Remember Jet.com???
7Months ago I posted about Jet.com, a new retailer site with the aims of rivaling Amazon. They had a contest to gain popularity through referrals.
For more info see here...https://meh.com/forum/topics/have-you-heard-of-jet-com-yet
For fun I decided to see how far I could go...in the end I ranked in at 1112th. Which we good enough for a free 5 year membership.
In the mail today i received my welcome package from Jet free of charge. Inside contained....
Free t-shirt
Free socks (sounds familiar...)
Free rubber band
6 pages of stickers (3 of which have super unique faces built into their logo...hmm that looks fucking familiar )
1 Jet Packing Box (yea...not a generic brown box)
And finally 5 cards with unique codes for 1 free year memberships to the site.
Whatcha think of all that? Feels like they took a couple pages out of Meh's playbook.

Wow, a free rubber band?? Don't think even meh ever did that before. But socks, huh?
(actually I joined and they keep nagging me by email).
Ooo, the rarely seen and liguistically challenging J-with-umlaut.
@Starblind Heretofore used almost exclusively by heavy metal bands.
Is it bad that the first thing I was doing was figuring out what brand blanks they printed the shirt on?
Looks like Canvas. Possible countries of origin: India, Pakistan, China, Vietnam, Egypt, Kenya, Honduras, Guatemala , Nicaragua, Mexico, or USA.
@narfcake And it's purple!
@narfcake Canvas indeed. Made in Kenya. 50% Poly, 25% Cotton, 25% Rayon.
@barney...youd love Jet. PURPLE EVERYWHERE!
PURPLE!
@studerc Canvas 3413 tri-blend. Very very very soft shirts. I'm unsure of their long term wear/durability, though Ramy is using them for the shirts at LookCuter.com, so I would think they're decent enough.
@studerc Nah, I'm a Meh kind of gal even though they've been lacking in the purple offerings lately.
@Barney Any reason why your mom isn't anywhere near as active as you on the forums? Does she not love purple as much as you do?
@Barney Is that actual final proof of you being female? Seems it was never truly answered after the initial assumption.
@cinoclav it was totally and purpley answered already.
@dashcloud Mom checks in every so often, but she's more into the nature websites--owls, hummingbirds, and she's really enjoying the bears (thank you, @Pamtha!). She did, however, buy a t-shirt although I'm not sure if she will wear it.
@cinoclav Yep, I'm a purple lovin' girl.
@Barney Is this you?
@Barney BEARS!!! I caught the ranger chat on Friday. I know they kill people, but sleepy yawning bears are still adorable.
@jqubed How could you tell that purple is my soul paint?
@Pamtha BEARS!!! LoL Mom is getting such a kick out of watching them (I catch them off and on). I'll have to ask her if she saw the ranger chat.
I was a lowly beta access level. So far I haven't found anything there worth the hassle of ordering. A few prices lowest of what I could find, but only by 1-2%. Unless that changes I won't be joining once my free access (6 months, I think) expires.
@duodec - Same here. In the market for a folding treadmill, but everything available is cheaper elsewhere.
@duodec This has also been my experience so far.
@duodec exactly our situation and reaction with Jet.com.
Limited choices and fakish low prices on the things I checked. (Just barely lower in some cases but not enough that it was worth it.). And wimpy selection.
Yawn. Back to Amazon Prime.
@duodec I have made six purchases with jet.com so far. I got in about three weeks ago and happy with it so far. It definitely helps when you buy in bulk. I purchased six boxes of baking soda for $.21 a box. It seems like I have a purple box at my doors almost every day lately.
So...@snapster, when can we all expect our custom Mediocre rubber bands to come in the mail? Heck, you could one up Jet and send out Mediocre pencils and shit too!
I got a one year membership, with no freebies at all. I've spent a few thousand there so far and saved a good amount of money. But I can see how it isn't for everyone. If you keep adding things you were going to buy anyways the cart prices drop nicely.
I too got the free membership and received the welcome box the other day. It was actually shipped from a town in South Jersey that I drive through on my way to work. There's a huge industrial park there so I'm assuming that's where their fulfillment center is for the area. I've shopped around and sent in a handful of suggestions on the beta site. They have quite a ways to go to compete with Amazon.
