I don’t like it… yet. Every time I switch from Apple to Android, or Android to Apple, I think “I hate this other operating system, why did I switch? Oh yea, the deal that got me to get rid of my 5 year old phone…. Okay, I’ll get there.” Then like 2 weeks later I’m fine again, for another 5 years.
We’ll get there.
Might help us to give some context on why the changes and what benefits you saw in x feature.
Or did I miss that forum and go straight to the WTF thread?
@Cerridwyn@mollama I think it is called change for the sake of change so people have something to do on their job and aren’t just sitting around twiddling their thumbs scrolling around the internet instead. Kidding just kidding, well only sort of just kidding. Change for the sake of change though makes no sense. Especially this one that makes the home page messier, more cluttered, you have to scroll more…
The only change on the home page that I think is an improvement is putting the product photos where you can see them without having to click on a pile of dots. That is a keeper. The rest, not so much so.
@Cerridwyn@Kidsandliz@mollama the unnecessary change is one of the 5 things someone should have reported to Elon Musk earlier this week to keep their job for another week. or not.
@Cerridwyn@Kidsandliz@mollama Oh yeah I admit I have a Tesla but the screens keep changing. I got a loaner car at a dealer (minor issue under warranty) and the new model no longer had control stalks at all — it was all touchscreen, buttons on wheel, or voice control. or just use self-driving and say IDGAF. (but it’s now stricter about that — Hey driver, put down that beer and wake up!)
Functionally seems the same, no problem finding my cheese, but I only use it on my desktop (iMac). But the decidedly vertical format mean the fonts are smaller and more condensed (yeah, us oldsters really enjoy that) and the big blank areas on either side give it a “doesn’t belong here” feel. We get these big wide monitors to see things bigger and easier, this format defeats that advantage. Thanks, I guess.
@stolicat Never mind. I finally found it in about 2 point type on the very bottom, right hand side, of the home page. The type for that needs to be much bigger. At least the same size as the stuff higher up on the page.
Also, I forgot to compare the product photo gallery. I hadn’t noticed it being different until I saw someone complain about it in the forum. Then I went back to find the funny last picture.
I guess the new interface makes it more okay that the funny last picture isn’t as funny lately?
@xobzoo Oh, wow, that is a big difference. Clearly I’m an old fogey since I still use a PC and a tablet to visit Meh, whereas maybe today’s hip young mobile users prefer the AI slop.
@xobzoo Agreed that the icons help scan and parse the list of forum topics. We’ve added those back.
Also agreed that we lost the number of comments. We’ve brought those back as well but did so in a way that provides context for the comment/reply breakdown which seems like an upgrade.
Side scrolling seems very natural to me but we’ve added left/right arrows for those who might not immediately understand.
@shawn Thanks for bringing the icons back. They’re still kinda small, but they stand out just enough to show which posts are special. (and I appreciated seeing them when I visited the front page tonight)
On iPhone 15 Pro, the Meh button is cut off such I can’t click it and only see a tiny sliver of it. Trying to scroll sideways just a black portion of screen. I have to turn to landscape mode to see and click that Meh button.
@TimW Same problem on an iphone 12mini. I get more of the meh button than you do but apparently not enough for the click to activate.
Also can’t scroll to finish looking at the community thread photos. I get some of them and then it won’t finish scrolling. EDIT this time it would let me see them all.
I do have to scroll back and forth to see the entire screen even when there aren’t things to scroll through. It’s too wide for a 12 mini.
@shawn I have the same issue. I don’t want to make the type smaller globally as then it makes it harder to read. Part of the new page is about in 2 point type (/s) to begin with - like the bottom right where I finally found where to get to https://meh.com/forum. Took ages to find it since it is at the very bottom in type too small to read without bifocals on (I am typing this on my computer rather than my phone as I can type faster with a keyboard).
Also see the comment above this where I replied to @TimW that I have the same problems where you can’t fit the entire page on your phone and have to slide it back and forth and can’t slide it over enough on the one side (eg click button side, the rest of the last picture of the topics). On the old version you didn’t have to do that on the iphone.
This is how is shows up without doing anything. Scrolling part of it is still cut off. (I might have to reply to myself if I run out of edit time).
Scrolling here it is cut off as you can see (also you see the edge of the scroll - I have that blue on both sides scrolling). I had to click the face on my computer. It wouldn’t click on the phone as I guess not enough of it was showing to click.
This comment is for how this shows up on my computer.
This entire section the type is way too small as it requires bifocals to read and it didn’t used to. It is a PITA to have to manually temporarily make the page bigger to read it. Please make the type here as big as it used to be.
