@eeterrific sorry to be serious and boring, but take the time to compare the image quality and specs to a different model of Canon, T2i, T3i, T4i, T5i, etc. I think you will find its worth the money to spend a bit more. My T2i is old but still gives me no reasons to upgrade…
@eeterrific I would have. Looking to replace my T3i. I was really excited for half a second, then slightly disappointed. This happens to me more than I’d like to admit, and I ought to check more closely the first time, but I still don’t.
Nah, I’m a point and shoot kinda guy. Got a point and shoot Nikon, just pictures for me, to remind me of things I’ve done and places I’ve been. Phone is good for unplanned moments. Plus, phones are easy to swipe.
@thismyusername $10 new shipped at my site, and it is the2nd edition. We used to do audio books, and were called Audio Computer Information, now condensed down to ACPress. I still get letters meant for the editor of the Atlantic City Press paper complaining about casinos!
Oohh boy, I am tempted to upgrade from my Rebel XT–a paltry 8 megapixels, no video, no nothin’. That model’s a whole decade old now. But so much money…
@grazapin If we’re going to fight over grammar, the proper way to compare the numbers is with the phrase “as large”, not “larger.” If one sensor has, say, 5 megapixels and the other 10, then it is two times as large. If you said “two times larger” then if they were both 5mp then logically they’d be “one times larger” than each other, which obviously sounds ridiculous.
Great camera, but meh nonetheless. Because for the meager savings, I want to deal with Canon directly after the sale, Not a mediocre customer service support that has nothing to do with cameras or repairs.
@Woody1 IME, Register the camera as having been received as a gift and Canon will honor the warranty. More than likely, Canon will honor the warranty in any case - Meh is just acting as a secondary guarantor IF the purchaser might have any issues with warranty as the camera is sold through a non-authorized (by Canon) channel / retailer. Which is actually pretty damn decent of them to do . . .
Where did I indicate I typed it with a straight face?
The heart of the issue is with Canon and is absolutely TL;DR and I’m not going to launch into here as there are megaposts / discussions about Canon and warranty on more than a handful of forums.
Someday the CPU will be powerful enough to use a plenoptic imaging system (i.e. a lightfield camera, like a Lytro). Then all that pesky lens/aperture stuff would just be calculated in software.
Imagine if the whole phone was covered in microscopic lightfield sensors (enough so that you could cover them with your fingers and still get a high resolution image). Hold it up in front of the subject (orientation would not be that important). The phone could then calculate almost any possible photograph taken from that vantage point, including ones that look exactly like a dSLR took them.
@awk Someday I’ll be able to climb my ass into a transporter and be in Europe in seconds, until then, I guess I’ll have to make due with flying there in an airplane
@Dizavid the more valuable the product the more it’s going to cost and the lower the percentage a feasible discount will be. We’re literally talking a camera that hasn’t even been through a Christmas sale season yet, it was released in April of this year at an MSRP of $550, it’s not some overstock closeout type of product. I really think you need to adjust your expectations.
I just picked up a Canon 6D, so I’m not really the target audience for this model. But, hey, sell this again once my 3 year old can hold a real camera!
I picked up that Nabi you sold back in July and he LOVES taking photos, so we’ll see how he keeps on with that.
Here’s a shot he took of his brother with that Nabi for when people need a point of reference the next time you carry them…
@haydesigner For being(almost) 3 you can tell he already takes intentional shots which is half the battle, really. I’ve got an SL1 on a tripod for him and he LOVES giving his mother and I direction on how to pose for his shots.
Nice. I’ve got a Nikon already which I rarely use. But I do pop it out occasionally for special events. Definitely superior pictures to my iPhone. I do feel like everyone should own a DSLR so they can see and learn how to take much better pictures. It is just fun in my opinion as well.
But the camera companies are either doomed or they need to radically shift their business model. iPhone cameras just keep getting better. And there seems to be little end in sight to their improvement. Hopefully the companies can survive on just selling a tickler of DSLRs. But definitely they should phase out all smaller point and shoots. No need for those anymore.
@JonCBK I’m in the same boat with you.I have a Canon EOS 70D. Although it takes great photos, especially with regards to lower light and sports events (or other high motion shots), the convenience of the camera on you phone is hard to pass up. You’re right, the little point & shoots are really no better than a good camera phone and really could be phased out at some point- but a DSLR type still offers better and larger sensors, better optics. I like using my DSLR and would rather take pictures with it, but I hate lugging the thing around.
@JonCBK It’s definitely a shrinking market. But until smartphones can commonly achieve a true 10X optical zoom, I feel there’s reason for compact standalone cameras to exist. That and the fact that smartphone cameras are so dependent on software. Most (presumably) don’t shop smartphones based on whether the camera has decent manual control, because auto is good enough for most situations.
