The birth of deals.meh.....(kinda)
20I am at a point where I am always looking for really good deals. I started thinking how much I miss deals.woot because every once in awhile I would find something I needed at a great price that someone posted. And I know many of you here are fantastic at finding deals.
So let this be the beginning of our own private version where if you find a good deal post it here. So it does not become cluttered we can start new threads for timeliness and length as needed (every few days, a week, a year if this thread flames out, we shall see).
Lets try to keep chatter and gifs (notice I did my best) to a minimum to keep it clean for users. Maybe we will even pull in some more of the lurkers with this.
The rules are simple: Make it a good deal so people don’t come back and flay you for posting it. Star deals you like based on the deal not user popularity or lack thereof (trying to save my own ass there). Maybe if it works meh will even give the best deal hunter of the month (based on deal popularity) a badge?
(and don’t post me links if this has been tried before here - I don’t care)
Now let it begin…

Example: I needed a beach tent for the kids. Woot actually has a good deal on one - two days left or until sold out.
Wenzel Fairweather Cabana

but I should have put the deal price next to product name.

BTW nice thread icon.
@mfladd I prefer the ‘instant’ setup of the Lightspeed, but it’s twice the money. I got mine as a gift from MIL; it’s my favorite gift ever from her

A few more hours left on their 40% off birthday sale:
TeeTurtle.com
Fun fact: It was originally intended as an outlet for Ramy’s unprinted shirt.woot designs while he continued on his education. A year later, between med school, shirt.woot derbies, and a side business, two of them had to go.
(Their actual birthday is 2/22/12, one day after shirt.woot announced they were switching over to Anvil.)
@narfcake must have killed the site cause it just keeps having a spinning turtle go round and round no matter what i do
@Cerridwyn Try a different browser? I got in using Chrome.
Edit: And Firefox.
@narfcake Chrome worked. In for four. Why did I do that? Are they here yet?
@narfcake i agree with the spinning turtle. every time you browse anywhere in the site you get it… plus the discount prices are more than the general woot prices, so no thanks.
@narfcake you are a bad influence!
@OldCatLady Sorry!
@mikibell Also sorry!
@cs85b03 Shirt.woot definitely has the bargain end covered, which is why the majority of my shirts still come from there. That said, DTG is still only good, not great, and it can get annoying when I’m doing all the QC, not them. Dealing with woot’s outsourced CS is an annoying hit-and-miss too.
TT has also licensed a lot of properties too, which costs $$.
@narfcake Last shirts I got from shirt.woot - 8 in one order - were all misaligned badly. Returned them all, got new ones, and will likely not be ordering from there again after that CS/QA debacle. Just got the new ones last week, at least they don’t suck this time.
@AiliaBlue I hear ya. Such experiences are not “isolated” by any means. Good that CS did come through, but not every customer goes through that and simply chalks up the lack of QC to “cheap shirt; won’t buy again.” Alas, it’s only one of the reasons why shirt.woot is but a shadow of itself nowadays.
https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=shirt.woot
5 years ago, a “slow sale” was a shirt that sold less than 1,500 on its debut day. Indeed, back in reckoning #237, last place “only” cleared 1,440 on its debut day.
These days, selling over 250 is considered a “good sale”.
@narfcake I think part of that can also be blamed on the fact there’s easily a dozen sites that do similar clever nerdy tshirts these days, and shirt.woot never bothered to differentiate itself in any meaningfully good way.
@AiliaBlue Increased competition is definitely among the reasons. Shirt.woot did admit to one specialty, though:
Of course, that specialty was because of their aforementioned volume artist.
Along the way, the boat was also missed when it came to social media too; “share it to win” helped several other daily shirt sites build up their audience.
I touched on some other aspects a few years back. Except for the blanks situation, not much else has helped to increase the customer base back.
http://shirt.woot.com/forums/viewpost.aspx?postid=5467236
Great idea, @mfladd! Would be even better if we could delete expired deals. Perhaps the powers will come up with something . . .
@KDemo possibilities do exist.
1 day left on 14 Star Wars games (Steam keys) for $14.
https://www.humblebundle.com/star-wars-3-bundle
@2many2no I bought the four Star Wars games for a dollar. I’m sure those were the best ones.
So this is like Slickdeals or Fatwallet? Only, perhaps, without the 90% of the “deals” which are self promotion of crap?
@KwadGuy
Let’s hope.
@KwadGuy That was the one big aspect that led to the downfall of deals.woot.
Without good moderation team behind it here, though, ultimately such would become the issue here too. Some “deal” spammers have posted here in the forums from time to time already.
@KwadGuy So, SD or FW “me too”?
Except this single thread view doesn’t scale. And a CCC deal feed just shills for Amazon. So many other sites out there, and any “deal” with no qualifiers is just too vague.
A deal on Lambos isnt the same as free kindle books with 100+ reviews averaging 4 stars. But both are “deals”. You probably wind up with a site that looks a lot like SD or FW in the end. Not that that is good or bad, just an observation. And there is the siren song of the echo chamber and the choir to avoid.
@mike808
This thread isn’t SD or DN or FW. People who want that sort of site can go to those.
This is a friendly thread among friends, or so I believe is the intent. Just a few people who hang out on Meh sharing finds.
If the thread gets spammed w junk, perhaps we can just quit doing it, or find a way to fix it. We’re a small enough group to talk problems through personally.
I wouldn’t really want it to scale, unless it became a full Mediocre project with mods and the like.
@mfladd
Can I suggest a “no-referral-links” “policy” for this thread?
(My sympathies, @thumperchick)
Or perhaps you could think up a special “in-group” oddball name for the topic, in order to confuse spammers and assholes.
@f00l I like that one. Maybe one we figure out what works for this we can post rules like this super clear in the future.
@f00l Yeah, I think that is good. But I don’t if we will need it since no one is posting deals. Down below they are just jib jabbering over tech fuko deals, but not posting anything. pfft.

