FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK… was driving home from helping put up christmas trees in hospice and was in a car accident. My car is likely to be totaled out. A commercial truck backed into me and since he had no rear bumper the back of his truck went up over my hood and his trailer hitch went through my radiator.
It is a 13 year old car that I still owe on (bought when it was 10 when my 25 year old ghetto van blew an engine bearing; wanted another van, couldn’t afford a new enough one to get a car loan so settled on a honda element), Right now I don’t make enough for a car loan to be approved and there is no public transportation around here to speak of. My elderly cat is being incredibly expensive - although he is starting to recover. And my medical bills are mounting. I am beyond stressed out.

@Kidsandliz Wow, I am so sorry. I know it has been a very rough few weeks for you. You are in many of our thoughts (and prayers) throughout the day and I hope that things turn around soon and work out for the best. Please feel free to vent anytime you need.
@narfcake The trouble is a lawyer will take (at least around here) 40-45% so I’d come out ahead not doing that. I wasn’t hurt so no medical bills to run up the “cost”. The airbag didn’t even go off. If this had been an expensive car then it would have been a no brainer for the insurance company to fix it. But because it is a 2005 with nearly 200,000 miles on it they are likely going to total it. Agent said on the phone that it will probably be totaled.

All jokes aside thank you. I think I am finally going to have to resort to a gofundme to try to deal with my financial mess if they total out my car rather than fix it. The better alternative would be a good job as then I could dig out, but right now all I have is part time temporary crap strung together. Hard to figure out what to say in a cover letter to deal with a gap in my vitae that was due to cancer #2 and #3 in the same year. Use the C word and that scares off people and I sure as heck am not going to tell them that cancer #3 has no cure, when it comes back, if I have a good job by then, I am going to pretend it is a new cancer. Say family issues and they wonder what you are hiding. I haven’t found a good way to deal with it.
@tnhillbillygal Oh yeah. I forgot this one. A 24" water main broke the day before yesterday. Still no water here. Around 60,000 of us without water.

@moonhat I am tired. Just so tired. I can’t seem to get a break. Every time I turn around something else bad happens that is expensive. Some else bad happens that causes me lot of problems. I start to get ahead and it is like there is a plot to make sure I get wiped out again.

@Kidsandliz Damn! And I thought I was up Shit creek with a turd for a paddle…Well, I guess I still am but you are on some level 4 diahrea rapids. That being said, it sounds as though you are doing what you can to keep your head up and keep on moving forward, and for that i definitely applaud you. When life we decided to sitck it to me, i couldn’t(or at least didn’t want to) deal with it, I just shut the hell down and just kind of quit life-ing(different from living) for a few years and I’m still trying to plan my triumphant return. So for whatever its worth, good job, keep rolling with the punches and keep looking forward and I really think things will work out you in the end!

A thought: know anyone handy with cars? Since it was low speed there’s probably no structural damage. If it gets totaled, buy it back, replace the radiator & bumper, profit?
Not as simple as I’m making it sound, but maybe worth a look.
@blaineg I only wish. But it is far more than the bumper and radiator. It is also the hood, every single piece of plastic and metal on the front, windshield wiper fluid container, and I don’t know what else from the radiator being pushed back because I can’t open the hood. I don’t have money to fix it, that is part of the problem. And then there are the things I was going to fix on Tuesday which the estimate was around $2200 (things like struts, shocks. some V-tech something or other) that will still need done… I just don’t have it. The money I spent on Tuesday to fix things is now money down the drain (some of it was things like radiator flush…) and fortunately I didn’t have time to have them get all of it done or I’d have put a match to even more money).
Been trying to get a handle on my outstanding bills (necessary but panic inducing). I just now added up cat vet bills/meds just since my temp full time job ended mid May and they come to $2782.96 - much of that is still on my credit card. And what I have spent since mid Nov isn’t even showing yet and that is over $500, by how much I don’t know as I haven’t been keeping track.
Fortunately I am done with christmas and to satisfy my mom, who threatened not to give me any christmas money if I didn’t spend at least some of it on myself, I bought a meh flask shirt so now I will have something to show her as proof (the rest is going for bills).
@sicc574 I am sorry you are having a tough time too. I am not so resilient as I can sound. This morning I have been adding up all bills (by category) and I am beyond discouraged. There have been plenty of tears and putting one foot in front of the other has been a struggle at times, especially with how everything is piling up. Good luck to you with pulling yourself out of your hole. I know it isn’t easy. There are a bunch of us on this forum who know, first hand, how hard it can be. Unfortunately meh has not yet sold a working magic wand.
I’ve been bingeing Dark Shadows on the Amazon Show in my kitchen while I do dishes and cook. Amazon split it into “Dark Shadows” and the earlier episodes, “Dark Shadows the Beginning”. Whe I ask for the beginning she often gives me the first episode of the second series. I watch it every day, you bitch- why can’t you figure it out? Blame for not selling meh popsockets. New phone case has a textured back and the adhesive on my cherished and venerable meh popsockets just ain’t got the suck they used to to stay stuck.

