The business model is basically to email Amazon shoppers things they might like based on their browsing or shopping history at Amazon. This means very niche items can be effectively marketed at not very compelling pricing and still sell. This symbiotic capability preying on 100 million shoppers is both the life and death of Woot. Depends on your perspective.
@snapster Nobody can fault you for taking the money, but maybe if/when you sell Meh you can sell it to a company that will respect the current model and just expand upon it. I used to like Woot’s 1-a-day sales, and even when there was a different “department” (Sports.woot, Wine.woot, etc.) it was tolerable. But now it’s just gotten ridiculous, becoming nothing more than a clearing house for Amazon’s slow-moving merchandise. I mean, who wants to buy slow-moving products anyw- … oh.
@f00l I agree and the bargains were better. They’ve turned it into chucky cheese scripted fun. I never go there to bullshit around, it’s strictly for shopping now. Can’t tell you the last time I did a wootoff, the prices are almost alwys the same as the original deal, so who cares, I didn’t buy it the first time at that price.
The Flash Deals thing is dumb, but Woot’s had a long history of strange and/or unique items. I don’t think it’s a bad thing – it hearkens back to their quirky early days (no offense, @snapster). The fact so many people would buy them is another story (bag of dimes, anyone?) but I’m pleased that they’re still offering “conversation” items.
@ACraigL I haven’t researched the price. I’ll concede a point if the value is compelling. If it’s not, I keep the point.

Woot is just Meh 1.0. Amazon ruined it when they bought it out. It’s hard to find anything on there that’s selling for enough discount to bother with anymore.
Woot is about the only place to buy Arko-mils hinged containers at a lower price than anywhere else. I wish they’d sell the 17" and 9" high ones though and not just the 12" high ones. I think they might be cosmetic seconds due to a few color swirls in the plastic, but I don’t care about that. They hold (the 12" ones 65 pounds and are stackable. @snapster - maybe you can get these here on occasion (not on an occasion that is in the near future as I don’t have enough money to pay $95ish dollars for 6 at the moment - or sell them maybe not as often as knives, speakers, etc. but a couple of times a year…

Could get a Sphero 2.0 which was “barely used” for $45.06 (with cashback), or I could just wait and hope I sell my set of A Series of Unfortunate Events sells and splurge on Sphero Sprk.
Paid less than $45. Unsure how much due to I don’t know if the site I use for cashback will honor this sure to it technically being a small electronic.
@PlacidPenguin I would definitely recommend a cover for it. But when I leveled it up completely I got a note that they would send me a free cover. It didn’t come so I wrote CS and they sent one out right away. I guess it depends on how much you care about scratches. Mine is clear so it would show up more.
@PlacidPenguin Yesterday I charged up my BB 8 sphero, popped his little head off, and put him in a cover. He patrolled my kitchen while I mopped the floor.
Bought a different case for my Sphero which was supposed to come today.
Sphero came yesterday at level 16. I reset it to the beginning. This morning I was up to level 13, and a little while ago I reached level 20.
After I requested the free Nubby, I cancelled the order for the other case. A free minutes later, the truck bringing the case pulled up, and I didn’t know if the order was cancelled or not, though they pulled away.
@PlacidPenguin Wow, it took me a couple of months playing daily. If your nubby doesn’t come just send the Sphero people an email- their customer service is great.
(You also had to wait for codes to be released to get special tricks.)

I opened a ticket today about something but they closed it. Turns out, they encourage asking multiple questions with no relation to each other in the same ticket.

Bought a watch from woot sellout. They sent me the wrong one. Didn’t have any more of the one I wanted so they offered me $10 to keep it, but it was super ugly so I made them take it back… Less awesome.

@sammydog01 Yeah, they probably screwed up. Just like they screwed up on the earliest orders, sending multi-packs of randoms instead of singles. Or sending Anvil instead of AA. Or sending the wrong product. Or not knowing how to count. Or printing on the wrong shirt style. Or on the wrong shirt color. Or using the wrong print size. Or the wrong print.

@ACraigL My 15.5 lbs of T-shirts is due here Friday. I can’t wait. I did buy some jumbo Ziploc flexible totes to store them all in, so I can feel at least a little organized.

