thus far this is the only really bad experience. It is hard to be too angry over $8, but obviously so many of these are just broken straight out of the box, I am kind of hoping Meh steps up and maybe offers some sort of credit.
Did anyone get these to work with Windows 7 and bluetooth? My computer can see both of them, but it saying there are no drivers installed for it. It doesn't actually connect via bluetooth, it just stays in sync mode.
I did manage to get one to work on my windows 8 laptop, so I know one at least has the capability to work.
I would be interested to know if anyone does return to Trio do the replacements work any better? It might be worth the shipping to get working items, but it is certainly not worth it if we end up in a circle with mediocre products. This is the first time I have received anything for Meh that had issues. Not upset, just curious.
Been trying to get through to the Mach Speed support line for 3 days now with no success. Now with seeing the above of people who did get through to them... really? Geez.
I'll just trash the broken things I guess. Maybe I can get my VMP extended by a month or something?
Well, rather than throw good money after bad, I decided to see if I could get one of mine working. The good news, it now works and will hold a charge. The bad news, it is now a potential fire hazard / grenade and sounds like crap compared to a smaller Nakamichi Round speaker. Granted the Nakamichi cost me $10 for only one, but the sound quality is much better and is about twice as loud as the Eclipse.
The battery was completely dead and I had to bypass the inline protection circuit to put a charge into it. Once it saw that the battery had a normal voltage, it then allowed normal charging to proceed. After running about 5 test cycles at 200-300 mA load, the battery developed a slight bulge. It's not easy to see in the image, but you might be able to make it out. Basically, the battery will continue to bulge as it is used and will eventually stop holding a charge or burst, so there's no chance I can gift this to someone, unless it's someone I really hate.
As for the sound quality, there is no bass to speak of and the highs are rather dull, despite having 2 drivers and a passive radiator in the bottom. This is due to among other things, the relatively small size of the drivers. Compared to the Nakamichi's single driver, the Eclipse is about half the size and just can't deliver the proper lows or highs. You can kind of make out the difference in one of the images. Despite the size of the speaker opening in the Eclipse case, it's only the silver part that's the driver.
So the short version is it isn't worth the money to send these back and get questionable ones back that won't sound any better. They would've been worth the Meh asking price, if they had worked out of the box.
I just got around to opening one of these today & I'm now waiting to see if it will keep a charge. But I was gobsmacked by what they call their User's Manual: it's a piece of paper covered with a typeface so small that I can only presume the instructions try to be in English. I'm not kidding when I say that I can't read it; I have to try to find the magnifying glass that came with my compact edition of the OED. If I can't find it, I suppose I could scan the thing & try to blow it up. (I've already tried to find this online but with no luck.) As it is, I'm not sure it's worth the bother. Ah, poop.
Buyer Beware...if you buy something from Meh.com and it's defective, you will have to pay the return shipping and it takes weeks for them to resolve the issue.
My experience with meh.com has actually been much more positive. I purchased 3 sets of speakers. 2 out of 3 sets worked, and meh.com reimbursed me for the set that didn't work.
It appears that meh is advising I contact the manufacturer. I did so and the manufacturer requires that I return the faulty product to them on my dime. This is not a good experience.
@Kurtois Reply to Meh support and tell them that- maybe Meh support can do something, maybe they can't, but they should know at least for future reference.
@dashcloud I received a message from support. They appear to have credited my account half the purchase cost to cover the shipping back to the manufacturer. I would call that good customer service. Thank you, meh.

Speak for yourself, but I am turned off by the MINI USB.
Heads up labcoat guys: Speaker on the manufacturer's website says $19.99 now.
@Tiverty That's for one and today Meh is offering two.
@cengland0 You are right, good critical thinking skills!
@cengland0 ... For less than HALF that!! (with 'vmp' of course).
@Tiverty and it is $15.99 at REI (for one) and if you are a member you will get money back at the end of the year (usually around 10%)
Meh....c'mon where are the monitors you used to sell
@JeepDude I agree, bring back the mediocre panels you used to get Meh, ill be in for at least one if you get 23" variants
Well look who decided to show her ugly fucking face again, Twofer Tuesday, that dirty temptress. In the past a man of my impulsivity may have been drawn in by your tricks. But I say...NAH. Chalk one up for me, in your face, meh.
@studerc wow, I'm surprised! I thought you'd be on board for sure. I guess repeatedly beating you with speakers only works for so long...
@JonT Maybe he is finally broke?
@Kidsandliz Im a teacher, im always broke.
@JonT I know, right. The wife cut back my budget because of the upcoming first born. Understandably of course, but at the same time it is still sad.
@studerc Seems unreasonable to me. Obviously you should start buying stuff for the kid to get them used to shopping here. ;)
@JonT don't get any ideas about selling baby diapers and wipes.
@JonT she can be a real ball buster for sure. I am not however, ruling out "meh" as baby's first word. Im shooting for it.
@RedOak @JonT....dude diapers, sell those. Not refurbs though, please for the love of god.
@studerc ... Just make it asswipes and get it over with!
@studerc hey my first fukubukuro was a few days after my son was born. He was kind enough to wake me for midnight meh session and it was the 2nd fukubukuro! I had hoped for just diapers and wipes. No luck :( I did get a very nice speaker dock.
@studerc I don't really care what it is so long its a two for Tuesday!
@studerc throwing around that teacher-money. Nice.