Anyone see a great price on LG Tone bluetooth headsets, i think several persons might be interested, me included, so pls post here!
@f00l
What would be considered a great price? And which model?
@PlacidPenguin
There are a bunch of models A great price might be something significantly below Amazon’s usual price for that model per camelcamelcamel.com
@f00l I have seen the various LG Tone models for various prices at sams club but I haven’t looked lately… I did see this online:
https://www.samsclub.com/sams/the-lg-tone-pro-760-bluetooth-wireless/prod20120216.ip
LG tone pro for $30 starting on Feb 23.
So if you have one near check they tend to put them on sale randomly… or just do the online 30 deal if the pro is the model you are after.
I need to grab supplies tomorrow I will update if I see the prices.
So each day I will bring a couple of top price drops from CamelCamelCamel.com (I fucking love them). Will you like them - probably not. Will I care - probably not, actually nope.

After being right and properly scolded by @mfladd, I scoured the interwebs to find a contribution worthy of this thread. It’s not inexpensive, but it’s a heck of a value…
From xyzprinting.com: Purchase 12 rolls of ABS or PLA filament (color choice is ok, but you can’t mix ABS with PLA) and get a free DaVinci 1.0 Blue 3D printer.
The printer has some pretty decent specs. Multi-filament capable, fully enclosed print area, heated print bed, 8"x8"x8" print volume… all-in it’s a great first printer, and even a decent upgrade for someone who started with a basic printer and is looking for an upgrade.
I turned my brother onto this deal last week, and his printer arrived Friday. He set it up and got it rolling over the weekend, and I have to say, I’m duly impressed. Compared to my $1200 FlashForge Creator Pro, his DaVinci provides similar results, and might be just a wee bit faster.
His total cost, including shipping for the whole ball of wax was $407.
@ruouttaurmind Ha! Thank you.
At PepBoys.com: Use discount code FOUND25 and get 25% off most parts and accessories. If there’s a store near you, pay online, pick up in store for free shipping. If not, free shipping with >$50 purchase.
I’ve found Pep Boys prices range from ridiculous, to better than Amazon (for identical merchandise). An extra 25% off? That much better!

Buffalo Tools 1000-Pound Furniture Dolly $19.49/PS
4.5 with 146 reviews
(I just bought one)
@mfladd So how do I get my 1000 pound furniture onto that dolly?
@Barney 1st I would never put 1000lbs on this. A dresser, yes. But to answer your question, get 4 friends. Trust me, they will appreciate the dolly.
@mfladd I used 2 of these to move my new 980lb safe info the house last month. Two of them were barely up to the task.

