@bass_pumped I haven’t used the newer versions of the ball shaver, but if they’re anything like the previous versions (and they look pretty much the same…), this one, no contest.
I used to use a safety razor, and it did a good job of not dragging/pinching/cutting, but it required a lot of caution and was time consuming to use as a result, as well as being time consuming to clean/maintain. I tried a couple different ball trimmers and didn’t find any of them to be at all better than regular clippers.
Picked up one of these cheap and if it ever dies, I’ll pay full price to replace it. I use the attachment shown in the main image, with the guide combs on the sides, but the face of the blade exposed. It gives a trim almost as good as my safety razor, and while I could cut myself with it, I’d have to be deliberately trying.
I also have a full beard, but I use it sans attachments to keep the margins neat and do some shaping now and then, and while it’s definitely lacking in power compared a decent pair of regular clippers, it handles the jobs I give it without complaint. Blades last a long time, I don’t usually have to change them more than once a year.
