Fuko fun
11So @evilstan60 posted the actual Unicode kanji in his Fuko reveal. This has never occurred to me before.
They are 不幸袋. Interestingly, Google translation detects them as Chinese, where they translate as “unfortunately bag”. If you change the language to Japanese you get Fukōbukuro.
When I googled the kanji, I was led to this Twitter search, which brings all kinds of interesting Japanese pictures:
https://mobile.twitter.com/search?q=不幸袋
I’m not exactly sure how they are being marketed in this picture found on that Twitter search:
NO FUKO FOR YOU?

After browsing that twitter query for a while, I learned a new emoji!
It’s the same in Chinese and Japanese. My wife, who is Chinese, hates my shirt and bag. She said it reminds her of how you say someone had an unfortunate death in Chinese.
I went to a Chinese search engine and put it in to see if she was just being weird. Nope, about half of the images were for news stories about deaths.
@evilstan60 Maybe there is a Meh conspiracy and what @dtertman is telling us isn’t fiction at all… and we’re paying to spread the word while evil laughter echoes through a warehouse in Carrollton.
@djslack @dtertman I’m sure there is evil laughter whether there is a conspiracy or not. I saw the mehbot videos. It’s a place of evil. That’s exactly why I’m here.
@djslack @evilstan60 There is absolutely not a conspiracy. You should not investigate. You should not send help. These are just posts on a website. They don’t have any meaning. They are just fun. There is no evil here.
There is no coded message in any of the stories. You should not look for one. There is no conspiracy. Everything is fine.
@djslack @dtertman @evilstan60 it bears repeating: EVERYTHING IS FINE

@djslack @dtertman @evilstan60 @UncleVinny
So… Conspiracy time?
Maybe this will be bigger than the “moon landing” or “the Earth is round” or even (though probably not) “Kansas is a real state”.
@djslack not a conspiracy, nothing to see here
My fuku came today. It was gloriously disappointing. I am now the proud owner of 6 collapsible cups, 36 plastic knives, a Dexter mug, and a plastic Star Wars character that I don’t recognize.
@jwilloughby better than mine
@jwilloughby better than mine too.
@jwilloughby
damned straight, or something
@jwilloughby
Shit, I’ve been ignoring the reveal thread. I guess I shouldn’t get my hopes up.
I’m new. Where do you get these fukus?
@catthegreat a couple of times a year they offer them. Mystery boxes. They sell out almost before you can blink an eye. This particular time they did over 2000 of them instead of around 600 or so. I’d guess (and I could be wrong) that they were clearing out the warehouse in preparation for their move to their new headquarters or they are just so running out of space in their old one.
@catthegreat @Kidsandliz better than usual variety and many more people got decent contents this time too. Makes sense if they’re trying to get rid of shit before a move.
@Seeds Yeah. I’ve had enough really crummy ones that it almost isn’t worth the $5. Then something like this comes along… of course likely the next one will be both a long time from now and pitiful since they have dumped so much stuff now. I mean, how many hubmen and awkward family photos, cups with animals in the bottom, etc. can they possibly have left (umm don’t answer that LOL).
