I bought one of these from meh before, and accidentally left it plugged in overnight (With nothing attached to it). When I woke up for work, I found my car battery was dead. Oops.
@huja yeah, I bought the 175w last time. Still haven’t cracked the plastic. Apparently this one is not only more doubleyews, it has an auto-shutoff that ours lack? I don’t think I $7 care about that. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
@DarkHuD haha I know what you mean. My grandmother would watch it instead of us watching cartoons. I watched a full episode a few days ago for the first time and thought it wasnt that bad of a show.
This thing might be capable of 200W output but most 12V outlets in cars are ran off a 10A circuit so if you put more than 120W of load on it you’ll pop the fuse. Just something to keep in mind.
@alacrity 3-phase powered Ninja blender-- That’s when they know you’re serious. Gasoline powered Ninja blender-- That’s when they know you’re a prepper.
I tried a ton of VR stuff at CES this past year and some of it is really neat…speaking about Vegas conventions is meh at ASD this week cause i see a ton of meh type products over there
Was thinking further on your point - harvesting the parts might make some sense depending on your parts bin needs…
Rig up a car cigarette port battery booster in a crunch by screwing those cord terminals to the battery/batteries (12v/6v) you harvest (“borrow”?) from the emergency exit signs/lights of the nearest building? Only in a crunch, of course.
I just bought one of these last week to power our oil furnace while the power was out… It was 32 bucks, and I could return it, but that one had the option to hook it to a car battery directly so you can get 800-something peak watts and 400 constant… I just think most the times when I’d really want an inverter, I’d need that option…
@Pantheist you’re likely aware, but for those who are not, some thoughts…
Some things need pure sine wave power unlike what these inexpensive modified/simulated sine wave inverters provide. Some motors or items with inductive components overheat when they don’t get sine wave power.
When running extension cords, short is better. Voltage drop over too-long or too-small gauge extension cords can cause premature burnout of motors.
Pure sine wave inverters are a lot more expensive.
Powering only the furnace won’t accomplish much unless the thermostat on the wall also gets power.
Nice. Cabot Cove, murder capital of the world. Any death-by-power-inverters?
"Research for BBC4 found Cabot Cove, Maine has the world’s highest murder rate, with an average of 5.3 corpses per year turning up in the town of only 3,560. That equates to nearly 1,500 murders per million.
That’s 60% higher than Honduras, the runner-up murder capital of the world with a violent death every 74 minutes.
About 2% of Cabot Cove residents met a grisly end during Aunt Jess’ 12-year residency, with the murder rate for visitors even higher."
Imagine the lives saved had she just stayed in New York. Oh, the humanity!
June 24th i bought 1, 150 watt unit price 8 bucks Dec. 29th i bought 2 more 175 watts with 2 outlets and the usb port this time 9 bucks … (Works good and its quiet as hell) So this is the best deal if you can get past it blows a fuse when at 126 watts in the aux. port according to one post on here is that true? price wise this is a monster price for this unit nice stocking stuffer.
For those discussing the 150 watt limitation, read the manual (linked). It clearly states that if using above 150w, you need a direct connection to the battery and it shows you how.
This falls squarely into the “it’s super cheap so I should just buy it even though I’ll probably never use it and it will just sit around taking up space until that one time I could actually use it but I don’t know where the fuck I put it” category.
@cinoclav Exactly. I was imagining going on a roadtrip with my imaginary friends and we’re talking to each other and on the phones and one of my imaginary friends phone’s dies and I say, “Oh, just plug it into that thing over there”, and they say “Wew, your the coolest and the best!”
@MWPollard
If it seems that neither Amazon nor Meh can give a consistent description of this product, well no wonder. The manufacturer page you link to says, in the right column, under Product Overview:“The CPS200AI features two AC outlets” and in the left column, under Product Details:“AC outlets: 1”.
This seems like an electrifying deal MEH. If I connect this to a 200watt bluetooth repeater and stick one of my knives in the outlet will I be able to time travel? And YES I know i would have to directly connect it to my battery
The one I got emits a really foul electrical odor, even after keeping it on after an hour with the windows open (bad when it is raining). Is that the case for others?

