@RiotDemon i do not understand these words. milk? water? are these new? what proof are they?
kidding… i don’t drink milk, but the boy does. usually i buy them in the cardboard cartons since those seem to last a lot longer than the plastic containers. but… i will indulge if i make cookies. martinis and cookies just don’t go together.
@carl669 Ice cream, pineapple juice, frozen pineapple. I could probably freeze canned pineapple then all I would need is ice cream. Or I could use the peach ice cream in the freezer. I like this idea!
@carl669@f00l@Kidsandliz
“Pickle juice” is what the locals call pickle moonshine. And it is delicious in the summertime from the freezer.
/image pickle moonshine
@carl669@f00l@mike808 Got it. (grin). Now that makes sense. As I don’t drink I don’t really pay attention to details like this or explanations for phrases like pickle your liver.
@carl669@f00l@mike808@moonhat My daughter would have had me buy just pickle juice to make popsicles if I could have, although she loved pickles. One year I bought her (for her birthday) a 10 gallon container of dill pickles at Costco. She was in 7th heaven. Took her about 3 mo to eat them all and she made about a zillion popsicles. With the salt content likely not all that good for her, but likely better than potato chips in that respect.
@Kidsandliz Also works taken literally. Pickle juice is essentially savory Gatorade, and makes a good recovery drink, especially when it’s a super humid day out and the idea of cold and sweet makes you boak a little.
@carl669 It depends upon my mood, the weather, and several proprietary variables that I am not at liberty to discuss while sober (which regrettably I currently am).
On heavy rotation are:
Bourbon (often with a big-ass ice cube)
Scotch or Japanese whiskey (never with ice)
Jameson (rocks and lime)
Mezcal (usually reposado)
Tequila (sometimes reposado), usually with lime
Hendricks and elderflower tonic (with cucumber)
Wine (usually a scandalous cabernet sauvignon, but sometimes something else. On a warm day, maybe even a (gasp) rose or white)…
If I’m feeling particularly frisky, a proper old fashioned
It’s also just about Mai Tai season (not the pool bar crap mai tai. I make mine with aged Jamaican rum, Haitian rum, cointreau, real orgeat, fresh lime juice etc… It’s utterly amazing).
Mostly bourbon, with a ginormous ice cube. On a warm sunny day when the world seems almost normal I might have a rum and tonic while sitting on the patio. And wine with dinner - been drinking my stock of good stuff lately, because I’m starting to understand that life is short.
@carl669 sorry - initially didn’t post this as a response…
Four Roses - I got a bottle of their single barrel, and it’s awesome. I’ve been nursing that along. Eagle Rare. Buffalo Trace. And lately some Jefferson’s Reserve. When I want to branch out, high west double rye.
Four Roses - I got a bottle of their single barrel, and it’s awesome. I’ve been nursing that along. Eagle Rare. Buffalo Trace. And lately some Jefferson’s Reserve. When I want to branch out, high west double rye.
Mostly red wine with dinner (and extended to evening on the patio.) Occasionally some cranberry or cherry juice with Tito’s.
But I picked up a case of Shine Heat Wave this afternoon because the Peach Wheat looked like something I needed.
Idk about favorite, because it’s kind of a novelty thing, but the other day I stopped in the liquor store and picked up a bottle of Skrewball. That’s peanut butter whiskey. Straight up on the rocks, it’s pretty tasty, but a little sweet to drink much of it.
Big fan of the Morgenthalerway
Other way is whiskey, butter, and honey warm. I leave it up to you as to proportions. But suffice to say, plenty of each.
Now that the weather has warmed I’ve decided to join the clueless and take anti-malarial medication mixed with a topical disinfectant, with an assortment of medicinal herbs and some vitamin C (for scurvy).
Angelica root - gas, indigestion, hepatitis, heartburn, nausea, ulcers and various other digestive ailments. It strengthens the liver and improves general well-being and mental harmony and is good for chronic headaches, fevers and general body weakness as it improves circulation and increases energy.*
Licorice root - respiratory and digestive health*
Coriander - digestion, cholesterol, diabetes, hair and skin*
Juniper - Immune system, flatulence*
Added to the tincture is an extract of the bark of a tree from the Andean rain forest of Peru, which has been used for centuries by the native people as a cure for malaria and other ailments.
Milk. And water. The milk is the tough one because I hate going to the fucking grocery store right now.