I was looking at a lawnmower on there. The competition price it listed was the price for a refurb mower. I emailed them to ask if the one listed was a refurb and they said nothing on the site was supposed to be refurbished. I'm not sure if I should take my chances or not, regardless of the free return shipping. It appears they have a lot of drop ship items and listings may be by third parties.
@cinoclav Trust your intuition on their site I have learned.
I got the six month free membership. I checked it out a couple months ago when I got the email saying I was 'in', but didn't really see anything worth looking too deeply. I guess I should check it out again.
@PurplePawprints I'm with you... can't seem to find any 'deals', I suspected I didn't understand how it worked and would go back and research it later?
Tonight I went ahead and put my shipping address in, for the swag box ;)
@thismyusername Haha I just put my shipping address in also, but I'm pretty sure my score wasn't high enough for swag. But yeah, I figured I wasn't really 'getting' it either and needed to research it and then promptly forgot about it.
@PurplePawprints oh crap we needed a score? oh well rofl
ATTN JET MARKETING DEPT: SEND US SWAG SO WE DON'T FORGET ABOUT YOU
@thismyusername Yeah, as far as I could tell, way back at the beginning, there was a pyramid-like scheme going on where your rank was based on the number of people you got to join, but then no one could do anything but get more people to join. I didn't really understand it all, and wasn't going to spam my friends when I wasn't sure the company was going to be something I'd want to stand behind later, so my rank only ended up being ~17K out of ~350K.
@thismyusername They sent an email asking for my information as to where to send my gift. It also asked for your t-shirt size so I assumed it would only be the shirt, but I received the same things as pictured above.
Did you guys get the email where they offered to put your name on the wall of their headquarters? I did that
@gnext2 why would we want that?
@gnext2 I received that a few days ago. Since we were able to pick our name for the wall, I chose Conan.
Did you guys get the email where they offered to put your name on the wall of their headquarters? I did that
@gnext2 why would we want that?
@nadroj I didn't say you would want it, I am just asking if anyone got the offer without making a purchase
I was somewhere in the bottom rung of studerc's pyramid. Only got a 6 month membership. Invite came last week. Think I might wait a while before I start my 6 months --- don't see any reason to hurry.
@walarney sadly you can get that now just for entering your email lol
Is this like Uber but with flying cars or some shit?
@nadroj exactly, its uber only with private jets.
Incoming Text: Hi, I'm Roger your pilot, your jet is here, I landed on the the street in front of your house, I hope you don't mind.
I love how they went for the ever-popular smiley-face logo but instead it looks like it's licking its own eye.
@Starblind
So you had to pay for the below items because you didn't put free before them?
"6 pages of stickers (3 of which have super unique faces built into their logo...hmm that looks fucking familiar )
1 Jet Packing Box (yea...not a generic brown box)"
I can confirm that the promo code GV0721J gives you a free one-year membership (that ostensibly starts with your first order but I don't know how to verify that), unless I was the last bastid to get to use it. Good lucks.
@editorkid I'm guessing there's no way to use it if you already have an account set up. I have a six-month membership but can't find a way to use the code to make it a year instead.
@PurplePawprints Ah, bummer. The Android gossip site that published the code didn't note any particular restrictions. But maybe all you need is a different e-mail?
@editorkid Yeah, I thought about just setting up a new account, but as of now, I'm feeling too lazy to do that. haha Although, I did see a mention above or purple boxes, and that is making Jet much more attractive to me.
@PurplePawprints @editorkid And I can confirm that using a different email works. Signed up yesterday for the six-month membership, just used the code above to get the one-year membership. Thanks @editorkid.
@editorkid I got a message that the above code was invalid, but I was able to successfully use one of the many other codes available on http://www.retailmenot.com/view/jet.com
It will be interesting to watch how the inventory increases and broadens. I can see potential for deals, but there aren't yet enough things I need/want at price points I can't beat/match elsewhere.
Just signed up with a free 12 month membership (thank you, RetailMeNot). A quick peruse of their prices left me slightly underwhelmed although there was a kick-ass price on the ridiculously expensive dog food my allergic angel eats.
Seems there's another code for a free 1 year membership if anyone wants to try them out. Use 'CURISMA' when signing up. At this point, as long as their codes don't expire I have enough emails and codes to have free memberships for about 4 years. I may shop there twice in that time period...
