@docflash I am the buyer at meh, this product is not designed for outdoor use but if you go over to morningsave.com they have an outdoor unit for sale on the Crime Savers Exclusive. FDT outdoor Wi-Fi camera.
I was shipped a camera still registered to someone and it took two weeks to have them remove the camera so it could be added to mine.
Support sent me very little communication and eventually UPS sent me an email letting me know that a label was created. I assume it was for me to ship the camera back, but never got a response from support to let me know what to do next.
If you raise it right and teach it to respect others it won’t run off and join a botnet.
Seriously, if you want to break into the security field you could worse than to buy one of these and figure out how to secure it so it doesn’t become infected and attack the rest of the internet and/or share all of your deepest secrets.
Important Message from Foscam Digital Technologies Regarding US Sales & Service
We, Foscam.US (aka Foscam Digital Technologies and now Amcrest Technologies), are an independent United States based distributor of “Foscam” branded products. We have been offering telephone support, US local warranty and building the Foscam brand in the US for the past 7 years. However, we are deeply saddened to report that, even after all of this, our overseas suppliers have decided to undercut us and supply to our major customers directly. For this reason, we have no choice but to suspend telephone support for all Foscam branded products. If you have purchased a Foscam camera directly from us or from one of our authorized retailers, technical support is still available via email at support@foscam.us.
For customers who have not purchased from us directly, we advise you to please contact Foscam Shenzhen or the distributor which you have purchased from. In the meantime, we have launched our own new brand of IP cameras called Amcrest, which has superior quality products and full telephone technical support 7 days per week. We hope you can support us in our new venture. For more information, please visit www.Amcrest.com.

@Demonius Get that one, especially if it’s not a refurb. I’m going round and round with meh.com, foscam.us, and foscam.com. Not having a good time, either!
Got my Foscam from meh. Definitely a meh. Missing the manual, missing a part, also seems like it’s registered to someone else because I keep getting asked for a camera name and password. Not to set it up, to access it. It’s a waste of time. I should know better than to buy crap on meh.
@thismyusername Thanks for the input, I tried the reset button and the unit said the reset succeeded. Tried to install via the wired connection, which failed. Reset succeeded again, and tried installing via the wifi connection. Failed again. Got the “Device has been added by another account” message. The account is not mine, though.
@Santannaclaus that sucks… if you do contact foscam for warranty remember to refer to meh.com as “a mediocre corporation” or you might get the “not a authorized retailer” thing since they don’t usually have meh.com on the list
@thismyusername Thank you for your help. Contacted foscam.us as per Meh, who then told me to contact the manufacturer, foscam.com. Hmmmmm…not feeling real confident with my purchase.
@audiocontr They did the same thing with me. I immediately contacted support and didn’t get an answer yet either (48 hours and counting). Obviously, this is an issue and they should (but aren’t) be on top of it.
@audiocontr@gschenbeerg@netiian - support is made up of a couple of humans who work M-F, 9-5ish. During a busy period (now, totally now is busy) it can take a few days to hear back from them. If you sent your message, they will get back to you as soon as they can. If you haven’t contacted them, use the form at meh.com/support for help.
If it’s been more than 3 business days, tag me and I’ll see if I can get an update for you.
@Thumperchick While you have a very intriguing name, I’ll stick to the topic at hand. Yes, someone eventually contacted me and is sending out replacements now that I have sent back the incorrect units. Thank you for your offer of assistance.
Man am I unhappy with this camera. Evidently there is no config stored within the camera itself - it all lives in some foscam site and you don’t seem to be able to configure this thing for private access without having it wired up through foscam.
It seems like you’d have to be some kinda nut to install this thing in your home since all the configuration and usage requires that your authentication is stored externally and you cannot provision custom (obfuscated through a pseudo-random set of dyndns + port forwarding) configuration for it. I’ll just say I don’t intend to put this thing in my baby’s room.
Really unhappy customer here with the R2 purchase. Tried to connect it, got the “device connected to another account” message. Meh sent me to foscam. us, who now has sent me to foscam.com (yeah, you’d think they were the same, but they aren’t). I’ve already posted once and some helpful people tried to give me advice, but it appears only the manufacturer can help me.
Note to self: Forget buying web enabled refurbished items from meh.com. For the small savings, you get to spend hours trying to figure out what’s wrong.
@Santannaclaus can’t you just do factory reset on the device and start setup from there? I haven’t tried this with mine, but it seems this would be how you’d transfer ownership to another person.
@Thumperchickfoscam.com is actually trying. They asked me to send a clearer picture of the camera QR code, so they are working on it! I’m pretty confident they’ll solve the issue now that I’m getting a pretty quick response.
@slipperyp Apparently it does not work that way. I guess it’s an additional security feature. I reset the R2 at least a dozen times, with two different wireless access points and always got the “device registered to another account” message. I read on some forum that meant the person that returned the camera originally had set it up on their account, then when it was refurbished, whoever refurbished it did not perform the procedure necessary to “clean out” the old owner’s date. I wonder if that means the old owner can see me? Yikes!
@Santannaclaus Ugh. What a cluster. I very much do not want my creds / registration of this device sitting at foscam.com (per my earlier reply to myself in this thread now). I should have stuck with the older devices!

