@hippiechik@communist@jseay65 See, now this is what's bad about having a goat; with just the slightest (or, really, no) provocation, they use me as an excuse to just flop out their ball sack. SMH
I've got a regular 2.0 and I was really excited to own it for about one week. It's got some good potential and you can even dabble in some programming apps also. Pretty solid price as well.
@studerc Thanks, dude. This is what persuaded the spousal unit that it might not be an awesome cool fun idea. So, theoretically, I should actually be grateful that we're not wasting $70. But I want a toy. Waaaah. Er, bleeeat.
Will it be delivered in time for Christmas? Seriously though, I totally would have gotten this for my nephew. He wanted something similar that cost a lot more and I would have been his favorite aunt.
This thing was actually really cool to play with. It has some kind of weird quest system where you get xp for driving it around and it unlocks new abilities like a turbo boost. Here's a crappy time lapse of when we were playing with it:
Considering we knew this was coming at some point I could not possibly be less excited at this very moment. Hell, even if we didn't know it was coming, I'd still be nearing coma levels.
I wouldn't pay you 68 dollars for this.... but I would let you pay me 20 dollars for it no questions asked... thanks in advance and can't wait to not receive it
What can I do with this other than drive it around?
Seriously, what? I can't justify spending $68 on a neato RC car that is controlled with a smartphone unless it does things. Sell it to me. (and everyone else)
Edit: if you're selling it here I doubt it has a good app ecosystem.
@Fej a lot of aspects of it are programmable and it includes API information so it's more like a robot you can program and control with your cell phone.
@Fej With some amount of effort you can use it as a 3D mouse. At $68, it won't be a cheap one. WiiMotes are much cheaper if you want 3D computer input.
Meh, if it had a camera so I could drive around and annoy the cats from the comfort of my bed with exerting as little effort as possible, then maybe. If it had friggin laser beams it would be even better. Alas, like CES, I'm dissapointed.
Constructive feedback: my completely useless toy budget becomes exhausted long before $68. Especially for a ball already dabbled by someone else. VMP no help here either.
@christinerenee It was a bit bulkier than I expected but seems to work well enough. I use it in my loft because carrying a full size vacuum up a spiral staircase is terrible.
@Dickbutt I should clarify that I'm actually pretty fond of my new vacuum. But it's very funny looking and I don't want my friends or family to see it because I know they'll make fun of me for buying it.
@Kerig3 aha. At least a quad (when equipped with a camera) can be useful and even make some money. Plus tweaking the FAA on commercial-quad-hate gets bonus points.
I have the regular Sphero 2.0 that I bought from my job. It's actually more fun than I thought it would be. There are other apps you can use to play games with it. It's got a couple that you use the ball as a controller and move the ball back and forth to move a character on the screen. I've leveled mine up, and it's learned some 'tricks'. My cats don't really like it, but then that's part of the fun for me! Too bad I already have one, or I'd be tempted to buy this guy, lol
@RedOak it's not that exciting. I work for Brookstone. Which can be fun...I get to play with all the toys. I liked Sphero enough to buy one. Although, getting paid to play with toys isn't a bad job, and once in a while I even get to sit in one of their massage chairs. :)
@robson This is what ( along with rock speakers ) is called, catching up on shipping/billing/warehouse placement. Expect some higher sellers come tomorrow for the 2 for Tuesday and probably something decent around Thursday.
I was considering buying one of these as something to mess around with and as a great cat toy, but $100+ and then the case to help armor it from cats was too much. The clear version seemed cooler too.
Then you go and offer this and force my hand. Bastards.
Now to wait for it to arrive, fuse the case with some string and feathers and create the ultimate cat death trap.
I got a 1.0 on Woot maybe a year or so ago. If 2.0 is interesting, they solved some serious problems. I ran out of fun around 10, maybe 15 minutes in.
I will say: My cat is very skittish, so I just left this on the living room floor where she could check it out and get used to it for a couple of days, then would activate it without moving it every so often for a couple of days so she'd look to see what was going on, and then finally there was the reveal where it moved across the floor while she watched. But I think "fun" is stretching it for both the cat and me on that whole process. It was more like swapping the excitement of bookkeeping for the excitement of stamp collecting.
@Dickbutt I wouldn't try to compare a phone with a ball; however, the ball might be compatible with a Windows phone. There is one 3-star review from "Gabriel's Buddy" that states, " Update 12/30/2014 *** I switched to a Windows phone and noticed the Sphero app, so I took this out again. I really enjoyed the new app, as do my sons. One game is like "hot and cold" where you find hidden depots with the Sphero beeping faster and changing colors when you get close. The other part of the app has a video with Sphero's origin story and a game that successively builds skills."