That’s my fault too as I try to turn it down to a simmer overnight and must have shut it down too far, lol. @tnhillbillygal Thanks! It was blood tests, and I peeked at my chart online. I’m pretty sure it is going to be about my Hemoglobin A1C being a little high. My PSA, cholesterol, and everything else seems to be pretty normal to low. But I aint no doctor.
I went through my Mom getting a little lung cancer before she passed away so being a former smoker, that’s always in the back of my mind. She had various little skin cancers too over the years but I haven’t seen the dermatologist yet.
@therealjrn @tnhillbillygal If you call the office and ask them to put you on a standby list, they will call if they have a cancellation, and you can get in sooner. People cancel all the time.
@therealjrn @tnhillbillygal I don’t think they can tell that from a blood test tho. Nothing ever showed in his blood when hubby got it. Sucks to have to wait that long tho… and they know it.

But it just begins there. I can’t fly out of my local airport and make the meeting times, so I have to drive 2.5 hrs to another airport, stay overnight, and then catch an early flight to Atlanta, and then another to Cali. Returning, I have to catch a flight to Texas, and another back home (late, late), just to stay in a hotel another night, before driving home the next day. How a stupid 3 day trip turns into five just IRKS me!!!

Thought I would hardwire my Chromebook to the router for a faster connection in the attempt to get an I.R.K.
When I disconnected it, my router was no longer working for wireless. Even though all the lights and router diagnostic webpage was showing that all was well
Did a firmware upgrade and rebooted and it worked. Over an hour lost. Then when I went back to my computer google would not allow voice searches. I enabled everything I could find, but it took numerous reboots to get it back. Then had to reboot all my Alexa devices.
Another 1/2 hour lost.
Is Mercury in retrograde?
Blame! I.R.K. is already causing me additional problems from afar. The universe is telling me to let the I.R.K. go.

Unblame! Hit the doc for my annual this morning.
I haven’t gained a ton of weight since I quit moving (bad hip, my husband has to put my right sock on my foot because I just can’t, that muscle, that upper, inner thigh muscle just hurts too bad; walking any length of time is a nightmare - I just gained two pounds in a little over a year). I eat a lot less because I’m not burning the calories, but still… (First appointment with the orthopedist next Wednesday.)
My blood pressure reading was the best at the doctor reading in fifteen years!
I can still get Xanax! (The doc wasn’t sure since I’m on medicare now. Even if I paid for it without insurance, he said they might not let me have it. He was reading over my chart for the year “you got your prescription filled on this date, this date, this date…” I admitted to stockpiling because maybe I wouldn’t be able to get it again. It’s not like I’m addicted to it, I use a quarter of a half milligram tablet when I do and I go days/weeks without even thinking about it. Mostly take it when we have a sick cat or I have paperwork to do.)
The blood draw went smoothly.
And after fasting since last night, my husband made breakfast when we got home. Potatoes, eggs and turkey sausage links.
So, thank you, goat, for the (so far) great day.

@tnhillbillygal We’re up to 3 or 4 inches of snow and they told eveyone to just stay home. I made waffles with strawberries, blueberries, and whipped cream and bacon for breakfast and have a crock pot of vegetable beef soup heating up. The first day of snow is kind of fun but I really want everyone to get the hell out of here tomorrow.
@sammydog01 We have over 9 inches here. The hubbie just went to town to get a new battery for our 4-wheeler so he can drag the kids around on innertubes. My mother had made a dinner for ladies from her church to eat this afternoon but since that got cancelled our household and my brother’s met up at her house to “help” her not have too much food laying around, lol. I hope to get some fun pictures of the family in the snow in a bit.

There was one toy I was having trouble finding this year. It was a roblox figure with some special code for an in game item. I had my family looking at every walmart they went to away from here. They were $6.88 at walmart but going for $20 on amazon and ebay.
This past week I had to go to another walmart to pick up stuffs for one of the kiddos and I decided to check just in case. Sure enough, there were 6 on the shelf, pretty as you please. I got two for my kids and was going to buy 2 more for reselling but I decided I couldn’t do it this time. I have done it a few times in the past but this one got to me, lol.
I did my milk sandwich shopping when the forecast was 2-4 inches of snow. We got 14. I wonder what’s in the freezer?

