If this student signs on at some place like Domino’s as a driver ASAP, they are pretty busy during the holidays and thru the SuperBowl. And people tip reasonably during those periods.

And this winter there will be Olympics, NBA, NCAA, etc, to keep the pizza orders coming.

I don’t know how cheaply one can purchase a shell or camper thing for the pickup, but I would think he could do it with Domino’s money.

@f00l As he is graduating the hope is full time “real” job. I know he has some junk jobs now but collectively not enough money to stay in a motel every night. Of course once he is done with school then he can work full time. He is taking 21 credits to graduate this term so a 6 hour overload. Amazingly passing them all. I wish I could round up a couple of hundred dollars to give him as a graduation present so that he as a handful of days of reprieve right after graduation. This is a small town surrounded by even smaller towns so very limited with respect to jobs.

Edit - His kids are in this town so he is reluctant to leave. The nearest town with a lot of opportunities is about 95 miles away. Likely he will have to end up there. At least the immediate issue is solved through graduation. Speaking of which I need to check with the bookstore to see if his cap and gown is paid for. Just thought of that now.

Re Domino’s.

They will almost certainly take him. They are super busy thru Near Year’s and all the Bowl Games and playoffs.

Tips will be good. This is the best time if year for tips. Domino’s will work with his school schedule, and once he graduates, they will almost certainly take him full time.

They will work with the hours he says he is available, so long is he is definitive about not being able to work just any time when he is hired. He should set those limits about available hours up front.

They prob want him mostly for nights and weekends anyway (also by far best tips during those hours), so that will allow him freedom to do serious job searching during the day.

This way he could possibly pay for his own motel or camper add-on to his pickup. And have some extra.

This is the best time if year for that, if it works for him.

@Kidsandliz I usually buy the Moser Roth or Chauceur chocolate. There’s an orange one that comes with little toffee bits, but I can’t remember which brand, but I do not like it. It’s a chore to eat because the toffee bits are tiny and then they stick all in your teeth really bad. I usually just like the milk chocolate ones or the raisin and almonds one.

The Moser has a coconut macaroon right now that is basically a Ferrero Rafaello but in a bar. Super delicious! I also picked up their Fine Truffles which are similar to a Lindt truffle. They are ok. I almost like that kind of truffle out of the fridge, otherwise they’re too soft.

They have Knopper which is a square wafer that tastes almost like a Ferrero Rocher.

@Kidsandliz I feed my Mr Whiskers boiled chicken with rice when he gets off his appetite. Sometimes a few days on the brothy mixture will perk him back up. He’s so old my vet and I decided to not give him his vaccines this year because of the stress it would put on him.

He’s very skinny too, what with the pancreatitis and all. He likes being in his sheepskin-lined carrier in the car. But if all I had a sketchy car to transport him I would take an extra blanket for him.

I know I can’t really offer any advice that you have not already thought of, but mehbe a friend might have a car to follow you or something? If your car ends up in the shop you’ll need a driver anyway.

My car is starting to smell like antifreeze when the heater is on too. Probably that means it is the heater core box leaking…crap. They can be fixed relatively easily. I guess you could try to pour in some of that stop leak crap in your radiator. I did that with an old car one time and it held the leak at bay for a while.

@therealjrn I have been syringing baby food (the basic kind with just meat and broth or gravy). Had to have her get sub cutaneous fluid on the way to work. Picked up some Science diet wet A/D at the vet as that is a more balanced meal and it syringes better than pate cat food (finer grained so less likely to clog the syringe). Going home now to syringe more food and then back to work. Was going to take her with me to the emergency vet yesterday but decided not to tempt fate with a sick cat in the car for 190 miles if I broke down and it was cold out (didn’t break- but cost $280 to fix it and it could have broken on the way home based on what was wrong if I hadn’t and I couldn’t have fixed it if I was at the emergency vet that it was an either/or choice was not ideal). Can’t drive back there the rest of the week due to giving finals, grades due…until Sunday and take her then. I hope she lives that long.

As for the antifreeze smell inside – it could be a leaking heater core. I’m not sure what the labor is with your Element, but on my truck, the whole dashboard has to come out – which is why I haven’t replaced it. If it’s a small leak, ground black pepper can stop it, though no more than a few teaspoons.