My tanks came in today (if anyone is still interested).
I got five of this shirt- it’s AA 50/50 poly cotton blend and is really tight, although hopefully it won’t shrink too much in the dryer. Maybe if I lose some weight they will work.
The rest were all unique AA 100% cotton. I have the same problem with linear density that I have with all the AAs but with the tanks I also have a visible bra problem. I guessed as close as possible and after washing these fit a bit tight with a weird gap but minimal bra showing. So I’ll probably say fuck it and wear them when the temperature gets over 90.

Welp. I feel like an idiot. I also ordered five random two packs thinking that they were just solid color shirts so I could wear them to work. Apparently, I ordered more randomly printed shirts.

Absolutely loving the cat one. The Christmas sweater looking one is cool. Don’t know if the Deadpool one is mashed up with something else, or I just don’t get it. @mikibell The mutant Anvil have really short sleeves and the paper-ish Anvil tags. The neckstretch Anvil are the ones with the custom woot tag or at least “regular cut” sleeves.
(And this is why I call them “neckstretch”. Also there’s a @matthew/Glen video on that.)

@OldCatLady heheh you are more organized than I … I have some on the arm of the couch, some on the table and a pile on their way to the laundry. My kids won’t wear them unless they are washed first because they stink.
@mikibell Yeah, the DTG ones will always smell that way because of the pretreatment. Screen printing doesn’t need that, though. And most of these should’ve been old-stock screen printed shirts.
(Granted, it could be because they were all piled together in the same area so the odors transferred …)
The last two with the forum post are both SOTM. I can’t find the individual images, but they’re shown on the post page. One is a navy space cats (ochopika) and the other is a navy Unstealthiest Ninja, full moon with ninja (DoOomcat).

@ACraigL I noticed that the kids shirt sales were looking very sparse, and that all sizes of adult shirts are available. They must have several warehouses full. Thanks for the heads up. I think. Yes, I bit. Limit 3 2-packs.
@ACraigL Thanks, I checked last night and didn’t notice. More shirts coming! I realized after I ordered most of my shirts that I bought mostly AAs because it was a better deal instead of the Anvils which fit me better. So now I should have shirts that fit.
@ACraigL 9 more work shirts on the way. Luckily my work uniform always covers the printing because these are cheaper than the work shirts I buy in the store, and they are more comfortable. Maybe I’ll be lucky and get some more non work shirts.
When they changed over, they alienated many customers who used “made in USA” for a purchasing reason and every customer who wore a women’s small or medium in AA. As the months went on, the QC went down, and so did the sales:
@narfcake I have a size problem with aa- some men’s large fit fine, some are too tight, and some xl are a bit loose and some are like potato sacks. Anvil large fit every time. So I prefer the quality of aa but the fit is a crapshoot.
@sammydog01 Strangeness. I haven’t noticed, but I’m a size medium that usually buys/wears a size large instead anyway. Are the tighter ones side seamed versus the looser ones being tubular in construction? I know that was an aspect brought up before in the old ‘lady sizes’ thread. Shirts with larger prints tend to have less stretch too.
For me, AA has been one of the more consistent brands; I have 15 year old AA shirts from Cartoon Network that measure up the same to recent catshirtswoot AA shirts.
@narfcake OK, here’s my problem with AAs- these shirts have all been washed at least once:
Men’s Large:
Not too big a difference but it’s at the bustline and one is a favorite shirt and one doesn’t make it out of the drawer.
Men’s XL:
These shirts both came from the recent sale. One is a bit large, the other huge. Maybe it’s mislabeled.
Same brown shirt, different other shirt- again not a huge difference and both are wearable but the gray one is much less baggy.
@narfcake Also your comments made me figure out the problem with my tank tops- they came in three types: 50/50, 100% cotton with side seams and 100% cotton without side seams. Unfortunately only the ones without seams fit well enough to wear.
AA tended to maximize their use of fabric, hence why some will have seams and some won’t. The 50/50 tanks are slimmer no matter what; I have a few of those from before.
Alas, for my box of unisex large tanks, the warehouse workers picked a bunch of Meow (50/50) and women’s racerback tri-blends. I was refunded.
@mikibell I still have a pair that is stashed in my high school year book. They made the cover and a few photos 3D. I wonder if it’ll work on my phone screen. I’ll try to remember when I get home from work to try.
@RiotDemon most often because I am too lazy to wear two outfits in a day… Have to wear dress clothes to work. I wear hubby’s tshirts to sleep in - they mostly meet the mpr… Occasionally, on weekends I wear t-shirts if I am playing with the kids…
@mikibell I know exactly what you mean. When I retired, I started donating suits, and jackets, and dress pants, and dress shoes, and I THREW OUT about fifty pairs of pantyhose and tights. Then I did the same with the travel suitcase that I always, always had packed because sometimes I had to travel on a few hours’ notice. I did have jeans and a few T-shirts, but there for awhile my closet was awesomely uncluttered.
@f00l It’s the tenth anniversary of Woot Shirts. Yay? And apparently their warehouse is full to the rafters of old shirts they need to get rid of. Oops? So they are selling them cheap. New sales go live at 1am eastern time. Here’s the current one:
It expires June 27 so a new one may go up on June 28 or before that if this sells out. Or maybe it’s over. Who knows. Right now they have some adult shirts but they are pretty picked over for size. Some of the more popular ones sold out fast (like one dollar tank tops, limit fifteen, free shipping).