Sale price $338.10. Free Shipping. Great deal!
We use this at our food co-op. Beats a crummy old dolly any day of the week. Works real good if you don’t have 4 friends.
@Barney Not if you don’t have $339. I clicked on your username by mistake. I learned a hilarious meh fact about you…lol.
@mfladd
That @Barney has ordered less items than me, or that @Barney has dabbled in self-star-ing?
@mfladd It’s better than killing your 4 friends with that dolly.
Why are you laughing at me?
@Barney psst… 900lb capacity ones are around $90 at sams club (and I presume costco as well).
@thismyusername Those trucks are very heavy and that makes them awkward to use for the weak of body. However, if you want to provide the labor for me, I will get you one of these to use.
@mfladd Tell me why you are laughing about me and I will tell you about a funny story when I first saw you at Deals.
@Barney you pay for the labor with the $250 you saved
@thismyusername If I’m paying for the labor, they can bring their own hand truck and it will save me the cost of the one at Sam’s.
@Barney
I may be horrible at reading between the lines and even reading what people mean based on what they type, but @thismyusername seems to be trying to avoid the question.
@PlacidPenguin There are times that I have trouble reading between the lines.
@PlacidPenguin what question?
@thismyusername
The one from @Barney over here.
@PlacidPenguin oh you have me confused with your alternate account, @mfladd
@Barney I concede the sams/costco one is heavier, when I looked at the amazon link I looked at the shipping weight of 55 lbs and said… why pay $200 too much… after re-looking 4.5lbs is indeed super light, and while my frugal self wouldn’t pay that, I can indeed see that it is a good deal for the weight to load capacity.
@thismyusername
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I will neither confirm nor deny those allegations at the present time.
@thismyusername Hmm, the one we use at food co-op weighs more than 4.5lbs. I wonder if that is a typo. But you are right, it’s a pretty expensive deal.
@mfladd The Great created this thread on Sunday.
Two Days Later …
@mfladd The Luser posted the following in the Feb 2017 Blame Thread (somewhat edited to make it less whiny)
@mfladd is here put on notice that he is an idiot as well as being perpetually miserable.
@mfladd is hereby sentenced to 1 hour of non-stop Swedish Pop Music as a penance.
@mfladd should fucking chill (while listening to Swedish Pop Music) and let the Deals.Meh thread find its own level. I personally want mostly deals that are special to Mehmbers, not just stuff people hunt down, copy and paste, in order to meet some lame quota.
@mfladd is risking more and longer exposure to Swedish Pop Music if he doesn’t shape up. And if the therapy fails, the Swedish Pop Music will be limited to those tracks released during the 1980’s.
PS
@mfladd:
Your life sux.
We noticed.
Our lives also suck.
So hand out some fucking hankies already. I bet there are some hankie deals out there …

