@Starblind I did say my poe-law-meter was broken. Sadly I read stuff like this far too often in serious.
EDIT: Apparently it's all too serious. Got 72 hour probation for making a comment making note that it's just trolling/goofing around. Sorry starblind, it's pretty genuine. :(
@PurplePawprints I don't remember the exact words and it seems the powers that be deleted. It was basically making note how funny it was a mod took the jokes so seriously. Except apparently it was no joke. :(
@TaRDy I fear we all fear @starblind could go the way of @pavlov so we are treading lightly. Would hate for your every day goating to turn into some sort of bodily harm curse. Though I believe @pavlov was repaid with ample breast visits and copious amounts of narcotics, so maybe it wasn't all bad for him.
I can see where you would look at those comments and have a WTF? moment.
However, they have a point in that they are asking for some designs to depict love and relationships that look like them. I can get behind that.
I think picking apart a shirt design that was simple and cute was a poor way to ask for that. But I don't fault them for asking for some representation and inclusion. They should get to wear cute shirts, too.
@Thumperchick yea, like it's super easy to change the design to be inclusive and it probably wasn't even something the artist had considered, which is why it's so important for folks to be able to point that out without being dismissed
@Thumperchick I do agree that everyone should have representations in the forms they want available to them. But sometimes, a shirt is just a shirt.
If someone wants a shirt that represents an area of social justice that's important to them they should design and submit it. I think it's really unfair to blast someone else's art because it doesn't depict what you want it to. If Woot refuses to print it, then they should find somewhere else to submit it and shop somewhere that supports them. Or, start a business and print it themselves.
So often we want to see change in our world, but we don't want to personally make those changes. We just want to talk about it until everyone else changes for us.
Again, I don't fault anyone for wanting things that represent what they identify with. I just think jumping on a shirt that they perceive as representing a normative relationship isn't the place to ask for those changes.
@PurplePawprints I agree that bashing the design sucks. But how are the artists to know what some users want if they don't tell them? "Just do it yourself" "Start your own company" - those are also good suggestions, but they aren't the only options.
@Thumperchick You're right, they are not the only options, and I'm sorry if my comment implied I thought that. I don't know, I guess maybe they could start a new thread about what they'd like to see. Or maybe talk with Shirt.Woot's derby runners and ask if one (or more) week's contest could center around a certain issue to get the ball rolling with submissions? And, I don't mean that to limit things to that week, but to show whether or not people are actually interested in putting their money where their mouths are. If they were to get good feedback and sales, they'd be more likely to run more things that are not 'normative'. To be honest, I don't see it happening. I don't really remember shirt.woot ever claiming to be a SJW. They sell cutesy shirts that pander to the masses and geeklites. If there's a market for other things, thus far, they don't seem interested in tapping it.
@PurplePawprints We're pretty much kicking around different points of the same view. I understood what you meant, I just felt that clarification was needed.
@phatmass I'm offended because it's telling me I'm incomplete. Avocados clearly don't appreciate a strong, capable woman when they see one. Why do I need another half when I'm a whole person, avocado jerk?
@daveJay yes. that super simple change means anybody with a wife, girlfriend, husband, boyfriend, partner, or avocadbro can enjoy that shirt and literally nobody will think "hmmm, but why aren't we gendering these avocados?" because they're fucking avocados.
@Lotsofgoats No matter the gender roll a bisexual avocado chooses or is assigned by society, can we agree they are great with some lime juice, onions, tomato and a dash of cumin?
@Lotsofgoats Except they still look like different sexes to me by the presence of a seed in one, and the lack of a seed in the other. Kind of like the male and female ends of my RCA cables.
@thismyusername also, This: (also from the Avocado wikipedia page) "The word "avocado" comes from the Spanish aguacate, which in turn comes from the Nahuatl word āhuacatl /aːˈwakat͡ɬ/, which goes back to the proto-Aztecan *pa:wa which also meant "avocado". Sometimes the Nahuatl word was used with the meaning "testicle", probably because of the likeness between the fruit and the body part."
TL:DR Version: The Word we use for this Fruit (avocado) is the result of a mis-spelling/mis-translation of the Native word for it, āhuacatl, which basically translates to "Testicle" for somewhat obvious reasons...
maybe they should allow a communal t-shirt design done similarly to a mug shot. person x adds this part, person y adds this other part, person z adds another part and so on. i'm kind of getting tired of all this inclusivity crap.
I love the last comment :)
@mikibell The "I hate when cute cartoony shirts are use objects of oppression" comment? It's just so good.
To be fair I think there's probably one or two genuinely whiny posts in there, and the others are just trolling/ generally goofing around.
@Starblind - I would like to think it's all sarcasm, but I fear you're correct.
@Starblind I did say my poe-law-meter was broken. Sadly I read stuff like this far too often in serious.