The punchline is that I got some of those polaroid dsi docks in a bag of crap. Made a comment if anyone found them useful. I was rewarded with more docks.
Then Thunderthighs (@del) posed a question to the community (the thread above) if I should get even more docks. She flipped it and sent a case of docks to everyone that responded. She also put together a 70 lb. box of stuff for me which was awesome. Also, it had docks.
But read the thread. It was one of the better pranky things that happened over the years.

Woot announced their 13th birthday party on July 11. They are already hyping it, probably trying to distract us from the firing everyone we love thing. It will most likely be a huge success. I will look for two dollar shirts and try to not buy crap.

@OldCatLady I didn’t know there was any differences in the AA shirts. I’m liking them better than my other shirts, and that’s why I bought more to wear to work. The length is better for me, and much softer than the gildans that I would buy because they were inexpensive. I can’t justify spending a lot of money on shirts I wear to my job.
@RiotDemon I think the AAs have been pretty consistent- they are just a lot different from the standards ones, which makes it a big problem if they mix them up.
@sammydog01 Of course. Considering setting up another account and payment method JIC there are more shirts. I spent an hour or so turning some ‘men’s’ shirts into scoop neck ‘women’s.’ Three down, 30+ to go.
@sammydog01 Today’s shirt. I only received two that had patriotic themes, and the other one is in the wash. Easy to do: run a wide line of zigzag stay stitching as close as you can next to the neckband. Cut neckband out and discard. Turn cut edge down and topstitch.
@OldCatLady Sometimes, that’s about as far as I get when it comes to modifying my shirts. That is, if the seams didn’t bust while I’m wearing it or in the wash; mutant Anvils for the win lose.
@sammydog01 Stay stitching gives the edge a shape when the ribbing is removed. Folding it under, then topstitching finishes it. Been doing this ten years, none unravelled yet. Anvils don’t play nice, BTW.
These are super cute… But I have a functional pair of silicone covered oven mitts. I also have a non functional skeleton hand one for decoration next to all my other skull pot holders, and towels I bought at Halloween for drying my hands in the kitchen. I think I’m going to stick with one theme.
@sammydog01 It’s one of the more contentious subjects for artists, as there’s no dashboard or anything that shows how much you’ve earned, you just have to take their word for it. I can track sales of individual shirts, but there’s no notification if something sells from of the catalog (or feature sale, for that matter).
Commissions are definitely generated from the sale. I’m 99% sure I get nothing from the randoms.
@sammydog01 When they sell. $2 per sale is the general split, but in some cases like when it’s a main offering during a woot-off or something, it can be $1. Randoms yield $0.
The daily offerings and derby winners are paid a flat rate + $2/sale after the debut day.
@sammydog01 4. They had no idea what their inventory was, hence the overselling and having to purposely DTG print a batch to fulfill the randoms sold at a money-losing price.
The Anvil blanks made since about the end of last year have the black tags. Same cut, hence why the ones that I’ve received look more like tank tops rather than t-shirts too.
@sammydog01 I don’t think there’s any merit to that. These designs were not specifically chosen by the Wooter, and I know the contracts spell out Woot’s printing rights and when/where compensations are due.
There’s also a possibility that they were shirts that were ordered but returned as undeliverable. Some of my prepackaged randoms were one screened + one DTG.
In any case, Woot still pays the best out of all the crowdsourced shirt sites. None of the other shirt sites offers $1,000 for printing rights. The majority of other companies do not pay $2 per sale but usually only $1 or less. Multiple artists have earned over $100k (gross) from Woot. They aren’t perfect, but I won’t fault them for the aspects in which they are doing right either.
@sammydog01 That would be fun. If they had enough Ocho mitts to sell, they ought to have thousands and thousands of totes, and maybe some LS tees, hoodies etc. Possibly they’ll be in the woot-offs.
@sammydog01 Yes. That’s why for shirt brands now, the selection reads standard and premium now instead of standard and American Apparel.
They fit alright; the sleeves taper a bit more, but not mutant Anvil taper and length, and the necklines tend to be looser than AA, but not neckstretch Anvil loose.