@KittySprinkles
I U.
@mfladd is not being whiny when he complains about how his attempt at starting a deals.meh is working or rather how it’s not. Very few are participating and those of us, that are here, are being smart asses.
@mfladd Don’t take this personally, but there are a lot of “rugged individualists” here. We don’t seem to want to color in the lines and that’s too bad, because I think you have a very good idea in trying to do this. But as it’s been said before, trying to get us to do something that someone wants done is like herding cats.
Then again, think back to deals.woot. Really, there were just a handful of deal.woot people who were posting really good deals (the rest were somewhere between okay and meh, not counting the shills). Anyway, these were the people who you could always count on. We don’t seem to have that here yet. And I do mean yet. Yes, I think there’s hope, but it just may take some time.
I admire you for attempting to do this. May I suggest that you start another deals.meh thread? This one is getting kind of non-deal wordy. Don’t give up on us. I will try to help you as much as I can. I’m hoping that there are others who will help.
@Barney
@mfladd
I’ve got my own things to do.
@Barney Well, get’m done. Thanks for the support. Perhaps we will try again in the future.
@mfladd
@Barney
@mfladd
I also admire you, @mfladd for starting this thread and others threads. You work really hard at the community stuff, and I admire and appreciate that. (@mfladd, are you listening here? Really listening?)
And I think the Deals.Meh thread is a great idea. It may take a while for us to figure out exactly how to work it.
As for participation being low, it’s low all over the site. And not just on this site, either. Most of us who have not had recent serious loss or emotional trauma in our personal lives recently, are also not terribly cheerful right now, and there are plenty of reasons for it that we can all see.
I suspect a part of low participation on the site right now is the natural wax and wane of things, about which one take would be a “let’s stick around, make things good, and see how it all works out” attitude. We could throw in the towel, but what’s the point of that, if we like hanging out here? And juicing it up, if the cause were just the natural ebb and flow, would likely be a slow process.
the following is intended to be entirely non-partisan
And there are plenty of other things obviously going on in our shared public world that leave a lot of us quite freaked out or scared or angry or despondent. I know of a number of relationships and active communities that have suffered terribly once the election process got nasty, and a lot of the turmoil was not just “pro- vs anti- the new President” anger and pain either. The recent campaign seemed to cause strong senses of betrayal and a feeling that the universe has gone mad in almost everyone.
There are a lot of friendships and relationships on hold right now, people aren’t ready to come back yet. I personally know of people who have reached out, and who are hoping that personal connections can be repaired - and many of these torn friendships are among people who agree politically! Pain or bitterness or the memory of anger or loss or shock is still too strong, perhaps. And there are many communities just barely treading water for the same reasons. And many people whose personal relationships did not suffer over the past year or so are still demoralized and scared. It’s kinda worldwide. Not my fav moment in history, shall we say?
So regarding these public possible reasons, or whatever other reasons there may be for low participation, we can quit, or barely participate, or hang in more actively. I dunno what will happen, neither does anyone else. I really really appreciate what both of you put in here.
Furthermore <@mfladd, heads up here>
I am aware of the appearance of suffering serious personal disruption and pain and loss on a personal level for you, in addition to what’s going on in the wide world. And I fucking hurt over it on your behalf, OK, @mfladd? And you appear not to want sympathy, or not overt sympathy. OK fine. And if you have depression, all the jollying along in the world will not make it simply go away. It doesn’t work like that, does it? And in spite of whatever losses and pain, since you have responsibilities, you have to keep going. Keep dragging yourself thru stuff when, for all I know, you just wanna watch tv, or eat chips, or sleep, or look at pron. And if that is sorta what’s going on, perhaps nothing seems to help much in a real way, except working with and having fun with your kids.
Please note that I am not asking questions here. Not explicitly, not implicitly. No questions. No answers. Nope.
Because those facts - whatever facts are behind all this, assuming I didn’t just imagine the whole thing - only matters here if you (@mfladd) want it to and want to go there. Otherwise those facts don’t matter, end of story. It
belongs to you.
And this is not to say that you (@mfladd) don’t matter.
Cause you do. And I think or hope you know that. You can matter just fine and be a great person who is appreciated without adding in a buncha damned facts if that’s what works for you.
So you appear to be dragging yourself thru life, even tho at least here, you make enormous gestures to assist everyone else. But you don’t appear to want sympathy, you shove it away. Cool. Some people handle stuff that way. No prob. You appear to just enjoy the interaction, and the teasing and humor. OK cool. You appear only to feel better for moments, and then it all crashes down into grayness or something again. Cool.
And I could be 1000% flat wrong. But that’s what it looks like from my keyboard.
So, @mfladd, assuming that this is not your favorite part of your life ever, I get that. I don’t have much to offer under the circumstances, I offer what I have. And I am obviously a lifelong absolute social disaster, so we know how that will work out.
Or assuming I’m completely wrong about all of this, OK, I’m also a lifelong well-known and provable idiot, what else is new? And i do deeply apologize for any presumption. I hate doing that.
And assuming I’m three ways from wrong and haven’t got any of it yet and never will, well, I apologize for that also.
So you posted over in the blame thread how much you hate your life and how this thread is pointless, and perhaps it was all just a humorous thing I misunderstood, or a momentary something or other and then done.
I prob misunderstood. Again, I apologize.
It looked kinda like not your best night ever in your life. But no sympathy desired, or so it seems. So I attempted to tease you about it. If that came off badly, again I apologize. I’m not good at so very many things. And I don’t mean that as just a cheap excuse for not doing better.
My apologies. Sincerely.
Anyway, low participation or whatever: it’s my personal belief that that’s the way of the world right now. And it’s hitting all of us. If we also have other dark or difficult stuff in our lives, all of that just mixes together and makes it all darker. I just try to keep going. Mostly try to go forward. Once in a while i actually do go forward, much to my astonishment.
@mfladd, whatever mess your life is or is not in right now:
