@The_Baron as a 16yr grocery cashier, i can tell you, everyone is forgetting the other 2 parts of the OMG SNOW freakout purchase. the full thing is Bread, Milk, Beer, and Eggs. and the Beer might belong a little higher on that list.
@earlyre Lol - Alright, totally on me. And normally, I'd ask what the hell you're doing as a grocery cashier at 35, but I've known a few people to work in some grocery stores and they've made great money with great benefits.
@duodec I've got all the rice and lentils and other assorted dry goods I could need. I'm just worried about elderly and disabled folks. Hopefully neighbors can help keep tabs though.
@Lotsofgoats You don't have to worry about us elderly folks, dude. Screw rice and lentils, we're stocked up with Viagra and scotch. Any more patronizing comments, I'll run over you with my aluminum walker.
I've done absolutely nothing, especially being that I have to be at work at 7 am and people won't stop getting sick just because it's going to snow. If I need something, I'll get it after work. I hate the idiots who make a mad rush to the market because they might be snowed in for a whole 24 hours.
@Cinoclav Even if it's more than 24 hours, most people do have enough food in their house to last! I don't do that last minute shopping thing, I don't like shopping with the crazies! Looking forward to a nice couple of days off though :)
@Cinoclav I live in Northern Michigan, and two feet of snow is your average Tuesday in February, so all this snowmageddon crap makes us laugh. Used to live in Philly and damn, I miss Wawa hoagies (but not the prices for everything else).
@jsh139 And we will continue to hype it as long as it brings in the viewers and those sweet, sweet advertising dollars. Why do you think The Weather Channel unilaterally decided to start naming winter storms?
@Pamtha The two in my neighborhood don't have gas stations which kind of sucks as Wawa gas is usually one of the cheapest. Of course I work in New Jersey so nobody around here is beating what I pay. They're old school Wawas! Actually, the one down the street was once the busiest Wawa in the entire chain.
@venussuz I'd be perfectly fine with 2 feet of snow. It would keep more of the asses off the roads around here. Yeah, know what you mean. Wawa is awesome but you definitely don't want to buy your groceries there.
@Cinoclav@dashcloud Yep we got an update to Freestyle. Our Firehouse Sub's have always had them, and Noodle and Company does too. Coke Zero Lime please!
@Headly Ugliest man in Rock and Roll. Love his music, but remember as a teenager the first time I saw him on MTV, I was like "Whoa, what the fuck!". If ever there was a face made for radio. Dayam.
Yeah, we're set to get like whole foot of snow. World's gonna end. We didn't go stock up either - it does crack me up to see grocery stores and such just, wiped out for a week, then we end up getting like 3 inches of snow.
@Thumperchick If their power goes out bet they don't have an alternate heat source (other than a candle, a lighter, and maybe a pack of cigarettes). May not have a pot to melt ice in either (big city folks in towers).
The real problem is that my Built cases just got to Edison. Now theyre gonna be lost in the system for days! I might even get my Fuku before they get here. How will I protect my 30 Kindle Fires?
@MrGlass Mine have actually left Edison, making the trip 30 miles North.. I may actually see them tomorrow... If the USPS lives up to their rain, snow and sleet credo... Florham Park trucks were pulled off the road at 2PM today.. Amidst flurries. Bastards.
Thank goodness the delivery of my Built NY Assorted Bundle has been rescheduled to tomorrow, since the office was closed on Saturday. I am sure I'll find something clever to do with them in the snow. Maybe I'll make icepads and snowkindles. Or snowtops? I guess it depends on what's in the assortment.
@heartny I have to laugh cause my 60 Built NY whatevers have been rescheduled from Thursday delivery to Friday. And they're flipping 2 hours away from me!
@The_Baron Until the tragic but inevitable betrayal [of your roof when it collapses from snow load]... Sorry, we did like having you here...The weight of 1 foot of fresh snow ranges from 3 pounds per square foot for light, dry snow to 21 pounds per square foot for wet, heavy snow (Gooch, 1999).