@carl669 @RiotDemon
that’s what the Baileys is for…
Pina coladas. The kids get them too although with less rum.
@sammydog01 if i ever remember to get the ingredients, i’m going to try to make alcoholic dole whips.
@carl669 Ice cream, pineapple juice, frozen pineapple. I could probably freeze canned pineapple then all I would need is ice cream. Or I could use the peach ice cream in the freezer. I like this idea!
@sammydog01 please send me samples.
@carl669 @sammydog01 the peach would be really good with the pineapple!
@carl669 @sammydog01 oh my gosh alcoholic dole whips would be so good!
@carl669 @moonhat @sammydog01
/Me waits for a review.
@carl669 @sammydog01 We made dolewhips with rum…we refer them without.
@carl669 @mtbm33 @sammydog01 refer them to who?
@carl669 @sammydog01 @unksol oops…*prefer
Scotch. Sometimes on the rocks, sometimes with club soda. Sometimes just Scotch.
Various wines, beers and whisk(e)y neat. Basically a George Thorogood song. No, no, I Drink Alone.
mostly red wine.
@moonhat from casemates?
@carl669 some, yes
Unsweetened ice tea. Water.
Coffee. Sometimes, energy drinks.
If I ever get a week off, I’ll try out something stronger, maybe.
@f00l like zima?
@carl669
My fantasies include tequila and absinth.
@carl669
I forgot.
Once in a while I drink pickle juice. it’s supposedly good for electrolytes, and if you happen to have leg cramps it’s great fix.
And I’m sometimes partial to drinking Tabasco sauce straight.
@carl669 @f00l Try pickle juice popsicles. My kid swears by them.
@carl669 @f00l @Kidsandliz

/image pickle moonshine
@carl669 @f00l @mike808 Oh. I had no idea. I don’t drink and took what was said literally. So pickled in alcohol? Can you even pickle things in alcohol?
@carl669 @f00l @Kidsandliz
Um, your liver. Drinking alcohol metabolizes in the liver as formaldehyde, aka embalming fluid, hence the phrase.
@carl669 @f00l @mike808 Got it. (grin). Now that makes sense. As I don’t drink I don’t really pay attention to details like this or explanations for phrases like pickle your liver.
@carl669 @f00l @Kidsandliz popsicles? Very interesting!
@carl669 @f00l @Kidsandliz @mike808 that sounds pretty good!!

Elixir of the gods
Otherwise cold water, unsweetened ice tea, sometimes Hint.
Rock on @f00l
/giphy rock on

@carl669

There’s a rotating selection, beginning with, “what are you pouring?”
And, just for good measure: fuckity fucky fuck.
@shahnm understandable, but what’s your favorite?

So little liver, so much to drink…
@carl669 @shahnm wow! We need to all meet up so you can make us mai tai’s! Those sound fabulous
@carl669 @moonhat That would be my pleasure!!
Mostly bourbon, with a ginormous ice cube. On a warm sunny day when the world seems almost normal I might have a rum and tonic while sitting on the patio. And wine with dinner - been drinking my stock of good stuff lately, because I’m starting to understand that life is short.
@accumulator any particular brand of bourbon?
@carl669 sorry - initially didn’t post this as a response…
Four Roses - I got a bottle of their single barrel, and it’s awesome. I’ve been nursing that along. Eagle Rare. Buffalo Trace. And lately some Jefferson’s Reserve. When I want to branch out, high west double rye.
EVERYTHING IS AWESOME!
@mediocrebot not everything, mbot, not everything. But your positive attitude is pretty nice.