I promise you have not fucked up your life any worse than many others, and prob way less. Quite likely you have been consistently kinder, more generous, more sane, more productive, more successful, more decent, and more responsible than me, year after year. There’s plenty of darkness out there. Some of us get into states of mind where that’s all we can see for a while. If it’s true you’ve had a big loss or major life or emotional disturbance, it just takes damned time. And that’s not fair of the universe to design it that way, to design us that way.
WTF! Something really difficult happens, and then we get to drag ourselves thru endless bleaklessness and pointlessness till we recover? As if the original trauma wasn’t enough? Something really not great happened, and so then we get to be punished by more suffering? Day after day of nothingness and dragging oneself down some road that seems to lead nowhere? And that’s how our species is designed, biologically. Ain’t it sweet?
And then, slowly, way way too slowly, most of us get to where we can see other possibilities. Most of us. I hope all of us. And then, someday, many years later, we can no longer remember quite how it felt, being in all that darkness or grayness. Somehow we got thru. Somehow other good things came. Somehow we adapted and got stronger.
Enough philosophy. Or too much. Apologies again.
So I think the forums will come back. And I think we should just be nice to each other and have fun in the meantime. Or maybe they won’t. And I think we should have fun in the meantime.
And I think I am likely full of shit. Completely, utterly, full of shit.
I’m happy to leave you alone if that would be better. I thought if I tormented you for long enough, in completely stupid ways, the day would come when you would “get it” and get a sense of possibilties - again - and not have the emptiness close right back in again. (Not because of anything I did. Please. It doesn’t work like that.)
And I am full of shit.
And I still think you need a whole lot of Swedish Pop Music.
And I still think that huge portions of the universe don’t give a damn. But some parts of the universe are not quite that cold.
And I am full of shit. And you need some Swedish Pop Music. Why? Because it’s stupid and funny.
And I am full of shit. And I apologize.
@f00l OMG…I feel bad you had to type all that. It’s all good - no need to apologize. For what? I am ok, I just find it therapeutic to post what I do here sometimes - my bad if it comes off macabre, or you worry.
As @Barney said, trying to keep people on track here is like herding cats. That’s what I like about the place, and I am a huge offender of it at times. Not so much recently, but in the past. We will try again another time. It’s weird around here right now.
And @f00l thank you for what you do here. You are like a strange glue that is everywhere with stars and replies. I would find it even weirder if you weren’t you.
@mfladd
Swedish Pop Music.
That’s either your penance, your reward, or your therapy.
Just keep playing it until the universe decides to stop fucking with us.
Can’t hurt that much, can it?
(Your ears are just a small part of your entire being. Having your ears fall off is survivable. Promise.)
@f00l Fine. But it will be Swedish House Mafia. You and all your old music - stop living like the crypt keeper and catch up with the times.
@mfladd
No no no. My playlist for your betterment wasn’t picked because its old. And the quality stuff will just make you worse in your illness. Even a little tiny bit of quality will damage you further.
My playlist for your mental health and being was picked because that music is so bad that when you play it nonstop it causes so much pain that eventually you can no longer feel pain anymore. Or feel anything.
If you want to heal yourself, you must only play and listen to music that will make any healthy American binge-hurl and want to die.
No cheating w good stuff. As long as your still possess aesthetic sensibilities, you can never be reborn as a truly post-truth being for the coming glorious new age of mankind.
Find the Swedish music that causes your to go into spasms of horror. And then keep going in that direction.
Someday, post-truth nirvana will be yours.
@mfladd, @Barney, @f00l, I was not around when deals.woot got it’s start. I arrived there just before the major decline, and devolution into Chinese spammers. But I’m going to wager Rome was not built in a day? I’m sure it took more than 2 days to spark the magic that became deals.woot?
A couple challenges here with @mfladd’s effort which deals.woot didn’t face:
As you know, the dronies went through a similar challenge with what became the drone.horse forum. We had a couple excruciatingly long threads here in the main forum. In my frustration, I created dronebuilder.org and established a more friendly forum format. Very shortly thereafter, the good folks at Mediocre created drone.horse. Then, with some community input, they conceded to some formatting changes in the general format.
The prologue of it all… after a bit more than a year, I, like you, threw in the towel and recognized I was on a dead-end train. I declared the drone.horse forum “deader than disco”. A couple months later Mediocre pulled the plug.
There are a few of us here that appreciate what you’re after. I believe there would be more if the format was more friendly, but it is what it is. One of the advantages to the deals.woot layout was the ability for others to weigh in on the posted deals without weighing down the presentation of the overall forum, as well as specifying expiration dates on deals, and a (before the train wreck) moderated environment. In this, a single-thread format, that isn’t the case. The ‘peanut gallery chatter’ isn’t helpful to the overall goal, and there’s no way to remove or demote expired deals.
I encourage you to continue to contribute, to have patience and let’s see where it goes. Many of us don’t have the luxury of a great amount of time to scour the interwebs for deals, but when we do find a particularly interesting bargain, will come and stick it here. Maybe it’ll spark. Maybe it’ll settle in for a slow burn. Let’s find out?
@f00l Ok…I choose September.
Btw, who picks September for an artist name?
@ruouttaurmind Thank you We will try again soon. Sorry, for drone.horse.
@ruouttaurmind @mfladd
OK. I’m starting to see a consensus that for something like this to work, we need a better UI.
Obviously though, the current format works nicely for small conversations and individual comments.
For something like deals.meh, the user experience design would need some changes.
I’m not expecting Meh to suddenly give the site a complete overhaul (especially without warning), but we could try to approach it slowly (and provide feedback along the way).
@Deshaun - Is there any way you could help (hopefully soon) with something like this?
The groundwork has been provided by @Shawn and the others, but as the user experience designer, this clearly falls into your domain.
@ruouttaurmind
That’s damned rational and helpful.
Are you sure you wanna be that way? Can get one into troub ya know.
Thx : )
@mfladd
You need a variety of songs that make you wanna hurl to even imagine listening to them.
And then play it loud. In. your ears. So you can hear.
After a while your brain will melt. After that you’ll start feeling better.
@f00l One of the advantages of being an emotional void is my ability to be rational in nearly every circumstance.
@ruouttaurmind
Not in every “rational” circumstance I can think of. But you did say “nearly”. So you get points for precision
And I respect someone who carefully maintains a civilized and well-tended local emotional void.