I support and encourage this sentiment. I got rid of my gas weedwhacker, my gas lawnmower… even my gas chainsaw. You always have to fuss with them for 20 minutes before they start up.
The extension cord may sometimes be a bother, but at least I can get out there, get the job done and move on without having to coax and plead with a gas engine to just freakin’ start already.
I also avoid battery powered tools when I can for a similar reason. They just never seem to be charged up when you need them, and the longevity of rechargeable batteries is horrible, and the battery always seems to run out of juice before the job is finished.
@ruouttaurmind I use a little battery lawn mower. It doesn’t like wet grass, cuts a narrow path (it takes me twice as long to mow), and in general it’s pretty weak. However, I no longer have the strength to push a heavy mower and I don’t like self propelled mowers.
The good thing about the mower is that the battery has lasted for six years and I’m also able to change the blade myself.

I’ve never gotten a BOC before, but managed to get this latest one. So that’s a Fuko yesterday and a BOC today. Can’t wait to compare them… Though I’m already more of a fanboy of Meh, so I doubt that Woot will do better.
@Barney overtired…and hot…it was a very humid day without air conditioning…drove 1.5 hours before getting to work (kid drop offs)…got to work and had to drive an hour to our other office…then normal 45 minute commute home. hot and sweaty should be reserved for one thing imho, and it isn’t driving!!

First Woot purchase in over 2 years (except for a couple BOC last year). Emerson 52" fan with light kit, $49. After additional 10% for paying through Amz, $96 for 2 out the door. Best deal I’ve seen today.
Well, crap. Woot just emailed me to let me know the Woot-off ceiling fans I ordered do not include the advertised light kit.
‘But hey, we’re real sorry, and here’s a $5 coupon for all your troubles (good on any purchase of a billion dollars or more)’.
I asked them to recall the 2 packages which are still in transit, but they refused, telling me I had to receive the shipment, then contact them for a return authorization after, then ship the packages back. Once they receive and process the returned packages they’ll issue a refund. It was unclear if they are going to send a pre-paid shipping label. Orr better still, a call tag. I’d rather not be responsible for lugging two big heavy boxes down to UPS.
Boo on Woot for not just recalling the boxes though.
@medz I’m wondering if their motive for refusing to recall the packages is based on the likelihood the average customer won’t follow through with a return. “Oh, it’s too much bother, I’ll just keep it.” If they make the return too convenient, There’s no chance I’ll keep them.
@medz I would bet there are a couple pallets fishing around in the warehouse somewhere that were supposed to be for these fans, but they’ve misplaced them somewhere. Look for those in future BOCs.

Meh, it’s all good. I got a fuk, a killer deal on a Dyson, a GoPro and some other stuff I forget. Plus the stuff I got on Amz (including a Fossil smart watch). So Christmas in July has already been good to me.

