I will lop off your head for bringing this up. The downvoting button was the death of Deals.wOOt. It empowers people who have nothing better to do than piss on others. If you do not like the comment - don't vote for it! That's good enough. The day this site was ever to go to Negastar's is the day I say bye-bye.
@mfladd I miss Deals. Not the deals themselves so much, but where I could ask questions about something and get a lot of good answers and opinions; and, in turn, maybe help others who had asked about other things.
@pooflady It is unfortunate the state deals.wOOt is in now. It is a ghost town held together by a few good members. A look at the leaderboard will show that many of those are here on meh.
@RedOak The inconsistent moderation was so frustrating. There wasn't enough on the spammy type posts and too much on user content and questions. They wanted participation, but only in a minute, exact way. It went from somewhere I checked daily to somewhere that bums me out. :/
I don't think it's an inherently evil, terrible, worse-than-Hitler idea, but I don't think it's needed on a forum of this size and quality.
Let's think about what downvoting actually is, for a moment. Downvoting means that everybody gets to be a mini-moderator, in a sense. In practice, that means that better posts rise to the top, and worse posts are buried and get seen by fewer people. Giant forums with tons of members and millions of posts often need such a system because there's just too much for paid moderators to handle. Meh isn't anywhere near that point yet, though. I've seen a couple of spam threads poke through (which were promptly made fun of) but for the most part our quality level is extremely high.
@kevin8er Thread was called "Cyst popping videos", thread contained a cyst popping video. Anybody surprised to see a cyst popping video in the cyst popping videos thread should probably have a long hard think about why they thought the cyst popping videos thread wouldn't contain cyst popping videos.
@Starblind Touche. I sensed you rolling your eyes a little as you typed that. Kudos for saying "cyst popping video(s)" 6 times in a single post. Well done.
Want meh to save each member's fav threads, browser independant, so we don't have to tote our "cyst popping videos" thread bookmarks around w us. Cloud bookmarks.

@pooflady I was a late comer to Deals.Woot (@ BlueMaple) - as it seemed to accelerate down hill. A big issue - little and/or inconsistent moderation.
One of the moderators was evil. Had some private dialogs with internal Woot folks and PMs with other wooters confirming that.
If Amazon did not want to apply appropriate management and resources they could have appointed community members to moderate. Shit or get off the pot.
Sad to see a framework with such potential get let go so flagrantly abandoned.

This is a terrible idea.
I don't honestly believe it should be done, but @DaveInSoCal thinks it is a good idea
I just came up with a cooler name for it.
@kevin8er I think it's a terrible idea
@DaveInSoCal I like to cause controversy too.
@kevin8er I like beer.

@Starblind Quality?!! Quality!!!!???? Have you even SEEN the Cyst popping thread????!!!!

We will never
allow it!
Hello? I thought we were pretty clear about this. NO OTHER CHANGES until we are able to type in PURPLE.
I say no. There is too much negativity in the world and we don't need more. I've had to unfriend people IRL for being toxic.
Just no.

@f00l I would so Negastar you if I had a button.