@f00l White Christmas!
@LaVikinga
I’m gonna add this here whatever @mfladd says- Amazon has a coupon BIGTHANKS today only for $8.62 off of a $50 purchase because of some respectability mumbo jumbo or other.
Just make sure the products are actually sold by amazon. I was getting frustrated breaking orders into smaller orders (since it said the whole order must ship together) because I assumed anything eligible for prime shipping would count, but it doesn’t.
@sammydog01 @PantHeist
There are some comic books I wanna get from Amazon.
I just need to check how much money ASIDE from sales tax I would save (because it might be cheaper to get them from different sellers).
@PlacidPenguin We will have to talk comics sometime.
@mfladd
You’ve made your choice in comics clear. I’ve never read those comics.
@PlacidPenguin yeah, I don’t do Archie.
@mfladd
Shudder
I have to disinfect my phone now for displaying that sentence of yours.
@PantHeist I tried to order laundry soap but it was Prime pantry so there was shipping. I have a Prime pantry credit but this credit removed it. So I ordered my soap from Target.
/giphy aint no one got time
@sammydog01 oooo…that’s a good one. Now if I could just come up with $41.38.
If you live in the southeast, Publix grocery stores have Pepperidge Farm cookies buy one get one free.
/image Pepperidge Farm Sausalito
Sorry it’s not an online deal, but yay for delicious cookies.
@RiotDemon Publix just took over our local chain. They aren’t open yet but I will watch for cookies sales when they do.
@RiotDemon
/giphy pepperidge farm remembers
huh. This gif is in no way applicable, and yet I’m leaving it here.
@sammydog01 Their Buy one/Get One sales really pay off especially if you add in manufacturers’ coupons. If you don’t mind your grocery purchasing being tracked by Big Grocery, sign up for their digital coupons. They’re easy to load and all you have to do is type your phone number into the POS magic machine as you’re checking out (I know the little credit card machine has a name, but I’m having another blonde moment).
@LaVikinga it’s simply a credit card machine or a credit card terminal.
I love Publix. So clean. Their produce costs a little more than other places, but I find it doesn’t rot as fast, or it has superior flavor. I don’t know how many times I’ve bought fruit somewhere else, (Aldi’s, or a produce stand maybe) and it just tastes bland, or it never ripens properly.
@RiotDemon Their subs, and birthday cakes are pretty darned good, too. It’s my birthday today and it was all I could do NOT to have the family order one for me. Trying to get back down to my fighting weight, and flour, sugar, etc., are the very devil. Like a rat on crack. Once I start eating that crap, I can’t stop.
@LaVikinga yes, it’s a given around here that their subs are the best. People that go to subway and spend $5 for a sub are crazy when they can spend $1 more for something much tastier and filling.
Also, their chicken tenders. Omg.
@LaVikinga

