I know it was you HBO Max. You broke my heart.
8Earlier this month HBO Max introduced a Hulu-style “with advertising” subscription option. For $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year you can now watch HBO Max content constantly interrupted by annoying commercial breaks.
Among the things you do not have access to with the new option:
No “watch offline” option. Streaming only.
All content is limited to 1080p, even the content which appears in 4k on the ad-free plan.
No access to Warner “same day premier” films.
There does not seem to be any commitment to how much time will be spent on ads or how many interruptions per hour.
Although HBO Max has not increased the ad-free rates at this time, my crystal ball tells me that’s inevitable.
<sigh>

“Maximum 4 minutes of ads per hour”… At least to start with. They apparently originally wanted more but decided it wouldn’t work to attract users. Also, there are no ad interruptions during HBO-branded shows.
Still crappy overall.
@curtise A large portion of content I watch on HBO Max isn’t HBO Originals, but from other sources. Mainstream films and shows garnered from the Warner library.
I’m going to have to seriously consider locking in the current 1-year ad-free rate. My AMEX has an offer for a $25 statement credit with a $99.99+ spend at HBOMax.com. Currently a 1 year sub is $150, so a year for $125 (=$10.42/mo) isn’t unreasonable I guess. Right now I hop in and out of the monthly sub so I can binge an entire season at once rather than waiting for the weekly episodes for the HBO Originals.
@curtise @ruouttaurmind Isn’t WB owned by Disney? So wouldn’t Warner pictures be more on D+?
@mike808 Warner owns HBO and is owned by AT&T.
@mike808 @ruouttaurmind actually, they’re not any more…
AT&T Decided to offload Warner media, and Then sold Warner Media to Discovery.
no wait I mean Warner media “merged” with Discovery.

@mike808 @ruouttaurmind
HBO Max? What channel is that on?
Oh just now seeing the Godfather reference in the banner. @ruouttaurmind Very Nice!
I have no comment about HBOMax except that it sounds alot like Cinemax.
@jimmyd103 Makes sense since HBO owns Skinemax.
