@Felton10 I have been looking for a Tickle Me Elmo to monsterfy… but as for collections… I have and pretty decent amount of Vintage electronics and cameras
@Koolhandjoe Hmm vintage cameras eh? How would you like to buy a 1998 Olympus OM1 and a pile of lenses, some filters flashes, several different mirrors, cases for all… It all works however I suspect the foam seal needs replaced. Also there is a spec of dust you can see through the view finder.
@Koolhandjoe I would definitely be interested in that if you can get your hands on one and work your magic. She has Elmos from all over the world , but I’ll bet she doesn’t have one that has been monsterfied. In fact, any Elmo that would you could monsterfy would do.
@Star2236 me too! My husband…not so much… I’m adding welding to the wheelhouse this month. Now I will have lasers, glass/ceramics and molten metal at my disposal. Should yield some interesting results!
@speediedelivery@tinamarie1974 But purses don’t get dirty and need to be washed. They serve the same purpose whether new or old-to carry things around.
@speediedelivery@tinamarie1974 Don’t encourage her anymore. I told her last night when I got into bed I had posted a picture of her purse on Meh and I am sure she is going to want to see what people commented.
We went to an art exhibit earlier this week and while sitting around for it to open another women gave my wife a complement on the purse. I told that women the same thing-not to encourage her.
Running purse - that would be called a hip pack purse
Yard work purse - don’t need one if you are at your house, if you do that for a living you may need a backpack purse
rock climbing purse - at a minimum that is a chalk bag purse and depending on what you are doing rock climbing may include a drag kit purse (there are many kinds from day climb purses to if you are spending the night on the cliff face purse) , a climbing cam purse (you have many choices there from the minimalist carabiner clip to climbing harness purse to something far more fancy)…
Weigh lifting purse - that would be your purse you use to carry to and from the gym your change of clothes, gloves if you need them, water, etc.
And of course you can be fashion conscious with these as you can buy these purses to match your specialized shoes/clothes you’d use for these different activities.
Hmm… I’ll ponder this while I’m eating the pizza I have packed in my lunch purse.
Later, I’ll haul my work laptop home in my backpurse.
This weekend I hope to have a little time to remove my foot-purses and crack open a beer purse.
But right now I think my favorite purse is the large plastic one with a screw-off lid that I have under my desk. It is full of peanut M&Ms.
@Felton10@Limewater@speediedelivery@tinamarie1974 Ha! On river trips with adjudicated youth canoeing across the state of FL I got very good at eating my M&M’s (aka vitamin M when we talked about our stash around the kids) out of my 1 liter water bottle purse while I was in the stern of a canoe with a JD in the bow. Never got caught doing it.
@Felton10@speediedelivery@tinamarie1974
We don’t plan on getting married, we both prefer a domestic partnership or whatever you call it. Pm and I will explain more.
State, park, and other different quarters since they started coming out. I used to keep them all (ended up with $800 in state quarters but still missing one state mintmark untill I specifically bought it). I don’t save any more state quarters (got multiple sets) except for Nevada (my home state) but do save all the newer ones still.
Copper pennies, 1981 and older. Bicentennial quarters, halves, and dollars.
The very occasional silver US coin I see in change. Got a bag of them in safety deposit box inherited or saved for decades.
Some Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) memorabilia and systems that can and do run VMS, the best commercial/scientific O/S ever.
@duodec
What do you do with the 1981 and older pennies and wheat pennies? My dad has a shit ton of them and my brothers think their worthless. I tell them their not.
@Star2236 I actually started out collecting pennies, and had a couple of collecting book/folders that were pretty full (missing the real rarities). It just became a habit, and when .gov changed to the shitty plated zinc pennies, I just started setting aside the copper ones I came across in change. I don’t go out of my way to find/buy them.
Many wheatback pennies have numismatic value (worth more than a few cents). Any copper penny has a metal melt value of about 2.9 cents apiece today, based on current copper prices. I do not plan to melt them down but in a way they are their own small store of value.
If you look at ebay for just bulk copper pennies (not even wheatback) they are often selling for 2x face value plus shipping (sometimes up to 3x or a little more).
Coincidentally nickels are 75% copper, 25% nickel, and currently worth about 5.9 cents each in metal value.