How else are you going to keep an eye out for Christmas-stealing Grinches?
Pretty sure these are the kind of webcams that get almost immediately conscripted into internet-crippling bot swarms? Decent price tho.
@potch Not necessarily, but their default setting is to join a global P2P network that punches through firewalls.

@edavies who doesn’t need to sing, see in the dark and spy on someone all the same time?
@mmietus0703 It should have a knife as well.
specs didn’t mention waterproofing. would these be good to watch the chicken coop outside?
@docflash 14 degree F minimun, not good where i live outside
@Yoda_Daenerys disguise it as an egg and have one of the chickens sit on it then?
@Yoda_Daenerys It probably isn’t good that you live outside in that cold of a temperature. Do you need a hot cocoa or a blanket or something?
@docflash I am the buyer at meh, this product is not designed for outdoor use but if you go over to morningsave.com they have an outdoor unit for sale on the Crime Savers Exclusive. FDT outdoor Wi-Fi camera.
@El_Oel beat me to it!
@rkaye If only they operated at 5GHz; 2.4 is an unusable maelstrom around our place any more.

@chipt4 spoiler alert, the R2 is the more expensive one.
@chipt4 spoilerer alert, i researched myself out of it. I desperately want a doggy voyeur cam but… meh.
@chipt4 I was so confused by this! Thankfully I’m not losing my mind, they just got them mixed up in the description.
Watch out for super bad support from Foscam.
I was shipped a camera still registered to someone and it took two weeks to have them remove the camera so it could be added to mine.

I know I’m being mean, but I can’t help but think that this is a Mirai bot cam.
These should be called pwnCams. https://www.cvedetails.com/vulnerability-list/vendor_id-12538/Foscam.html

The DDNS server is a particular concern.

I stopped buying FOSCAMS and sold the ones I had because they require you to install a proprietary plugin to configure/use and don’t work with Linux. The proprietary plugin is also a security risk.

Anyone know if I can stream this to my local NAS? Also, does the SD card re-write over itself?

@Santannaclaus
Did you contact support?
@Santannaclaus try resting it to factory to clear out the info.
I think on these models you push and hold the WPS button for 11 seconds to restore to factory default
@thismyusername Thanks for the input, I tried the reset button and the unit said the reset succeeded. Tried to install via the wired connection, which failed. I ordered 3x R2s… They sent 3x C2s. I no want
@audiocontr Me neither. Contact customer service.
@Barney yup yup. Did so 24 hours ago. no response yet, but I purchased more stuff while I wait. Maybe that’s meh’s evil plan?
@audiocontr Probably.
