National Dog Day
13August 26 is National Dog Day!
I have always loved dogs, all the way from Bismarck, the purebred German Shepherd we had when I was a kid, to my last dog Caramel (aka Mel, Melvis, Melvira), the purebred Pound Puppy I most recently had.
As you can see, Mel loved road trips. (Actually, you can’t see. Despite all the pics I have posted here in the past, I can’t get this one to show. I’ll try later.)

It has been 49 days since I hugged or kissed a big dog. First time in 35 years there is no German Shepherd in my house. Yeah, I know, all said before.
But today was hard. And I’ve had 2 old fashioneds. They’re not helping…

@Kyeh definitely! As much as I’d love to do the puppy thing again, it’ll be rescue all the way… There are too many good dogs in shelters not to give one a home. Shadow and the others would want to “keep it going” so I’m keeping an eye out…
@llangley We got the news last Wednesday that our GSD Bruno has cancer. He’s only 5 years old. The luck of the draw with rescues. He’s doing “okay” for now, but we’ll see how long that lasts.
I feel your pain, and I’m sorry for your loss.

. My first battles with GSD cancer were in 1998…vet oncology has made some great strides since then. I got years with some, not so long with others but I got to cherish them each and every day 
Hope and pray that you and Bruno will have a long, long time together still 
Dogs are proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. Bacon is proof that God loves us and dogs and wants us to be happy together.

@ThunderChicken Shelby hasn’t earned a nickname yet. She’s just 3 1/2 mo old.
Chevy has been known by many names in his 15 years with us. C-Dog, Chevrolet Nova, The C-Meister, Chev and there’s probably a few more. It really doesn’t matter what we call him, as he’s almost deaf. Luckily, when we train our dogs we also use hand signals.
Baxter Rowsdower Richoli, AKA Pupperpotomus, Puppersaurus Bax, and Tribble Tribble Tribble the Pup-O-Matic Pibble. He’s an 11-year-old AmStaff/Boxer mix who loves children of all species and being a farm dog. Slowing down a little in his old age, but still a big puppy. He’s the reason why I’m a dog person.