Well today woot is selling a bucket of refurbished pink golf balls. I guess when someone fishes them all out of the water traps they sell them off used. Good grief! On the other hand in the heat of the summer if you sneak on to golf courses with a big net to get them in the dead of night I supposed that might be as lucrative (or not) as fishing pop cans out of the trash… and at least since you’d be in the water you’d stay cleaner and cooler.

Cripes people can earn that much gathering up balls from ponds? Where do I sign up? Can’t be any worse than when I did manual labor in Walmart’s parking lot for the plant vendor with sweat dripping off my eyelashes a couple of years ago. Pay would be significantly better too.

@Kidsandliz As I understand it, it’s a concession and the courses sell season permits to divers. My approach would be to buy a ball washer (shut UP, @mfladd and @Pavlov and @cranky1950) and buy the recovered balls, then market them. This also avoids leeches, ticks and snakes.

The business model is basically to email Amazon shoppers things they might like based on their browsing or shopping history at Amazon. This means very niche items can be effectively marketed at not very compelling pricing and still sell. This symbiotic capability preying on 100 million shoppers is both the life and death of Woot. Depends on your perspective.

@snapster Nobody can fault you for taking the money, but maybe if/when you sell Meh you can sell it to a company that will respect the current model and just expand upon it. I used to like Woot’s 1-a-day sales, and even when there was a different “department” (Sports.woot, Wine.woot, etc.) it was tolerable. The Flash Deals thing is dumb, but Woot’s had a long history of strange and/or unique items. I don’t think it’s a bad thing – it hearkens back to their quirky early days (no offense, @snapster). The fact so many people would buy them is another story (bag of dimes, anyone?) but I’m pleased that they’re still offering “conversation” items.

Woot is about the only place to buy Arko-mils hinged containers at a lower price than anywhere else. I wish they’d sell the 17" and 9" high ones though and not just the 12" high ones. I think they might be cosmetic seconds due to a few color swirls in the plastic, but I don’t care about that. They hold (the 12" ones 65 pounds and are stackable. @snapster - maybe you can get these here on occasion (not on an occasion that is in the near future as I don’t have enough money to pay $95ish dollars for 6 at the moment - or sell them maybe not as often as knives, speakers, etc. but a couple of times a year…

@PlacidPenguin I would definitely recommend a cover for it. But when I leveled it up completely I got a note that they would send me a free cover. It didn’t come so I wrote CS and they sent one out right away. I guess it depends on how much you care about scratches. Mine is clear so it would show up more.

Bought a different case for my Sphero which was supposed to come today.
Sphero came yesterday at level 16. I reset it to the beginning. This morning I was up to level 13, and a little while ago I reached level 20.
After I requested the free Nubby, I cancelled the order for the other case. A free minutes later, the truck bringing the case pulled up, and I didn’t know if the order was cancelled or not, though they pulled away.
I just hope I get the Nubby now.
(Still haven’t decided on a name for it though.)

My tanks came in today (if anyone is still interested).
I got five of this shirt- it’s AA 50/50 poly cotton blend and is really tight, although hopefully it won’t shrink too much in the dryer. Maybe if I lose some weight they will work.
The rest were all unique AA 100% cotton. I have the same problem with linear density that I have with all the AAs but with the tanks I also have a visible bra problem. I guessed as close as possible and after washing these fit a bit tight with a weird gap but minimal bra showing. So I’ll probably say fuck it and wear them when the temperature gets over 90.

@mikibell Yeah, the DTG ones will always smell that way because of the pretreatment. Screen printing doesn’t need that, though. And most of these should’ve been old-stock screen printed shirts.
(Granted, it could be because they were all piled together in the same area so the odors transferred …)
The last two with the forum post are both SOTM. I can’t find the individual images, but they’re shown on the post page. One is a navy space cats (ochopika) and the other is a navy Unstealthiest Ninja, full moon with ninja (DoOomcat).

