I would like to repeat a previous comment of mine... Be careful with these as they can overheat/burnout your microwave. If you do small batches and follow the directions you should be fine... But again... YOU CAN BURNOUT YOUR MICROWAVE!
@awk Last time this was on sale I got inspired and made chips in the oven. After buying a mandoline, safety gloves, apple corer, and silpat sheet the price was way higher, but it works very well.
Bought this from meh last time it was ordered. Concept looks good, was able to make decent potato chips, but just take in consideration it takes a WHILE to make these in the oven even at higher settings If you have all 3 stacked, make sure to wait for more than 10 minutes to cook em even at high power setting (and I don't think the issue is with my microwave, as it heats up other things real fast). Also, cooking anything beside potatoes, goodluck :). So far ok for $8, but the time to cook is just annoying!
Only thing I like about this is the slicer that comes with it!
I thought about it. But what's the point of making potatoe chips that are fat free? the only potentially nutritious part of a potatoe chip is removed — leaving pure carbs. Ok, you might get some healthy salt, but that's about it.
Carbs function best as a way of getting fat into your system... Creamy and buttery mashed potatoes, buttered toast, buttery rice for stir fry.... Remove the fat and you have nothing that great for you left.
I was all set to checkout for $8 then I realized I cancelled my VMP yesterday... So I will not be ordering this potential impulse buy after all. Not your fault Meh, just timing...
We used these to make beet chips and it was a total win. Sliced candy cane beets, sea salt + garlic = NOM. (I hate beets, but loved the chips.)
They are not as sturdy as you would hope and can collapse onto each other, which sucks. But if you're patient and willing to try new things, this can be a handy tool.
@defibrillator Did the same damn thing. On the plus side, the slicer is REALLY sharp. Didn't feel a thing. ER Nurse: "Ok, on a scale of one to ten, how bad is the pain?" Me: "Honestly? Zero." Nurse: "What?" "Zero. VERY sharp cutter. I don't feel a thing." "... Wow."
It's funny to read some of the negative comments about these. I bought these elsewhere a couple of years ago for my wife, and they work as described. You slice the potatoes (yes, the slicer can slice a finger, ask my wife), you place them on the trays, you microwave, you get crisp chips, just like that. We've done it dozens of times. If it didn't work for you, you had ... different ... expectations.
The only qualifiers I'll note (which have been noted above) is that it does take a little longer than the instructions say, more like 7-8 minutes for three trays. But it also depends on the microwave; our old one (LG brand, same wattage) took a little longer. And most importantly, if you cook them too long, they can catch fire, and will melt the trays. This has not happened in the new microwave (Panasonic w/Inverter, I think it does a better job with even heat?).
Ordered one, then ordered another very shortly after. They were shipped separately to the same address, free with VMP shipping. Are you trying to bleed money, Meh??? Why would you ship these items separately?
@ssiemonsma If I understand you correctly you placed two separate orders, and you want to know why they were shipped separately, is that right? Perhaps Meh's system isn't designed to consolidate orders for shipping. If you have VMP why are you concerned? If YOU want to help Meh save money perhaps you should have placed one order for two items.
@eyewerks I have heard Meh loses money on VMP and aren't seeking new subscribers. So it's very silly for them not to have an order consolidation method in place already. You seem to have taken my comment too antagonostically. I don't remember directing it at you. In case you didn't notice, you can't cancel orders after a few minutes, so there is no way for me to consolidate my own order.
@ssiemonsma Where did you hear meh loses money on VMP and doesn't want new subcribers? That seem to opposite of what they said they wanted in the last newletter.
Holy crap! Got this just today and it works! Of course, watching the meh staff experiment with these things set me up to make them perfect the first time. The guys here are very impressed!

@alacrity Incredible in so many ways
@Stallion "incredible" ain't the word that springs to mind...
Got this last time. Actually makes decent chips. Remind me to make some again.
@StrangerDanger I also really like them... makes great sweet potato chips
@daxem2k I added some brown sugar to the sweet potatoes. Tasted really good.
@StrangerDanger Just a reminder--go make some chips.
Anyone who wants these can have the ones I bought last time. You pay for shipping.
@katbyter how much would that be?
Bought this months ago (February 2).
Total and complete garbage.
Avoid.
with how long it was taking to load i was sure it was a gift bag but alas its a gift set....
@sp3ar Yeah, a gift set for someone you really don't like.
Any idea on what else you could do with the slicer?? I'm thinkin' along the lines of Freddie Kruger here.....
Id like a photograph of every retard who bought this. Id pay premium.
@legaldreamteam Really??? You can't think of anything else to call people?
RTFM

BURNOUT!!!
I already have a mandoline and a vegetable peeler, and I guess I could scrounge up a thin piece of plastic if I had to. So, pass.
Hmmm.

Why not also include your own Bona Fide Genuine Product Demonstration?
@curtise look what i found! ..i think i can post this here w/o getting in trouble:-).
@one_two3456 It's linked on the homepage.
@curtise If I could find those Irk shaped chips in the grocery isles, I would so buy several bags! KuoH
@Collin1000 Womp womp. Man I suck. Heh, I really thought I had found something neat. lol
I was all set to checkout for $8 then I realized I cancelled my VMP yesterday... So I will not be ordering this potential impulse buy after all. Not your fault Meh, just timing...
I forgot to cancel my VMP yesterday and this is the first thing they offer? MEH, you now have 30 days to redeem yourselves!
@Kerig3 well if you cancel before you actually buy something, they supposedly will refund you the $5.

Its off topic, But meh please bring affordable quadcopters,
Syma X5SW FPV would be nice to begin with :)
@bluetide Check back on Monday.. I don't have inside info, but I have a strong gut feeling..
@kadagan what is wrong with your gut?
@bayportbob After eating these potato chips?!
I'm kind of at a, "meh, why not?" mental state now a days. :-)
@one_two3456 musty-dazzle-venus
Got this last time they were on sale. Fragile, and the time and power used to microwave enough chips to be satisfying is not worth the effort.
Well, Mr. Toon is right about the memories. I remember how my son cut his thumb on the mandolin slicer and bled all over the kitchen.
Wow."
Just got one ,cant wait to get this home and start making some gourmet chips got to believe the mandolin alone is worth 8 bucks ty MEH
$7 for the potato peeler?!!!!!

@StrangerDanger Snapster posted that they have too many VMPs for their business model
@ssiemonsma They aren't really set up to combine orders.
Holy crap! Got this just today and it works! Of course, watching the meh staff experiment with these things set me up to make them perfect the first time. The guys here are very impressed!
Finally got a chance to use this. Surprisingly easy & tasty chips. Perfect if you love apple chips, as I do.