@The_Baron Awesome! Where there? I lived in Watertown and worked in Waltham and Peabody in the mid-eighties! Long before the Big Dig back when traffic was even horribler!
@er1c@thumperchick Oh yeah!!!… do that barefoot though the snow!!! And Snow angels!!! Surely photos of that will get @jont to send you something good besides a brown comforter if there are any of those left.
@Kidsandliz if @JonT ever sent me a comforter I'd mail it back to him in the form of 100 letters each containing 1/100th of the, now bloodstained, blanket which I will use to slaughter an antelope.
@Thumperchick I must have been too oblique - that would be streaking through the snow barefoot and making snow angels (yes there were photos without bathing suits - too gross)….
@Thumperchick OK now is this thread raunchy enough for you? I tried to keep it relatively "clean" (wearing bathing suit, long distance away back shot) and then look what happened.
@OldCatLady@Thumperchick Your honor, let the record show that the inciting incident ( http://goo.gl/BxcD4q ) started under the reign of a former goat ( http://goo.gl/LfLp2m ), ahem, who is, in fact one and the same with the person who's always talking about streaking. I suppose I do have to take the blame for the old goat's mischievous loitering, which I do, because that's my job. I would like to point out however that I anticipated this problem and proposed a brilliant solution (which seems all the more attractive to me as the day of my retirement draws near), but everyone scoffed. http://goo.gl/aCGUqj Everyone. Damnit, I think I scoffed. Fucking scoffers. Anyway, I thought y'all were talking about lameass Dell products.
@OldCatLady Just remember what happened the last time Hal was reading lips. That's not a threat or anything, but it would be a shame if some kind of accident were to occur, a real shame.
What is it with bread and milk? Is it a "white foods only" style thing (though it is after Labor Day). Might as well throw some ammo in to stave off the bread and milk-starved hordes. If I'm ever running out for anything, it's for American Spirits and 100 proof liquor.
@Cinoclav I have no freaking clue. I was thinking giant snowblower since obviously it didn't start 20' high, but that would not explain the reasonably straight walls.
@Lotsofgoats Maybe they spray it with a lot of water to create ice to help with keeping the walls up? I'b be afraid of a car wreck bringing it all down, not to mention during spring melt.
@er1c 45 degrees here (snicker)… of course when it even snows 1/2" this place is paralyzed. That being said I grew up in the snow belt (NE Ohio) and have cross country skied to work in northern Idaho
One thing I have never figured out is why people stock up on milk and meat and perishable shit, just before a major weather event. (I say "event" because we endure hurricanes here, not blizzards.) One thing that is almost sure to happen is power failure, be it a short time or several days. All the perishable stuff just doesn't store well without electricity.
@OldCatLady I've got a Deitz Blizzard lantern. Outside of its too new and shiney yet, I think they provide a good 'wasteland' aura, along with 800 or so BTUs of heat.
@Cinoclav There's one more use for last Twofer-Tuesday's 5800-mAH phone power pack: Keep your Meh button streak going in a winter storm power outage. You're welcome, @JonT, I'll take that Fuku now.
I’m in Florida. To cheer you up, as you face your immanent demise from THE STORM OF THE CENTURY, here’s a short video of dogs yodeling and Pomeranians pretending to be goats.
@joelmw I'm from Las Vegas. Since moving to ill-annoy I've hoped to see those legendary snows I heard so much about. Got decent snow (enough to get a snow day from work) twice in 24 years. Meh.
What I love about the stocking up scenario is that I don't so much eat bread or drink milk. As long as there's meat and some veggies and some liquor--which there pretty much always is--I'm good.
so here's the particularly uninteresting view from my apartment
roads are basically shot and BDB says no non-essential vehicles after 11PM. office is open tomorrow but they're telling us all to stay the hell away. so basically gj storm you're doing great.
I just left my house and walked to my Dad's. I wiped out pretty good coming down a slippery unplowed hill. I really wish I stuffed my pants with kindle sleeves. Probably wouldn't be so sore now
FB and Instagram are down, and it's most likely Snowmageddon related. Really glad that meh and the forums are up. Not quite sure what would happen if this went down too. Can the masses function like they did in the 90s?? Does imagination still exist?? I don't want to find out...
