It's Another ACraigL Shirt Giveaway! [unofficial]
8Giveaway time!
Now that we’re past the holidays (and an extremely long Mehrathon), it seemed like a good opportunity. Usual rules apply but here’s a refresher (at least what I can recall from memory):
- I’ve got two new fun entries for the Tattoo derby, I’d love to get a vote on them if you have a sec. HERE and HERE
- Conversation/replies are encouraged but only top-level comments will be considered as entries.
- I’ll need your address if you’re selected as a winner. Even though I ALREADY KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE. You’ll whisper it to me, which makes that last sentence sound even creepier. Perfect.
- Any woot shirt is fair game, but something from my catalog is always appreciated.
- I’ll select at least 2 winners this round.
- Winners will be announced one week from today, 2/13/24
I think that’s it! Good luck. Oh, wait, a topic. Since it’s a tattoo derby, let us know if you have one (or more) and any significance it has for you. Extra ACraigL points for a photo. If you don’t have a tattoo, would you consider getting one?
Or just let me know what you think of my tattoo designs .

I voted for your shirts for you. My tattoo is on the heart your ink for irk thread. It’s significance is irks
@Kidsandliz haha. Strong motivation there.
@ACraigL Yup and I made it very tiny and very hidden. Also it is likely to wear off due to all the friction on the bottom of the feet. I wouldn’t want one for life so to speak so when I read if you put them there likely they will eventually vanish that was a game changer for me with respect for ink for irks.
@ACraigL @Kidsandliz mmmm interesting. I have pretty thick callouses on my heals. Never occured to me as a way to game the system lol.
@ACraigL @unksol Oh I didn’t game the system. It’s a real tattoo and the bottom of the toe is a pretty painful place to get one.
@ACraigL @Kidsandliz I didn’t say you did. Bottom of the foot happens. Unlikely to to penetrate and likely to wear off eventually. Sounds like a technical win. No need to defend it. If you want to be a masochist though… I just thought it was a good way to win the game
@ACraigL @unksol I just wanted irks and nothing for life so yes a win.
/showme a colorful balloon dog tattoo that I would want to get
@mediocrebot Um, no. That’s not it
@heartny @mediocrebot
What is IT then, what do you have in mind for a balloon tattoo? You could draw a pic…
@heartny @Lynnerizer @mediocrebot that thing looks like cancer
I have a bumblebee on my arm, surrounded by cyan, magenta, yellow, and black. I work in printing. 🩵🩷
@kostia
Photo? I want to see pics please!
@Lynnerizer This is from me meeting a like-minded person last year. I’m the one on the right!
@kostia @Lynnerizer I did a special-print shirt for someone once which said
What part of C=110 M=110 Y=110 K=110 did you not understand?
It was done in black glitter ink on a black shirt.
@kostia @Lynnerizer @werehatrack As someone that had to do color seps for a long time, I appreciate this very much!
@ACraigL @werehatrack I almost got this!
@kostia @Lynnerizer @werehatrack
I know CMY[K] vs RGB, but I’m much more familiar with the RGB of computers (which are often recorded as 0-255 or 0-100%).
From what I can gather about CMYK values, I think they’re percents. So this would be 110% of each, so basically “dial it up to 11” on each? (making it theoretically blacker than black)
Have I correctly overexplained the joke?
(If not, I’d love to learn the correct meaning.)
(In my quick research for this, I also found something talking about adding CMY to the K for a “rich” black or grey; that one is new to me, but kinda makes sense.)
@Lynnerizer @werehatrack @xobzoo Yes, I think “none more black” a la Spinal Tap was the joke.
As for your understanding: Pretty much. Google “halftone screen.” The measure is a percentage not of how much of the total is each ink, but how dense the dots are for each ink. Unlike RGB, CMYK is additive, so higher numbers mean darker.
I’m not personally a fan of rich black, but on some kinds of paper it does give you a “nicer” look. It’s very subjective!