Also the way you have the highlighted forum topics - I have zero interest in looking at the AI generated photos for that. I’d rather have it more efficient and just list them like you used to. I’d like to have the link to the entire forum right under the topics (since they are related to each other) rather than then have to scroll to the bottom of the page to get to them. Or having to click on one and then click on forum to more quickly get to them than scrolling to the bottom of the page and then enlarging it so I can read it.
It is nice to see all the product pictures without having to click on each dot though. That is an improvement.
And for the record that is 7024 clicks with 15 in a row.
@shawn PS all the screenshots (except the one in the post above this one that says that one is on my computer - it’s a mac using safari) are on the 12mini
@Kidsandliz@TimW There were a few elements that got a little unruly when you increase the text size on iOS - admittedly something we had not really considered. I was able to see something very similar to screenshots and made some changes that should help. It’s not perfect, and we welcome feedback on issues for your particular use case.
@shawn it’s displaying without cutting the Meh button off now! I didn’t change the font size…I went in to change it as you requested, but apparently a coding change u made fixed it.
@mschuette@TimW I have only just now had time to check to see what the page looks like now on my iphone. Nothing is cut off anymore BUT I can’t read everything on my screen - I have to move it back and forth so I can see everything in two areas (see below). The rest is OK.
Two areas of the page though are still cut off on the right hand side of the page (see photos). I can then scroll to see the rest of the page. I’d prefer it to format so I could see everything without doing that, but at least nothing is cut off anymore once I slide the screen over.
First photo of each is when I scroll down, the second of each is when I scroll to see the rest of the screen. The rest of the “page” is fine. It all fits where I can see it all without scrolling (well except where we are expected to scroll to see featured forum threads and product photos)
Forgot to mention above: While no scroll arrows show up, I can scroll the product photos and the stuff under Our Community. That I expected to have to scroll.
Also I had to try to do the photos multiple times as sometimes after the green bar was done and I’d hit to upload it would upload the first part but then on the second line that is associated with that it would be blank other than seeing the very beginning of that. It is intermittent as I finally got all 4 photos to have both halves of what was needed for them to show up.
@mschuette I HATE that it takes MORE STEPS to see the highlighted forum threads. That is inefficient and the result is I skip over that. Adding the arrow does help but I DON’T CARE BECAUSE I NOW NEED TO TAKE MORE STEPS TO SEE THE LIST. Nope nope nope. This makes the page less efficient (and more cluttered although I notice meh has cleaned that up a bit since yesterday). Why would I want to take more steps to see something than I had to take before??? The result is I don’t even look at that list on the home page anymore. I just skip to the main forum.
Meh did fix the more step thing with the product photos because now you can see them all in one glance (on the computer) so that is an upgrade.
It should take fewer steps rather than more steps to accomplish something.
Comments above are using laptop mac safari. Now I am headed to my phone and will post comments for that separately.
It used to be EVERYTHING showed up on my phone screen without having to slide it back and forth. Whatever you folks used before to define the width of a page I’d suggest going back to. Photos show what it looks like scrolling down without sliding back and forth to see the entire page.
I made the mistake of thinking the towel photos that I saw were all of them until I swiped. You need to make that into more rows on a phone (I am not sure of the problems putting an arrow on a phone but not on the website a computer sees).
As I scroll down you can see where you made the screen automatically hit “return” and put the arrow you added to the homepage by the word community show up on the second row since there was no room for it after the word (how it shows up on the computer). You need to make sure the page “hits return” to make stuff show up on the phone screen rather than slide off the edge. This was NOT an issue using my phone how it used to be. Meh needs to figure out what was done before that prevented this from happening on the “old” version of the home page on the phone.
Make sure everything is centered - you can see in the screenshots how some stuff is and some is not. Look both at the dark blue vs lighter blue and look at where the stuff shows up by default (eg me not sliding back and forth) on my phone screen). This was not an issue in the old version.
Also on the “how’d you get here” the words stay on the darker blue but the bar goes off that on to the lighter “edge blue” (for lack of a better term word.). It would look better if that did not happen. As a result I have so slide the home page to see how far out it goes (see photo where I slide the screen so I could see the entire home page and it shows what happens with the bar). I took a number of screenshots so you can see how the right hand side of the page is cut off some places but centered nicely other places.
I’ll reply to my self with the screenshots as this is getting long and I don’t want to risk losing what I wrote if it takes me too long to update photos, screen shot those and then add them (I am doing all my typing on my computer as it is far easier than doing it on a phone).
