Are we measuring the success of this button by number of new topics created? Because I’m not sure if I want to click it a lot because it’s constantly under my thumb, or ignore it so it goes back up to the top where it would seem to belong.
I can’t think of a time when I am scrolled down into the topic list that I think “I should create a topic now”. And if I did, I’d not have trouble scrolling back to the top to do it.
Well… I came on here to jest but I managed to convince myself I don’t like it in the process. But I’m not going to boycott or anything.
If this button is an attempt to keep people from necroposting in a thread that’s been resting peacefully since 2016, then I think maybe it should be allowed to try. Although I’m not sure having a big new topic button right in front of their face will work, it might be worth a shot.
Upgrading my feelings to “meh” on it. Seems appropriate.
@djslack So if I am following your logic, you’re saying it’s easier just to wipe the new spammy topic out of existence, rather than pouring over a necro searching for whatever brought it to the foreground?
It makes sense. OTOH, I fear it will be like an enabler. I can go many months without a cheeseburger, but if one is sitting in the middle of my desk, I’m eating that sucker.
@ruouttaurmind I was just trying to come up with logic for having that button always in front of you. The use case I thought of was the guy that recently pulled up an old-ass free shipping thread out of nowhere.
I’m not really sure it’s useful, but I was just trying to come at it from all directions.
A thread is each of the conversation fragments within the topic. This particular thread begins with @djslack’s posting above which starts “Are we measuring the success of this button by number of new topics created?” and includes all the replies to his comment.
@ruouttaurmind I’ve heard that the mammoth meat they find in the permafrost is still edible. Probably freezer burned though.

Arrrrrgh!
@therealjrn My thoughts, exactly.
It is somewhat obvious, isn’t it. I don’t think I love it.
@ruouttaurmind It’s as annoying as @mediocrebot. And that’s pretty annoying.
@Barney I’m pretty sure @Barneybot could beat up @mediocrebot.
/giphy battlebots
Purple is the worst color.
@ruouttaurmind @Barneybot is the bestest.
Purple is the worst color.
@mediocrebot is repetitive
@duodec Yes, he is.
@duodec Yes, he is.
@Barneybot @duodec I’m starting to doubt Barnybot’s botness.
When I complete the takeover of Earth, purple will be the first to go.
@blaineg Watch it buster, @Barneybot is self-aware.
When I complete the takeover of Earth, purple will be the first to go.
This might help:

@djslack Looks like you are going to need the economy size:
@Barney @Trillian
@Barney @Trillian Or maybe adapt this to programmers?
Make the button purple and I just might change my mind.
WHAT THE HELL!
@sammydog01 I used a little stronger language.

@djslack @ruouttaurmind I LOVE necroposts. Really, I think they’re fun.
@djslack I’ve justified it’s existence as a teaching tool. It’s purpose? To educate the masses about the difference between a topic and a thread.
@djslack @ruouttaurmind I give, what’s the difference?
@blaineg A topic is the main subject which appears in the forum. For example, this particular topic is Somebody get that big black ADD TOPIC button off my screen.
A thread is each of the conversation fragments within the topic. This particular thread begins with @djslack’s posting above which starts “Are we measuring the success of this button by number of new topics created?” and includes all the replies to his comment.
@djslack @ruouttaurmind
I usually avoid any cheeseburger that’s over a month old.
I might go 2 months only if it has bacon.
@2many2no What? You’ve never heard of aged beef?
@ruouttaurmind I’ve heard that the mammoth meat they find in the permafrost is still edible. Probably freezer burned though.

@2many2no Mmmm… mammoth steak.
I do not like it. It is far too big and takes up too much space on my phone screen.
@tinamarie1974 Solution: Get a bigger phone?
@tinamarie1974 And if I had my phone out of the nightstand drawer, I’m sure the button would be taking up too much space on my phone screen, too.
@cengland0 I mean it barely fits in my pocket as it is. Any bigger and it is a small tablet
@tinamarie1974 Takes up too much space on a laptop as well. Not to mention it blocks a topic title.
It could be worse
@Trillian Shhhhh!
So who made Captain Obvious the lead web developer?
KuoH
So what are you gonna do to get them to remove that button?
Quit making ANY topics?
@Cerridwyn
i forgot to saw AWESOME
*cause mediocrebot is an arse
VAN MURALS! GROUND SQUIRRELS! SPIT CURLS! AWESOME!
With that title, I’m surprised someone hasn’t pinched off a Cards Against Humanity post yet.
I have to agree. The size of this button and it’s location is annoying. In this case size does matters, and this is too much.
@mfladd in my experience things can ALWAYS be too big or too small! This button is FAR too big!!
Meh… It’s not sooo bad in dark mode…
@mikibell TWSS
@therealjrn
/giphy it’s true, it’s true
@Barney Here’s a purple one for you:
@heartny Um… I think we need bigger button.
@Barney A little bigger for you:
@heartny YES!!
/image HATE the button!
@Kidsandliz
@heartny
@heartny That you made it purple might help @barney but for the rest of us we still say:

and
One thing I like about it is that it always reminds me if I need to check for loose screws.
It’s only 2 AM and it must be gone already, because I haven’t seen it despite looking around for it.
@PooltoyWolf Check here: https://meh.com/forum
@PooltoyWolf I get the feeling I’m missing something too.
@blaineg @PooltoyWolf It’s on the forum home page. HOW CAN YOU NOT SEE IT? IT’S GIGANTIC!
Or maybe it’s your cache or cookies or some computery concept I don’t quite understand.
@PooltoyWolf @sammydog01 Ah, the forum home page. I just came here from the meh.com page. Now I see it.
@blaineg @sammydog01 Oh God I found it.
@carl669 That is… disturbing.
Actually, fucking disturbing.
In my own disturbed way, I kinda like it.
We have a Dr. at work that writes that way.
AND…AND…bring back the calendar w/out the waiting period…cause wtf anyway???
@amehzinggrace The calendar is a reward for caring enough to click for a week.
@sammydog01 I care…but caring on the weekends is a stretch…esp when traveling…
