I’ve been reading about RumChata, and I have visions of sugarplums dancing in my head. I might whip up a batch myself with the sweat of my brow, instead of buying a bottle. Handmade = angel made, my momma always said

@chienfou @tinamarie1974 The real question is does it taste the same coming back up as it did going down. That’s an awful lot of sweetness. I learned my lesson about drinking sweet easy-goin’ cocktails in my youth after tangoing with one too many Hurricanes. Nothing like having to grab onto the green shag carpet to keep from spinning off the face of the earth.

@chienfou @LaVikinga good question, I have never dealt with "two way traffic’ on this particular cocktail.

@chienfou @tinamarie1974 I experienced it with some awful, trendy-at-the-time liquor called Goldschläger. I remember throwing it up and being amused I could still taste the cinnamon sweet grossness, and look…it made the water in the toilet all sparkly.
Never mix your poisons, my friends, at least not on an empty stomach.

@LaVikinga @tinamarie1974 funny how some liquors become ‘a thing’. When I was (way) younger and lived in Boulder with a couple of Dutch roommates we would go to the giant liquor store in town and buy some Jagermeister now and then for our personal bar (we had a very large and eclectic assortment of stuff, not your typical ‘college drinking’ crap). When you bought a bottle you could put your initials in the dust on the next bottle and it would still be there in 6 months when you went back to replace the one you had finished… Our typical weekly budget was one guy bought groceries, one bought liquor, one had the week off, then it rotated through the cycle. It worked well for us…
Some time (years) later when Jager became hot shit I was amused to find people ‘discovering’ it.
I still have a very large and eclectic bar at my house that includes libations from multiple countries that takes up an entire set of cabinets with pull out drawers on one side of my kitchen. Many of the bottles have been there for several years, like the Pisco from Peru or the Greek Metaxa…

@chienfou @tinamarie1974 That sounds like my Dad’s bar when I was a kid. Weird things from all over. There was a particular bottle of Creme de Menthe I remember we had from when I was single digits (used to get a bit poured over vanilla or chocolate ice cream as kids). That bottle was still in his bar when I got married and moved away. Eventually the bottles disappeared, or had aged/changed enough to have to be thrown away rather than risk drinking. You know, there still might be a bottle of Kahlua from the 70’s floating around his house.

@chienfou I found a cheap raspberry liqueur that taste just like kiddy cough syrup. I’m crazy for it, but not as a normal drink. It’s one of those things that you pass around when there’s a bunch of friends here, and they’re all feeling real good.

@UncleVinny Oops… I have been meaning to answer this but keep forgetting. I am work but will try to pull the link or post the recipe if it’s from my (old) liqueur making book in the next couple of days when I remember to check my home PC. (yes, I don’t store all my shit in the cloud!)

I actually made limoncello from the Meyer lemons we grew on our lemon tree. It was fun (and easy) to make… even more fun (and easy) to drink!

@Labuda @unksol Sure it is. Time is relative… I work 7on/7off (OK not lately… more like 7on/7on) so my 7 days off in a row are like a mini-vacation every other week.