@MzSooze Naturally, as soon as I say something, they both come back up. Thanks, Snowmageddon, for making a liar out of me. :( I'll just go back to this imaginary list of who should play Beast alongside Emma Watson's Belle.
LAME. Called for 18-24" in my area. Woke up to find it's been downgraded to 3-5". I wasn't looking forward to the inconvenience, but I am more than a little disappointed that we didn't get much at all.
We got maybe an inch of snow in Northern VA. Now my dilrod neighbor is using his nuclear-powered snowblower to move all the snow off his driveway and into the street. I will stop whining now.
33 inches of snow and counting! @JonT why not a 2 for 1 tuesday on shovels today! Would have made a killing... If you have any shovels lying around the warehouse send them my way.
@bruinscbr Maybe you'll have more luck with @JonT. I asked @Snapster about it back in 2009. I don't remember ever seeing shovels as a deal. It might have to do with the fact that tomorrow's high is supposed to be in the 70s in Carrollton.
@Teripie This was my driveway this afternoon, in Boston. My car, in the middle, is mostly cleared off now but my neighbor's car the left one is completely buried. The snow drift in that corner is around 7-8ft now.
All the markets around here are sold out of milk and bread.
@derek17j Sorry, I was really, really hungry for soggy bread today.
@derek17j Thanks for the reminder! I'll stop by the bakery a block away in the morning.
@derek17j They could all be making meatballs or meatloaf and need to make a panade for that...
@derek17j
@The_Baron This would have been more accurate if the guy had a southern accent
@sammydog01 It's the same up here. All bread, milk, and eggs are gone at most stores.
@derek17j and everybody is having french toast for every meal on wednesday.
@derek17j It took an hour to check out at the Chelsea (Boston) Market Basket, but only 10min wait for a fucking shopping cart.
@derek17j Yeah, the local markets here are fresh out of people who give a shit. Today will be a little cooler (55F vs. 67F) than yesterday.
@The_Baron as a 16yr grocery cashier, i can tell you, everyone is forgetting the other 2 parts of the OMG SNOW freakout purchase. the full thing is Bread, Milk, Beer, and Eggs. and the Beer might belong a little higher on that list.
@earlyre As a 16 year old grocery cashier, you probably shouldn't be worrying where the beer falls on that list. ;)
@Cinoclav that's not what i said, I've BEEN a Cashier for 16 yrs.(I'm 35 thank you very much)
@earlyre Lol - Alright, totally on me. And normally, I'd ask what the hell you're doing as a grocery cashier at 35, but I've known a few people to work in some grocery stores and they've made great money with great benefits.
@earlyre The bars in Boston will proably be open, heh.
Best of luck y'all. Hope you were prepped, and hope you end up not really needing those preps.
@Cinoclav +1. The media lives for this crap and they hype it up so much.
@Cinoclav i work for a medical software co Since hospitals can't close, neither do we.
@jsh139 @Cinoclav BREAKING NEWS: SEVERAL FEET OF POORLY EXECUTED SNOW PUNS ARE EXPECTED
@derek17j Can you work from home?
@Cinoclav Even if it's more than 24 hours, most people do have enough food in their house to last! I don't do that last minute shopping thing, I don't like shopping with the crazies! Looking forward to a nice couple of days off though :)
@SavvySapphire Besides, I have only one thing to say that those in the Northeast (and the select few in Florida) will understand: Wawa.
@Cinoclav Also if the snow causes a power outage, there you are with extra food and, short of sticking things outside in the snow, no refrigeration
@Cinoclav Truly a wonder, though the change from rotating selections during Hoagiefest to everything available all the time was disappointing.
@dashcloud @cinoclav I hired a new guy from out of state. Felt odd to explain to him our fave lunch run is a gas station. #wawalove
@Cinoclav @pamtha Do yours have the cool new soda machines w/touchscreen that let you make all sorts of drink combos (and keep the foam down as well)?