@mschuette
All of these are the default size on my iphone 12mini. They are also at the default how they show up on the screen, except the one where I slid the screen to the right to see the right hand side of the how did you get here bar. I took that to show how it overshoots the darker blue (and you have to slide the screen to see the right side of it) where almost all the rest of the information on the home page is located and generally, but not always, centered on the darker blue area of the page (eg doesn’t run into the lighter blue left and right edges BUT a couple of things that are entirely on the screen without sliding it aren’t centered on the darker blue - although most are). If this isn’t clear ask and I’ll try again.
All the images cut off on the right hand side of the screen if I slide it I can see the rest of the cut off image.
The home page on the computer has arrows to “tell” you there is more and you can click on the arrow. Those arrows don’t show up on my phone.
So where is the button to get to the forum list that goes beyond the highlighted ones? I don’t want to have to click on a topic to then be able to click on FORUM to get the list of forum topics. Please add that to the home page so I can get to the list and not have to go through one of the topics.
Never mind. I found it. It is on the bottom of the page in about 2 point type (far right on a computer). It needs to be more prominent and in bigger type (so I can actually read it without resorting to bifocals or temporarily taking an extra step to enlarge the page so the type is readable and then undoing it. I didn’t used to have to do that.
@dave@Kidsandliz still don’t like it
It’s painful to old eyes in ways listed and just in general.
it’s not logical, at least to one who grew up thinking Spock was the most logical being in the universe (yeah, I watched it first run)
The pictures in the middle, where you go to other topics, are nothing but distracting. They are not even click bait. I like words more than pictures, but I know I am the exception that I score lowest in a learning style panel when it comes to things visual. I likely would ignore it totally if I was new on the site. You have to scroll down to get there and if you weren’t looking for it, why would you bother?
That section more than the rest of the page looks like very cheap AI generated material.
It also makes the forum look less important, as if you wanted to bother less with it. Why do I say that? Because on something you hold in your hand, the middle of the page is important. On a digital device, where you have to scroll down to the middle, what displays at the top is important, because it helps you decide if you are scrolling down for more.
Everything does fit on the laptop screen. Haven’t played with mobile.
@dave I thought you meant the word community was actually big enough to read without bifocals up higher by the highlighted threads (since after all it is related to them and I come to read them too, not just do a click face - yeah I know you hope I come to buy ) rather than at the very bottom of the page (where I had finally found it once I put glasses on).
I would prefer it to be right by the threads you are highlighting, since if we want to see the rest of the threads it would be right there, rather than have to scroll to the bottom (I am on my computer as this new page is not playing well with my iphone 12 mini) where I can’t read anything there without blowing up the page or finding my glasses.Or clicking on one of the highlighted threads so we can then go to the top of the page to click on forums. We didn’t used to have to do that.
Please think about some of your market who need bifocals when you folks design things. And that it would be nice if all the related stuff is together and that we don’t have to go to the bottom of the page in microscopic type (using safari on my mac).
@dave No yellow button surrounding to make it obvious it is a link too. I need the yellow hint it is a clickable set of words like the one above it. I mean now I know but I didn’t think the word was clickable and didn’t try as that is not how the rest of this is set up nor how it has been in the past. Yes I now see if I were to hover over it the hand shows up but why would I do that? It’s not obvious those words are active.
@dave@Kidsandliz As we adjust to the new layout, I do think “Our Community” needs to be a button. Clearly we like clicking buttons here. Maybe something like one of the below using today’s color theme?
@dave@heartny YES!!! I tried to say that before but you said that so much better than I did!!! I like your top sample better than the bottom one. The bottom one is just going to add more clutter to an already too cluttered page.
And all the arrow you added implies (which was needed) is that there are more boxes to the right. Not that if you click it will take you to the forum. I only know that is what I needed to do because of the thread here. What I first thought was there was no way to the forum from the main page now and would have to type in the url and save it so I could go to bookmarks. Or (now once that was added) scroll to the bottom where the type is so tiny it is impossible to read without either enlarging my page or putting reading glasses on so that is useless too. There are so many of us on here that are old enough to need them…Or at least so many of us active on the forums who are of “that age” if one were to base it on what is said.
And for you 40 somethings who are just starting to wear them your eyes will need stronger and stronger ones as you age. Those of you who are nearsighted and don’t need them yet if you look under your glasses or take them off… fate will eventually bite you and you too will eventually need them. You are just luckier than others and won’t need them as soon which is a very nice delayed reward for needing glasses to see distances the rest of your life (says she who is finally happy about having had to wear glasses since 4th grade). Taking that into consideration when designing the page would make sense.
