This is sort of cool and it's almost like a game ttrying to see how many you can get in the allocated time.
Scores:
31 = Pilot
20-30 Normal
15-20 Lower Than Normal
11-15 Worse Than Bad

That neon green one.... I just don't see it
@girlgonemild I found it's easier to see them when you get farther away from the screen. If you're too close, you can't see it.
@cengland0 I agree with this. Also, just moving around in general to change my viewing angle seems to help!
I scored 30, but I started about 7 seconds in.
@lichme I guess part of the eye test is if you can read the instructions on the first page before you press Start. It's a weird contrast and I didn't see it right away so I did the same thing as you.
I scored 28 on my first try.. I'm going to give it one more shot. I was like 3 or 4 past the neon green, but the one I wasted my last 5 seconds on I could not see any differences at all..
Odd, I got 34 this time, and never saw neon green.. So the colors must be kind of random..
Got a 42 after way too many tries! I'm finding that the really bright colors are actually the easiest for me, and anything purple-ish are harder to spot the different one. I had one round where there were like 4 different black ones, and I could never spot the difference, I just clicked randomly until I got past it
I can't seem to hit 42 again, but I've got to 41 a bunch of times now. I get either 39 or 41 almost every time..
Damn. I only got 22. Good thing I'm not a pilot?
Tried again. Still only 24. The purple is killing me.
Okay, on my phone, as opposed to my big fancy monitor at work, I got 33 first time.
24 - The purple ones made my eyes see wonky.
@emilyap That's what's getting me too. What's wrong with us?
@joelmw The purple ones also get me.
@juststephen @emilyap So I do a fair amount of color-related work. This is making me think I should second-guess myself in a certain range.
@joelmw This makes me glad my work with computers doesn't involve colors. Unfortunately, it does involve spreadsheets...
@emilyap
I use lots of color in my spreadsheets too. But I'm either deliberately going for a gradient effect or I make sure to keep them in sharp contrast (for reviewing discrepancies and such).
@emilyap Which actually makes me realize that maybe it's better to be more in the normal range for actual effectiveness. I've had colleagues argue with the end-users of their products because the colors were totally pleasing to the product's creator but indecipherable to the end-user.
@joelmw That just reminded me of an issue we had a while back concerning various shades of yellow. Good times, good times.
@emilyap Dangit, can't do better than a 25. Same monitor, different ambient light. And I so wanted to be a pilot...
27, so i'm normal. which is not what my psychologist tells me.
@carl669 I thought with those weird slits that goats have, that would have improved your vision.
@carl669 I'm gonna side with your psychologist on this one. And you shine on, you crazy diamond.
23 the first time, now i'm going to try sliding back a bit. Its the pinks and reds that get me.
@RedHot 27 with 15 seconds left, I just couldn't find the tiny dark green one!
33 and a twitch in my eye that won't quit. Damn bifocals.
@jaremelz Does that make you a top-gun pilot?
@cengland0 Be right back, heading off to the danger zone. ...
Am I the only one that started out worse than bad? All of you normal+ eyed people!
@girlgonemild Are you color blind at all? Can you see the numbers in all these circles:
@cengland0 I can see them all! I would say the 6 is the hardest though? Maybe that is related to my problem with the neon green. My score has gotten better after several more rounds but boo that I seem to be only one traveling on the learning curve.
@girlgonemild At least you're getting better. My second time dropped from 24 to 22.
@girlgonemild A good carpenter always blames his tools. It's probably your computer monitor. :D
Played three times, my best is 33.
@juststephen 38 now
I need to try again, perhaps on the tablet instead of the phone. I've got 2 boys, both are color-blind. Neither can see red or green. One swears pink is his favorite color. My father swore yellow was his, and he saw only blue.
@jaremelz Can they see the numbers in the circles above?
@cengland0 The only one they've ever seen clearly is the first one. It didn't develop until each was around 5-6 years old. It's passed from the mother's father mostly. We're very excited to see the results of the human trials coming up (hopefully) in the next year on the one time injection to cure it.
@jaremelz That first one is the easiest for me to see. It's so clear that the number stands out like a sore thumb. Although I don't know how a sore thumb stands out, or how that phrase really works.
