I also did that project that made its way around fb where you have everyone at Thanksgiving sign the tablecloth, then embroider the signatures - a new color each year - so you have an ongoing record of your friends and family at Thanksgiving.
@Thumperchick I own a “Friendship Quilt” (that’s what they were called, back in the day) from the 1930s or so. I bought it at an auction because I couldn’t bear the idea of it being pieced out and destroyed. Here’s a picture of it.
Hmmm… Were the hexagons put there intentionally or are the just a result of how the stars were made?
(I’ll rephrase this later when I can possible think.)
@PlacidPenguin The hexagons are a natural result of the stars, yes. There’s a name for that pattern, I just don’t recall it. I’m not much of a quilter.
@Shrdlu that is beautiful. A close family friend made one for the baby. She worked with my family to have friends and family across the country sign a square. It is so wonderful.
@Thumperchick I love those stockings! So much cooler than anything you find in a store. I never thought to make my own. I’m not a great sewer, but that can’t be terribly hard. I’m going to keep my eyes peeled for some fabric with that project in mind. The only stocking I have was a gift from my ex mother in law, so I haven’t put it out for years.
Since it was a rough year with medical bills, hubby and I have decided it is a craft year only. Can buy minimal supplies, but most of the gift has to be from stuff we have. I think it is a trick to clean out my craft room, honestly!
I have embroidered 15 stockings for my co-workers because there were too many complaints about our area not looking festive enough at work.
I embroidered an Elsa stocking and a Dory stocking for my co-workers two children. Nice little hindu kids that I am corrupting with American materialism
My daughter and I hit goodwill and bought a plethora of teacups and we are making candles in china teacups.
Hubby is making yard size yatzee kits…he is not happy with the quality of wood, so we shall see how it goes.
We painted pinecones and added hangers and bells to make ornaments.
And check out Lisaviolet’s cutting machine thread for paper stuff…
@mikibell I need a steady diet of pictures to survive. If I don’t get them, I end up at JoAnn’s and @humper starts mumbling about all of the craft crap in the house.
@PlacidPenguin Good thing I ran across the marathon tonight, because otherwise I wouldn’t have known that a new episode is going to air on Christmas night.
Well i bought a lathe and made several wooden snowman ornaments. Sadly they are all wrapped up now so no pic. Just imagine tiny wooden snowmen in top hats.
@MSticklefeather Thanks to Thumperchick for bringing out the crafts theme at Christmas time. I can hardly wait to see what comes for Oma from the grandkids in the way of craft gifts. One granddaughter shows serious interest in artsy craftsly.
I made a few cast bronze jewelry gifts, but no craftsy stuff. Hoping the little amethysts, garnets and low grade emerald cabs I ordered will get here in time to add them to the bracelets, but today and tomorrow are the last mail deliveries before Christmas, so I’ll probably have to give them as is with a promise of later bejewelment. If I get them out to wrap them later I’ll post a pic.
I made crib-sized quilts for my niece and nephew (sister’s kids). I was able to get both quilts done in a week even though I had to go to work most days. First quilts in a decade. (Should probably make one for my niece who lives in Korea, but I hate to think what postage would be. Also have had packages get lost en route.)
Machine-pieced and -quilted. I hand-sewed the binding to the back though. Didn’t have time to make quilt tags.
The pictures are on my phone and imgur is overwhelmed so I’ll add them later.
The quilt for my niece used packages of pre-cut squares and strips from Walmart. Her bedroom is Paris-themed so my sister really liked that the quilt would match the room.
Idk if you noticed but both quilts use the same gray blanket binding.
I learned to use a sewing machine a while back to make @PuppyCat some new sleepsacks, so I took my new skills to making stockings for my household.
Here are closeups of @PuppyCat’s & mine.

@Thumperchick
SNAKE!!! WOOHOO!
(Sorry, apparently I fell asleep for a couple of hours and am now finding EVERYTHING hilarious.)
@PlacidPenguin that is a brontosaurus.
@Thumperchick dinosaurs are awesome

@Thumperchick Wow- that’s impressive!

@dashcloud @RiotDemon - Thank you!

LOVE your stockings!
@mikibell I need a steady diet of pictures to survive. If I don’t get them, I end up at JoAnn’s and @humper starts mumbling about all of the craft crap in the house.
@mikibell
I love your family’s way of adapting.
@Thumperchick well to save @humper from muttering (although my only trip outside today was to Joanns!)
These were the yard yatzee dice we made…have to steal the kid’s camera to get the pic of the entire set/packaging.
This was one of the teacups…it was a boring one though…we had grandmother teacups and different patterns. The kid scented them coconut lime, I think.
The paper stuff is here…

@f00l thank you! We didn’t finish everything we intended to make, but still have Russian Christmas ahead of us…
I’ve been busy!
First, ornaments for the nieces:
Then, gnomes for coworkers:
A Dr. Who garland for a friend:
And finally, a Dr. Who wreath for me!
@Trillian as a Whovian, I approve and am jealous. I love it! The gnome and ornaments are super cute, too!
@Trillian @Thunperchick
Either of you had a chance to watch part of the Dr Who marathon on BBC America?
@PlacidPenguin nah. We stream as we can. Haven’t even caught up on Capaldi past a few episodes in.
@Thumperchick
Oh yeah. You’re a streamer, you said that once.

@PlacidPenguin Good thing I ran across the marathon tonight, because otherwise I wouldn’t have known that a new episode is going to air on Christmas night.
@Trillian Not a Who fan, but I loved Torchwood and I like the new spinoff Class.
Well i bought a lathe and made several wooden snowman ornaments. Sadly they are all wrapped up now so no pic. Just imagine tiny wooden snowmen in top hats.
@CaptAmehrican Big investment, but will pay off in spades if you’re a crafter. I see more wonderful gifts from you in the future.
@MSticklefeather Thanks to Thumperchick for bringing out the crafts theme at Christmas time. I can hardly wait to see what comes for Oma from the grandkids in the way of craft gifts. One granddaughter shows serious interest in artsy craftsly.
@CaptAmehrican that sounds cool. Should you make more, I would like to see them.

@moondrake bronze cast is like craft times a million
@moondrake neat! I look forward to pics.
@Thumperchick Here they are.
@moondrake they’re beautiful!

My niece’s quilt

My nephew’s quilt
@msklzannie lovely…that fleur de lis fabric is pretty!
@msklzannie I can never get my triangle quilts to line up nicely… I have soooo many ufos…
@mikibell The triangle quilt uses fat quarters http://www.craftbuds.com/quick-triangles-baby-quilt/
The quilt for my niece used packages of pre-cut squares and strips from Walmart. Her bedroom is Paris-themed so my sister really liked that the quilt would match the room.
Idk if you noticed but both quilts use the same gray blanket binding.
Found the link for the pattern for my niece’s quilt (wasn’t bookmarked).

@msklzannie beautiful!
I made cards. Lots of cards.
Your stockings are awesome!
@lisaviolet I love your papercraft. they’re gorgeous!
