And the answer is yes, the shaver end remains proprietary. A generic charging brick will work with the cord, but no generic USB-x cord will work with the shaver.
I have this. Overall it works well, but has a design flaw. The frame of the heads prevents the cutters from getting just under the nose, resulting in a mini hitler-stache. Fortunately the pop-up trimmer does a reasonable job of cleaning that up. It’s still annoying though.
Apart from that I’m happy with it, and this price is a steal. There’s an accompanying phone app (not required) that’s actually useful. The razor can communicate with it, and to my surprise it taught me an improved way to shave with it (light small circles).
If not for that one design flaw this would be a fantastic product.
@ParadisePete I have the same problem with my current razor, and my first thought was that the heads are even further from the edge than my current one. Still considering it, since it looks like a better razor overall.
@gtflip Reminds me of the old barber’s wife joke:
I was shaved by my barber’s wife Grace and she did such a good job, there hasn’t even been whiskers for weeks. I went to compliment her and she was nonplussed.
“You were shaved by Grace: and once shaved, always shaved!”
@ParadisePete I realize it’s a quibble, but I’d say that the inclusion of pop-up trimmer indicates an acknowledgement of the limitation and an effective remediation of it. So while I agree that it’s borderline, in my book that’s less a design flaw than a limit that affects many, if not most, other shavers in this class, and, unlike some, they’ve taken steps to address it. Maybe semantics, but I think it’s worth distinguishing.
I definitely agree with you about the annoyance though. One of the reasons I chose to quibble is that I really don’t like the way that I have to deal with that spot on my face. I’ve got multiple trimmers of various design and while some of them can handle the spot, it’s still a hassle and annoying as fuck. Part of the problem is that the hairs there tend to lie flat and each seems to grow out in a slightly different direction, so it feels like I’m always battling to get up under each individual hair.
In for one. I work from home now* and don’t shave as often with my brush and cup and my HUGE supply of razors and blades from a Meh deal 3 years ago. But if I need to run over to the small town grocery store or bank, I don’t want to look disheveled. So a quick use of this solves that. I think the money saved on these really good razors have paid for this.

Reportedly, when they started to ship the shavers, they discovered that they were short on inventory, and didn’t have enough units to fill all of the orders. Shipping labels had already been generated for some of the ones that got cancelled. Maybe all of them? I don’t know. Either way, it’s a situation that sucks all the way around. I wish I could see the front page, so I could still not buy this.
@haydesigner It was just a time change glitch. Front page is back to it’s normal shenanigans.
@haydesigner @yakkoTDI Should have been an atomic clock for sale, just sayin…
@haydesigner @yakkoTDI @ybmuG
Oh, yes - I’d like to see atomic clocks for sale!
Will this work on my crack?
@yakkoTDI it’s not a hedge clipper unfortunately
@yakkoTDI It’s not a weed whacker.
@yakkoTDI
For those of us who go right to the visual… Ew gross!
@yakkoTDI You need a mortar and pestle to grind crack.
@werehatrack @yakkoTDI that’s so medieval; we use jackhammers this century
Anything over 50 bucks on Meh is sus
@mcemanuel My Blendtec blender disagrees with you.

@ironcheftoni
Let’s say we’re old without saying how old we are!
Electric razers sound so very convenient. For me, they mean a repeat “convenience” several times a day.
@hchavers Greek, Italian, or middle eastern?
Lol
@Lynnerizer German, Irish, and American Indian, among others
This is the 7700 model. Amazon has 7700 and 7800 “newer”. Difference is 7800 uses USB-A charging cord. The 7700 uses traditional wall wort plug.
@mstnggt66 But is the shaver end of the 7800 cord still proprietary?
And the answer is yes, the shaver end remains proprietary. A generic charging brick will work with the cord, but no generic USB-x cord will work with the shaver.

@joelmw @ParadisePete Trimmers date back to 70’s long sideburns.