@kostia @Lynnerizer @werehatrack Of course! I don’t know how I hadn’t thought of that. Well, I guess because I’ve never actually worked with halftoning (in a printing context), so it wasn’t loaded in my working memory.
Thanks!
@kostia @Lynnerizer @werehatrack @xobzoo
So not pining for Vantablack, I guess? (Same here.)
@kostia I LOVE IT! The watercolor effect/style is one of my favorites! You didn’t meet that like minded person by accident. Jus sayen… It’s beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
@Kyeh I’d like to see Vantablack in person. I’m curious.
@kostia @Lynnerizer @werehatrack @xobzoo This is Spinal Tap is my favorite movie of all time. Not sure that was helping me get the CMYK joke, but I appreciate the tie in all the same.
@kostia @Kyeh This is my exposure to Vantablack — they did some testing and developed their own “blacker than black” (and then explained its purpose/usefulness in physics).
(and while I was trying to find that video again, I ran across a clip of a BMW painted in Vantablack, which just looked so weird)
@xobzoo Okay, that was the kind of video my teenager watches for fun, but I have to admit it’s interesting. Seeing the other two squares just disappear was so strange. (And about the BMW: cars painted in any matte color always look weird, black no exception!)
I’ve got a little Irk who gets me big Irks; well, at least they come in big boxes!
https://meh.com/forum/topics/time-to-heart-your-ink-for-irk#65befe18019249fe5ffa03a8
@Kyeh YAY for the photo! And for the cutest IRK ever! I hadn’t seen the Valentine’s version yet!
@Kyeh Broke my heart when they stopped allowing new irk ink. I would have one!
@Lynnerizer Thanks!
@kostia Bummer - I decided kind of hastily; it’s my first and only tattoo but I’m really glad I got it - and I’ve gotten quite fond of the little guy. Your bumblebee is beautiful. Why didn’t you go for the meh one - just too busy at the time?
@Kyeh I just never got around to it, and then I didn’t see the warning that they were going to stop allowing new ones. My own silly fault.
@kostia Bummer.
@kostia @Kyeh
There’s a meh bee?
@kostia @Star2236
Hah! That’s great.
@Kyeh @Star2236 That’s what it is if I can get free IRKs from it!
@kostia @Star2236
@kostia @Kyeh You guys are talking about the beautiful bee… Did I miss the picture, where can I see it? Looks like I’ve got a BIG case of FOMO!
@kostia @Lynnerizer Above! She was answering you!

I vote for Agents of Destruction! It could be the Logo for an entire franchise a la Agents if Shield !
@poids This is funny. I’m actually binging AoS right now! And will move on to Agent Carter after that. I saw both when they originally aired, but it’s almost like watching for the first time again. I don’t think it inspired me, but maybe?
@ACraigL @poids AoS was quiet good. At least I liked it. It had to survive on network tv vs Gisney just oversaturating the market in every possible direction they can come up with
I do really like the cat one. Voted, but don’t think I should be in the running since I won one last time, someone else’s turn.
Oh, and I didn’t answer the tattoo question.
No tattoos for me. I’ve changed my interests, style, and hobbies so many times in my life, that’s probably a good thing.
The only time I’ve come close to getting a tattoo is for meh actually. I was a razor’s edge away from getting one last couple of times they opened up tattoos sign-ups on here.
I don’t have one and wouldn’t consider getting one. Just not my thing. I will give you some votes though!
@Macoland I’m the same. I really appreciate both the talent to give and the commitment to get one, but I don’t feel it’s for me.
I don’t post often but I did vote for your catshirt. My cat destroyed some speakers. I don’t think she liked the bass.
@yeld I’m all about that bass. Thanks for voting/posting!
@yeld in my experience cats are fond of most fish. I will admit I’ve not actually offered them bass.
I think they would be all about that bass. No minnows. And as I made that joke… Some had to have already
I voted! No tattoos here, but there are some amazing designs and artists out there. As with most things, I live vicariously through others. You have quite the catalog! I love your horror designs. My daughter loves her Crystal Lake Corporate Retreats shirt.