@duodec
Thanks for the info. I have many memories of being a kid and my dad giving me piles of change to look through and separate for older years. It’s nice to know all that time wasn’t wasted lol
@duodec everyone’s talking about your coins, but wait, you have working VMS systems? Important part of my college and early work career; fond memories. When I listed my 280ZX for sale, I said $11,780 because the VAX 11/780 was the “hot VAX” at the time. I don’t think anybody got the meaning, but it must have been fun if I still chuckle about it 40 yrs later.
@pmarin yep. I have a VAXstation 3100m76, an Alphastation PWS600au, and an Alphaserver DS10 in functioning (though it has been a few years since I booted the VAXstation) condition. The PWS is licensed, the others are running the last of the HP Hobbyist licenses that expire at the end of the year.
@duodec@Star2236 Look at the 1943 and 1944 cents. In 1943, the made the steel cents (because of the war), but some 1943 cents that are copper and some 1944 cents that are steel, snuck through and are worth BIG bucks.
Actually, there are quite a few different varieties of pennies that are worth a bunch. You can find all kinds of info online, or follow collectors on YT.
Also, this year is the last year they will be making pennies, so keep your eye out for rolls of 2021’s. Some of them are selling for $30 -$40 bucks!!
@duodec@Tadlem43
I have to go to the bank and ask for some rolls of pennies. Where else would you get rolls of pennies from? I didn’t know this was the last year either, are they gonna phase them out?
@duodec@Star2236
Some stores, like Walmart or grocery stores, will give you rolls, as well, if they have them (large store like Walmart always have them). Those are actually great to go through because they haven’t been ‘picked’ through if you’re looking for error coins or rarities.
For new pennies, you can ask at stores, but you might have better luck at a bank. Most banks will just give you what they have. You can ask for new pennies, but don’t be surprised if they don’t give them to you. Just keep trying.
No. Not phasing them out, they are just going to stop minting them. There will be plenty in circulation for eons to come because of the volume already out there, but what’s out there is it.
Warning…if you get into coin/currency collecting, it’s addicting! There’s a lot to learn about it, but it can be very rewarding financially. It’s also very relaxing, challenging, interesting, and fulfilling. Every coin you receive as change is like a treasure hunt!
Right now I’m going through a box of 50 cent pieces. Cool!
If you have any questions, let me know!
@felton10 - is that collection in your house or hers? If in yours swipe an elmo to give to @koolhandjoe and tell her that elmo that is gone is “rent” on the space.
I would like to collect irks, but since they have gone to 50 and 100 that collection isn’t going so well these days.
Actually used to collect dolls as a kid, ships in bottles as an adult (although limited the number to something far fewer than that elmo collection. Mine all fit on one shelf and no that shelf is not the length of a house or room). Someone would probably accuse me of collecting camping gear although all of it is old, but usable. Oh wait - that would be collecting vintage camping gear. Right? I used to have a fairly large collection of musical instruments including a number of tin whistles (I play everything I have) but I have sold off a lot of it and just kept the things I play the most. And I believe I have an inadvertent collection of cat toys, mostly stored under and behind furniture.
@Kyeh Nope… there is a limit to how many I can have and give them each the attention they need/want - although they can self store themselves under and behind most of that same furniture.

@compunaut E-bay sells them for $25 - $30, which is a bit steep for me. In my dream world, I’d like to pay $15 or so, but I know how it is.
No particular brand, but (back to my dream world), the Goodell-Pratt brand (eggbeater), the eggbeater made in Germany (don’t know the brand), and Miller’s Falls brand are supposed to be the best. The problem is making sure the teeth are in good shape and they engage well.
As for the brace bit, I’d prefer one with a short offset. They still make them, but I think a vintage one will be better built. I don’t know much about the brands of them. They sell, new, anywhere from $30 - $175. WAY too much for me.
I keep looking in pawn shops, etc., but haven’t found anything yet.
( I know far too much about this to be an old woman. lol)
Thanks for keeping an eye out for me! Let me know if you find something, please!
@Tadlem43 In my experience, pawn shops are better for power tools, and aren’t usually much of a bargain. I do better at estate sales & auctions for price; eBay is often a good resource due to the sheer volume available (also good for checking market value).
Got interested in buying memorabilia from TV shows past and present. Got a couple of things from I Dream of Jeannie, Twilight Zone and Alf. But all the trinkets I got gathered dust and couldn’t be displayed properly.
Bought a couple of things from the “Americans” (license plates and FBI ID cards) and “Dexter”-door name plate.
Had these things mounted and framed-See below.