Anyone have reviews of this? I couldn't find them anywhere.
@pyro is it wrong to say they're "meh"?
I would like to know too though
@pyro we tried them out in the office today. Liked em enough to get em :)
@hollboll but did you like them enough for me to get them?
@hollboll how would you rate them against the other kinds like this you have carried?
@RogerWilco I think all the mediocre staff like them enough for you to buy them. Hell, I don't have them and I like them enough for you to buy them. I think it says more that she liked them enough to buy them herself.
@Kidsandliz I'd say they're similar to the X-minis we had a ways back. Sounded pretty good. :)

Eclipse speakers....nope, see, like I say, there's nothing I can do...
I bought some. At $9 + shipping (if applicable), it's pretty hard to go wrong. Will update if these catch on fire and burn my house down.
@dongism same. I mean it's two of them for 9$. Worst comes to worst, you pawn them off as christmas gifts
@dongism - Got mine. Meh... not impressed.
At least they are Campbell's Soup compatible. Still not a good enough reason to buy. Meh.
"Meh gives us the freedom to sell middle-of-the-road stuff without pretending it's the greatest thing since the Zune."
So....when are you gonna put some Zunes up for sale??? Or at least some Sansas.....
@eeterrific @Moose is a huge Zune fan, maybe you can buy his for a premium.
@JonT I'm a huge zune fan. No zune fan will ever sell their zune. Mostly because it still works like a champ!
Eh, I need a crappy speaker to take stoned camping, and this comes with a replacement for when the first one dies. Ya got me this time...
@deltahaze I bet "stoned camping" was number 1 on the list of potential use cases when they created these.
@JonT I'm sure they were stoned when they wrote this lol
... omfg.
I'm pretty sure I'm only VMP in order to stock up on trash to give away for raffles and white elephant holiday parties, at this point.

Found by using Google Image search - handy stuff.
@RedOak I dont like rebranding with out knowing the true MFG
@RedOak I sure hope it's not the same for those people who said they spent $40+ on 1 of them. Talk about getting ripped off.
@RedOak The Satechi are listed at 7 oz, while these are 5 oz. I hope that doesn't mean these are the even crappier knock offs.

@sciencefly.. Maybe you got the ones made in India..
Wow these look like they suck, but it's hard to complain at $9 shipped for 2 if you are a VMP. I'm still passing.

Do they have a mode for using two of them linked together to get stereo output?

Hmmm... hacker's delight. Small, cheap. I'll take a drill to it and fit it with a mini stereo jack and drive a bigger speaker with it.

@PocketBrain Thats a nice cap.
How do you get stereo from one speaker ?
@cranky1950 It looks like it potentially has speakers on each side.
Don't want, but this is the type of thing Meh should have every day: cool gadgets, at a price so low that it's almost too low to pass up....

Burrito's are also 2 for $9. Its a tough sell, do I? don't I? I dunno. I guess we can use these camping and when the kids leave them outside in the rain, we can just toss them by the side of the road like the garbage they are. nice.
@lumber5607
@lumber5607 where are you getting these burritos and are they any good?
@lumber5607 Where do you get your burritos? I pay over $9 for one at that awful trendy Chipolte place
I totally thought the title said "The Beauty of Boning."
I had to buy just b/c of the awesome write-up. Right-on, Meh.
Bought it. I have one kinda crappy bluetooth speaker already, paid three times this amount, and it's got the same connector, so the chargers I've left all over the place when I bring it with me can still be used, and I don't have to cart it around anymore. Hooray!
Yeah bought two woohoo
Have a friend that's been itching for a cheap bluetooth speaker. Mission accomplished. Ironic image search... passionate-ghoulish-shame
Got this for my fictional-outrageous-railway.

Mine arrived in the mailbox yesterday. Quick review:
This is all just ripped out of the box, charged and played. I didn't waste time on any stinking instructions. And I didn't even fiddle with them much. Maybe later. But I think that quick unpack to productive use time speaks well. Well, I mean, not that a bluetooth speaker is complicated to operate. I'm rambling now . . .
@joelmw BTW, @MEHcus and @hollboll Fedex shows a delivery exception on this package. Rest assured, it arrived and I have it. Just don't let my fuko get lost.
@joelmw Awesome, thanks for the quick review on these! Consider your fuko lost though, that's just how unlucky bags work man. It's science.
Anybody has problems charging the speakers? Mine does not charge at all! I had it plugged in for hours and it turned on for less than a minute and went dead. Ugh
@shaine228 Neither of mine charge at all. They simply don't work unless plugged in
@pburkej I brought 6 of them so far opened 4 and only 2 work the others do not hold a charge.
Got mine one works the other doesn't. What can I do meh?
@lutopia email meh @ https://meh.com/support
@communist Thank you!
Already emailed support at https://meh.com/support
@aperfecttool72 I had a similar issue... I just sent them a nasty email... We shall see... We shall see.
@laydupp_stankin why a nasty one? Screws fall out all the time, the world is an imperfect place.
@aperfecttool72 You got it, https://meh.com/support and we'll take care of you.
@JonT alright. No rush here, as long as it gets settled in the end.
@mscheryl Hey there, sorry for the trouble. Contact us at https://meh.com/support and we'll figure things out with you.
@joelmw It seems that way. FWIW, neither of mine charge ... but we know it's @carl669's fault for that.
@narfcake did you remember to pay your electric bill this month?

@deafinoneear @JonT Boy, that's a shit sandwich company.
Ah, poop.
@gertiestn Here's the scanned manual in case you still haven't found anything else.
I got these love the speakers but can't get either one of them to charge. Am I doing something wrong or is there something wrong with the speakers.
@mecraig go ahead and contact support at https://meh.com/support.
My speakers worked for 2 weeks and poof all done
@pataluna have you contacted support yet? https://meh.com/support
Just tried the second speaker this past weekend. It will not hold a charge. First one worked. Contacted meh support moments ago. Hoping for the best.
@Kurtois Thanks for following up, and especially for replying here!
I totally forgot how to connect them by bluetooth. Anyone wants to help me?