@dashcloud You mean like the Coke Freestyle machines? My local stores don't have it. Though Wendy's is now putting them in and Five Guys has them.
@Cinoclav @dashcloud Yep we got an update to Freestyle. Our Firehouse Sub's have always had them, and Noodle and Company does too. Coke Zero Lime please!
I fired up the snow blower the other day to make sure it still works. Glad I finally get to use it.
@jsh139 I have an electric one. So far, so good. For the few times it gets used I don't have to worry about maintenance.
@jsh139 I did the same Saturday, now we're expecting like 2-3" if that. You're welcome, central Maryland!
Celebrity Winter Advice:
@Headly Ugliest man in Rock and Roll. Love his music, but remember as a teenager the first time I saw him on MTV, I was like "Whoa, what the fuck!". If ever there was a face made for radio. Dayam.
@Pavlov And yet, if he was so inclined he could get more action in a week than you or I have had our entire lives. And actually, he's aged quite well.
@Headly Touché.
@Headly Facelifted, thanks.
Yeah, I didn't know about this. And I live in Buffalo. But I never go anywhere so I doubt it'll impact me.
@HELLOALICE you're in the wrong part of NY for it, but even then I figure two feet of snow barely registers after the year you all had D:
@HELLOALICE Hope it hits the eastern side hard. I'm headed up to Gore for a ski weekend.
@HELLOALICE I am just south of Buffalo, and all I do is point and laugh at them all freaking out over a little snow.
Yeah, we're set to get like whole foot of snow. World's gonna end. We didn't go stock up either - it does crack me up to see grocery stores and such just, wiped out for a week, then we end up getting like 3 inches of snow.
@Thumperchick @Thumperchick I always wonder if those people normally eat all of their meals out.
@glindagw I think it's more that they don't realize how EASY it is to get your hands on clean drinking water... with a few feet of fresh snow outside.
@Thumperchick You gotta be kiddin me. Who's gonna eat NYC snow unless they've been in a desert for a week??
@Lifesart I was thinking of here in upstate.
@Thumperchick If their power goes out bet they don't have an alternate heat source (other than a candle, a lighter, and maybe a pack of cigarettes). May not have a pot to melt ice in either (big city folks in towers).
I'm hoping for the 3", I'm headed for NYC on Wednesday (first time that I've ever questioned not purchasing trip insurance).
@glindagw Eh, I'm sure you can find 3" in NYC. Start with the Asians.
The real problem is that my Built cases just got to Edison. Now theyre gonna be lost in the system for days! I might even get my Fuku before they get here. How will I protect my 30 Kindle Fires?
@MrGlass I should never have doubted the USPS. Cases showed up at my door while I was sitting on my ass too scared to go in to work.
@heartny kindle fire size is good for keeping a travel size bottle of chicken noodle soup warm.
@heartny I have to laugh cause my 60 Built NY whatevers have been rescheduled from Thursday delivery to Friday. And they're flipping 2 hours away from me!
i neglected to stock up. if i get hungry and things look really dire, i guess i'll eat the dog.
@annwat Your dog is probably thinking the same thing about you.
@annwat My kid gave me several recipes for spiders if you need them...
Forecast says 2-3ft for us, we will just stay inside.
@PhysAssist I'm in a 19th century Boston home. It has seen at least a dozen snow storms that were around 2ft.
@The_Baron Awesome! Where there? I lived in Watertown and worked in Waltham and Peabody in the mid-eighties! Long before the Big Dig back when traffic was even horribler!
@PhysAssist I live in Dorchester, which is completely different now then it was then. Seems to be better after we got all the "Wahlbergs" out.
@The_Baron I remeber driving through there a bunch of times. Has to be better with less Wahlbergs!
Please send some of that snow to the PNW! This has been the warmest Oregon winter I can remember 😢
@heli0s - Washington too.
EVERYBODY DISEMBOWEL AND CRAWL INTO YOUR NEAREST BELOVED FAMILY PET!
ESPECIALLY YOU @nathanK !