I have collected postcards since I was very young. I couple early ones are addressed to me as a 3-4 year old with the message to tell me not to bend them. Of course them are creased everywhere. I always liked having a picture with the little bit of information about it on the back from all over. I spent hours sorting and looking for new ones when I was young. It was a rule to send me a postcard when family went anywhere. I still look and purchase a few when I get out.
I have lots of Tom Clark gnomes. Planning to downsize them because space and I have some doubles.
A few other knickknacks type things just because I like them. Way too many things. This pile needs downsized too.
Coins, currency, esp. errors, star notes, etc.
Some sports cards. I used to collect NASCAR stuff. Now I just want to get rid of it.
And…evidently…cats in my backyard.
@Tadlem43 I watch for the star notes for my Dad. My DH does sportcards. Do you do sets or players/ teams? He likes older stuff and Green Bay but has a wide range in players or sets.
@Tadlem43 Hey, I have a cat collection too! Not deliberately but if they were worth money I’d be rich! All they are worth is keeping the mouse population low which is actually worth a lot when you live on a farm.
@speediedelivery I don’t really do any now. I used to collect both, players (like Nolan Ryan, etc.) and some teams, but mostly specialty sets, like Coke sets, etc.
@PooltoyWolf I don’t have any inflatable animals, (I don’t think), but I have an inflatable telephone from an Irk I’ll send you if you pay the postage. lol
@PooltoyWolf Back in 2010 or so, Woot! had inflatable fighter jets for sale; about 5-6ft long, big enough for 1 or 2 toddlers to play on. Probably still have it packed away somewhere.
@Felton10
MeTV had a show (I think it has ceased production) called “The Collector’s Call” that spot-lighted people’s collections, and I think that Elmo collection looks to almost be at that size and scope.
@DrWorm Oh dang, I hope it’s not over for good! They had pandemic episodes and everything! I geniunely love that show.
Cool lady appraiser: I have brought what is essentially a gift for your collection and would like a token piece of garbage in return.
Collector: … No… No, I need the token piece of garbage. Everything is important.
Cool lady appraiser: Here it is anyway.
@cinoclav My adorable shark-goat-hound has been diligently applying herself to randomly destroying Meh purchases. I thought we were done, but today I caught her dismantling a solar light.
@f00l I kinda want to do a Meh exchange where people sign up to send stuff or pay postage, and those of us with too much stuff send to those who will pay postage.
Kind of like the bottle imp, where you pass the curse on to a willing sucker who pays for it.
I have several collections… magnets from travels, decks of used playing cards from casinos I have stayed in Vegas, vintage cookbooks,
some antiques. But after spending the last few months trying to cull my mom’s house of over 60 years of collecting, I am seriously rethinking the whole collecting thing.
@ironcheftoni That does bring a new and unhappy perspective to things, doesn’t it. We had to let so much go when clearing our parents’ homes; it was just impossible to keep or ‘individually handle’ all of it.
@duodec she’s always had a problem with collecting but the last 20 years is bordering on obsession. First buying nearly every cooking related item on QVC; in multiples because for gifts you know. Then shopping local estate sales and garage sales. I’ve counted 10 cookware sets; one has never been used that my sister took. Hundreds of Lock & lock storage containers.
Countless pieces of depression glass. SEVENTEEN deviled egg plates. I know Marilyn Schwartz once wrote in A Southern Belle Primer that a deviled egg plate is an absolute must have in all Southern Women’s homes but I don’t think she meant to have 17 of them.
My folks have sold their business, they have talked about moving into a smaller place but the main issue is mom wants to keep everything.
@duodec@ironcheftoni My parents, but especially mom, had the ‘depression mentality’ and always had extra stuff stashed. She isn’t as bad as her mom was though. When she downsized it was easier to have her tell me the story of, for example, each piece of fabric she had - what she bought it for, who she was going to make something for, etc. Took a better part of the day to go through all her fabric but she found it less stressful and easier to part with stuff than my sister’s approach which was, “you have 5 seconds - which box - keep, donate, give to someone specific?”. Also taking photos of some stuff, keeping just the photos, helps too.
One thing I didn’t mention was when I was going though my “Breaking Bad” obsession period. I had seen an interview on Sunday morning with Bryan Cranston on CBS Sunday morning about his 6th and final season was about begin next week and it sounded interesting (had been watching Dexter which aired at the same time). So I bought the DVDs and watched all the previous episodes (approx 56 of them) in 8 days so I would be up-to-date and could start watching the new season in real time.