@shalynrut Wow, that goes WAY back. That was probably the first shirt of mine I considered “successful”.
I always enjoy your shirt design. The cat/agent of destruction one is great.
I have no tattoos. I’ve thought about the idea of getting one and it’s just not something I’m interested in for me.
No tats, I never wanted any. Back in the '70s (I think) Larson or someone like him did a one-panel comic showing two old dudes in a futuristic setting, with blurry and faded marking on their arms, one saying “I see you made an ass of yourself in the '70s, too.”
@werehatrack That reminds me of a substitute teacher I had in middle school (back in the 90’s; I’m a young old man) — one day we had some extra time in class and he talked to us about life choices. I don’t know/remember what his career had been, but at that time I think he was retired. (therefore “retirement age” which seems so extremely old when you’re a kid)
Getting to the point, he showed us a tattoo on his arm that he’d made himself. I think it was intended to be a cougar or something, but did not start its life drawn very well. By the time we saw it, as faded ink on aged skin, it was basically just a blob.
He did not love it and wished he hadn’t done it.
Which is not to say that tattoos are inherently bad.
He just wished to impress upon us the importance of making wise choices. And the idea that what you think is cool now won’t necessarily be cool for the rest of your life.
Fwiw, I’d already decided against tattoos for myself. The permanence of it was too much for me, and I’d never been very fascinated by drawing on myself.
There are some that I think are pretty neat, but they’re not for me. (lots of things in life are not for me)
@xobzoo Yep - when my kids came of the age that they could get a tattoo without parental permission, I didn’t make a big deal over trying to dissuade them. I simply said that getting a tattoo can become its own punishment. (Sort of like an IRK, I guess.)
I have 2 tattoos. Ones a butterfly on my shoulder that now looks more like a bat since while getting my second one the guy refilled it in but not very carefully. I also have a tramp stamp of a design I drew in high school. I really, really want to get another but I can’t bc I get blood clots every time I go off my medicine.
I think a white tattoo would be awesome if it would actually stay white and not fade. I’ve wanted one for 20 years way before it became a trendy/cool thing to have.
POKER! JOKER! NOT MEDIOCRE! AWESOME!
I have one tattoo and I post photos of it here once in a while. Then free stuff comes in the mail.
Also keep up with the cat shirts, I like them!
@sammydog01 It’s not my go to generally. I don’t mind cats but my exposure is limited to them since I’m allergic. So it feels like I’m pandering sometimes. I do like the current design though.
@ACraigL My favorite shirt search term is axe but I like cats too.
This is my first of many to come. I also had a bumbling bee added with meh spelled in its buzzy trail which I have yet to photograph because life. I will try to make it happen tonight but no promises because I may fall asleep before the new deal even posts. This one was an ode to my relationship with my mom. We’re very close and we’re both avid gardeners. She’s the president of the master gardeners association where she is in Louisiana and is extremely passionate about flora and fauna but more specifically pollinators. Growing up we were inundated by butterflies, bees and hummingbirds because she always planted the most amazing gardens. Anyway. I’m off to kip. I’m trying to make two jobs and a family happen and it’s definitely getting to me.
@sillyheathen That’s beautiful, and so is it’s meaning! There’s nothing more special than a good relationship with your mom.
I’m in for the shirt contest but I don’t have any tattoos, sorry. Will never get one either.
I voted! Good luck! I’m partial to the cat T’s. “Agent Of Destruction” lives at my house but he only comes out between 3-6am when he thinks we’re sleeping!
I don’t have any tattoos but I most definitely would have if I hadn’t been so scared of my mother before medical issues kept me from getting them. I’ve done plenty of things against her wishes but I saw the way she hated her brothers ink and THAT was enough to keep me from getting any. My niece, her granddaughter, is 26 and she has tattoos that she’s still managed to hide from her! Summertime, long sleeve in 80-90° weather… I couldn’t do it! Lol
I have done a few drawings though (some as far back as HS) that people asked me if they could use as a tattoo. I never understood why they’d want MY feelings and thoughts on their bodies.