@er1c I'm pretty sure they smell worse on the inside.
@Thumperchick thats what she said. #rekt
@er1c umm what did @nathanK do to earn that remark? Enquiring (nosy) minds want to know...
@Kidsandliz he was birthed
@er1c Or thats what HE said!?
@thumperchick lmfao you actually have a thread open with the title "show me your streak"
@er1c @thumperchick Oh yeah!!!… do that barefoot though the snow!!!
@er1c Yep! Would you believe it, NO ONE posted anything risque!
@Thumperchick I must have been too oblique - that would be streaking through the snow barefoot and making snow angels (yes there were photos without bathing suits - too gross)….
@Kidsandliz Woo! My new phone lock screen(top one). Watch where your swipin! Pardon me 'Mam!
@BabyBear @Kidsandliz What happens when they turn over...
@Thumperchick OK now is this thread raunchy enough for you? I tried to keep it relatively "clean" (wearing bathing suit, long distance away back shot) and then look what happened.
@er1c Hmm don't like the color brown? I think that was about all they had (tans and browns) with the second sale...
@Thumperchick You just had to stir up trouble, didn't you?
@OldCatLady I didn't post any of this. Blame @joelmw
@OldCatLady @Thumperchick Your honor, let the record show that the inciting incident ( http://goo.gl/BxcD4q ) started under the reign of a former goat ( http://goo.gl/LfLp2m ), ahem, who is, in fact one and the same with the person who's always talking about streaking.
@Thumperchick I beg your pardon, my computer is not being empathetic today. I meant to blame @joelmw.
I'm sorry, @OldCatLady, I'm afraid I'm having trouble understanding you . . .
@joelmw Yeah, well, read my lips. Now go do what I just said.
@OldCatLady Just remember what happened the last time Hal was reading lips. That's not a threat or anything, but it would be a shame if some kind of accident were to occur, a real shame.
I like purple?
What is it with bread and milk? Is it a "white foods only" style thing (though it is after Labor Day). Might as well throw some ammo in to stave off the bread and milk-starved hordes. If I'm ever running out for anything, it's for American Spirits and 100 proof liquor.
With much love from Phoenix.
@margot Erg, Phoenix, talk about white bread!
@margot as i replied to the video further up, everyone here is forgetting the other 2 snow "necessities" Beer, and Eggs.
@earlyre I detect a distinct lack of enthusiasm for bacon, too. This is unnatural.
@margot
@OldCatLady Nah, I have 7 pounds in the freezer from Sam's Club. This might be a good time for some blts with milk.
I like purple.
Montana
Japan
Ya'll ain't no gripes 'till it looks like this...
@Kidsandliz how does somebody even drive through that without being terrified of a collapse or a breakdown or a wampa?
@Kidsandliz How the hell do they even manage to carve out that roadway? I've never seen equipment that can create a sheer 20' wall.
@Kidsandliz I want that
27inches expected in the shitty town of New Jersey called Hillsdale I live in.
@er1c 45 degrees here (snicker)… of course when it even snows 1/2" this place is paralyzed. That being said I grew up in the snow belt (NE Ohio) and have cross country skied to work in northern Idaho
@er1c 8-12 For Philly / S. Jersey. Should be a fun ride home after a 12 hour day at work.
You guys wanna send some to Wisconsin? We have green grass and the winter activities are suffering :/
@Trailmix Sure, we'll send you some. How do you want it?
@Lifesart why don't you send them a truck load of snowballs. Deliver it to the middle school.
@Kidsandliz Send it FedEx Smartpost. It'll arrive in June, along with a January Fuku.
I like purple.
@Teripie It is different in the snow. The problem is how to keep stuff warm.
@smilingjack Especially yourself!
@Teripie Don't forget candles, because nothing says 'doomsday prep' like curtains in a house fire.
@OldCatLady I've got a Deitz Blizzard lantern. Outside of its too new and shiney yet, I think they provide a good 'wasteland' aura, along with 800 or so BTUs of heat.
Do we get some sort of pass if we lose power and can't keep the meh button thing going?
