@RedOx From the FAQ on their website which only consists of an FAQ and email address: My drone flew away! I need a replacement! “Fly-away drone incidents are not covered by our standard warranty.”
Plus I challenge anyone to find replacements for their proprietary batteries.
@Kerig3@RedOx According to reviews, the warranty is also voided if it ever crashes. So it might cover “DOA” or “broken during shipping.” Maybe.
I’m guessing the warranty only covers their need to offer a warranty, and fails to cover anything involving the drone. Which is probably why it’s on Meh.
Also I think you (@Kerig3) are right about the batteries. I rue the 30 seconds I just spent on the Propel website.
@yeppers Yeah, couldn’t find any batteries on Amazon or from a quick Google search. One Amazon review from 2015 mentioned that batteries and spare parts could be gotten from the Propel website through a “flight club” you’d need to sign up to, but this “club” seems to have been removed–along with any option to buy spare parts or batteries. This is definitely a “fly 'till it dies once” quadcopter.
For $15 this is the drone that you use when you want that high definition shot in a precarious position where there’s a 75% chance that you lose the drone. This is a disposable drone. Buy 2 so you have a backup disposable drone.
@davidwr99@jandrese Technically, 1280×720 IS a high definition resolution (720p), though the lowest one offered. If it’s an actual 720p camera (doubtful) they are correct in labeling it ‘HD’. It is slightly deceptive, however, to not list the actual resolution…which leads me to believe it’s most likely actually a crappy 480p camera (maybe not even).
I corrected a member in his math, but you decided to delete both comments, so typing {some angry bullshit} is easier than retyping the comment!! So, {I decided to yell and name call}!! A Foot Ball Field=360’, JSYK!! & BTW, that stupid perverted joke just caused you TWO SELLS, ASS-HOLES!! {Totally leaving that last one.}
@decoratedwarvet I think you meant “cost” you two sales because if you did indeed mean “caused” you two sales, then you just chewed them out to tell them what you were buying from them…either way meh-rry Christmas!
aw, @Dog19026, don’t be too hard on @decoratedwarvet. He’s an OK fellow. He’s on lots of medication mostly anyway. I always think of “Patches” from that underdog story when he posts.
@Dog19026, drinking only has an effect if one drinks too much, but one beer has never made me a lunatic-Never! I will explain myself One time & let you decide what you will. So & so made a comment that a Football Field equaled 500’ & on & on. I replied that actually a field = 100 yards which = 300’ because each yard = 3’, so adding the two 30’ end zones would add 60’, which would add 60’+300’=360’. But, instead of posting my reply, they deleted his comment & deleted my post. Therefore, instead of retyping my post, I said what I did. Then, I just mentioned it was easier to say To Hell with retyping my long Comment I would just drop it. Then I added that if they deleted both posts as some perverted joke, that joke caused them, or cost them Two Sells. Keep in mind, my comment was meant to Meh, not to the original commentor, nor to any other frecking nosey judgemental member! It IS Strange that everyone else can joke & say whatever they are inclined to cluck out, but when I say whatever I say, all of the sudden it’s taken so seriously!! So, WTF is the explanation of that? I’m all Drunk? If you think that way of me then, please, just don’t read my Drunk Rants! Okay? CAPICHE?
@Dog19026, And Yes, I Am Single & Happy. I was shot twice in Vietnam, so yes I take Pain meds, but Thanks, for your support & all your compassion for your Vets!!
“Range is 500 feet! That’s 5 football fields!” - NO! 500 yards is 5 football fields, 500 feet is less than 2 football fields. Football field=100 yards or 300 feet.
@frankefresh@GJMDZ@PooltoyWolf It was not edited retroactively. I read it saying exactly what it says now @ 3 minutes after the hour it was first posted
I was close to clicking buy when I remembered that the last drone I bought on meh is still in the box. No idea where it is, my wife “put it away” somewheres.
@Pufferfishy This little bugger has some serious bad habits according to some of the reviews. I have another $15 on sale brand from Amazon and it goes OK. Flight time on all the cheapos is pathetic. I fly mine in our warehouse which is full of 2.4GHz signals from multiple sources and it doesn’t seem to bother it.
@Dog19026 I’ve only tried it once - and the drone in question when “full rotor” once it was out of the range where the transmitter was the strongest signal (which was like 10 feet… lol)
Several Amazon reviews say that that the “auto-land” feature actually makes the drone fly high and away, never to be seen again. Sounds like a real piece of junk.
Quadcopters have a median lifespan of a few hours around my son. $15 seems like a good disposable one. These are also much bigger than I expected them to be. Maybe I should have grabbed a couple more. I might fly this around the warehouse at work so it can’t escape.
@bigfrank OK, so mine also came in an ‘open box’ in that there is no shrink-wrap, but it does look brand new with no evidence that it has ever been flown…
Of course, that being said, mine is missing the SD card reader that was supposedly included. But that is not really a deal breaker for me since I have lots of them around.
I must say, of all the RC helicopters that I’ve gotten for my son and I, these tie for the most fun, and most controllable. Those tiny quadcopters and most of the helicopters that are always going forward are a pain because you constantly have to keep altitude with them. This one you just get it to the level you want it, and it mostly stays around there.
There was one early one from Meh that allowed you to go both forward and backwards, but was just a dual rotor helicopter, that’s the other one that was really good. Other than that, we’ve had a lot of junky ones. Of course, we usually spend less than $40 on all of them.
The kid crashed his 4 times in the shop, but it’s still flying and working, but it drifts a tiny bit to one side now. A calibration would probably correct that. I haven’t tried the autoland button, but really all you need to do is hit down on the stick and it will slowly drift down to the ground.
The batteries do take some time to charge, I should have grabbed 4-5 of these so I could just keep cycling through the batteries.
@therealjrn I was thinking about it, but the batteries don’t look exactly the same. I think they might be a tiny bit smaller. I might pick a couple up just because these also have altitude keeping support, and thus would probably be similarly fun to play with.
@kazriko@therealjrn please come back to post the results of the battery swap attempt. You know how this stuff seems to get resurrected now and again, and it would be good to know for next time.
@chienfou I didn’t really time it, but it seemed reasonably long. I’ll have to do that next time I fly them. This was in a closed warehouse with very little airflow though, so it would also be higher than if you were flying around fighting the wind.
@chienfou@therealjrn Batteries are not the same size or connector, and won’t be compatible. I just ran a test with both of the original helicopters, and it was about 5-7 minutes before the low battery warning came on. When that happens, it stops paying attention to you trying to take it higher and will only move side to side or down. Once the new batteries are charged, I’ll take the Orbit helicopters out and try them. The controller is noticeably cheaper build though, so I might see if the better controller is compatible. The guards are also permanently affixed on the Orbit drone. I’ve only flown the other one with them attached though. Both of the original ones, and the orbit ones are open box, so probably returned units. I did get a few 3 minute videos out of the 7 minute flight.
@therealjrn Wow, those Orbit drones are just utter crap. The stuff that the reviews said about the Video HD drone are absolutely true about the Orbit drone. First one was completely DOA, instead of flashing when the battery was plugged in, one of the 4 LED bars was just solid on, and the rest off. No response whatsoever. The second one we got synced to the controller and it functioned, but when I first got it to take off it was very anemic and sluggish, and wouldn’t hover more than 3-4 feet off the ground… until suddenly it shot straight up into the air and stuck itself into the ceiling. If I were outside, that thing would have been GONE. It actually managed to get itself stuck into the insulation of the building, and I had to do a bunch of maneuvering to finally shake it loose, since I didn’t have a ladder that tall. After that it shot up 4 more times, the last time it never started responding to my calls for it to go down, and I had to hit the auto-land button… at which point it started going down slowly, then suddenly dropped about 4 feet off the ground. Luckily it didn’t break, but it seemed like it could have if it had landed just a bit differently.
@kazriko Well they got me for $15 then. I didn’t order the original offer, but bought 1 Orbit when they price-dropped. It’s still on it’s way here. I guess I’ll just plan on it being a real quick throw-away.
@therealjrn Hopefully you have better luck than I do. It’s possible that it’s just an air pressure sensor that’s on the fritz on mine, and that the quality is wildly variable.
box didn’t have any shrink wrap, so yeah… open box?
item looks to be pretty decent for the $$ charged
missing the (supposedly) included SD card reader
overall I am OK with this item as is.
I will hopefully get a chance to take it out and fly it a bit later. Battery is charging at this time. (the fact that the battery pack takes a mini USB connection makes me think this is undoubtedly an older product, but the build quality for the item seems pretty solid.)
Oh… no indication of the SD card size capacity either…
Drone crashed and broke on the first flight. Company is out of business and not honoring their 90-day limited warranty. So glad I wasted that $15 for 5 minutes of “fun”.
@moose3425
Did you have the blade guards on?
Did you have it in 3 channel mode?
I am still new at this and kind of hate that it defauts to start in 4 channel mode which is harder to control as a novice.
I managed to get mine up and running and even shot a short video just to check out the quality. I was flying it outside in very little wind, but had a hard time getting the hang of it and sent it into various obstacles including getting it hung in a tree (fortunately within reach with a ladder). I will continue to try to play with it.
IF yours is totally trashed, are you interested in getting rid of the battery? Send me a ‘whisper’ if you want to sell it…