Tried to get some of the shows memorabilia but it was really expensive-got a small pack of the blue meh (rock candy actually) and a small piece of the tarp that they used to cover houses when they were cooking meh inside. But this was the best thing I got.
I’m a girl so I have a thing for purses and shoes. But as collections go I collect shot glass from city/state I’ve been or if someone goes somewhere I ask them to bring me back a shot glass. I also have a small collection of those glass paper weights with the flowers inside and really cool uniquely made wind chimes. Everything’s still packed away from moving I need to find a way to display everything. I’d like to hand all my wind chimes in one room. I also like to have something g hand made to display my shit glasses
Turns out…debt.
I guess “accrue” is a more accurate word though.
I was thinking about it and I don’t collect anything to this level. I used to collect movie ticket stubs since I was a kid. I have 3 Funko Pops.
@Targaryen Funko Pops are fun. I got the Bob Ross ones and a few Xenomorphs.
@Felton10 I have been looking for a Tickle Me Elmo to monsterfy… but as for collections… I have and pretty decent amount of Vintage electronics and cameras
@Koolhandjoe that would be epic!
@Koolhandjoe I might still have a Tickle mMe Elmo…give me some time to go through all my storage shit and if I do still have him he is yours.
@Koolhandjoe I would definitely be interested in that if you can get your hands on one and work your magic. She has Elmos from all over the world , but I’ll bet she doesn’t have one that has been monsterfied. In fact, any Elmo that would you could monsterfy would do.
@Kidsandliz When it comes to the cameras I only collect 1980 and before… appreciate the offer though
@Koolhandjoe If you’re interested, someone I have a teddy bear that recites “Now I lay me down to sleep”…
@brainmist Always interested… do you happen to have a picture by chance?
@brainmist @Koolhandjoe Lays down to sleep on a nail bed that has an extra long nail or two stabbing through it… (creepy laugh).
I collect hobbies…
@sillyheathen
I like that.
@Star2236 me too! My husband…not so much… I’m adding welding to the wheelhouse this month. Now I will have lasers, glass/ceramics and molten metal at my disposal. Should yield some interesting results!
I collect records and CDs of bands that most people have never heard of!
Dust, mostly
@heartny Technically speaking, you’re generating it. Approximately 50% of house dust is comprised of sloughed-off dead skin cells.
@ELJAY So basically I collect myself?
@heartny I collect items to artfully display my dust.
If you must draw in it, please do not date it
Not much of anything I guess, especially compared to that super creepy room of Elmo eyes staring at me
I would say shoes and/or purses, but at some point they get donated to make room for new purchases.
I guess hockey memorabilia has been a constant hobby throughout my life. Yup. Sticking with hockey/St Louis Blues!! Shocked aren’t ya?!?!?
/giphy Blues hockey stick
There’s my hometown boy!!!
@tinamarie1974 My wife collects purses also-two new ones in the past month. Where in the heck is she going that she needs multiple purses though?
@Felton10 you just never know!!!
@Felton10 @tinamarie1974 You don’t wear the same clothes everywhere. You chose based on the occasion. Same with purses.
I know someone who takes her new purses out of the package before she gets home so if her DH asks is not new!
@speediedelivery @tinamarie1974 But purses don’t get dirty and need to be washed. They serve the same purpose whether new or old-to carry things around.
@Felton10 @speediedelivery doesn’t matter. They need to be stylish and match ones outfit/shoes.
@speediedelivery @tinamarie1974 this is the one she just bought for $ 200.
@Felton10 @speediedelivery @tinamarie1974 So you do only own one pair of shoes for all occasions?
@tinamarie1974 Wait. What? You don’t collect wonder women stuff? Or whips?
@Felton10 @speediedelivery oh that is stunning
@Kidsandliz one whip, and a handful of WW stuff…including my three beautiful Funko’s
@Felton10 That looks like rainbow amphibian eyeballs. Or some sort of pod that just hatched a bunch of something.
@Felton10 @speediedelivery @tinamarie1974 @katbyter
I kind of hate it, myself…but then I use the same little purse all the time.

@Felton10 @speediedelivery you know what they say, don’t ask of you don’t want the truth
To Mrs. FELTON - I fully understand and support your need to update your purse collection on a regular basis. Also, your new bag is beautiful!!
@speediedelivery @tinamarie1974 Showed my wife your comment (under duress) and she said if you liked that one, you would love this one.