@Kerig3 Windows phones have been around since the 2000. They were competing with PalmOS phones and Blackberry since long before Apple and Google entered the smartphone arena. Microsoft still makes the best mobile operating system.
@Froggy "Microsoft still makes the best mobile operating system" Since when? My wife used to have one of these: and that mobile Windows version was god awful.
@Dickbutt I came to ask the same thing - is it compatible with Windows Phones? Everyone in my family has a Windows Phone, so it so... might make a good birthday gift.
@medz Yeah I had one of those too. Good times. :) Those actually ran "Windows Mobile" which was an earlier much more limited version of Windows that was made for phones in 2000 all the way up through 2009ish. But the iPhone UI changed everything in 2007 with being finger friendly and not needing a stylus. Microsoft took far too long to respond, finally releasing an entirely new version called Windows Phone in 2010. It's gotten better each year and many reputable tech sites like Engadget have said that it might be the best overall smart phone OS, it's just a shame not many people (relative to iOS and Android) use it yet because so many apps these days are being built for iOS first, Android second, and then Windows Phone third if at all.
@Froggy I won't be interested until the Nokia Lumias are available on my network, as of now it's pretty much a Verizon exclusive. Shoutout to the HTC One M8 Windows phone edition though.
@andrewpatrick Sounds like you are on Sprint then, the lack of a decent Windows phones is why I switched away from them to T-Mobile. I'm now rocking a Nokia 1520 Phablet, it rocks.
Seven feet per second on a six inch screen...that's dizzying....sixty dollar app that wags the phone...No thanks, thank you very much. This thing should have stayed in Vegas.
@ongware My dogs have a love/hate relationship with the little R/C 'copter I got from Meh just before Christmas. They love to chase it... they hate to catch it when the blades are spinning...
@ruouttaurmind Hahah! I ordered three of them for the purpose too! I killed one already by attaching a dog toy too it, and having it shaken to death on the end of the dog toy.
I bought the 1.0 from woot for my nephew. We played with it at my house for a while. I thought it was a lot of fun and was sad to see it go home with him. I'm sorely tempted here.
I couldn't do it. I don't think I'd play with it enough to warrant the price. It was a tough decision, though. Even the programmability couldn't sway me. If I'm going to write programs for a gadget, I should get my LIFX programs running again.
@unixrab I think you've accidentally revealed that you're Mr. Creosote, and meh is the wafer thin mint at the end of a metaphorical evening of ecommerce overindulgence.

I would pass. It is really neat... just not what I want to do with my free time (and my son clearly agrees).
I think this would be a lot of fun, but not $68 worth of fun. At $30 I probably would have pulled the trigger. At $25 it would be a sure bet. I'm surprised they're such a high retail price for an RC ball.
I thought I would come in here and say that my little friend showed up last weekend. I've named him "Roy" (because "Orbison"). He's very sweet. Less tricky than flying things, more agile than most RC rolling things I've played with. The iOS interface and the way that it interacts with the Sphero is cool. I'm neither unhappy nor bored yet.
@mikibell I got my sphero for free from a great mehrican - @nadroj - and I think it's great. However, I'm ashamed to blame @joelmw for naming mine "rollie" as well....
@djames85 you were very important in the search for the power cord so my son could use this gift. He wanted to call it sphere, I suggested rollie..great minds, you know!

MEH!
Wtf
@Stallion nothing like disappointment at midnight EST
wasn't this the thing you accidentally revealed on twitter a few days ago?
@axleman1011 Yes, that was me that discovered it. Here's the link to the thread I created about it. https://meh.com/forum/topics/did-meh-accidentally-tweet-tomorrows-deal-early
@axleman1011
@axleman1011 the speaker rocks were also leaked
@axleman1011 Primitive attempts at self-destructing messages.
@communist And the speakers were just as meh as this product is. Wow, another "twist" on the ball....w,ho invented it, Hudsucker Industries?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110074/
@axleman1011 North Korea hacked into Meh and leaked it
LAME-o a remote control BALL o.O
@hippiechik
@hippiechik
@communist @jseay65 Just blame @joelmw
@hippiechik @communist @jseay65 See, now this is what's bad about having a goat; with just the slightest (or, really, no) provocation, they use me as an excuse to just flop out their ball sack. SMH
@hippiechik @communist @jseay65 I imagine those boys belong to this guy with the talking boil:
I've got a regular 2.0 and I was really excited to own it for about one week. It's got some good potential and you can even dabble in some programming apps also. Pretty solid price as well.
@studerc Thanks, dude. This is what persuaded the spousal unit that it might not be an awesome cool fun idea. So, theoretically, I should actually be grateful that we're not wasting $70. But I want a toy. Waaaah. Er, bleeeat.
