The only hiking that I do is on a golf course, chasing a little white ball. And some cute young lady drives around delivering food and drinks to my fellow golfers.
That is a short, easy hike to only need a sandwich. And hell, even then, I take bars and trail mix and fruit just in case someone is injured or lost and you’re out there a long time. Preparedness is important.
Webster Dictionary:
Hike (hīk) to rise up
especially: to work upward out of place
“skirt had hiked up in back”
It seems inappropriate to bring a sandwich to such an event; but who am I to judge.
Makes me think of two comics: https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/titles/200139
A single chapter; the author starts up a story, but never moves beyond this. (Protagonist wanders around to his heart’s content, meets an old man, gets sent on a quest.)

This author/artist has a long-running series about an office administrator who gets her rocks off exercising by climbing mountains and enjoying outdoor cooking. Most chapters are excuses to draw mountain scenery (based on actual trips he took), share camping recipes, and avoid talking to other people (mountain tour groups).
Nothing, because I don’t hike. Although, I have been told to take a hike a few times.
@heartny I’ve never taken that advice
I have been on hikes before, but usually never long enough to need a meal. (But I was hungry when I got back down.)
What is this hike of which you speak?
I usually stop by Costco and grab a rotisserie chicken, pumpkin pie and a watermelon.
@tweezak no hotdog?
@kittykat9180 @tweezak
Pack lite much?
@tweezak gathering all these items from Costco is a hike in and of itself.
@tweezak How is it that my creative, original comment gets one like and all the hangers-on get 3-6 likes.
Snackies for the dog.
Not “A” protein bar. Rather a “Box” of protein bars. Oh, and I don’t hike anymore.
@hchavers
So where do you pack the box of protein bars to?
@hchavers @kittykat9180 Countries suffering food shortage AND housing deficit.

In the past, the selection of what to take on a hike was determined by two things; how far I planned to go, and what I had handy to take along.
I’m hoping to make such decisions again late this summer or sometime in the fall.