@DrunkCat how do you serve your probation?
@mikibell By not visiting woot forums for 72 hours. Otherwise known as status quo.
@DrunkCat You won't have to go it alone. In your honor, I will forego visiting any woot forums for the next 72 hours.
I will then continue not visiting woot forums, but that's because the community has pretty much been destroyed.
@DrunkCat What did you post?
@PurplePawprints I kinda wonder too. I've said some pretty harsh things there before and was never ever close to being banned.
(Granted, they were valid points against the product.)
@hamjudo - Support @DrunkCat, boycott Woot forums!!!
I'm in - Where's the rally?
@PurplePawprints I don't remember the exact words and it seems the powers that be deleted. It was basically making note how funny it was a mod took the jokes so seriously. Except apparently it was no joke. :(
@Starblind I blame you for avoshirt-gate 2015
@NigelF solid blame card. I fear we have been too lenient this month on @Starblind because of that
amazingmeh Irk game.@TaRDy I fear we all fear @starblind could go the way of @pavlov so we are treading lightly. Would hate for your every day goating to turn into some sort of bodily harm curse. @bakeyoural I've been avoiding falling roofs by spending my entire goat month outside. So far so good, though I may die of exposure soon.
@Starblind Well, that may be but clearly it would be your fault.
They can't be serious. Are they?
@Kevin Got temp banned for assuming they were joking. Looks like they're dead serious.
@Kevin Your lack of knowing if they are serious has triggered my scepticism-itis , TRIGGERED.
I can see where you would look at those comments and have a WTF? moment.

@Thumperchick They want a shirt that shows male entitlement?
@Thumperchick yea, like it's super easy to change the design to be inclusive and it probably wasn't even something the artist had considered, which is why it's so important for folks to be able to point that out without being dismissed

@DrunkCat Aww, we don't need a shirt to show that.
@Thumperchick You're right, they are not the only options, and I'm sorry if my comment implied I thought that. I don't know, I guess maybe they could start a new thread about what they'd like to see. @Thumperchick Well those be the ones complainin'
@PurplePawprints We're pretty much kicking around different points of the same view. I understood what you meant, I just felt that clarification was needed.
@Thumperchick Yeah, I wasn't so much trying to disagree with you as just have a conversation about it.
@PurplePawprints I love the self affirming circle debate! Happens with my sisters all the time.
@PurplePawprints for Class President.
I will say that the person calling the design pornographic is just crazy.
It might be an appropriate time to resurrect this:
@KDemo One of my all time favorites. I sing it every time I slice an avocado.
@Trillian - I was wondering if @matthew might use this for the promised "filler" video.
@Trillian - I was also hoping to avert any negativity above, but the conversation seems to be thoughtful and civil. So, there's that.
@KDemo Oh my goodness, this is stuck in my head so bad now!
@daveJay - Ha ha. Um, better get used to it?
Is this any better?
@daveJay No. The seed implies that one of them is different somehow which is extremely offensive to people who don't want to feel different.
@phatmass I'm offended because it's telling me I'm incomplete. Avocados clearly don't appreciate a strong, capable woman when they see one. Why do I need another half when I'm a whole person, avocado jerk?

@Lotsofgoats but avacados are both male and female, just not at the same time.
@thismyusername cool, but I was talking about gender and not sex.
@daveJay
@daveJay I'm offended because others are offended
@thismyusername

The people who are so militant about bows making them feel exluded make me feel like a bad parent for letting my daughter wear bows. Can I sue?
@phatmass Class action lawsuit. I'm in. Let's lawyer up. Maybe that twistedlisa chick could represent us. (No @ for crazy.)
@bakeyoural hit the lawyer, delete the gym, and Facebook up
The only part I found shocking was that they actually sold something other than a lazy pop culture mash-up design for once.
maybe they should allow a communal t-shirt design done similarly to a mug shot. person x adds this part, person y adds this other part, person z adds another part and so on. i'm kind of getting tired of all this inclusivity crap.
@annwat Better yet, just sell blank tshirts and puff-paint. Done.
@bakeyoural Minus the puff paint!
@narfcake While I am currently sporting a "Black Out in NY" knockoff and do appreciate real art, I stand by my puff paint comment.
Oh sure, where was the outrage over the nude cupcake??
i didn't even know "heteronormativity" was a word...
This whole discussion reminds me of this from Hedwig and the Angry Inch
Being a stay at home dad has a lot going for it, but I find myself surfing the Internet way too much. Those kind of discussions start to drag me down.
I need a better distraction
@Kevin there's always online pr0n to get you, uh, up.
WHY DO THEY ASSUME THE MALE HAS THE SEED
WHY CANT THE MALE BE THE ONE WITH THE BOW
MAYBE THEY BOTH BE MEN
MAYBE THEY BOTH BE WOMEN
WHO'S HETERONORMATIVE NOW???????????!!!?)?(,,$!
Guessing this has been seen? enter link description here
oh the huge manatee, this avocado shirt is an abomination unto nuggan.