This entire car wreck stuff sucks. No idea what I am going to do to replace it as I don’t meet loan criteria. Despite having a very good credit score, meeting my current car loan payments on time every month, even when I had no income, that I am living below the poverty line is enough to keep me from getting a car loan to buy a cheap used car (they have undervalued what I have and over half is going to pay off the car note I have on it). No idea how I am going to solve this one.

The big aggravation is the continued undervaluing of my car by about $1000 and the car I want to buy they insist it is in good shape (and the motor is) except that it is missing all sorts of things like all the wheel well liners, part of the jack, some of the floor mats (yeah I know not a big deal but since they have some…), 14" rip in the floor carpet, broken door strap (some metal thing that keeps the door from opening too far, sticky (from heat and that won’t go away) steering wheel and dash, needs aligned, large plugs that keep water from kicking up into the back of the car (so probably mold there) and a bunch of other things… Total is nearly $1500. The place has it over priced - if they’d fix all that stuff then I guess one could argue it was sort of OK (but would be pretty much the highest end of the range). Not many choices here in my price range that also are 10 years or newer (credit union rule). And this one I want as the motor is good. And my rental, while I argued to get it extended, runs out Wednesday. I won’t have financing sorted out by then (small problem getting that even at someplace that already has financed my previous car due to this minor detail of currently living around $450-500/mo below the poverty line and so they want to freeze every penny I have in the bank to give me a loan. Umm then how will I pay for health insurance - no medicaid expansion in this state, car insurance, medical bills…) and won’t get the settlement by then either.

Most of the time when crap happens I manage to land on my feet, although sometimes just barely and then rather bruised… but this time I just don’t think it is going to happen. And the death of my cats is just icing on the cake.
I went to the movies tonight- saw The Mule. It was good. My ticket was only eight bucks. Cool- is it discount night? Nope, she sold me a senior ticket. I have very mixed feelings now.

Maybe I’ll get lucky and have an open brinks truck drive down the street and dump out used money. Then hopefully the reward for returning it will cover the cost of a used car.

Okay, Goat, you’ve got a load coming your way. Last week alone I had three doctor appts. plus two chiropractor sessions, and my car was in the body shop for three days, and I had to pay the deductible, and THEN I had a 40 minute MRI. Blame!

I tried to be nonchalant and decorate my house while she was showing it off. That probably gave it away especially when someone else got a hand crafted thing and I mentioned that I had something from the thing, and she asked if I made it. I said no and said that I’m sometimes crafty and trailed off like a goober. I don’t know why I was so embarrassed to admit I made her gift especially when she says, “I wish this wasn’t a secret Santa.”

I chose SNA because it is closer even if it did have shittier flights. Is the 50 minute commute a pipe dream for other team members flying in there because of traffic?
@mfladd Never go to LAX. Unless you need to be like a mile from the airport, go to aaaannnnnyyy of the other airports. SNA is the rich people airport so it’s nice and clean even though everyone is carrying a dog in their purse.
@mfladd LAX is located in the middle of this stretch, so yes, the 50 minutes could very well be a pipe dream.
John Wayne (SNA) tends to be higher in cost, but it’s sooooooo much calmer. Ontario (ONT) or Long Beach (LGB) are good options too.
BLAME Was supposed to leave around 11am, it is now 7:20am and I won’t get out the door until around 8pm for a nearly 15 hour drive. Guess I will be driving until late tonight. I am sleeping in my car (yeah finally got a nearly 9 year old one needs about $1500 worth of work but motor is OK so duct tape (Yup closed a bunch of huge holes with that so slush, rain, etc. doesn’t kick up inside, no idea what they are for, are 3" in diameter between the floor of the van and the ground in the rear by the hatch) so that will be motivation to get my ass in gear in the morning since I am headed north and it will be cold.

