Look Smart Trivia: Vice-Presidential Mashup
8We’re doing something a little different today. Instead of five images, each with one answer, here’s one image with five answers. I’ve unskillfully blended five past U.S. Vice-Presidents into one unholy uberVeep. Name the five VPs and the features they contributed to this unseeable abomination - and if you do it before anybody else, you’ll nab a $5 Meh coupon. It’ll be a just reward for staring so deeply into this Vice-Presidential abyss. Some clues: none of these guys ever became President, and the background doesn’t count, but the suit does. Insert signoff catchphrase here!
Speaking of clues, it took one to get @stolicat over the line in our Music Videos of the '90s quiz, but once they had that one, they were on a runaway train (to victory), never going back (to defeat):
- Soul Asylum - “Runaway Train”
- Shania Twain - “That Don’t Impress Me Much”
- Weezer - “Undone (The Sweater Song)”
- REM - “Shiny Happy People”
- Ice Cube - “It Was A Good Day”

Ironically the background seems to be from a photo of Gerald Ford.
@cinoclav Yeah, that FireFox plugin is pretty good huh? It got it on the second image search place suggested.
@cinoclav And I don’t know, why do you think a Gerald Ford result is ironic? ha
@therealjrn Who needs a plugin? Right clicking in Chrome gives you the ‘Search Google for image’ option.
It’s ironic because he stated none of the VP’s used ever became President. But the base photo is exactly that.
@cinoclav hm…I guess I’m not hip enough to understand irony.
@therealjrn You prefer paradoxical? Although he said the background doesn’t count, I find it humorous that it’s a background of exactly the opposite of what we’re looking for.
@cinoclav Ok, paradoxical I get. gotcha
The eyes look like Sean Connery. Sean Connery wasn’t a VP was he?
@therealjrn I think either the eyes or hair might be the VP of the president who defeated the (non-elected) VP of the President who resigned.
It was a great clue, but I also had a little nudge from the ethers that I am grateful for. But I now remember more from the 90s than I had ever thought would be necessary.
@stolicat
I think the first step is breaking down what pieces of the picture are unique. I assume it’s the hair, eyes, facial hair, suit, and the face/nose itself. Any thoughts?
@cinoclav That nose looks a little hinky.
@therealjrn Yep. I meant to include that with the face. Fixed above. He’s obviously had a nose job!
Charles W. Fairbanks – Facial hair
Nelson Rockefeller – Top of head hair, ears
Walter Mondale – Eyes, eyebrows
Henry Wallace – Nose
John N Garner – Suit
@Limewater looks good
i had three…too slow on my part
@Limewater Exactly what I had. (But I didn’t want to post it for fear of raising hackles.)
@jaybird I think there’s a strong probability I am wrong on at least one of these. I am less than 30% sure on John N. Garner. I never did actually find a photo with that collar and tie combination.
@Limewater Lol - Funny, I said the same thing about Garner. He definitely favored that collar type and the pin at the tie knot. Very similar look here: https://picryl.com/media/ranking-members-of-house-ways-and-means-comm-left-john-n-garner-of-texas-democrat
@Limewater If I wasn’t so sure about your answers I wouldn’t post this.

@cinoclav I think when you post early you are denying others the pleasure of finding them out for themselves. Not everybody works at the same pace.
@therealjrn Which is exactly why I waited and didn’t post early. If @Limewater wasn’t correct I wouldn’t have posted anything. It’s certainly no worse than posting “BZZZZT” or “You’re verrry “cold” on that guess” or the ‘Windows 95’ hints you posted on the music video trivia. If I wanted to be an asshole, I could have posted all my answers, knowing I’m not eligible to win this one. I’m not, so I didn’t.
@cinoclav Of course, you cherry pick the very seldom instances of my posts…admit it…you’ve got problems being a showy showoff.
NBD to me, nameste all that. I’ll go back to my sub-sub-lurking in the Trivia thread, as I mentioned before, I don’t post enough to have a vote on who is acting like an ass in the thread.
I won my one, and I won it legitimately, that’s enough for me.
@therealjrn Sorry you feel that way. And I’m truly sorry if anyone is upset just because I shared a link that confirms a correct answer that was already posted. If I was trying to show off I could have posted all my answers (regardless of whether they were correct) as soon as I found each one.
@Limewater I actually did find the photo of him in that suit, so you’re good
I was anticipating this being 5 pictures with 2 VPs apiece and thought “no way I know 10 vice-presidents by sight” (especially with the added “never was president” stipulation).
Given that limitation, can I even recognize 5?
Biden
Quayle
Pence
Gore
Agnew
Mondale
I just squeak by. Of course I know some others, but couldn’t pick them out of a lineup. Even with the popularity of “Hamilton”, I don’t have a clue to what Aaron Burr looks like. I do know that George Clinton (a VP for both Jefferson and Madison) looks nothing like the one of Parliament-Funkadelic fame.
Mondale’s eyes are the only thing I recognize.
I only get Walter Mondales eyes.
@Redbird1325 “I only get Walter Mondale eyes” was, of course, the first draft of this song from 1981: Bette Davis Eyes
