Anyone have one of these? My SIL just give one to my wife and it’s remarkably difficult to suck water through. Not sure if that’s a feature or a flaw BUT IT FEELS LIKE YOUR HEAD’S GOING TO COLLAPSE.
@chienfou Oh, that’s an interesting note. And now that you say it, I feel like maybe I’ve heard that before. Ugh, guess I’ll have to keep drinking bottled water or using iodine tablets 🫤
OK, this is making me crazy - Is it good for 1000 gallons or 4000 liters because 1000 gal != 4000 liters. As someone who has gotten very ill due to parasites and/or bacteria in various countries (without even drinking the water (but would love to be able to drink the water)), and who would be tallying usages were she to buy this product, a 215-bottle difference is significant! I’m guessing the correct number is 4000 liters, since the bottle is measured in liters, but the incorrect information plastered a half dozen times on something that is actually a serious product is really bad. I would prefer not to have to guess, especially since with my luck, I’d get to bottle 3,786 and keel over. I could look on the manufacturer’s website, but that’s more effort than I feel like applying when the information allllll over the deal could be, you know, accurate.
@fondaporn
Personally I’d consider buying something like a UV-C powered bottle that would disinfect the water. Have one of those we use for camping and it seems to work very well. It’s USB-C rechargeable and does a good job of killing basically everything in the water.
@chienfou Thanks for the tip! I sometimes go to exotic places. Although I managed to get staph(!!) from food in first-world Iceland I need every bug-evading measure I can get my hands on!
@fondaporn
I’m at work (in an ER!!) but will try to remember to shoot a pic of the ones we have. Seems like we bought it on clearance in our local Walmart…
Pro Tip: In your exotic travels, if they offer an excursion to bird watch at the local landfill take a HARD pass!
@fondaporn
Okay, here is the pic I promised of the bottles I have.
These are great for killing viruses and bacteria in the water. Be aware however that they are NOT filters. If you start with muddy water with bacteria & viruses in it you will end up with muddy water with dead viruses & bacteria in it (assuming it’s clear enough for the light to penetrate all the area in the bottle).
That being said. They can serve a purpose for your “bug out” bag or travel to areas with questionable water quality.
BTW… Thanks for reminding me I have these. I have not used them in a while and they both needed to be charged.
@fondaporn
No problem … thanks for reminding me that I needed to charge these.
I was afraid I had let them run down low enough that they wouldn’t accept a charge, but I was able to revive them. On rereading the instructions I see that they have a maintenance sterilization/disinfectant feature which makes them automatically turn on briefly to keep the container sterilized. I had the lid screwed down so the safety contact allowed it to do that. That in turn allowed the bottles to totally drain the batteries overtime.I stored them with the lids loose this time so that they are unable to turn on.
I initially had bought one of these for my grandson for his scouting adventures. When I saw them as heavily discounted clearance items at the local WM I jumped on a pair for us. We don’t camp as much as we used to but we do travel to “sketchy water source” places every now and then…
I am all about the sketchy water source location Although I don’t camp But I do use a lot of emojis.
Lucky break on the clearance!! You should test one out to see how long the battery lasts. I’m wondering if the capacity diminished. Not that it’s any of my business