@tnhillbillygal @nKL Well got where I was going although I drove through about 600 miles of rain, including the driving rain at night. Discovered that the headlights need aligned or whatever that is called. They are aimed too far down pointing at the road too close to the car so can’t see very far ahead. And they are aimed to the left. Scary. Especially at night in the driving rain. But it didn’t break down. There was enough room to sleep in the back last night. It was only 36 so that wasn’t too bad.
BLAME - drove around 600 miles in the driving rain (unblame the other 400 weren’t in the rain or it was just a light drizzle), much of that at night, also in the clouds in the mountains in the driving rain
UNBLAME - at least it wasn’t in the snow or sleet
BLAME - my headlights need adjusted so they actually point far enough ahead and point straight ahead. It made driving more scary.
UNBLAME - I was reminded yet again how beautiful the mountains are and how much I miss them. The clouds were laced though the trees (it was raining). So much like an art photo in shades of gray and washed out pine green with layers of clouds at different altitudes.
BLAME driving through the clouds/fog sucks.

Some customer cancelled their order of a $300 item that was on clearance for $150. I just walked to the front of the store on a whim and saw it sitting there even though I had passed that spot twenty minutes earlier. I had been so bummed that I had missed out on it. I ended up buying it for $20. Luckily I had seen it right then because someone tried to purchase it online ten minutes later as I was checking out with it.

Unblame - the airnb I am staying in has a very young Mexican doctor staying here getting some training here before going back home and then probably working for doctors without borders. I asked her if she wanted to go with me and my mom driving around looking at christmas lights, to the christmas eve church service we were going to etc. She came and it was fun to watch her enjoy this rather than staying in this crappy dump, alone, on christmas eve.
Where mom used to live someone lined the entire 3/4 of a mile street on both sides with candles in a bag (been doing that for years) and some neighboring streets started doing that too. Plus almost every house had christmas lights/decorations outside.
She couldn’t believe all the houses decorated and wanted to know if we did this year round or just at christmas. It was like watching a little kid see this kind of stuff for the first time. Made mom and me happy that she had a nice time christmas eve.

Was just at a used computer/repair store to see how to fix my screen issues (well and also try to pick up something that will work as a charger for the leap pad platinum - by the way unblame for that as $5 later and I am set as soon as I can round up a plug thing to plug the cord into - think I have a spare so didn’t want to buy one) - I went in there thinking it is a cable issue - as in a loose cable (moving the lid affects it and the problem is temperature dependent - if the computer is physically too cold then I figure shrunk metal parts and lose the connection, warm it up, they expand and I am set as long as I am careful not to touch the lid once I have it up and running). Unblame that they agreed with me. They told me that it is likely either a lose screw or a partly broken ends of the video cable when apple put in a new motherboard under the tail end of my 3 year warranty (now more than 2 years beyond that).
Trouble is if it is partly broken ends problem rather than just not screwed in all the way and they mess with it then it might break the rest of the way. As I am leaving Monday (2 day drive) and they know they can’t get a cable in before that, then I’d be without a computer until likely the week after next. Which I can’t do because of the course I am teaching will have started (um well and my click face record here would get wrecked LOL). So I get to try to find a credible place to fix it/mess with it back home (which is much riskier and harder than where I am now - not going to apple as they told me their only solution is an $800 fix regardless of what is wrong, they wouldn’t speculate on what was wrong; and at this shop here I was told around $120 labor plus a cable if needed). So blame big time for that. A big enough blame that it is a 60% blame to unblame ratio. So a net blame.

Unblame, my friend’s divorce is final. Not the best deal he might have gotten, and other things in his life are still in question. But there is an Official Line in the Sand.
And Honorary Unblame to January’s goat candidates, because xkcd has pointed out that it was already 2019 for over half the world’s population as of 1:30 pm EST today. So technically speaking, it was January 1 for the world on average when the divorce kicked into effect.
BLAME BIG TIME. First it was the car being trashed by a commercial truck. NOW IT IS MY COMPUTER!!! I have a 13" computer that works flawlessly other than a monitor problem. Was at apple today. Video card checks out fine. He re-seats the cable for free (considering it is a mid 2013 macair I was very lucky so unblame for that). Said if that doesn’t work it is the video card even though it passed the check. A different apple store told me I’d have to replace the entire top half of the computer (eg screen and the entire case). They also said the video card passed.
So here I am thinking reseating the cable is working (well and he blew out cat hair from in there too that he said was sitting on the video card) and then… shit shit shit back to the same old problems.
After the car catastrophe I don’t have money to pay for which ever repair is the right one nor for a new or even used computer!!! BIG TIME BLAME since the only job I have at the moment is teaching online and I need the damn thing to work, can’t send it off for two weeks (what he said it would take) anyway even if I did have money.

@narfcake @therealjrn That would be me. But I didn’t put any lights up this yr. Put a wreath on the door tho… and some poinsettias in urns.