@JohnKiniston I would call this a lateral move for the most part. It’s a larger camera body, but it has the Digic 4+ processor where the SL1 is a Digic 5(making the SL1 process slightly more quickly). If she’s used to the touchscreen functionality of the SL1 for making adjustments there will probably be a learning curve.
All in all, it’s probably 6 of 1 and half dozen of the other for the average user of this range of camera.
@jbartus Sandisk Ultra Class 10 is what I bought her, She has another card but I don’t know what vendor or speed it is. The Sandisks are SDHC in the adapter they come with.
@JohnKiniston adapter meaning they’re actually Micro SDHC? You bought the right brand and the Ultras are a good line though I shoot Extremes myself, I think the problem might be with your adapter. By having to use an adapter you’re adding a whole other set of contacts into the middle of the transfer that could be dirty or just have a poor connection causing issues with the transfer. The SL1 is a solid camera and is generally speaking superior to the T6.
The whole world of cameras is shifting as Photokina press day is almost upon us. Tons of “mirrorless” cameras with removable lenses, etc. But I’m having lots of fun with my recent (refurb) Fuji with a fixed 24mm-600mm lens and all kinds of goodies. Even for grab shots, it works well. This doesn’t mean I wouldn’t mind some $1,400 camera body and $800 lens. Gotta write and sell more books.
@rottenchester T2i is not the T2 and it was a speculative statement, it’s not like they dug out the model number and compared the two. Also from that same review:
Let’s be clear, there’s nothing inherently wrong with a six year old sensor.
you can take fantastic photos with a six year old sensor
Major prizes have been won by pictures taken with a six year old sensor.
And a camera’s sensor is just one specification, albeit an important one, of many to consider.
There have been a lot of improvements in other areas that benefit the camera more than just the sensor and as this is literally the bottom dollar entry level model expecting latest greatest technology is just unrealistic.
@compunaut You can spool 120 film onto a 620 spool. I personally think there are probably better uses of 120 film, but yeah… if you really wanted to you could shoot a Brownie.
@haydesigner It was sorta marketed as a ‘bridge’ camera, slotted between DSLR & point-and-shoot. Significantly more features than PaS (especially separate viewfinder).

I had a Canon Rebel 5Ti but it was stolen earlier this year. While I primarily used it for family events, I haven’t felt myself since it’s been gone. What’s the difference between the Rebel 6Ti and the Rebel 6s?

1 Year Canon
You rebel you - picture that !!
@AttyVette
DSLRs are fine, in and of them self, but for all around convenience, I prefer point-and-meh.
Megapixels are so 2015. Give me micropixels any day of the week, save Grunsday.
I bought it last time. And I love it! Oops… I mean, Meh. Whatever.
Nice, but too much expensive for me. Pictures are worth a thousand words, but a book has thousands and thousands of words for less money.
These are great cameras. I had one, just moved up to the 70d.
these will sellout in , um, minutes
Sorry meh, no “i”, no deal…
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/canon-eos-rebel-t6i-dslr-camera-with-ef-s-18-55mm-is-stm-lens-black/3514031.p
@mehdaf so if it was an iCanon, you’d buy it?
@eeterrific sorry to be serious and boring, but take the time to compare the image quality and specs to a different model of Canon, T2i, T3i, T4i, T5i, etc. I think you will find its worth the money to spend a bit more. My T2i is old but still gives me no reasons to upgrade…
@mehdaf Same here. My old T2i has almost identical specs, and shoots continuously faster than the T6. Sensor and almost everything else is the same. Who needs WiFi?
http://cameradecision.com/compare/Canon-EOS-Rebel-T6-vs-Canon-EOS-550D
@eeterrific I would have. Looking to replace my T3i. I was really excited for half a second, then slightly disappointed. This happens to me more than I’d like to admit, and I ought to check more closely the first time, but I still don’t.
Aw, man! If only I didn’t already have a Canon DSLR that I never use I’d totally buy this (and never use it).
Nah, I’m a point and shoot kinda guy. Got a point and shoot Nikon, just pictures for me, to remind me of things I’ve done and places I’ve been. Phone is good for unplanned moments. Plus, phones are easy to swipe.
@eeterrific wait, are you intending to swipe someone’s phone?
@mehdaf smiley-face…
@eeterrific
You got a Nikon camera?
You love to take a phoooootograph?
. . . and still never a smiley click-face. I am increasingly impressed.
I Cannot afford this
@cmafba You mean like iCannot? But you don’t need airpods with this…
If all of you would buy my book, I could afford to buy this camera. Or not. It’s “How To Use The Digital Camera You Just Bought.” Clever, huh?
