Dear Meh: Where is a Mediocre Dump (i.e.: Woot-Off)
7Dear Mr. Matt Rutledge Sir,
Back in the ol’ days of Woot before it died (RIP July 2010), Woot-Offs were the most bad-ass thing to ever happen. Seriously, they were great and always landed a day or two before my payday - so I could never afford the cheap crap I had no business in buying anyway. And how many different Roomba models did you guys really have back there?
But with Meh, I’m sure you have that back room filled with items worth an eye-roll or two. Meh has been in the game long enough to have enough crap to pawn off on us, so we can buy it with money we don’t have, and blame someone else as to why we cannot pay back our student loans.
So I give you a title worth considering: “Mediocre Dump”. Because “Epic” doesn’t really fit in with the company image, and I can’t use “sh!t”. However, I’m sure most of us might use the phrase “epic sh!t” like I do to describe our after coffee events each day. So it just seemed fitting for a Mediocre Dump title.
Anyway, I’m still waiting for something cool to make me feel better about my VMP membership. If you want to make me happy for sh!ts and giggles, you can put up another set of Phillips SPA4270BT Bookshelf Speakers with Bluetooth. Because I need some speakers in my daughter’s bedroom so she can play the same pop song on repeat until I take my own life with a CRKT pocketknife (calm down, calm down - not really. I’d probably drink myself stupid instead).
All the best and tons of love,
-Me

Question: does sh!t = shit?
@Ignorant I was trying to mask the word “election”.

@DaveInSoCal
How about we discuss everybody’s favorite topic?
Namely, East Coast vs West Coast?
Or, we could complain about the circuit breaker.
Or we could combine the two and make @katylava happy.
@ocifersve I guess @PlacidPenguin has us covered on previous discussions
We do have items collect and for now we’ve moved them at the wholesale level.
I’ll expand further than before: woot-offs worked in a unique period of time on the internet. A main reason the initiative gets pushed back is that the cost/benefit for the effort is a rough ratio. It’s far harder to pull folks in from social media’s walled gardens than the open web.

I’m not sure if that gif could have been more appropriate.
@DaveInSoCal How does the bird know?!
@DaveInSoCal OTGW!
@snapster But isn’t there a significant viral publicity benefit to them too? I remember when the early Woot-offs happened there would be a lot of buzz and I’d usually tell pretty much everyone I knew. People who otherwise were only vaguely aware of Woot would F5 the page like an addict at a slot machine.
@Starblind That was then; nowadays, there are lots of deals sites so that audience is completely spread thin.
According to Google Trends, woot is still more popular than meh. Maybe once meh is bigger, but right now, it’s still pretty small here.
@narfcake That’s a really interesting chart. Woot still holds the edge but since late July it’s been extremely close. Unfortunately it looks like it’s more due to the long, slow death of Woot than any sudden surge of interest in Meh.

Re Meh vs Woot: I was hoping to see South Korea on the traffic charts.
Also why Alaska but no Hawaii?
