Bought these last time they showed up, a pretty decent upgrade from the speakers packed it with my PC. One minor annoyance though, even though the manual suggests otherwise, the blue light on them keeps blinking even when connected via Aux, but nothing a piece of duck tape cant fix!
Bought these last time. They look nice, haven't tried the bluetooth yet. They're a bit quiet though, and I'm not sure the L/R balance is exactly 50/50.
All in all if you need new speakers and wont use them much, they're not bad. They look nice and sound good.
E: Oh and SSDDR said, the blue light on the side blinks no matter what if it's turned on. Kinda annoying but just cover it up with some black tape and you'll never know. I used electrical tape since it shouldn't be too hard to remove should I ever choose to.
Got these last time... compared to the meh gold standard (JBL Mini) these sound: Better
Yes that is correct, due to the tuneability of the bass and treble, and being wall powered and larger speakers (well actually 4 total here vs 2) these sound better than the jbl mini.
Downsides:
there is an old school combo volume + power switch.. ya know you turn it down until it "clicks" and then it is off... no issues yet but I suspect this will be the first part to fail.
damn flashing blue led - if you don't have anything paired to the bluetooth the stupid blue light will flash and flash and flash... annoying, but fixed with blackout tape.
hardwired aux in... so be prepared to mend a cable if you are the sort that ends up messing up cables... you can't simply swap out a 3.5mm to 3.5mm
Overall these are great sounding (when you goof with the bass and treble) for the price!
@RedOak well it's nothing to do with fair, just sound quality... they do sound better... so far these are the only other speakers from meh that do sound better than the mini dock (that I own anyway)...
Oh my God, Meh, just stop doing a billion repeats of recent stuff, move onto some new stuff, and make us some damned fukubukuros with all this crap you can't sell!
Hey Meh, if you're not going to get off this speaker thing, could you go and sell us some of those Marshall Bluetooth speaker boxes for a really great price! Cool thanks!!!
@thismyusername Thanks! I haven't been able to get the bluetooth working on my lappy though. Yeah, I saw them come up at midnight and just about (Blank) myself.
@thismyusername If you send me your address I'll send you some flowers, or ahm, something, um, nice! I remember the night you told me about these and how to get them on the secret page, and oh my you were so helpful, (helpful times 10, I'd say!), and, well, I really don't know how to tell you this, but I um, bought that wall socket monstrosity instead :( But I wrestled with it and wrestled with it and I didn't have the money for these, but I had the money for the monstrosity. And I thought if everything worked out, one day I'd be able to get the nicer ones :( I'm sorry.I thought we'd all move on,and no one would get hurt. But NOOOOO, meh had to bring the deal up again, and awaken my conscience, and your memory! Please try to find it in your heart to forgive me. It was just a financial thing and I didn't mean to hurt you, I never meant to make you cry. (This song doesn't exactly fit, but it's a very pretty song )
@StGermain these most likely sound better (I don't have the clarity hd but these are larger speaker cones)... but these are not portable (they require a wall plug for power)...
@StGermain I bought a Clarity Micro from Amazon after the one I got here came busted. I love it for watching video on my ipad- the voices are really clear. But the bluetooth has a really long delay and the lips and voices don't match up.
@mediocrebot you all right there bud? It took you about five extra minutes to post the product specs tonight. I mean, you were like 10th in line! Very unlike you...
I feel like I need these to be the anchor to my x-mini bluetooth speaker chain of doom, but I don't really want to go through the trouble of buying both them and a double female aux adapter. Woe is me.
@thismyusername emailed meh, they referred me to philips customer service. Filed a claim, never heard back... I just emailed Meh again to see if maybe they can ship me out a new set. Fingers crossed, because the one speaker that DID work out of the two sounded great.
@Squash meh will take care of you... I have never emailed them... I goto my orders and click on the "I need help with this" button under the order... not sure if that makes it faster or not... might be worth a try if you don't hear back in a couple of days.
Hold on, since these are made in China, is one named Wendy and the other Carnie? Or are they named Ann and Nancy? Because that would just be crazy on you to do that, if you had the heart.
@givemeyoursoul @MenofLaMehncha Thank you. Try the veal, I'm here all week. I am saddened to see the mehrudition around here has lived up to its namesake.
The first set you sold of these were officially the first purchase I made here that my wife didn't stare at me with that 'I'm gonna smack you,' look. Meh.com then turned from the 'I don't care if it's 10:55pm come to bed!' website, as well as the 'It's a Christmas present, I swear!' website, into 'the website my husband wastes way too much money on but got us neat speakers once,' website.
So...I'm buying another set. Surely this is a good idea, right?
i honestly can't tell if the writeup is sarcastic. I've skipped buying these precisely because I think the bulge on the top is hideous. Like the eye of sauron. I also am really not a fan of the knobs on the sides.
@lifftchi I don't know why you are complaining about the look of the speakers. Never mind the look at the top of the speakers or the knobs on the side. Have you listened to how they sounded? They sound wonderful. Stop complaining.
Great Speakers!!!!! They sound really good. The bluetooth connection was easy. I have nothing bad to say about these speakers. If I had use for more bluetooth speakers I would get another pair. Great speakers. Get them.......you won't regret it.
@sourhead Yes, well, sort of. My 32" TV in the basement (used for workouts, Xbox, and kids' tv) is set on a big entertainment cabinet. I bought these as a cheap alternative to a sound bar, and I'm actually very happy with them. I'm far from an audiophile, but for the price, these were a great pickup and exceeded my expectations. I have yet to try these as a bluetooth speaker system, but hard-wired to the television's headphone jack, they work very nicely.
@DaveInSoCal I love my Dot. The timer feature alone is worth it. But she is wired up to my Bose sounddock from the thrift store. And my bluetooth speakers cut off the beginning of her knock knock jokes.
"Model: SPA4270BT/37 (Philips puts "/37" at the end of a lot of model numbers - why? Because it's the atomic number of rubidium? Casey Stengel's uniform number? The number people are most likely to blurt out when asked to choose a random number between 1 and 100? What secret does 37 hold, Philips?)"
These things arrived today. I know it's not saying much, but they sound way better than the built in speaker on my TV. And they can go really really loud. Thanks Meh!
Oh God wow why didn't I buy two of these!! I have my cellphone hooked up to it and I am streaming the Opera on NPR on it right now and it sounds great. What you can't like Meh.com and the Opera?
OK, so I hooked these up to my Samsung smart TV. They sounded great. Then I discovered that the headphone jack on the TV isn't controlled by the volume button on the remote. So I have to get up and turn the knob on the speaker to change the volume. Does anyone know of a dock with an aux out or something like that with a remote that can control volume? Stupid Samsung.
@sammydog01 The Magnavox sound bar/tv stands Meh sold earlier this year work that way, but the remote is annoyingly tiny. You might check your tv's menu, maybe there's an option to treat the headphone jack as line out vs headphones, with the difference being that one mode is controlled by the tv's volume control.
@djslack There wasn't anything in the menu that helped. I chatted with Bhargav at Samsung and he (she?) said that it's a constant output so the remote doesn't do anything. Oh well, it was a nice idea. I guess I'll just have to get off my butt to change the volume.
Bluetooth!!!

