@Limewater I have a roll of Necco wafers in the car. It is nice to have something that won’t dissolve in the heat and I love Necco wafers. Except for the chocolate and licorice flavors.

As a young penguin, whenever I would hear (or read in comics) how some kids would only really get jelly beans during certain times of the year, I would be somewhat surprised.
Ordinarily I’d say any peanut candy, I like those Goldenberg’s Peanut Chews, the Lance bars, peanut brittle depending on how it’s made… But right now in August?
Payday. Obviously a Baby Ruth is better. There are also a few regional variants of the Payday that have more of a soft vanilla nougat center, those are even better.
@mschuette@sammydog01 Yes they do, and they are amazing. A Baby Ruth is like a Snickers done right. Paydays are amazing because you can eat like 40 of them at a time and still feel you love yourself.

Sour Punchies. They took sour punch straws, cut and rolled them into tiny spheres, and coated them with a sweet fruity coating. Not the easiest to find but has been my favorite.
Better topic - non candy chocolate. Not talking about fudge or cakes or the like, but chocolate made by a chocolatier using high quality ingredients. Not full of milk and refined sugar

I choose Payday over chocolate most days, especially what passes for chocolate in most candy bars. Non-gooey caramel, especially that which contains no HFCS, gets top billing with me.
I’ve written of this before, but I will never stop mourning Garbage Candy, the candy that was shaped like garbage and came in a little plastic garbage can, and was basically pressed pellets of sugar… and was the greatest candy in the world.
@sligett Reminds me of arriving at Customs in the wee hours of the morning on my first trip to Australia. The Customs agent asked if I had any food in my luggage. I replied, “I have some Doritos”. The Customs agent responded “Burritos?” I said “No, Doritos”. She said “What?” I was too drunk with jet lag to change gears and make any sense so I tried the old fashioned American Way of speaking very slowly. “Doe Ree Toes.” At her continued look of confusion, I finally pulled them out of my carry on and handed them to her. “Oh”, she said, “Why didn’t you just say crisps?”. “Language barrier” I answered.
@capguncowboy There’s no such thing as too tart, but I definitely agree on the too sweet. I used to try those sour gummies but once the sour coating was gone I’d spit them out. Mouthful of jelly, eww.
@nigglez if I go to cracker barrel, I get some of those. Never heard of them before I saw them behind the counter. I like the fizziness. I also find it amusing that I tell people I’m giving them to that it fizzes, and they still get confused when they eat it. I actually had someone feet angry about it. I just looked at her and asked what she thought fizzy meant.
They’re 59¢ for four at CB. I suppose I should find them online cheaper if you used to be able to get them for a quarter… But then I’d probably eat way too many.
Speaking of candies we used to love, Toffifay is making a big comeback, I see it all over the place now. Technically it doesn’t meet the standard for the question as it has a dab of chocolate, but it’s mostly caramel and hazelnut cream.
Jelly babies. When my daughter visits England I make her bring them back. Her boyfriend also brings me some when he visits. Yes I can order online and find them in big mall candy shops. But they are overpriced that way.

@rm9116 My kid likes a Thai fish tasting, french fry looking, “chip”. In my opinion it smelled so bad I refused to taste it telling her that I didn’t want to deprive her of even one piece of something we could only buy infrequently that she loved so much.

Hard candies are great but they’re too sweet (or tart) to sustain anything more than a couple at a time. How are you supposed to binge like that!?