I like to have my little ball play with my big ball.
Will it be delivered in time for Christmas? Seriously though, I totally would have gotten this for my nephew. He wanted something similar that cost a lot more and I would have been his favorite aunt.
@christinerenee You can still be his favorite Aunt, and get it for him now.
I'm a favorite Uncle. Thinking like this has earned me that title.
@Dash I'm tempted. (And technically I'm his only aunt so I should probably stop trying so hard.)
If it had a stun radius of about 10 meters I would get it.
This thing does not have pagination. I'm out.
Is this kid a cat? He seems more interested in the box than the ball.
Does it have a camera in it, 'cuz that would be cool...
@Comedian We know what you have in mind.
This is also better than rock speakers.
@Fej that's not how any of this works
@Fej a lot of aspects of it are programmable and it includes API information so it's more like a robot you can program and control with your cell phone.
@JonT Could you use it as a cheap 3D mouse?
@Fej With some amount of effort you can use it as a 3D mouse. At $68, it won't be a cheap one. WiiMotes are much cheaper if you want 3D computer input.
@Fej you can tick off your landlord by starting it off on a carpet scrap full of bright, ugly oil-based paint.
You said you wanted to be around when I made a mistake. Well, this could be it sweetheart.
Meh, if it had a camera so I could drive around and annoy the cats from the comfort of my bed with exerting as little effort as possible, then maybe. If it had friggin laser beams it would be even better. Alas, like CES, I'm dissapointed.
@vrillusions I don't see how that'd work since the ball spins... you wouldn't really ever get a good picture.
@squilly Unless it had some sort of gyroscopically balanced camera inside of it and the plastic was clear all around.
$68 to drive around a ball with my cell phone.
Constructive feedback: my completely useless toy budget becomes exhausted long before $68. Especially for a ball already dabbled by someone else. VMP no help here either.
@RedOak I spent my toy budget on a crazy Korean UV light vacuum. It seemed like a good idea at the time.
@RedOak My useless toy budget is already slotted for a sub-$30 direct-from-China quadcopter, so no balls for me either.
@Kerig3 aha. At least a quad (when equipped with a camera) can be useful and even make some money. Plus tweaking the FAA on commercial-quad-hate gets bonus points.
@christinerenee I had a girlfriend like that once...
@christinerenee I'll buy it off you for what you paid for it. My dad is allergic to dust mites and I missed that deal.
@SavvySapphire I want to hear more about your job.
@RedOak it's not that exciting. I work for Brookstone. Which can be fun...I get to play with all the toys. I liked Sphero enough to buy one. Although, getting paid to play with toys isn't a bad job, and once in a while I even get to sit in one of their massage chairs. :)
First a pair of rocks, now balls? Expensive balls too, but cheaper than a date, plus you can play with them by yourself.
What next?
@robson
First speaker rocks.
Then a robot that rolls.
When do we get the Hoochie Koo?
@TerriblyHuang singing myself to sleep. And giggling occasionally
@robson This is what ( along with rock speakers ) is called, catching up on shipping/billing/warehouse placement. Expect some higher sellers come tomorrow for the 2 for Tuesday and probably something decent around Thursday.
Meh. Just give me an augmented reality app that lets me roll around a virtual sphero instead and save me the $$
Can I terrify my cats with this or stalk ladies on facebook?
Awwww I've always wanted one of these, but I'm saving my money for PAX South in a few weeks.
I think giving an obedient intern a tennis ball and hockey stick might be more fun.
I shaved my sphero for this?
I was considering buying one of these as something to mess around with and as a great cat toy, but $100+ and then the case to help armor it from cats was too much. The clear version seemed cooler too.
Then you go and offer this and force my hand. Bastards.
Now to wait for it to arrive, fuse the case with some string and feathers and create the ultimate cat death trap.
What color is the nubby?
Are they all blue?
[write your blue ball nubby joke here]
I like purple.
Model number seems to confirm it is blue.
Great deal! Very exciting! Can't wait to try it out!
I got a 1.0 on Woot maybe a year or so ago. If 2.0 is interesting, they solved some serious problems. I ran out of fun around 10, maybe 15 minutes in.

No Georgia Red. . . for that alone, meh.
. . . tough to call if it would be worth it in Georgia Red anyway.
@jrwofuga That's my boy!
I love purple.
Not comparable with windows phone? Meh. Yall should sell a windows phone exclusive thing just to spite the "mainstreamers"
@Dickbutt wasn't yesterday's deal for Windows devices only?
@Dickbutt Windows Phone is a real thing? Just like Microsoft to enter the game late and then spend billion$ to catch up!
@Kerig3 Windows phones have been around since the 2000. They were competing with PalmOS phones and Blackberry since long before Apple and Google entered the smartphone arena. Microsoft still makes the best mobile operating system.