@narfcake I have a size problem with aa- some men’s large fit fine, some are too tight, and some xl are a bit loose and some are like potato sacks. Anvil large fit every time. So I prefer the quality of aa but the fit is a crapshoot.
@sammydog01 Strangeness. I haven’t noticed, but I’m a size medium that usually buys/wears a size large instead anyway. Are the tighter ones side seamed versus the looser ones being tubular in construction? I know that was an aspect brought up before in the old ‘lady sizes’ thread. Shirts with larger prints tend to have less stretch too.
For me, AA has been one of the more consistent brands; I have 15 year old AA shirts from Cartoon Network that measure up the same to recent catshirtswoot AA shirts.
@narfcake OK, here’s my problem with AAs- these shirts have all been washed at least once:
Men’s Large:
Not too big a difference but it’s at the bustline and one is a favorite shirt and one doesn’t make it out of the drawer.
Men’s XL:
These shirts both came from the recent sale. One is a bit large, the other huge. Maybe it’s mislabeled.
Same brown shirt, different other shirt- again not a huge difference and both are wearable but the gray one is much less baggy.
@narfcake Also your comments made me figure out the problem with my tank tops- they came in three types: 50/50, 100% cotton with side seams and 100% cotton without side seams. Unfortunately only the ones without seams fit well enough to wear.
@sammydog01 Definitely sounds like a mislabel.
AA tended to maximize their use of fabric, hence why some will have seams and some won’t. The 50/50 tanks are slimmer no matter what; I have a few of those from before.
Alas, for my box of unisex large tanks, the warehouse workers picked a bunch of Meow (50/50) and women’s racerback tri-blends.
I was refunded.
@narfcake Meow is the one I got 5 of. I thought maybe it was a women’s size- really small. The site says unisex.

@mikibell I know exactly what you mean. When I retired, I started donating suits, and jackets, and dress pants, and dress shoes, and I THREW OUT about fifty pairs of pantyhose and tights. The punchline is that I got some of those polaroid dsi docks in a bag of crap. Made a comment if anyone found them useful. I was rewarded with more docks.
Then Thunderthighs (@del) posed a question to the community (the thread above) if I should get even more docks. She flipped it and sent a case of docks to everyone that responded. She also put together a 70 lb. box of stuff for me which was awesome. Also, it had docks.
But read the thread. It was one of the better pranky things that happened over the years.

@OldCatLady I didn’t know there was any differences in the AA shirts. I’m liking them better than my other shirts, and that’s why I bought more to wear to work. The length is better for me, and much softer than the gildans that I would buy because they were inexpensive. I can’t justify spending a lot of money on shirts I wear to my job.

@OldCatLady The prepackaged 2-packs could be Anvil, AA, or one of each if you ordered standard. They would be AA only if you ordered premium, however.
@RiotDemon I think the AAs have been pretty consistent- they are just a lot different from the standards ones, which makes it a big problem if they mix them up.

@sammydog01 Today’s shirt. I only received two that had patriotic themes, and the other one is in the wash. Easy to do: run a wide line of zigzag stay stitching as close as you can next to the neckband. Cut neckband out and discard. Turn cut edge down and topstitch.

@sammydog01 Stay stitching gives the edge a shape when the ribbing is removed. Folding it under, then topstitching finishes it. Been doing this ten years, none unravelled yet. Anvils don’t play nice, BTW.

@ACraigL Do you get paid for shirts as they print them or sell them? How much did you make on my two buck random? Just curious.
@sammydog01 It’s one of the more contentious subjects for artists, as there’s no dashboard or anything that shows how much you’ve earned, you just have to take their word for it. I can track sales of individual shirts, but there’s no notification if something sells from of the catalog (or feature sale, for that matter).
Commissions are definitely generated from the sale. I’m 99% sure I get nothing from the randoms.

