@stinks, me too!! I have a semi-big COBALTTX Spkr, but it just won’t connect with Zoom & doesn’t last long outside…never 12 hours! I really do hate temptation, it stinks too!
Nope. This box certainly doesn’t contain two subwoofers, and almost certainly contains zero subwoofers. The manufacturer either does not know what a subwoofer is, or is deliberately misleading customers. It has one large (almost certainly mid-range) driver and one small high-frequency driver (tweeter). It has two bass reflex ports, the holes in the front of the box. If you don’t care to read that wiki article, those will make the low end louder, but also make the overall sound muddy/muffled. If this unit produces any sound below 300Hz, it’s likely doing so by accident rather than as a result of the music you’re playing actually containing those sounds.
@aarond12 Tell me you don’t know what a “subwoofer” is without actually telling me.
It’s pretty damn clear that 6" driver is full range and not a subwoofer, unless you really think it’s only providing low-end response, and the dinky little 1.5" tweeter is reproducing every sound above a few hundred Hz.
@Aspirant_Fool Hence the “quotes” around “subwoofer”. And yes, I know what a subwoofer is. Use your own words rather than trying to make a meme fit where it doesn’t.
“Only visible to you and @aarond12
I’ve operated professional sound boards, mixers, and amps since 1978. Were you even born then?”
Why are you liking your own posts and trying to pick fights with ageist nonsense in whispers? I can also make judgements about people’s credibility based on their age, and since you like memes: Okay boomer.
Note that my interpretation of your post with the exploded view was that you were attacking me for missing the ‘obvious’ subwoofer, when this device obviously contains zero subwoofers. If that wasn’t your intention, I apologize for the misunderstanding.
This looks kinda neat. I wonder if it would work for my teenager when she plays guitar? With one mic for her vocals and one in front of her acoustic, maybe she could get away without having to lug her larger amp to smaller get togethers.
@Lynnerizer ummm….she’ll KILL me if she finds out I did this… She just turned 17, but she’s 15 in this video. She tends to not let me record her so I don’t have much online.
I’m no stage mom, so I’m not going to tell you she’s an absolutely amazing guitar player or singer! But she writes all her own stuff (although she loves playing older music like Dust in the Wind and Hotel California, lol!).
She’s been writing music since she was about 5 or 6, and she does a decent job writing good hooks …however, she almost never polishes them to performance/recording level. If she put her mind to it, she’d be pretty good, but her social life takes precedence over her music. However, she enjoys playing, and to me, that’s a win. I’ve never forced my kids to practice…l want them to enjoy it just for themselves first.
@k4evryng
Thank you for sharing, she’s fantastic!! I’m thinking she probably doesn’t know this yet but she’s so very blessed to have a emotional outlet like this. I just love her style of putting things together, her music and the way she sings her lyrics. Tone, pitch, rhythm… IDK what it’s called! Lol Obviously I don’t know the correct verbage, the only thing I know about music is what I like and how it makes me feel!
Her song was excellent, she’s definitely got talent! It reminds me of that song from Seinfeld’s finale, Time Of Your Life.
My aunt who played guitar filled my childhood heart with memories of Puff The Magic Dragon. If your daughter does anything similar for even one person she’ll make a huge difference in someone’s life. Music does BIG things for some people, she’s got a great gift!! Thanks again for sharing!
@Lynnerizer You are so very kind! She definitely uses music as an emotional outlet (and honestly…most of her stuff is pretty depressing and dark…like ‘a call from the school counselor on more than a few occasions’ dark. ) But I feel like if she didn’t have this ability to put her life into lyrics, her depression would be so much worse. Her songs are like a musical journal of her entire childhood.
And even though she’s probably only average at playing and singing, her family and friends (and a lot of her teachers) are fans and want to hear whatever new stuff she is working on. In 7th grade she got accepted into a performing arts school, but she chickened out…which was fine with us. I just want her to really enjoy expressing herself without it being a chore. If she chooses to go hard at music later on that’s awesome! But it’ll be because she wants it and not because we forced her.
Also…I literally was just talking about Puff the Magic Dragon to her last week and told her she should learn it! How funny is that? (She never wants to learn the stuff I ask her too so I don’t have high hopes, lol!) But I LOVED that song as a kid! I’ll have to ask her again, and if I can get her to do it, I’ll record it for both of us! I love that you have that fond memory with your aunt! Music absolutely touches us in such a deep and meaningful way!
I also love Time of Your Life and it’s quite a compliment that Grace’s song reminds you of that!! Thank you again…you made my day!
I guess I’ll sleep on this too! I don’t have a daughter, but I do have a few 6 & 12 string acoustic guitars & it would beat breaking out a heavy amp & !!
@Tenderizer, the quick answer’s No! The long answer is no, I don’t take requests & probably wouldn’t know the song anyway + I have peripheral neuropathy & muscle cramps, so I likely couldn’t get through a whole song!!..I also, assume you were just being a bit sarcastic, but I love a bit of sarcasm,… kinda like I went on above!!
@LMeek112, me too!! I hated my MOTO G which I’ve only had about a month ish. I hope this Speaker Is a lot better quality since I might buy one later today!!
@alternatetheory TL;DR… deal killers: it says “Hello Moto” every time you turn it on. And, “not for audiophiles”. Apparently it sounds clean at low volume but distorts as the volume rises.
@alternatetheory@RedOak Motorola got its start making car radios (Motor-ola), and all the way up through at least the '80s, one of the most reliable misfeatures of American car audio was “If you crank it, it will suck.” I guess they never got away from that; maybe it’s regarded as a hallowed tradition from their cherished past at this point.
@alternatetheory@werehatrack … and now Motorola (the consumer stuff) is a Chinese company. (Owned by Chinese Lenovo, who bought the IBM laptop division many years ago.)
@alternatetheory@RedOak@werehatrack But also Motorola made a lot of military and government stuff at one time, including police radios. “Car51, where are you?” “1-Adam-12” etc.
And the idea that you could “outrun the police” was much tougher when communication radios were in all (“calling all”) police cars — which led to the old motto
@RedOak At this age I’m not planning any 20 hour OR 11 hour parties. maybe about 90 minutes. So I guess this would be OK for me. But I’d still yell “enough with the lights already” and “turn it down will ya!”
@RedOak I am listening to the All Classical station on FM in the background as I type this. If I had purchased this speaker (I thought about it but didn’t), I would use the feature.
@macromeh yah, I totally get that and I was the same way. But now I can stream the best stations from anywhere - without wondering whether the antenna will bring in a solid signal. A reliable favorite, based several states away in North Carolina, is WCPE. Check it out. Except when they do odd dedicated shows.