@Froggy I used it and ran screaming to Android. In fact, I used Android in emulation on Windows Phone to make it less awful.
@Froggy "Microsoft still makes the best mobile operating system" Since when? My wife used to have one of these: and that mobile Windows version was god awful.

@Dickbutt Oh good news! They did release a Windows Phone app! Now to ponder if it's worth $68... :) http://www.gosphero.com/sphero-now-available-on-microsoft-windows-and-windows-phone/
NOW somebody from North Dakota decides to buy something? They must be a lot more bored than I thought up there.
@Cinoclav Not much to do in North Dakota during the winter other than to play with your balls.
"$68 to drive around a ball with my cell phone."
I like this guy @jseay65 .
Fool, meh. Many korean baulk to buy 3 of sphero due to $68. $66 is better.
Seven feet per second on a six inch screen...that's dizzying....sixty dollar app that wags the phone...No thanks, thank you very much. This thing should have stayed in Vegas.
So if I got two could my kids compete against each other? Would they be able to be controlled separately??
@Pamtha Each ball runs off of a unique bluetooth connection, thus each kid will be able to individually control their ball.
I demand demehlition!
I've played with these a few times and this was enough for me to pull the trigger and buy one. Gimmick, but fun to show other people.
i like new stuff.
I'd be tempted for the dogs. I wonder how dog proof it is... They already chase around an RC car...
Meh mainly due to price. Are you sure this wasn't tomorrow's deal?
@readnj Nope, it's today's deal. But you can pretend it's tomorrow and get two for $136.
How about some "Art with a masculine flair" . . . that would sell like hotcakes.
@jrwofuga Maybe something like this?
@Cinoclav I cannot like this enough.
Now if it was a smart phone that was radio-controlled by a ball, then I'd be all over it...especially since I haven't a smart phone. ;-)
Statistically, you should have accidentally offered something better by now....
@unixrab I think you've accidentally revealed that you're Mr. Creosote, and meh is the wafer thin mint at the end of a metaphorical evening of ecommerce overindulgence.
@unixrab If you don't like what this site offers, instead of constantly complaining, why don't you go someplace else? I'm sure you can find a site out there somewhere that has the products you're looking for.
@cengland0 if you don't like my constant complaining why don't you go someplace else? I'm sure you can find a site out there somewhere that I am not complaining on.
When @cengland0 dies and goes to hell, they'll have Internet but @unixrab will be complaining on every single website.
@SSteve
I also got the 1.0 from Woot in October 2013. ($49 BTW). We all thought it was really neat and played with it for most of the day. That was the last time anyone played with it. I have not even thought of it until I saw this.
I would pass. It is really neat... just not what I want to do with my free time (and my son clearly agrees).
FYI - Sphero works with Windows Phones and Windows tablets as well: http://www.gosphero.com/sphero-now-available-on-microsoft-windows-and-windows-phone/
I think this would be a lot of fun, but not $68 worth of fun. At $30 I probably would have pulled the trigger. At $25 it would be a sure bet. I'm surprised they're such a high retail price for an RC ball.
@DaveInSoCal Yea, I'm torn about the price. Even $50, yea, I would be in.
@DaveInSoCal It's much more than an RC ball though, it's more like a programmable robot ball.
@JonT well... Since that's the case I'm in at $50 .
@DaveInSoCal @JonT so, are we getting one at $50? If so, hit me!
@ongware I think you must have missed it.
@DaveInSoCal oh, i definitely did. I'm still not die what i missed either. ...
Can't wait to play with my new balls!
You can program it? I'm in. Fun way to have my kid learn more programming by controlling a robot.
Were any historians reminded of a certain Vice President today?
@RedOak While I'm not exactly a historian, every damn time I see the name I think of Agnew.
I want it but don't want to spend the money
meh on the price not the item
i have wanted one of these for a while.... i really dont have 70 dollars to blow right now.... meh.
I just bought one off here, really excited
I thought I would come in here and say that my little friend showed up last weekend. I've named him "Roy" (because "Orbison"). He's very sweet. One of our cats really likes him and I'm sure the other will come around. I have to say, for a grown up toy, Roy is pretty awesome. Less tricky than flying things, more agile than most RC rolling things I've played with. The iOS interface and the way that it interacts with the Sphero is cool. I'm neither unhappy nor bored yet.
I blame @joelmw for me deciding not to buy one. It sounds fun. Waaahhhh!!!!
@SSteve
@joelmw My son and hubby are learning how to program "rollie", they are discussing "for next loops" and rbg.. sigh

@doogy I've got my one which forwaded to Korea last week
@adonas What do you mean by forwaded?
