I’m making cocktails. Join me!
12I mean…don’t actually try to come over. But metaphorically join me by describing what you’re making tonight.
My favorite summer drink for 2019 has been the French 75.
2 oz gin
1/2 oz lemon juice
1 oz simple syrup
(Shake and chill and shake and chill)
Add 2-5 oz of champagne, depending on how boozy you feel. (Or, if for some weird reason your valet/poolboy doesn’t keep champagne on hand, any chilled white wine or rosé would be fine).
Serve with a twist.

That sounds amazing!
@tinamarie1974 it was amazing. Thankfully there’s a pizza place around the corner…brb
I’m making a cup of coffee from my pour-over machine.
@therealjrn add a splash of kahlua, you’re good to go
@therealjrn @UncleVinny I bought Bailey’s after I got mine. Forgot how good that was.
@therealjrn @UncleVinny @ybmuG My favorite is the coconut cream rum from St Lucia…OMG the only time I ever drink ‘creamer’ in my morning coffee is when we are there and it’s available…
@chienfou I don’t even like coconut and that sounds preeeeeetty good.
@UncleVinny It truly is… just the right blend of creamy and coconutty !
@therealjrn That’s what I was gonna say… still coffee. @Chienfou I often use sugar free coconut syrup in my coffee.
Half good Canadian whiskey, half water. Better yet, forget the water. Does need ice though.
@Teripie ice is just hard water…
@chienfou @Teripie “stubborn” water, we called it back in my schoolin’ days
@Teripie Go Pendleron Whiskey!
@sicc574 @Teripie a friend brought over a bottle of Pendleton whiskey a few years ago, and between the two of us we finished it. So cozy. The kind of whiskey that gives you a big old hug and says how bout you just finish the bottle, eh?
@Teripie “good” Canadian whiskey?
@Teripie @UncleVinny The whole city of Pendleton is kinda like that(especially durring Round-Up and Whiskey Fest), it just kinda makes you think, “what else would I do right now but have a good time and get drunk?”
@Teripie @unksol Isn’t all Canadian Whiskey “Half good”?
@mml666 @Teripie is it all half scotch?
I’m just sipping a spiked seltzer right now. I was thinking about making a pina colada in a bit though, since we have all the stuff.
@Pony spiked with what, tho? SPIKED WITH WHAT?!
@UncleVinny Sugar alcohol, near as I can figure? Whatever it is, I like it because it’s nice and light, and I can drink a few of them without getting hammered.
Finishing up my 16 hour day and will probably go home and sip a ginger orange liqueur from the bottle I made last winter.
(Well, not actually from the bottle, I will use a brandy snifter…I’m not an animal !)
@chienfou yep… that’s what I did while posting a few more notes here and over here
@chienfou tell me stories of your orange ginger liqueur technique? I’m all ears.
@chienfou I found a cheap raspberry liqueur that taste just like kiddy cough syrup. I’m crazy for it, but not as a normal drink. It’s one of those things that you pass around when there’s a bunch of friends here, and they’re all feeling real good.
@UncleVinny Oops… I have been meaning to answer this but keep forgetting. I am work but will try to pull the link or post the recipe if it’s from my (old) liqueur making book in the next couple of days when I remember to check my home PC. (yes, I don’t store all my shit in the cloud!)
I honeymooned in Hawaii. Every year around my anniversary I buy a bottle of dark rum for old-time sake. Tonight I mixed some dark rum with coconut water, guava juice, and mango juice. Takes me back to paradise
@MiaSanMeh sounds yummy.
@chienfou @MiaSanMeh anniversary rum stories ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I am not drinking it but some friends and I came up with a tasty recipe
4 parts Rum Chata, two parts whipped cream vodka and one part American Honey
Amazing!!
@tinamarie1974 …ah… the TM’74…
@chienfou @tinamarie1974 geeeeezuz I’m all over that like icky on an irk.
@chienfou it is my signature cocktail. It goes down smooth and before you know it, you cannot walk a straight line
@chienfou @tinamarie1974 walking a straight line is overrated.
I’ve been reading about RumChata, and I have visions of sugarplums dancing in my head. I might whip up a batch myself with the sweat of my brow, instead of buying a bottle. Handmade = angel made, my momma always said
@chienfou @UncleVinny if you try it, I want to know what you think!!!
And just be warned it took out a good buddy of mine who is a very large fireman. Poor baby I had to hold him upright for a while!
@chienfou @tinamarie1974 RIP!
@chienfou @tinamarie1974 The real question is does it taste the same coming back up as it did going down. That’s an awful lot of sweetness. I learned my lesson about drinking sweet easy-goin’ cocktails in my youth after tangoing with one too many Hurricanes. Nothing like having to grab onto the green shag carpet to keep from spinning off the face of the earth.