@sammydog01 You are to be congratulated! Every week the brand name BOGO section of their flyer is required reading. I’m edging into hoarder territory on trash bags, toilet paper and kitty litter.
@LaVikinga
Is it your birthday?
Happy Day then!

@f00l @sammydog01 @RiotDemon
Thanks, you guys! It’s been a day! I’m going to request a do-over day soon!
Newegg, through the “DJI Official Store” is offering the DJI Phantom 4 for $849.99 after promo code PHTN4DJI50. Free shipping and (in most cases) no sales tax.
This appears to be new, not refurbished.
Today only (Wednesday, 02/22/2017), Best Buy is offering AVG Ultimate anti-virus and security protection for unlimited devices (all your Windows, Mac and Android devices) for $19.99. This link goes to the hard copy version, but the digital download is available for the same price.
Twenty bucks, all your gadgets (unfortunately, no iOS devices are supported, but Macs are). Not a bad deal for one year piece of mind.
@ruouttaurmind
Honestly never understood why Android would need a virus protector.
Even if someone installs an app from a shady website (or even one like APK Mirror), Google Play Services has a verify apps scanner which constantly checks the apps on a device and will remove extremely harmful ones automatically or if it’s a lower level danger, just give you a prompt to remove it.
@PlacidPenguin Android gives you that sweet option to install from “Unknown Sources”. This opens the unchecked potential for spyware, malware, etc.
I sort of feel the same way about PC virus protection, but way too many people are too willing to click the “Ok” button without understanding or even reading what they’re permitting. Careful computing goes a long way towards security.
@ruouttaurmind
True, but in 2012 Android introduced Verify Apps which combats shady apps.
It works on all devices from Gingerbread and up, which pretty much covers everyone.
Android distribution which only shows APIs with .1%+ of devices which actively use Google services.
And I’m not sorry for saying this, but if someone downloads an app from a random site which has horrible grammar and is a cracked version of an app, they will get absolutely no sympathy from me whatsoever.
Mixed feelings about the ‘allow unknown sources’ option.
So true.
@PlacidPenguin Depends on your line of work. I run into some shit that’s a little more complicated to stop than that. Even so, using freeware from f-droid has worked for me.
@PantHeist
Then again, the average Android user (keep in mind that ~87% of the smartphone market is Android) probably isn’t running into what you’re dealing with.
@PlacidPenguin True. I had no idea Android had that much of the market, crazy.
@PantHeist
Correction. 81.7% according to one firm.
@PlacidPenguin About that ‘random site which has horrible grammar’- an amazing number of people don’t know good grammar or spelling from bad. I always think it’s the law of the jungle, or Revenge of the English Teachers. If they didn’t pay attention in high school, they’ll pay later in life.
@OldCatLady
I’m not longer sure of this. Once upon a time…
But now I suspect the higher social standards of language use will devolve in a manner similar to “facts”.
Via eBay power seller geekdeal, get a certified refurb Microsoft XBox One 500GB “Matte Black Special Edition” (??) console and one controller for $159.99, no sales tax and free shipping.
FYI, Best Buy has the gloss black edition for $179.99, but Best Buy charges sales tax.
100GB Google Drive Storage Free for 2 yrs.
my chromebook wasn’t eligible since it is a meh refurb. openbox, refurbs, etc. aren’t eligible - Google will check your system (resistance is futile!).
https://www.google.com/intl/en/chromebook/offers/?utm_source=filesapp&utm_medium=banner&utm_campaign=gsg
Let me know if it works for you.
@mfladd
Which chromebook did you get? I got the Toshiba 2 and the Google Drive storage bump worked for me. Perhaps no one had tried to activate it on mine.
@f00l I have a toshiba also. Not sure which one. Enjoy the two years.
It would have been nice for me. My storage is almost all used up.
@f00l You must redeem your offers within 180 days after the first account was added to your Chromebook. If you don’t claim the offers within this time limit, they expire.
https://slickdeals.net/f/9803951-audible-first-in-a-series-sale-starting-4-95?src=catpagev2
For members only. I’m not a member. Boo.
Requires active Audible subscription. Prime subscribers qualify to purchase Audible Daily Deal, but unfortunately not this sale.
@ruouttaurmind I just said that. OK maybe not as well.
@ruouttaurmind
Anyone who wants to open an audible account (just use your amazon account) is eligible to purchase the Daily Deal as well as many other sales. Nothing to do with Prime.
For some of the sales - I suppose this one - you have to have an audible subscription. There are always deals for starter subscriptions (google), and the subscriptions can be cancelled at any time if you are good about remembering that stuff.
@f00l But that costs money! I figure I can buy several deals of the day for less than the monthly fee. Plus I keep an eye out for Audible versions of Kindle daily deals I bought back when they were good.
@sammydog01
Understand.
Not a bargain, but a solid price if you’re looking for a 27" FHD monitor from a name-brand maker.
Staples.com is offering the Samsung S27E310 FHD LED monitor for $149.99 with free ship-to-home. This is factory fresh, not a refurb. 1 year Samsung warranty, or add a 2 year extended warranty for $10.
@ruouttaurmind Damn they’re getting cheap … in more ways than just the price tag.
I remember when most name brand monitors came with 3 year warranties.
@narfcake
You don;t have to be very old to remember that either.
@f00l
Are you calling @narfcake old?
@PlacidPenguin Well, @f00l is right …
@narfcake
Only 3 people on this site are old. @oldcatlady, @f00l, and the goatapus (goatapus?) (due to his tweet based on what his brother did).
(P.s check your email.)
@narfcake
@PlacidPenguin
Yes, in the sense that I’m calling 10-year-olds old.
@f00l
@narfcake is 10 years old?
Explains a lot.
Fly to Europe via Norwegian Air from the U.S. for $65. if you catch the deal now. If you miss it, the fares will be $99. each way. http://www.cntraveler.com/story/norwegian-air-announces-new-routes-from-us-to-europe-with-fares-from-65 via @CNTraveler