Perfect for filling the trunk with music.
@yakkoTDI Less messy too.
Will this connect to my StarTAC?
@mcanavino Will it automatically connect to StarNet?
@werehatrack If you turn it to 11, you can hear the music from space.
It’s missing the “dock” part…
@haydesigner

Any videos of meh staff demonstrating the product?

Party speaker? I thought politics was frowned upon here.
@phendrick There’s no end to the stuff I intend to frown upon, here or anywhere.

I wish I didn’t want this. I may be tempted.
@stinks, me too!! I have a semi-big COBALTTX Spkr, but it just won’t connect with Zoom & doesn’t last long outside…never 12 hours!
I really do hate temptation, it stinks too!

The last thing anyone wants to hear at a party is me singing.
@werehatrack Historically, when I’ve done that, it was the last thing that they heard before deciding to leave, abruptly.
@werehatrack, SOLUTION: Take the Speaker to the party; leave the mic at home!!
Can I use it to order margaritas over the noise?
Marching somewhere? Get a half dozen of these to carry along. (Note that not everyone in group #3 can stay in step.)
Alternatively, good if you are planning a protest somewhere.
@phendrick Shameful, they missed number 1 in their top 5
@Aspirant_Fool
Heh.
(I had forgotten Warren Oates was in that film.)
“dual subwoofers”
Nope. This box certainly doesn’t contain two subwoofers, and almost certainly contains zero subwoofers. @Aspirant_Fool I think the ad copy is confusing the 810 with the 820, which does have dual woofers.
@PooltoyWolf Doesn’t appear to be; Motorolla’s product page for the 810 also makes the “Features a powerful 40W dual-subwoofer system” claim.
@Aspirant_Fool, well now, this is discouraging, but it does temper down my temptation a bit!! I does like my bass!!
Woof, Woof!!
@Aspirant_Fool I agree except for the 300 hz part. With a 6.5" woofer and a cabinet that size it could easily go down to 50 hz or so.
@Aspirant_Fool Pretty damn clear with the exploded view that there is one “subwoofer” in this cabinet.

@aarond12 @Aspirant_Fool Indeed, clearly the one woofer is the only one there…
@Aspirant_Fool Hence the “quotes” around “subwoofer”. And yes, I know what a subwoofer is. Use your own words rather than trying to make a meme fit where it doesn’t.
@aarond12

This actually seems like a pretty good item. However, I can’t think of a reason that I’d need it.
@CBL_WV have you heard it in person?
This looks kinda neat. I wonder if it would work for my teenager when she plays guitar?
With one mic for her vocals and one in front of her acoustic, maybe she could get away without having to lug her larger amp to smaller get togethers.
Hmmm. I’ll sleep on it I guess.
@k4evryng

Do you have any video of her doing her thing that you’d like to share? I’d love to listen and who knows, maybe she’ll be discovered!

@katbyter Whenever I think about the 80s I immediately think of boom boxes.
But that’s just a stereo type.
@katbyter @tweezak

@katbyter @ladyhawke001 I wish I could claim that as original but, alas, I am far from that clever.

Damn. And I just switched from a Motorola to a PrimeCo phone.
@LMeek112, me too!! I hated my MOTO G which I’ve only had about a month ish. I hope this Speaker Is a lot better quality since I might buy one later today!!
@LMeek112 but there’s got to be a better way.
@LMeek112 I loved my primeco phone. it was like a flip phone before flip phones.
His master’s voice? Nice.
You have to get two of them to play in stereo? Pass.
@pixelated After the progression from mono to stereo to quadrophonic to surround, I never imagined the acceptable standard would become mono again.
The protest is going to be lit.
Truly a ‘meh’ offering
But the price is nice, at least compared to what they are selling it for on Amazon
I’m a sucker for audio gear
@alternatetheory TL;DR… deal killers: it says “Hello Moto” every time you turn it on. And, “not for audiophiles”. Apparently it sounds clean at low volume but distorts as the volume rises.

@alternatetheory @RedOak And Lenovo makes the Moto smartphones. I had one. “Underwhelmed” would describe my recollection of it.
@alternatetheory @RedOak @werehatrack But also Motorola made a lot of military and government stuff at one time, including police radios. “Car51, where are you?” “1-Adam-12” etc.

Pretty clear from that 9 hour battery life difference how irritating the lights must be.
@RedOak At this age I’m not planning any 20 hour OR 11 hour parties. maybe about 90 minutes. So I guess this would be OK for me. But I’d still yell “enough with the lights already” and “turn it down will ya!”
Didn’t notice anyone or the write up highlighting the killer feature!

@RedOak
@RedOak I am listening to the All Classical station on FM in the background as I type this. If I had purchased this speaker (I thought about it but didn’t), I would use the feature.