Meh. Get back to me when you sell an extroverter.
For introverts
I bought one of these from meh before, and accidentally left it plugged in overnight (With nothing attached to it). When I woke up for work, I found my car battery was dead. Oops.
@lichme this one is less meh than that one. This one turns itself off before stranding you.
I bought the weakling 150w version during an earlier meh deal. Damn you, meh!
@huja yeah, I bought the 175w last time. Still haven’t cracked the plastic. Apparently this one is not only more doubleyews, it has an auto-shutoff that ours lack? I don’t think I $7 care about that. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
So… There’s no Bluetooth?
whoa… I almost started watching an episode of “Murder, She Wrote” about a hour ago… and I almost never watch Murder, She Wrote…
@DrSayre We know…
@DrSayre are you a sayer of truth, Dr?
@RedOak haha I try to be… really wished I watched Murder, She Wrote now instead of the USA/Japan baseball game…
@DrSayre You lived it instead?
Masterful writeup! With usb ports! For my car!
Might work well with my hot logic!
ok, is there some kind of pun or something I’m missing as to why they picked a bunch of murder she wrote gifs for this?
@boygenius1991 no idea.
@boygenius1991 why yes, there is…
The resulting flood of memories from my childhood of watching Angela Lansbury be awesome with my grandparents is beyond words.
@DarkHuD haha I know what you mean. My grandmother would watch it instead of us watching cartoons. I watched a full episode a few days ago for the first time and thought it wasnt that bad of a show.

@cjrhoades Just bypass the fuse with a paperclip!
@cjrhoades maybe alligator clips on the battery for the full 200?
nuh-uh. I need at least 1200watts to run the Ninja blender for margaritas.
@alacrity buy 6 of these. (2nd acct) Good to go.
@RedOak man, I tried that with 3 400 watt units, and splitting up the wiring on the cord by thirds was a real bitch- I ain’t goin’ for 6th’s…
@alacrity Dance party!
@alacrity 3-phase powered Ninja blender-- That’s when they know you’re serious. Gasoline powered Ninja blender-- That’s when they know you’re a prepper.
@mehcuda67 a true prepper goes diesal or kerosene. At that point, im just drinking straight tequila and bitng limes to hold off scurvy.
Where are the MSW guest star trading cards you secretly mentioned in the YouTube link text?

What episode is the VR scene from?
@atannir The one where she made a porno. Work it, Jess!
Aunt Jess!
The Amazon one has two AC outlets. This one appears to have one.
@JRR I think that is a pic of the 400W one…
@JRR buy 2 of these. Good to go.
@JRR The one at Amazon is the same item, but they have the wrong pictures. The listing has the same model number, but the picture clearly says “400W”.
I tried a ton of VR stuff at CES this past year and some of it is really neat…speaking about Vegas conventions is meh at ASD this week cause i see a ton of meh type products over there
@ihaveyoursox I’d really like that…I think.
Wow, so cheap, I’m practically throwing money away by not buying it!
@awk . . .

@RedOak nearly all thermostats are either battery powered or powered by a dc supply on the furnace itself
@RedOak Mine thermostats are all powered from the furnace like @tjamesturner mentioned.

That’s right. Lock her up!
This is a great deal. Normally I have to go all the way to Tosche Station to get my power inverters.

@mellowirishgent Just bought 2 like always one to keep one to give to a friend … anyone have a link to the battery cables that go with this unit?
Does it come with shoulder pads?
For those discussing the 150 watt limitation, read the manual (linked). It clearly states that if using above 150w, you need a direct connection to the battery and it shows you how.
@richferg Unfortunately this one doesn’t come with the battery clamps.
Not UL certified… nopety nope.
No poll option for the PSVR?! It’s the best selling unit of the big 3

Crikey, mates!
I used the 150W one this week, which also has a USB port, and it worked fine.
I’m afraid to leave it plugged in all the time, because it’s cheap, but I’ve never had a problem.
I think I also bought a 175W one as a backup, but I’ve never opened it.
Just in case,

Angela Lansbury…sigh.
The one I got emits a really foul electrical odor, even after keeping it on after an hour with the windows open (bad when it is raining). Is that the case for others?
I had it pkugged in over a road trip and the tip fell off and lost it…
Now that I’m wanting to use it, I forgot where I put it! Crap!
