You can tell people you worked for a company for a decade. That means you worked there for a 10 year period, nothing else.

@mike808 My mother in law bought a new grill that was not on sale on the 31st that I found out about when I was asked to go pick it up for her yesterday. Her 3 year old grill was bad. Never mind that the shell was in great shape. I could have put new grates on her current grill for like $30, and the burner bars get surface rust because they are steel exposed directly to fire, it doesn’t make them bad. But her grill was ruined in her view. It was like the anti-deal and I just had to keep my mouth shut.

@PocketBrain A mental count says I have 5, no, wait, 7 ways to grill right now. I can’t logically add another without maybe having to look for a backup wife. This one puts up with me fairly well, so I occasionally have to exercise restraint.

I think my mother in law’s handyman took care of it for her, so he probably has a backup grill.

According to Wikipedia, Kobo was purchased by Rakuten (an enormous Amazon-like international Corp based in Japan) about a decade ago. I haven’t heard that Rakuten is in any trouble.

Also, a couple of years ago Kobo/Rakuten partnered with Walmart to bring a digital books/audiobooks sales service to Walmart. This seems to be going ok, despite Amazon being the monster in this field. They are prob doing no worse than B&N (a guess, I have no data)

Kobo released their most recent upgraded e-reader device last Sept. Their e-book library offers more than 6 million titles.

@RiotDemon @sammydog01 The insides are messed up. But I’ve been meaning to replace it for awhile. It never has worked very good at flushing things down and it get dirty very fast because somebody in years prior heavily used comet on it and fucked up the bowl.

Did you research any toilets yet? Is it a guest room? What’s your budget?

@RiotDemon @sammydog01 I think I want a Champion IV because I poop like a champion. It’s in the front bathroom so I guess it’s the “guest” bath. My bathroom toilet in the master bath works for now. I can probably spend a couple-three hundred on it. The whole bath though, probably needs redone. It has a plastic tub and the vanity is janky. The tile floor is good though.

Don’t ever skimp on redoing bathrooms when you renovate. This was my first renovation and I was feeling poor after all the other $tuff I had to do and thought I could live with not redoing the baths.

Big mistake. Now I’m living here and just have to deal with them. I could move in over to a vacant I have, or at least use a bathroom over there, but it would suck in the rain and the snow. I guess I could shower & shit over there and just pee in a bucket or something here…

I’ll put it up on the list for after Tuesday. I’ve got a big day tomorrow working so…

@therealjrn I’ve sold plumbing stuff for over 6 years. People skimp left and right. Some of the shit people do is really scary.

The champion is fine. Kohler Highline or Cimmaron is fine.

Why do you not like your acrylic tub? I’m assuming it was installed wrong and it feels squishy?

Basically comes down to… Do you want to keep a tub in there or did you want to switch to a shower?

If you want to keep the tub you can try to fix it by cutting an access hole in the room behind the tub. It most likely would be a temporary fix though. Acrylic tubs usually fail because they are installed incorrectly. See the link for ways that you could attempt making it more solid.

@RiotDemon I think it has reached the end of useful life. I need to find somebody to put in a new tub and a new shower for the master and 2 toilets. And at least some new hardware for the vanities.

But it will have to wait until Wednesday before I can start looking. I’ve got a guy, I’m just waiting for him to finish up an out-of-town job. He’s going to be working on my vacant hopefully later this week putting in the vent hood, backsplash and disposal for the kitchen.

@ruouttaurmind Porter Cable and B+D, for sure. I seem to remember having to remove some minor plastic tab from one of the chargers (?) so everything played nice together.
Just as important (for me) was finding an adapter on eBay that allowed use of these new 20V Li-ion batteries on all my old B+D 18V NiCad tools

@medz Definitely not everything. It’s mostly the stuff they’re overstocked on and stuff that’s been sitting on the shelves for too long.

I got lucky, I guess, as I was searching for pumps under the Amazon Warehouse category and noticed it said I’d get an extra 20% off at checkout.

Wow, it’s worse than I thought. They cannot even ship those batteries to me because they require “special handling.” Whatever that means.

@cengland0 That’s the message about shipping I got as well, but thought it was due to a bulky item in my cart. After I moved the bulky item out and re-added the clorox wipes to my cart it looked like it would allow the shipment…very odd though. The clorox wipes I got on woot before were still cheaper, so I didn’t buy.

I wound up coming up with a pretty decent solution for a reasonable price. I ordered one of these Furhaven 44"x35"x4" replacement bed covers from Amz for $12. I had a 4" memory foam mattress topper in storage so I sliced up a 44x35 chunk and it fits perfectly inside the new cover. Super Belle the Wonder Dog now has a memory foam bed for less than the price of that budget Walmart polyfill bed.

@sammydog01 Darn it, I just got the Google Home Assistant 2-pack from Best Buy yesterday. I was already invested in the Amazon environment and had to do a lot of shuffling around all my devices in their appropriate rooms to support Google. Oh well, either works. This way, I can have Google displays and Echo dots behind them.

@cengland0 I got talked into buying a Lenovo home display and I’m not that fond of it. One thing, it loses the time when the wifi is off. That’s kind of stupid. The Google friendly folks like them though.

@therealjrn I did a comparison to Harbor Freight for a similar tool. This one is less than 1/2 the cost. So, ya, it’s a bargain.

@ruouttaurmind I think the regular price is around $20. I bought one a couple of months ago to cut power outlet holes in my Ikea TV stand, and it did a better job of cutting than I did keeping it straight.

@ruouttaurmind can’t speak to hyper tough power tools specifically, but this type of saw is especially handy for undercutting doorjambs, cutting holes in drywall for outlet boxes, and removing casts. It’s also pretty good with pvc pipe although there are easier ways to cut that. The one I have is cordless but they all work pretty much the same.

For the price the first time you have to undercut a trim piece or cut an access hole you will be glad you had it. There are certain cuts that this handles very easily that would be much more difficult with any other form of cutter. Of course, the converse is also true.

@djslack I agree completely. I have had the Dremel corded version for a few years. Absolutely priceless for removing gunked up gaskets from intake manifolds and the like, removing 30 year old vinyl flooring, sanding tight into corners, flush-cutting wood, plastic, metal, etc… I’ve used it for a bunch of stuff.
