Sour candy, not so sour?
9The other day at work in the break room, a co-worker grabbed a pack of Sour Patch Kids out of the vending machine. She ate one, looked like she was eating a lemon, and then proceeded to give them to me because they were way too sour for her. Then she was flabbergasted to find out that I didn’t even think they were sour.
I can eat Warheads, no problem.
I’ve considered buying sour candy online that’s supposed to be the sourest of all sour candy because I’m curious if my taste buds are broken.
I have eaten plain lemon wedges, and they do taste sour, but not to the point of making crazy faces. Maybe I have trained my taste buds just like someone who eats hot food all the time can go hotter and hotter. I am horrible at eating spicy food.
What’s your favorite sour candy? Do you like it to be extra sour? Do you hate sour candy?

Warheads are my favorite. Their popsicle was an interesting treat.

@DrunkCat popsicle? I’ve never seen this!
@RiotDemon
Sadly, most of the candy which I am able to eat (for various reasons) which as marketed as “sour” is just wimpy in strength.
I only like Jimmies.
@KittyJimmies what’s the difference between a Jimmie and a sprinkle?
@RiotDemon Jimmies are right.
@RiotDemon Chocolate sprinkles are Jimmies; Rainbow sprinkles are Sprinkles.
@looseneck I guess I could of read the Wikipedia for more info. I had no idea sprinkles have such a history.

Oh, I really dislike sprinkles except inside funfetti cake… Because they dissolve and no longer resemble sprinkles at that point.

Iron Hill Brewery (at least at the restaurant) has a beer which is so sour, it comes with a raspberry syrup that you mix in as part of the drink.
@dashcloud beer + raspberry?
Sounds kinda gross… But I don’t like beer, soo…
@RiotDemon Black Dog Honey Raspberry Ale is phenomenal.
@cinoclav I’ll take your word for it. All beer tastes like, well, beer to me. And I don’t happen to like that beer taste. So I will pass.
Can you eat spicy stuff?
@vanslaterco I don’t like anything too spicy. When getting buffalo wings I’ll order medium. They leave a nice tingle without making me regret all my decisions.
It’s not a candy but if you want sour, and I mean SOUR seek out some kumquats. They look like large grape sized oranges that you eat the whole thing of - peel and all. It’s a super thin peel though and it’s the only sweet part. The fruit itself is varying strengths of sour but all still extremely sour. Lemon wedges are the lightest level of sour you can get kumquat wise in my experience. A couple times in a pack you bump into one that’s mind numbingly facemelting sour and when I bump into those bad boys I cringe and get goosebumps they are so beyond sour. I love finding those!
@Tiamat114 my mouth is watering, haha
I will have to check them out!
@Tiamat114 So fun story the first time I saw them I didnt know what they were. So I bought some and peeled the rind off and ate the center… Bad idea. Googled it, looked quizzically that I was only supposed to eat the rind, then continued to pop them whole.

I just wanna be like the kids at the end… Making faces at sour candy.
Most sour candy is coated with or contains citric acid, tho malic and other acids are also sour.
Eons ago, we got an “experiment with candy making” science kit for my daughter, which among other things contained quantities of citric acid for mixing into or coating the candies that were made.
I like such things, but no longer eat them because when I do, my teeth hurt for 2-3 days afterwards
These are what I like:
Not too sour, not so sweet, a perfect balance.
Way overpriced on amazon, check your grocer they are like $2.49 a tin there.
I love sour candy, this is my go to: Raley’s Acid Drops
If you like warheads, Toxic Waste is a little more sour. I used to be partial to the cry babies gum.
But nothing works anymore and I just watch the skin flake off my mouth when I eat too much stuff with citric acid.
@darkzrobe hah. That’s always an interesting sensation. Haven’t had that happen in a while.
The same thing happened to me. Sour patch Kids are sour to me anymore and I even got the extremely sour ones and I still had no reaction. But I gave one to my mom and it looked like she was dying.
@spiderhero09 thank you for necroposting this topic from 2016.
This thread reminds me of a friend’s story when she worked at a local upscale grocery store. Their return policy had no restrictions. Someone returned an open bottle of cayenne pepper. The reason? Too spicy
@ironcheftoni Or this:

@ironcheftoni @Kyeh A friend of mine actually ordered steak tartare not knowing it was a raw dish. He was quite embarrassed, but the restaurant staff was very kind and replaced it with something else for him. Personally, I love it. I almost never see it on a menu anymore though.
@Kyeh @Pony oh, and there is also this.
I like sour candy. I also seem to be somewhat immune to the sourness. I haven’t bought any in a few years, though.