@narfcake Yeah that was what I was told too - (heater core and tear the dashboard apart - seems to me engineering is in cahoots with the dealer repair shop for more profit/to keep them in business). Right now we are just tracking how much coolant I am losing over how long/short a time (something else was fixed while I was there that I didn’t know was broken so I guess it wasn’t a wasted trip to the repair shop). I was down about a quart of coolant.

This is making me wish I hadn’t taken in those cats from the homeless family (they have picked them up but I sent them away with a month of food, litter, dirt box, etc.) as I sort of need that money now to pay for my kitty. @Calabama All my cats are strays. One I bottle fed. Three of them are 17 or almost 17. One will be 7 next month. All my cats before this one were too. My current fat cat got diabetes and now he is a normal weight cat and in remission from diabetes.

@therealjrn We used to give all our farm animals and dogs their shots including vaccines, including subcutaneous (just under the skin).
It’s so much cheaper that way and many shots are available at the feed stores.
It’s pretty easy to do. (Never gave a cat a shot, though…)

I blew off sleep a lot of last week in order to accomplish a small portion ofa total PITA long-term horrid task. I knew I would get an unpleasant sinus uprising from this insouciance of mine in relation to sleep, and I have.

The cold weather didn’t help much.

It all kicked me a little harder that expected, but nothing that truly debilitating.

Am pretty ok now.

Hell, I might do it again this weekend.

Esp if weather not that cold.

I once worked for a biz that had its own short order grill with cooks, and a warming table.
(Like a mini Waffle House).

They had trays of bacon during all hours the grill was open. (Round the clock, if I remember.)

Very popular. Including with me.

Carrot muffins (great!). And coffee (rotgut, but we loved it.)

And piles and piles of bacon.

(Kinda like that pix.).

I dunno the heat attack rate there, but hungry people were pretty happy.

Back when IMDB was actually useful and not just a puppet for the studios I used to pointedly stay out of the forums over there until I could see a show with “fresh eyes”

Fortunately, they killed off the useful forums but left all the studio hype so it’s no longer a problem for me.

What happened over at IMDB? I never used it that much.

Only, I remember that it was interesting when I went there.

And then it kinda wasn’t, except for checking trivia info now and then.

Did the site get sold or something? And then get turned into a glossy nothing?

@f00l It was originally grown out of some USENET film groups, then was a hosted website. “Internet Movie DataBase” Lots of volunteer activity, message boards to kibitz about TV and movies etc.

Then this guy named Bezos came along and bought it…

Amazon left it alone for a while, but started to monetize it, adding in paid features and linking the movie pages to Amazon video…

But in February 2017 they decided to kill the message boards–the only part I really used–too much maintenance for too little payoff they said.

The message boards were easily searchable, and if (for example) you wondered why Javier Bardem’s Chigurh didn’t kill Tommy Lee Jones’ Ed Bell in “No Country for Old Men” you could find discussions about it.

I guess it’s still good for trivia and goofs, but the studios clearly have a heavy hand over there now.

@f00l I haven’t found a suitable replacement for IMDB but I’m still poking around. IMDB had a depth of multi-year participants. I’m a 12 year veteran under my current log-in but frequently I would see people that had been there much longer.

Now for Chigurrh & Bell:

ONE theory is it’s because they never met. True enough, there are no scenes with them together.

BUT things get a little murky when Bell goes back to the hotel room where Llewelyn Moss was killed …oops…spoiler alert (shit, the movie is a decade old now, if any readers haven’t seen it by now…)

ANYWAY We see Chigurrh hiding and are led to believe that Bell is on the other side of the door. We even see a reflection in the shiny brass cylinder where the door bolt was. Hmmm

SOME say that Chigurrh managed to stay hidden, and that Bell wasn’t a direct threat so he didn’t ambush him. Eh…I guess.

OTHERS say that Chigurrh was a straight up devil walking the Earth so he supernaturally disappeared hisself. Uh oh, they didn’t tell me this was a devil movie.

MYSELF I think that it was a story arc that didn’t make it out of the editing room…not that big of a deal for me.