@cengland0 The most common deficiencies in seeing colors are red and green. People can have a slight red/green deficiency and it just makes it tougher to discern them, because you can't see the full pigment. I wonder if that's the case for you.
first time through, 17.
22 first try, 27 second try.
I swear on some of these they forgot to put one that's different!!
@kadagan Bottom row, third from the right.
@kadagan I think it's the bottom row, third one in from the right. Just a shade lighter than the others.
@emilyap @bluedog you guys are right. I used Gimp to determine it, but my computer crashed before I could share it.. haha
Y'all just got me, like, flagged at work. Big red message saying I'm not allowed. Pretty sure they keep a tally of that stuff.
@kr1sk Don't forget to blame @carl669 when your manager writes you up.
@kr1sk sooo...you got flagged for doing this eyesight test thing, presumably because you were supposed to be working. and then you thought it would be a good idea to post on this forum, again, presumably, while you were supposed to be working. @bluedog - yeah... no. i'm washing my hands of this one.
@kr1sk Yeah, it was blocked at my job too. Had to wait until I got home.
@carl669 I'm not sure you're aware of the duties of the scapegoat...
@kr1sk lots of filters block ip address urls as mostly bad stuff uses them and very little legit content does.
@kr1sk That shit happens to me all the time. Two different jobs. IT's got better things to do than track all of the violators. That being said, one org I worked for fired for basically selling stuff on eBay all day. So, yeah, your mileage may vary. It helps to be close to the guys in the right IT groups. After my first wife died I was on Facebook almost literally all day long and a buddy called me up and said, "Dude, you gotta watch that." Okay, so maybe they are watching. But I bet there are more violators who violate more than you imagine.
@PocketBrain please see my post here: https://meh.com/forum/topics/time-to-think-about-nominations-for-the-april-goat
That was fun. 35 on the first try
This site is stupid for color deficient people. (Scored 24 twice) Then I scored 30 twice... Is this making my eyes better?
My tip: I found I did better if I looked off to the side of the boxes, the off color one stands out, for me at least. After doing this, I started scoring around 33-34
Finally hit 35. It's definitely easier for me to see the bright/neon colors than the dark ones, especially the blues and purples. I started wearing reading glasses on occasion about 2 years ago but I did worse with them on.
Wouldn't your monitor calibration affect your score here? If so I don't see the point.
@katylava ssshhhh!! we're trying to waste time. quite bringing logic into this.
@katylava In a way, no. Regardless of how poorly your monitor is calibrated, that one individual square is still going to be a different shade.
@cinoclav maybe, but maybe not as easy to discern the difference
@carl669 Good goat.
@katylava Your monitor's settings can definitely affect your score. On my tablet's IPS screen, the brighter the backlight is, the lower I score...by a significant amount. Comparing scores on this test is meaningless unless you're all using the exact same monitor in the same lighting conditions. By which I mean, you and your coworkers or family members all sitting at the same desk.
Running out to buy my flight simulator program and stick now...
26 on my first. Fun game.
The ability to score highly has a lot to do with the quality of your monitor, the color depth settings and the ambient lighting conditions...
I mainly don't like that they used a layout that creates a Scintillating grid illusion:
@JonT 2nd row, 2nd from the left!
@JonT Thanks for knowing/finding the name for that. I knew it had to have one. And, yes, I mostly don't like that either (it's kinda cool, so I'm a little ambivalent).
@joelmw I had to look it up, but I knew that there was a name for it. I'm glad you appreciated it!
My best is 31 but I averaged 26-28. I'm clearly worse in the blue/purple range so I do better when I get fewer of those grids.
On the flipside I'm nearly blind from staring at my monitor that intently. So there's that.
I set a new personal record! I have wasted way too much time on this stupid thing!
@cengland0 do you know who's hosting this thing? It is kind of strange that it's just an IP address.
@kadagan The IP is Japanese and WeChat is an application that I am finding mostly Asian news articles on. WeChat is made by Tencent (a huge Chinese internet-based company). I assume this game is something you load through their application on a phone.
I am freakin' blind! Got a lousy 12 every time. It could be my monitor which I've never been able to adjust right. Or I could blame it on my video card. But I think it's me.
@Teripie The blame should go to @Carl669