Too much stuff.
@speediedelivery @Tadlem43 My DH plays with cards too. By year, always the year.
@tripletmeme Same here! And now I have some kittens! Want some?
Cosmic rays. Ooops, there goes another one!
Inflatable animals, vintage electronics, model trains, some other things…
@PooltoyWolf I don’t have any inflatable animals, (I don’t think), but I have an inflatable telephone from an Irk I’ll send you if you pay the postage. lol
@Tadlem43 Inflatable telephone? You have piqued my interest!
@PooltoyWolf Let me dig through the muck and see if I can find it. I’ll post a pic.
@PooltoyWolf
@PooltoyWolf Heck, if you’ll whisper your name and address, I’ll just send it to you. It’ll fit in a small, brown envelope.
@Tadlem43 I love it LOL!
@PooltoyWolf Back in 2010 or so, Woot! had inflatable fighter jets for sale; about 5-6ft long, big enough for 1 or 2 toddlers to play on. Probably still have it packed away somewhere.
@compunaut Oh wow, that’s a cool-looking jet
@PooltoyWolf Hmmm, all those flags on either side of the cockpit canopy - that’s an F-35!
Probably one of the prototypes
@compunaut It’s a good thing they moved to a more ‘solid’ design for the production units. XD
@Tadlem43 Blow up phone arrived today! Will make a great fursuit prop
@PooltoyWolf lol Good. Glad you got it. Enjoy!
@Tadlem43 Thank you again!!
Shot glasses. From places we’ve visited or friend and family brought back for us. A few are home made.
There are four cases plus the shelf.
as i age, i collect less
i still have a too large collection of coffee cups, only theme being, well coffee, LOL
@Cerridwyn Coffee is an excellent theme for coffee cups – good choice!
@pmarin
Craft supplies.

Magic cards
Unfinished items on my To-Do list, apparently.
@macromeh Hey…me too!!!
Commercial and amateur radios, vintage computers and video game systems, currency. And Honey-dos.

@railek COOL!!
@railek Well I know what to send YOU next time I participate in a Meh exchange!
@Felton10
MeTV had a show (I think it has ceased production) called “The Collector’s Call” that spot-lighted people’s collections, and I think that Elmo collection looks to almost be at that size and scope.
https://www.metv.com/collectors-call
@DrWorm She has over 1,000 Elmos from all over the world.
Stuff from Meh that I shouldn’t have bought in the first place. I have a lovely collection all over the house.
@cinoclav My adorable shark-goat-hound has been diligently applying herself to randomly destroying Meh purchases. I thought we were done, but today I caught her dismantling a solar light.
There were two left in the box.
Out of 5.
@cinoclav NO I DONT KNOW WHERE THE REST ARE.
I collect stuff that I thought would be cool or useful, and that I now need to get rid of.
Sigh.
@f00l I kinda want to do a Meh exchange where people sign up to send stuff or pay postage, and those of us with too much stuff send to those who will pay postage.
Kind of like the bottle imp, where you pass the curse on to a willing sucker who pays for it.
@brainmist @f00l Hey you can run that exchange if you want to. I am sure you’d have takers.
@duodec @ironcheftoni My parents, but especially mom, had the ‘depression mentality’ and always had extra stuff stashed.
House plants
@dyounghbic me too!! I love them so.
Pokemon of the “Go” variety.
@Felton10 “blue meh”!
@Felton10 how many purses is it worth
@Kyeh Had meh on the brain I guess.
@tinamarie1974 More than I could afford. One piece of memorabilia from the show sold for over 80k.
Hope we haven’t gone off the bubble wrap standard and are now on the purse standard.
@Felton10 oh I like that…but purses vary so much in price. It would be hard to nail down a number.
@Felton10 @tinamarie1974 Well your next irk might be purses (since your wife collects them) full of balls…
@Star2236
Have you considered displaying your nicer glasses instead?
@Limewater
Meant to say have something hand made to display my shot glasses lol
@Star2236 I live in Dallas. I’ll get you a couple from here if you’d like.
@Felton I must point out that that is, in fact, a padded cell.
Padded with Elmos, but padded.
@brainmist Also, I collect rusty old farm implements, particularly axes. Just in case anyone needs ideas for a Mehxchange.
(I’m kidding, most of mine have particular sentimental value).
@brainmist Regardless, I wasn’t sleeping in that room.
Paychecks…
@chienfou