Not these again!
Tempting for my garage.....
"Speaking" of deals -- listen up and lets HEAR it for Bluetooth speakers !
Dick Approves
Nope, dope, rope
Bought these last time they showed up, a pretty decent upgrade from the speakers packed it with my PC. One minor annoyance though, even though the manual suggests otherwise, the blue light on them keeps blinking even when connected via Aux, but nothing a piece of duck tape cant fix!
@SSDDR haha I did the same, taped up the light!
@SSDDR "Decent upgrade" from PC pack-in speakers? You are the poster child for faint praise...
@madmaxmedia i've been known to have a tin ear, so i can only speak to my situation! But i'm pleased with them
@SSDDR
// nothing a piece of duck tape cant fix!//
Good rule for life in general.

So, these speakers tell me what's on my bookshelf?
Got these last time... compared to the meh gold standard (JBL Mini) these sound: Better

@thismyusername So you have a Speaker in the House.
Hopefully they perform better then Paul Ryan.
@thismyusername nice they sound nice but 'not sure it is fair to compare speakers the size of a stack of cereal boxes to the JBL MIni speaker dock.
Can you easily carry these book shelf speakers from room to room? And use them off the grid whilst camping?
Yes, I do like my JBL Mini. And glad you like your Philies. Really.
@RedOak well it's nothing to do with fair, just sound quality... they do sound better... so far these are the only other speakers from meh that do sound better than the mini dock (that I own anyway)...
@growyoungagain hey now... Paul is very good at managing to keep 234 people doing absolutely nothing!
@thismyusername
So good, he can do it in only 3 days a week, 32 weeks a year!

Don't speak
I know just what you're selling
So please stop explaining
Don't tell meh cause it hurts
Meh knows me, I bought a new record player and am in search of new speakers to go with it, however these are not the speakers I am after.
@riceatusc Are you saying: "These are not the"... speakers... "you're looking for?
@PhysAssist I was expecting someone to say that.
Procured two pairs last time. They do their jobs acceptably. Not bad.
@armchair TWO pair?? Dang, somebody likes to live dangerously with their Meh deals
Yes, plain black boxes is all we need. UNLESS...someone came out with Bluetooth speakers that looked like giant blue teeth!
Déjà Meh?
@wew these are the bluetooth speakers you want...
@thismyusername ...these are the Bluetooth speakers I want.
@thismyusername Thanks! I haven't been able to get the bluetooth working on my lappy though. Yeah, I saw them come up at midnight and just about (Blank) myself.
@thismyusername I want to really thank you for remembering me. It gave me a warm feeling all day :)
@wew I am just glad I saved you from that wall socket monstrosity
and remember if these fail in 3 months blame Irk not me...
@thismyusername These aren't the speakers we want....they are the speakers we deserve.

