Memorial Day Plans?
0Okay, let’s hear it. What’s everybody up to tomorrow?
Classic cookout? Alternative, um…alternatives?

I’ll be assisting in setting up a polling place for voting day, May 28th. I’m the Alternate Judge for the location, and my S.O. is the Presiding Judge. We have no other plans. (We expect a moderate turnout at most on Tuesday; there are only a handful of races on the ballot, and few that anyone cares much about.)
@werehatrack admirable! (Coming from a two-term judge of elections after finding out the hard way that where I live your spouse writing you in as a joke is, indeed, enough to win.)
@jouest For us, the challenge is to keep from being assigned as Presiding Judges at two different locations. My S.O. is technically legally blind, and while he has a license that allows non-freeway driving with a speed limit of 45 or less, it’s really dicey for him to navigate by GPS in the dark - so we try really hard to either operate as a team or make sure that one of the clerks is a friend who can do the drop-off run with him after the polls close.
@werehatrack I am familiar with the polls closing courthouse speed run!
My initial plans were to host a BBQ here for family and friends. However since Charlie’s recovery is taking longer than planned…
@tinamarie1974 hang in there, Charlie!
@tinamarie1974
Awww… Feel better CharlieDoggo! Enjoy your peanut butter treats and extra lovens while you recover. {{{HUGS}}}
I will be working as usual.
@yakkoTDI also working, but unusually
No plans. I spent the last 12 or 14 days or something helping someone move from a 10 room 3600sf house to a 750 sf apartment (well and she also has stuff in a pod and in a storage unit) and then running back and forth opening doors (since she moved 90 miles away) to let in cleaners, contractors, blah blah blah. I plan to do NOTHING!!! I am tired. Very tired. And Wed I have to bag all the curb alert stuff if there is any left - which I am sure there will be as a lot of it is more or less trash - which reminds me of some of what comes in irks.
@Kidsandliz well earned! Also, yes, it is our professional opinion that you will move more borderline trash with “$5 grab bags!” than with “FREE” signs all day long.
@jouest Gee. I wonder how you know that. Apparently you move even more crap with bags that cost more than $5 if recent history is any indication.
Nothing at all, as far as I know.
My Memorial Day plans are to stay off of Memorial Day planes, for probably obvious reasons.
Will be cleaning the alley behind my house.
My neighbor trimmed their trees and piled the limbs next to the dumpster behind my house and the city gave me notice to remove them or be cited if not removed by Tuesday.
Neighbor said it wasn’t them, said some teenagers dropped them and ran off!
Meh 🫤
@lonocat Wow. That’s appalling.
@Kyeh I know, but what can I do?
Maybe blame the GOAT!
@lonocat I guess so … and maybe get a surveillance camera for the future?
@Kyeh @lonocat Pictures? Of your neighbors’ trimmed trees and your non-trimmed trees?
FIGHT CITY HALL!
(Have bail money ready.)
@Kyeh @phendrick got the alley cleaned up and was able to get a sidedeal irk, also the Dallas Stars won! So guess it was an OK Memorial Day
@lonocat @phendrick Congratulations! I hope you don’t have to deal with their stupid branches again, jeez.
@Kyeh @lonocat @phendrick Any chance “teenagers” might come by again and happen to drop a bunch of those branches onto the neighbor’s lawn?
(Oh, this isn’t a replacement for actual camera footage, but are the Google street-view pictures detailed enough to show — side-by-side with current photos of trimmed trees & piled branches — that the pile came off your neighbor’s trees?)
(Another wonderfully bad idea: have you filed a police report on behalf of your neighbor? You know, to report that some teenagers were seen cutting pieces off the trees and piling them in the alley.)
@Kyeh @phendrick @xobzoo I don’t think that the average teenager would know how to properly trim trees and rose bushes.
@lonocat @phendrick @xobzoo I can’t believe the city just accepted that lame lie from your neighbor!
@Kyeh @phendrick @xobzoo city didn’t care who’s to blame. They stated, it’s on your property, so you are responsible.
I plan on time travelling to the Tuesday after memorial day this memorial Day
@OnionSoup I see that you made it.
Worked in the ER 14:45 to 23:15 after driving in from Atlanta in time to get there without going home first (left a set of scrubs and my sneakers in the car at the airport).
