I know it was you HBO Max. You broke my heart.

Earlier this month HBO Max introduced a Hulu-style “with advertising” subscription option. For $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year you can now watch HBO Max content constantly interrupted by annoying commercial breaks.

Among the things you do not have access to with the new option:

No “watch offline” option. Streaming only.
All content is limited to 1080p, even the content which appears in 4k on the ad-free plan.
No access to Warner “same day premier” films.

There does not seem to be any commitment to how much time will be spent on ads or how many interruptions per hour.

Although HBO Max has not increased the ad-free rates at this time, my crystal ball tells me that’s inevitable.