Today might be the last one I can push for awhile.
@smilingjack Nope. Smart phones and these: https://meh.com/deals/powernow-10k-mah-power-bank
@Cinoclav I'm old. I don't have a smart phone yet. It is coming, there is really no choice, but not yet.
@smilingjack Maybe I'll figure out what my password is and make one of my kids do it. or.... I'll just screw up my streak ..... again....sigh
@smilingjack Eh, if you screwed it up once it doesn't matter now.
@Cinoclav There's one more use for last Twofer-Tuesday's 5800-mAH phone power pack: Keep your Meh button streak going in a winter storm power outage. You're welcome, @JonT, I'll take that Fuku now.
You forgot to add new buzzword :bombogenesis
@naropa There's a 'bad' word in there somewhere.
Well, Western WA is suffering fogmageddon. I'm hunkering down for the duration.
You win this time, East Coast. Or lose again depending on your perspective.
@KDemo The more of them without power tonight, the more of the virtually certain Fuku 5 there will be for the rest of us.
@duodec - Right! If it snows for a month and a half. F5 F5 F5 F5 F5
I’m in Florida. To cheer you up, as you face your immanent demise from THE STORM OF THE CENTURY, here’s a short video of dogs yodeling and Pomeranians pretending to be goats.
It's snowing.
It's not that exciting.
I hope everyone has enough speaker docks to make it through this.
@parodymandotcom Don't say you weren't given the opportunity to stock up.
I want snow. We're in Texas. We get an inch or two and they might give us a snow day. But I love snow. I'd take feet of it.
@joelmw
They named this thing Juno. Guess we're now naming weather so we can more easily swap stories. "Back in the day, when Juno hit...."
@Teripie
@joelmw It's a very pregnant storm.
@Teripie Juno, because she's expecting a bundle of...snow!
so here's the particularly uninteresting view from my apartment
roads are basically shot and BDB says no non-essential vehicles after 11PM. office is open tomorrow but they're telling us all to stay the hell away. so basically gj storm you're doing great.
@Lotsofgoats Invisible view?
@Lotsofgoats Wow. You can see Russia from your house.
I wonder how many Mehricans are getting hit by this storm?
You upper east coasters think you have it bad? It's lightly raining in Southern California right now.
@Ignorant its trying to rain in Arizona. so.. pretty comparable.
@Ignorant @mauisean ಠ_ಠ
@Ignorant bbbuut "It never rains in Southern California..it pours man it pours"
I just left my house and walked to my Dad's. I wiped out pretty good coming down a slippery unplowed hill. I really wish I stuffed my pants with kindle sleeves. Probably wouldn't be so sore now
If it snows in NYC.... it's snowing over the whole face of the earth.
@unixrab Yup.
Still waiting for this supposed huge snowstorm in the Philly 'burbs. I think we've gotten about an inch since last night. Figures.
The Weather Channel is in their 24/7 panic-cast and so far have had little to show.
Still going to use my snowblower, dammit.
you can have some of mine. Bring a snow blower please...
We were supposed to see flurries but just got drizzled on for about an hour last nite.
we got like 6 inches instead of 9000 so I give this storm a hearty meh
also anybody who uses the weather channel's winter storm naming is a bad person
We got maybe an inch of snow in Northern VA. Now my dilrod neighbor is using his nuclear-powered snowblower to move all the snow off his driveway and into the street. I will stop whining now.
@derek17j when will it stop.....
33 inches of snow and counting! @JonT why not a 2 for 1 tuesday on shovels today! Would have made a killing... If you have any shovels lying around the warehouse send them my way.
@bruinscbr Got any pictures? I'd love to see your snow. I'll show you my next hurricane pictures if you show me your blizzard pictures.
@Teripie hmm. Well its dark but maybe tomorrow.
We were told to expect 6"-12" and got a whopping 3" of snow. Didn't even get out the snowblower, just shoveled the sidewalk for the mailman.
@Thumperchick We were 6-24 and got 3''+ too! Still snowing here in southern new hampshire...