@sammydog01 4. They had no idea what their inventory was, hence the overselling and having to purposely DTG print a batch to fulfill the randoms sold at a money-losing price.
The Anvil blanks made since about the end of last year have the black tags. Same cut, hence why the ones that I’ve received look more like tank tops rather than t-shirts too.
(I’m still waiting on some of my randoms.)
@narfcake So they can do a last minute run to sell as randoms and not pay the designers? I think someone needs to look into a class action lawsuit.
@sammydog01 I don’t think there’s any merit to that. These designs were not specifically chosen by the Wooter, and I know the contracts spell out Woot’s printing rights and when/where compensations are due.
There’s also a possibility that they were shirts that were ordered but returned as undeliverable. Some of my prepackaged randoms were one screened + one DTG.
In any case, Woot still pays the best out of all the crowdsourced shirt sites. None of the other shirt sites offers $1,000 for printing rights. The majority of other companies do not pay $2 per sale but usually only $1 or less. Multiple artists have earned over $100k (gross) from Woot. They aren’t perfect, but I won’t fault them for the aspects in which they are doing right either.
@narfcake Is there an easy way to tell the difference? I know I they were cheap but I’m kinda bummed. Poor sad happy unicorn.

@sammydog01 Yes. That’s why for shirt brands now, the selection reads standard and premium now instead of standard and American Apparel.
They fit alright; the sleeves taper a bit more, but not mutant Anvil taper and length, and the necklines tend to be looser than AA, but not neckstretch Anvil loose.

I support and encourage this sentiment. I got rid of my gas weedwhacker, my gas lawnmower… even my gas chainsaw. You always have to fuss with them for 20 minutes before they start up.
The extension cord may sometimes be a bother, but at least I can get out there, get the job done and move on without having to coax and plead with a gas engine to just freakin’ start already.
I also avoid battery powered tools when I can for a similar reason. They just never seem to be charged up when you need them, and the longevity of rechargeable batteries is horrible, and the battery always seems to run out of juice before the job is finished.

@ruouttaurmind I use a little battery lawn mower. It doesn’t like wet grass, cuts a narrow path (it takes me twice as long to mow), and in general it’s pretty weak. However, I no longer have the strength to push a heavy mower and I don’t like self propelled mowers.
The good thing about the mower is that the battery has lasted for six years and I’m also able to change the blade myself.

Worked for me earlier today. Almost 2 minutes before I had to sign in and then buy successfully. Good luck to you, not sure if that means you should buy or stay away though.

@sammydog01 10 minutes is pretty much “yeah, it’s sold out.” The VoP is supposed to kick everyone out by then, but it doesn’t always happen.
I’ve never gotten a BOC before, but managed to get this latest one. So that’s a Fuko yesterday and a BOC today. Can’t wait to compare them… Though I’m already more of a fanboy of Meh, so I doubt that Woot will do better.

First Woot purchase in over 2 years (except for a couple BOC last year). Emerson 52" fan with light kit, $49. After additional 10% for paying through Amz, $96 for 2 out the door. Best deal I’ve seen today.
Well, crap. Woot just emailed me to let me know the Woot-off ceiling fans I ordered do not include the advertised light kit.
‘But hey, we’re real sorry, and here’s a $5 coupon for all your troubles (good on any purchase of a billion dollars or more)’.
I asked them to recall the 2 packages which are still in transit, but they refused, telling me I had to receive the shipment, then contact them for a return authorization after, then ship the packages back. Once they receive and process the returned packages they’ll issue a refund. It was unclear if they are going to send a pre-paid shipping label. Orr better still, a call tag. I’d rather not be responsible for lugging two big heavy boxes down to UPS.
Boo on Woot for not just recalling the boxes though.

Well today woot is selling a bucket of refurbished pink golf balls. I guess when someone fishes them all out of the water traps they sell them off used. Good grief! On the other hand in the heat of the summer if you sneak on to golf courses with a big net to get them in the dead of night I supposed that might be as lucrative (or not) as fishing pop cans out of the trash… and at least since you’d be in the water you’d stay cleaner and cooler.

@Kidsandliz Ball diving usta not be hazardous in the 60s through the 80s, then the gator population out grew the glades and they began to show up in places where they had been absent for most of the 20th century. Maybe its time to bring back DDT.
@Kidsandliz As I understand it, it’s a concession and the courses sell season permits to divers. My approach would be to buy a ball washer (shut UP, @mfladd and @Pavlov and @cranky1950) and buy the recovered balls, then market them. This also avoids leeches, ticks and snakes.