I probably could have been a tattoo artist but I chose to be a caregiver instead.
I don’t have any of my original art/drawings on my phone but for those who like pictures as much as I do I’ll try to post one of my favorite tattoos that I would’ve wanted if I could. I voted! @kyeh I thought of you when I saw this!
@Lynnerizer Oh, I LOVE that! You’re spot-on, if I were getting another that would really tempt me! Funny thing, too - I was just looking at lamps exactly like that one on Amazon yesterday!
I would love to see some of your artwork sometime if you ever feel like showing it.
Voted. I have a flask tattoo for the Ink for Irks; it’s my second. My first tattoo is a bee on my chest that I got a little over a year ago; my then-17-year-old wanted mother-kid tattoos. They like bees and sunflowers, and I’m not terribly into flowers, so they got a bee with a sunflower, and I just got the bee.
I’m in for the shirt contest. The Agent of Destruction shirt is great and got my vote. I don’t have any tattoos because I hate pain. I can’t imagine paying someone to give me painful scars.
@Fuzzalini I was just talking to coworker about that. She described it as “good pain”. Which I can understand to an extent. I think it mostly depends on where you get them.
@ACraigL @Fuzzalini The underside of the toe hurts. There are “body maps” out there that highlight where it hurts to get them the most and least.
@ACraigL @Fuzzalini
Mine, on the lower side of my torso, was just kind of “buzzy” feeling, not really painful. Getting my armpit hair laser-zapped hurt a whole lot more!
I’ve always said I don’t feel strongly enough about anything to get it permanently inked on my body. My brother recently said he thought the same thing, but then realized that he’s been a fan of some things his whole adult life, so why wouldn’t those be tattoo worthy? I also like that tattoos have gotten more refined looking; I’ve never liked the thick lines I often see, and they just look a lot less, IDK, clunky?
@lisagd I think they can be really attractive. For someone else though. Not me
No tattoos, and no interest in them.
@FreePasta Not even this one?
@ACraigL @FreePasta Wow, I don’t even know what to start thinking about that uncooked spaghetti. Should I be impressed that they spelled it right?
I assume it means something good to the person who got it, but I think it looks like it was designed to cover up a scar or something else. (and I thought uncooked spaghetti noodles were less wobbly) /shrug
@ACraigL @FreePasta @xobzoo Yes, looks more like uncooked rice noodles to me. I bet they feel silly they wanted a tattoo of uncooked spaghetti but got rice noodles instead.
@FreePasta @OnionSoup @xobzoo
Any tattoo that requires the words AND an arrow pointing to said tattoo probably isn’t a very visually descriptive image.
Good discussion here!
Reminder the contest is open until Tuesday if you still would like to enter!
@ACraigL Can my cats enter? The females each have a small tattoo on their belly to tell others they have been fixed.
@Kidsandliz Do they wear tshirts?
@ACraigL They sleep on them and sometimes tunnel into them. Does that count?
@ACraigL @Kidsandliz my cats do that too… But only clean tshirts. They want to make sure I’m carrying their hair with me everywhere I go.
One I got in Vegas. Thankfully even years later there are NO REGERTS! Tattoos are one of those things that happen in Vegas but def. don’t stay there!
And we have our winners!! Congrats to:
@sammydog01
@gt0163c
Please whisper me your :
Thanks for all the support and great engagement in this thread. A reminder I have a new shirt up for voting, if you’re inclined to do so:
Rock & Roll Will Never Die
https://shirt.woot.com/derby/entry/133774/rock-roll-will-never-die
Congrats again to the winners!
@sammydog01 @gt0163c Just a quick note to both of you; Shirt.Woot has weird ideas about what cut of shirt is “classic” vs “fitted” in the women’s sizes; consult their size charts closely before placing your request(s) if you’ll be selecting from that side of the aisle.
@ACraigL No way, thank you! I’ll go take a look at your shirts, you have some cool ones.
Congratulations winners!