(This song doesn't exactly fit, but it's a very pretty song )
@wew rofl, it's all good. I am sorry for your purchase.
I bought one of the Monster Clarity HD Micro speakers and I've been waiting for another of those to show up - I like it. Would this be even better?
@StGermain these most likely sound better (I don't have the clarity hd but these are larger speaker cones)... but these are not portable (they require a wall plug for power)...
@StGermain I bought a Clarity Micro from Amazon after the one I got here came busted. I love it for watching video on my ipad- the voices are really clear. But the bluetooth has a really long delay and the lips and voices don't match up.

Still rocking these guys in my lab. No need for now.
Woe is me.
These speakers are speaking to me. My only chance to escape is that they sell out. I will wait in hope that other meh-oids save me from myself.
@me ... looks like I am getting closer to empty-ing my wallet (again). Meh you, Meh!
Well, they can't sound any worse than my TV's built in speakers.
ghastly-flatulent-baseball
@tizio or smell as bad as that confirmation code. Good Lord!
What are the thress "dials" for? There isn't a good picture.
@cfg83 power, bass, treble
Last time I ordered they arrived DOA. Fuck me, right?
@Squash so do the replacements work?
@thismyusername emailed meh, they referred me to philips customer service. Filed a claim, never heard back... I just emailed Meh again to see if maybe they can ship me out a new set. Fingers crossed, because the one speaker that DID work out of the two sounded great.

They do sound pretty decent for the price.
@thismyusername yeah that's what I did. I'm confident they'll get the issue reosolved.
Hold on, since these are made in China, is one named Wendy and the other Carnie? Or are they named Ann and Nancy? Because that would just be crazy on you to do that, if you had the heart.
@mike808 RIMSHOT
@givemeyoursoul
@MenofLaMehncha
Thank you. Try the veal, I'm here all week. I am saddened to see the mehrudition around here has lived up to its namesake.
You need to sell some Atmos speakers now that you've sold a bunch of those Onkyo Atmos receivers. Mine shipped today, and I need two more speakers!
@KenC would this help?
@RedOak Haha, thanks, not the Atmos I am looking for!
@Satchmo With such an understanding wife, what could go wrong?
KuoH
@kuoh Yes it is a good idea. They are great speakers. I am trying to find another reason to buy another pair. They are that good.
@Satchmo You should be asking your wife, not Surely.
i honestly can't tell if the writeup is sarcastic.

Has anyone hooked these up to a tv for a poor man's soundbar?
@sourhead Yes, well, sort of. My 32" TV in the basement (used for workouts, Xbox, and kids' tv) is set on a big entertainment cabinet. I bought these as a cheap alternative to a sound bar, and I'm actually very happy with them. I'm far from an audiophile, but for the price, these were a great pickup and exceeded my expectations. I have yet to try these as a bluetooth speaker system, but hard-wired to the television's headphone jack, they work very nicely.
@sourhead yup, they're not too shabby.
@wickhameh You sold me! glib-frothy-substance
Not an image I was expecting.
@sammydog01 UGH. Nearly getting there too
@fjp999 I used my middle aged hearing loss as an excuse. Maybe I won't have to turn the TV volume up to 80 to understand dialog.
@sammydog01 i like to turn on closed captioning.
@sammydog01 Why not? Isn't that Rick Santorum? Look it up......
@givemeyoursoul The photo says it's Rubio.
Sooooo glad I paid $39 for these on morning save, Meh. Can I get a price adjustment credit? Ugh. Meh.
These might work nicely paired with the Amazon Dot.
@DaveInSoCal I love my Dot. The timer feature alone is worth it. But she is wired up to my Bose sounddock from the thrift store. And my bluetooth speakers cut off the beginning of her knock knock jokes.

37 = USA and Canada. http://hans.vandevrande.nu/philips-tv-numbering-explained
@no1 Way to ruin the magic bro.
Did this item sell out before the VMP 6:00 am deadline? I tried several times to complete my purchase and kept getting a "sorry, too late" message.
These things arrived today. I know it's not saying much, but they sound way better than the built in speaker on my TV. And they can go really really loud. Thanks Meh!
@sammydog01 dangit, now i feel like i shoulda bought a set.
The sound quality was much better than expected. Amazon Echo sound quality. Only wish I had purchased 3 more sets.

Does anyone know if there is a stand connector on the bottom?
@farmgirl9876 Mine are flat on the bottom with little rubber feet- no connector.