@chienfou @LaVikinga good question, I have never dealt with "two way traffic’ on this particular cocktail.
@chienfou @tinamarie1974 I experienced it with some awful, trendy-at-the-time liquor called Goldschläger. I remember throwing it up and being amused I could still taste the cinnamon sweet grossness, and look…it made the water in the toilet all sparkly.
Never mix your poisons, my friends, at least not on an empty stomach.
@LaVikinga @tinamarie1974 funny how some liquors become ‘a thing’. When I was (way) younger and lived in Boulder with a couple of Dutch roommates we would go to the giant liquor store in town and buy some Jagermeister now and then for our personal bar (we had a very large and eclectic assortment of stuff, not your typical ‘college drinking’ crap). When you bought a bottle you could put your initials in the dust on the next bottle and it would still be there in 6 months when you went back to replace the one you had finished… Our typical weekly budget was one guy bought groceries, one bought liquor, one had the week off, then it rotated through the cycle. It worked well for us…
Some time (years) later when Jager became hot shit I was amused to find people ‘discovering’ it.
I still have a very large and eclectic bar at my house that includes libations from multiple countries that takes up an entire set of cabinets with pull out drawers on one side of my kitchen. Many of the bottles have been there for several years, like the Pisco from Peru or the Greek Metaxa…
@chienfou @tinamarie1974 That sounds like my Dad’s bar when I was a kid. Weird things from all over. There was a particular bottle of Creme de Menthe I remember we had from when I was single digits (used to get a bit poured over vanilla or chocolate ice cream as kids). That bottle was still in his bar when I got married and moved away. Eventually the bottles disappeared, or had aged/changed enough to have to be thrown away rather than risk drinking. You know, there still might be a bottle of Kahlua from the 70’s floating around his house.
That’s a lot like what I’ve been drinking this summer, except with lime instead of lemon and tonic water instead of simple syrup and no champagne (or other sparkling wine, since champagne is expensive for mixed drinks; I use something like cava or a California sparkling wine for mimosas).
@craigthom flexibility is a noble virtue. Some may say ‘tis the noblest virtue, but I say that smacks of inflexibility
Hic.
Just remember everything in moderation especially moderation!
Been having some Tito’s in OJ because it’s simple.
But it’s just a warmup for POG & coconut rummmmm…
@2many2no Tito! That sounds friendly.
Glass is finished and so am I… night y’all Enjoy your libations.
I’m easy - I started with a Goose Island IPA and moved on to Fat Tire.
I’ll actually come over. We can have the bottle of fine VSOP I swiped from a bourgie, while plotting their demise. If that doesn’t work for you, I can bring my old favorite: a Heineken mini-keg, mead, and Limoncello served in those huge 55-ounce glasses they sold on this site.
@ShotgunX limoncello, yum!
@moonhat @ShotgunX
I actually made limoncello from the Meyer lemons we grew on our lemon tree. It was fun (and easy) to make… even more fun (and easy) to drink!
@ShotgunX I’m not that’ll be enough Limoncello, but ok.
I made a bunch of syrup from prickly pear cactus fruit (it’s bright red if you are wondering). So I’m making a variation on an Alabama Slammer that I call an Arizona Slammer:
Ice, southern comfort, cactus fruit syrup, then fill with sprite.
I was floating down the Wenatchee river with girlfriends while enjoying many cold ones out of the cooler… so fun
Seen zero rooster tails. Disappointed
Well, it’s 12:43 pm on Sunday (Saturday for me since I work Tues-Sat), and I just got back from brunch about 30 minutes ago. I had mimosas with brunch, and now am enjoying Wild Turkey 101 with Dr. B (Dr. Pepper knockoff made by Texas grocery king HEB) and grenadine. I’m also playing poker, browsing the web (thus here) and watching the Little League World Series.
@Labuda that’s… That’s not how days work
@Labuda @unksol Sure it is. Time is relative… I work 7on/7off (OK not lately… more like 7on/7on) so my 7 days off in a row are like a mini-vacation every other week.
Thanks, @chienfou; I agree. Mimosas go with brunch!
Oh, and I won the poker tournament. $$$
@Labuda Congrats! The winnings will help defray the mimosa expense!
Next time you are out try a Bellini if you haven’t already. Great upgrade during the summer.
I don’t know how it’s made, but there’s a great little dive bar called Harvey’s Wineburger on 16th St here in Phoenix, and they have this awesome bananarama shooter … Cream of banana and ??? Soooo good!
VAN GOGH! MANGO! TANGO! AWESOME!