Wow I need to invent a reason to go.
@OldCatLady meanwhile when I search the flight is $1200. What am I missing…
Ehh… I guess it’s because it’s flights out of northern NY.
West coasters can get flights on Wow Airlines for cheap as well.
@RiotDemon Alternate airports, and the new planes. The article is eye-opening. I’d even consider flying into Edinburgh then catching a train somewhere.
@OldCatLady I just got $70 one way to london from SFO wia wow airlines. after all the garbage fees it is $286 for two people with luggage.
@connorbush And $900 a seat to return?
@OldCatLady Scotland is awesomely gorgeous in the summer! Maybe not so much right now, but late spring and summer is superior.
@connorbush
@ruouttaurmind
Do you wish to return? Or would you just rather just stay over there?
@ruouttaurmind going from london to newark vis credit card points on India Airways. Then, after a week or so, from newark to los angeles business class virgin america points, cheaper than normal class, to los angeles.

Gabba Goods Bluetooth Eye Mask Headset. Nope, gotta go to that MorningSave place to get Bluetooth Eye. As a Kickstarter and a Very Mediocre Person, I feel cheated.

@ruouttaurmind Since you asked:

Oh Mighty Gods of Bluetooth, is there anything you can’t do?

Funny you should ask:

Kurosawa made a kind of version of King Lear set in 16th century Japan, released in the US in 1985 I think. Simply gorgeous and astonishing. This was Kurosawa’s final epic film.
Amazon Digital Video has this in HD for $5.99 plus tax right now. I think this film is also on at a good price at VUDU. If you like Kurosawa, not to be missed.

Shun Premier 6" Chef’s Knife $119.00 at Amazon.
Only a few left. They had the 8" at a reduced price earlier, but those went back up.
I think this is one of Shun’s best line of knives?
-Handcrafted all-purpose knife that has many uses around the kitchen
-Features layered Damascus steel with a striking, hand-hammered finish (known as ‘Tsuchime’ in Japanese)
-Hand-hammered finish reduces drag when cutting, keeping foods from sticking to the knife blade; Premium pakkawood handle nestles comfortably into the curves of the palm and allows for a variety of comfortable and secure grips
-Due to the handcrafted nature of this knife, blade length can vary from 6-1/4-inch to 6-1/2-inch
-Dishwasher safe; hand washing and air drying recommended; limited lifetime warranty
Wooden handle. I wouldn’t put this in a dishwasher, but I guess you wouldn’t destroy it if you did.
These are gorgeous.

Amazon has Planet Earth II HD (digital download or streaming) (now airing) at a discounted price of $17.99 for the season. The unaired episodes will be available on Amazon after they have aired.
The first episode, “Islands”, is free.
I think VUDU, the Itunes store, and possibly Google Play are matching the pricing. No idea how long this special price will last.
This is standard HD, AFAIK. Those who want higher res will have to wait for physical media, I guess.

I’ll forgive you eventually.

At this point, the forum format, along with miscellaneous chatter (I’m just as guilty as others) has grown the length of the posting to an undesirable length.
@mfladd, what would you think about a new post on the first day of each month, or beginning each Sunday night/Monday morning?
This, along with another appeal to keep the chatter and GIFS to a minimum may help the overall success?
@ruouttaurmind
Vote Yes.
Start a new thread Wed. March 1. Or wait till Sunday and do a weekly one or something.
But link to the prev thread, to make it easy to find stuff, if someone wants to.
OTOH, people could just paginate their Meh threads…
@f00l Even with pagination, there is the legacy load of expired offers, dead deals, etc. Not useful information.
A fresh thread each (insert frequency here) helps to reduce the clutter of no longer valid information. Less noise to hunt through.
@ruouttaurmind
Can see that. That’s why I voted Yes. : )
@ruouttaurmind So are you recommending a no fun zone?
/giphy no fun allowed
@sammydog01 It certainly would be more conducive to the success of the thread, innit?

Also Itunes seems to have:
The Human Planet Series 1 at that price. So far, Amazon has not price-matched.
I have not checked to see if VUDU or Google Play are price matching these.
If you want them in 4K or whatever, these won’t be at those resolutions.
@mfladd
Time to start a March 2017 deals.meh thread.
@f00l @mfladd hasn’t been active on this thread for a week. It appears he’s orphaned the idea?
@ruouttaurmind
@mfladd!
wake the fuck up!
start a new deals thread for March already.