@GLaDOS man, I got two drones for the price of a couple club sandwiches delivered. I don’t care if their headquarters is a vacant lot.
@Seeds $15 is pretty cheap so yah, I feel you.
lol per Amzn reviews, the ‘auto home’ feature seems to make it go home to China. Probably worth a $15 gamble for most but I’ll pass
@RedOx HaHa, no.
It’s made by Huawei, it just sends the photos and videos there.

@JustBeLoeb ah, but they never specified “where”. Maybe it was trying to return home to China.

@kazriko how much flight time did you get out of a fully charged battery?
@kazriko morningsave.com has a Propel RC Orbit 2.4 GHz HD Camera Drone w/One-Touch Remote and Extra Batteries. It looks like the same battery.
@therealjrn I was thinking about it, but the batteries don’t look exactly the same. I think they might be a tiny bit smaller. I might pick a couple up just because these also have altitude keeping support, and thus would probably be similarly fun to play with.

@chienfou @kazriko PRICE DROP TO $15 TODAY
@chienfou @therealjrn After I bought them at the higher price.
@chienfou @therealjrn Batteries are not the same size or connector, and won’t be compatible. I just ran a test with both of the original helicopters, and it was about 5-7 minutes before the low battery warning came on. When that happens, it stops paying attention to you trying to take it higher and will only move side to side or down. I will hopefully get a chance to take it out and fly it a bit later. Battery is charging at this time. (the fact that the battery pack takes a mini USB connection makes me think this is undoubtedly an older product, but the build quality for the item seems pretty solid.)