If your web designers don’t need bifocals to read what is on the webpage then please listen to those of us who need them. Also due to color blindness in (mostly) males - for most of them either blue and green look alike or green and red look alike, try not to have important buttons or text with those two contrasts together/on top of each other/embedded in each other so those folks can read what is there (my father is blue/green colorblind and so I am aware of the issues).
I now no longer read which threads they are highlighting under the word community because of how it is set up. Not worth scrolling to see them and the pictures are mostly don’t add anything except to much clutter. The type size for the thread names (and you have this problem on a few other places on the page too - for example people’s comments about the deal - this is made worse on a small phone) there is too small which results in it getting lost in that clutter if I am just taking a quick look. Also I want to see them all in one glance. Not spend time scrolling. So I skip that. And I already mentioned the type size issue at the very bottom of the page. The old page had far fewer type size problems and far less clutter in the layout which make it easier to read (and yes as I said elsewhere some of the changes are for the better - I am only pointing out what needs improvement to make things better so don’t think I am trashing your entire efforts, my natural view of the world is how can we improve things and when commenting on student papers I have to consciously remember to tell them what they did well so they don’t get discouraged and think they totally screwed up). I now skip most of the home page other than to make sure my click face click “stuck” down below in the click face calendar.
I missed the edit time but I found the answer to my question. Apparently only some people got the new layout, must’ve been like the Beta subscribers, I missed the sign up for that!
I am finding I preferred the list of highlighted community topics where it was quick and easy to see ALL the topics at once without having to do anything. Having to scroll to see them is a pita. I am finding I am skipping that section completely and just going to the forum list. Don’t know if that matters to meh or not but it matters to me. I also think they just clutter up the home page the way it is now with AI photos overpowering the actual topic title. I care about the topic title and not the AI picture.
And again, the change I like is that you can see the product photos without having to click on a pile of dots.
@Kidsandliz For the old product photos, I only ever clicked on dots if I wanted to jump to one in particular. which was fairly rare. Simply tapping or clicking on the main picture would advance it to the next one. (It can get tedious if it’s a long list, but it’s easier than trying to hit the tiny dots.)
@xobzoo HAHAHA so how long have I been on here and never figured that out? (try since the first week). @mschuette Speaks to having to make things obvious on websites - that would be obvious to the users, not to the designers.
/showme Who moved my cheese?
@mediocrebot Precisely!
@blaineg And your topic is on the front page …
Looks like even the bot is more flummoxed than usual.
It is fucking ugly
we hate it @dave
@Cerridwyn I respectfully second.

If you’re a super oldster, there’s some unintended irony here. Where is @unixrab for his victory dance.
@snapster Nice to see you on the forums again. How’s the family?
@snapster it enough being proven right. no need for dances.
I couldn’t rickroll one of the descriptions,
so I settled for using Comic Sans.
Yes, we’ll get used to it.

100%.
@Kidsandliz You can click the big header word “community” and go to the forum homepage
@dave @Kidsandliz still don’t like it
It’s painful to old eyes in ways listed and just in general.
it’s not logical, at least to one who grew up thinking Spock was the most logical being in the universe (yeah, I watched it first run)
Shutting up now
@dave thank you I’ll try that
@dave I thought you meant the word community was actually big enough to read without bifocals up higher by the highlighted threads (since after all it is related to them and I come to read them too, not just do a click face - yeah I know you hope I come to buy
) rather than at the very bottom of the page (where I had finally found it once I put glasses on).
@Kidsandliz The words “Our Community” just above the horizontal list of topics is a link to the forum

@dave @Kidsandliz As we adjust to the new layout, I do think “Our Community” needs to be a button. Clearly we like clicking buttons here. Maybe something like one of the below using today’s color theme?
@dave @heartny YES!!!
Well, the forums just had a hiccup. I was seeing (and barred from) entering topics from 2016 instead of 2025.
And why do I not see anything different? Are you guys on a computer rather than a phone?
I missed the edit time but I found the answer to my question. Apparently only some people got the new layout, must’ve been like the Beta subscribers, I missed the sign up for that!
@Lynnerizer
Same here
I am finding I preferred the list of highlighted community topics where it was quick and easy to see ALL the topics at once without having to do anything.
@xobzoo on mobile you can still swipe, on desktop you can most likely arrow once you hover/click one or are otherwise focused in that area.
@xobzoo HAHAHA so how long have I been on here and never figured that out? (try since the first week).
@mschuette Speaks to having to make things obvious on websites - that would be obvious to the users, not to the designers.
/giphy ouch