KRULL! A SKULL! BRETT HULL! AWESOME!
@mediocrebot why did mediocrebot respond?
@accumulator “awesome” is one of its trigger words.
MEALS! DEALS! EELS! AWESOME!
Well, there was 99 bottles of beer on the wall.
@BobsWorld
Wuz?
When wuz dat? I fergit.
@BobsWorld @f00l Before I got to the wall.
@BobsWorld @shahnm
Iz you sure it wuz you?
@BobsWorld @f00l Hic*
@BobsWorld That was an hour ago. Probably far fewer than 98 bottles of beer (because you) took one down, passed it around…
@BobsWorld @Kidsandliz Don’t bogart, pass it over
Mostly red wine with dinner (and extended to evening on the patio.) Occasionally some cranberry or cherry juice with Tito’s.
But I picked up a case of Shine Heat Wave this afternoon because the Peach Wheat looked like something I needed.
@2many2no Oh shit, sorry, I forgot.
Fuck.
@2many2no ಠ_ಠ
@2many2no Well, fuck again.
*Shiner Heat Wave
Who the hell is proofreading this shit anyway?
@2many2no what kind of cherry juice do you use?
@moonhat
I get it at the local Costco, but they don’t list it online.
Like most things at Costco, it’ll probably disappear because I like it.
@2many2no oh nice, looks good. You are in the pnw right?
@moonhat Not sure what that is. I’m in West Texas.
@2many2no oops. Pacific Northwest. For some reason I thought you were in the Seattle area. Disregard…
@2many2no @moonhat
If you’re in West Texas, then you’re officially a long damned way from anywhere.
Say “hi” to Marfa for me.
Tho I spoze you’re also a long damned way from there, too.
/image Marfa
@2many2no @f00l what is marfa?
@f00l Not that far west, South Plains.
@moonhat It’s where the Lights are.
@2many2no
Permian Basin general area?
@moonhat
@f00l @moonhat Near Lubbock
@2many2no @moonhat
Have you learnt to love treeless vistas, and the wind, dirt, and sand coming at you daily?
Okay, I kinda like Lubbock; in spite of all the West Texas jokes.
But that fondness is mostly meaningless, as I have never lived there.
@f00l @moonhat I really like that that image of West Texas serves to keep all the big city folks away from here…
So… I was taking a couple of days off of the sauce (liver holiday, I guess). But this thread may undo my resolve…
@shahnm
/giphy I helped
Catdaddy moonshine Appalachian Mules.
Then I’m going to try bourbon again, but not from Kentucky, because fuck Kentucky.
Used to pipeline the stuff, but the blackouts and the unexplained injuries made me stop.
Idk about favorite, because it’s kind of a novelty thing, but the other day I stopped in the liquor store and picked up a bottle of Skrewball. That’s peanut butter whiskey. Straight up on the rocks, it’s pretty tasty, but a little sweet to drink much of it.
@djslack whaaaaaa?? I need this!
/giphy I want some
@moonhat get some. It looks like this:
/image Skrewball whiskey
@djslack Trust me on this:
2 oz Skrewball
1/2 oz Godiva (dark if you can get it)
Big scoop french vanilla ice cream
Blend in blender until smooth
Squirt chocolate syrup into a chilled glass (along the sides)
Garnish with chopped peanuts and shaved chocolate
It’s a nutty buddy. You’re welcome!
@djslack @shahnm whaaaaaaa
@djslack @moonhat @shahnm
That sounds amazing…
I really like this stuff too. Sort of a liquid adult peanutbutter cookie…
Orange soda Zip Fizz.
for me it’s coffee with ice-cream
love it

@craigthom
You mean like this??
@chienfou Very much like that.
@chienfou @craigthom
What ailments might juniper be used for?
@craigthom @mike808
Gin is just good for what ails ya… Plain and simple.
@chienfou @mike808