@radi0j0hn $9.99 + $4 shipping for used, good god man I just dropped $400 on a camera… do you think I am made of money???
@thismyusername $10 new shipped at my site, and it is the2nd edition. We used to do audio books, and were called Audio Computer Information, now condensed down to ACPress. I still get letters meant for the editor of the Atlantic City Press paper complaining about casinos!
Nothing witty to contribute. Don’t need. I’m a Nikon guy anyhow.
@huja wait the lens aren’t interchangeable between Nikon and Canon?
Oohh boy, I am tempted to upgrade from my Rebel XT–a paltry 8 megapixels, no video, no nothin’. That model’s a whole decade old now. But so much money…
@currawong Ditto!
I have the Rebel XT as well. Guess i will wait. Hmmmm.
Nice to see Meh still taking a huge shit on Internet minimum advertised price policies.
Copied from page…
“And you bought…
1 of these.
There’s still some left.
That’s $431 total.”
So…price is indicated to be $394…so what’s the $37 difference? Am I missing something?
@eeterrific Tax is applied to the purchase price when the item purchased is shipped to select jurisdictions.
@Pavlov thx
@eeterrific @Pavlov lucky tejas and california
@thismyusername, there are much worse states to live in.
Wait… you included Texas in there, didn’t you? Dammit, I missed that. I may need to re-evaluate my first sentence.
The d3200 last year was the stealiest of deals.
“…its sensor is orders of magnitude larger than the iPhone 7.”
One order of magnitude would be 10 times larger. Two orders would be x100. Is this sensor actually 100 or more times larger?
@grazapin that’s the most common use but using 10 isn’t mandated by the term
@grazapin Despite 10 not being necessarily implied, I wouldn’t put it past them. Compare:
https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/iPhone+7+Teardown/67382 (Have fun finding the image sensor)
(Easier to pick out on this one https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/iPhone+7+Plus+Teardown/67384 but they specifically mentioned the 7)
vs
https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Canon+EOS+Rebel+T5+Image+Sensor+Replacement/51574 (The thing in the hand, and that’s just the T5).
Dunno about “orders of magnitude”, but it’s still not very big in comparison. From the ifixit page you linked:
https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Image/meta/NZHsQBnkHGUdk2UT
@grazapin The sensor in this camera APS-C is about 14-15x larger than an iphones sensor, so a little more than 1 magnitude.
Went to a bar with some buddies. The four of us all order shots of Magnitude. So “orders” would be at least 8x.
@grazapin This thing is huge! It says it’s sensor is larger than the iPhone 7 not the sensor in the iPhone 7! Oh Meh, OhMeh, OhMmmmmmmmmeh.

@Pavlov
Crazy world we live in, where one can type with a straight face to lie about something to get someone else to “honor” the lie.
Our kids are watching.
@MehnofLaMehncha My kid isn’t.
@MehnofLaMehncha
Where did I indicate I typed it with a straight face?
The heart of the issue is with Canon and is absolutely TL;DR and I’m not going to launch into here as there are megaposts / discussions about Canon and warranty on more than a handful of forums.
not that anyone here is taking requests…
but here’s my request:
/image nikon fancy lenses
for d3200, or whatever you sold
memeh./image preferably something for the moon
@Yoda_Daenerys I love how it gave you a Canon lens.
I second, third and fourth @Yoda_Daenerys request for @Nikon lenses, or better yet, a good LARGE camera backpack!!
[HintHintHint @snapster] :
Decent deal. I’m a Nikon fan personally.
Include a 300mm telephoto for that price and I’ll be impressed.
@eyesee5769 What a sport !
@jmbunkin Old camera with old sensor and mediocre performing lens. More is better.
i gotta say it- this thing is absolutely useless for margaritas…
@alacrity
Take amazing pictures of margaritas!!

@awk I wonder if lens/sensor production will ever be inexpensive and consistent enough for this to be plausible. Because that would be neat.
@awk Someday I’ll be able to climb my ass into a transporter and be in Europe in seconds, until then, I guess I’ll have to make due with flying there in an airplane
Forget the camera, I’ll take the giraffe.
@koifish
No way. Creepy purple tongues!
Too expensive and not enough of a discount.
@Dizavid the more valuable the product the more it’s going to cost and the lower the percentage a feasible discount will be. What @jbartus said.
50 sold so far. Hope to see the fine folks at meh.com turn a high profit today to keep the site running.
@wickhameh:
People bought 198 of these.
That’s $80793 total.
@haydesigner I had a good feeling when CNET featured this as the cheapskate’s deal of the day. Thanks, Rick!
I’d love one of these, but the bank account’s saying “nope.” I love my old 10MP Olympus DSLR, but it’s way past its warranty.
Coincidentally enough, I’m working an alternate schedule today so I can go do headshots for an actor friend.

@JonCBK, $100-$150 for a real good point and shoot… versus $700 for the latest iPhone? (Or latest Android, minus $100 or so.)
Everything will become obsolete someday. Including phones. DSLRs will still be around for quite a while.
@JonCBK I’m in the same boat with you.I have a Canon EOS 70D. Although it takes great photos, especially with regards to lower light and sports events (or other high motion shots), the convenience of the camera on you phone is hard to pass up. My Girlfriend has a Rebel SL1 that’s giving her problems, Would this be a upgrade for her?
@JohnKiniston I would call this a lateral move for the most part. It’s a larger camera body, but it has the Digic 4+ processor where the SL1 is a Digic 5(making the SL1 process slightly more quickly). If she’s used to the touchscreen functionality of the SL1 for making adjustments there will probably be a learning curve.
All in all, it’s probably 6 of 1 and half dozen of the other for the average user of this range of camera.
@dergreg Thank you!
@JohnKiniston what’s the SL1 giving her trouble with?
@jbartus Corrupt photos, She’s tried multiple cards. It’s only when shooting rapidly.
The camera will occasionally show an error on he screen about the card but usually she just looses entire runs of photos due to corrupt files.
We took it to a local repair place but they just wanted to sell her a new camera after we paid their $75 diagnostic.
@JohnKiniston what brand cards? What class?
Is this Grey matket?
@bobscho
/image matket
The whole world of cameras is shifting as Photokina press day is almost upon us. Tons of “mirrorless” cameras with removable lenses, etc. But I’m having lots of fun with my recent (refurb) Fuji with a fixed 24mm-600mm lens and all kinds of goodies. Even for grab shots, it works well. This doesn’t mean I wouldn’t mind some $1,400 camera body and $800 lens. Gotta write and sell more books.
Here’s a fairly in-depth review: https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canon-eos-rebel-t6-1300d-review
Basically they packaged up the sensor of the 2010 T2 into this camera to get it to a price point.
@rottenchester T2i is not the T2 and it was a speculative statement, it’s not like they dug out the model number and compared the two. Also from that same review:
There have been a lot of improvements in other areas that benefit the camera more than just the sensor and as this is literally the bottom dollar entry level model expecting latest greatest technology is just unrealistic.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Bought it last time and I love it!
I don’t trust this new-fangled technology. I’ll stick with my tried and true manual camera thank you.
@driver8 Mmmmm, Brownie. Love that light bleed.
@driver8 Haha. You’re joking, aren’t you? Is there any way to still get film for such a thing?
Here’s my manual camera:
/image Olympus OM-1
and my digital camera (I believe @radi0j0hn helped convince me to buy it @woot about 4yr ago):
/image Kodak EasyShare Z990
@compunaut You can spool 120 film onto a 620 spool. I personally think there are probably better uses of 120 film, but yeah… if you really wanted to you could shoot a Brownie.
@compunaut, those Kodaks had GREAT lenses for point and shoots. Still sad that company went belly up…
@haydesigner It was sorta marketed as a ‘bridge’ camera, slotted between DSLR & point-and-shoot. Significantly more features than PaS (especially separate viewfinder).
@compunaut I know, it was termed a “pro-sumer” camera. I had a couple, and LOVED the huge optical zoom.
Such a big sale!
(hollboll edit, FTFY)
you know its a great camera when there is fork and knife shooting mode!
also where are all the food and drink related emojis?
@username no kitten
mode no deal.
@pajamma but it has both the sports mode and the knife and fork mode
God how I wish I could afford this.
Nikon fanboy for 48 years, so "neh."
Also, beware of grey market cameras- no US warranty could be a real bummer…
This camera is actually a very nice camera that lots of professionals use and it’s a great buy here. Your phone won’t come even close to taking pictures this quality.
I had a Canon Rebel 5Ti but it was stolen earlier this year. While I primarily used it for family events, I haven’t felt myself since it’s been gone. What’s the difference between the Rebel 6Ti and the Rebel 6s?
So how long does processing take on MEH orders?
@tfreakburg Estimated Delivery: Monday, October 3rd - Thursday, October 6th
Think they still have processing time to spare, eh?
@brhfl somehow never saw that… thanks!
Hi Meh,
I have bought this camera and my order no is amicable-furious-jupiter

Thank you meh i received my camera.
For those of you looking for a Canon for Christmas, dealnews.com has been telling me about deals including some on the T6s, T5i, and 80D.
I tell myself, I don’t NEED a camera.
