@CBL_WV@IndifferentDude Well, the way I see it, you’re saving a penny. Then you may be saving another penny on tax, depending on what state you’re in.
That’s just my 2 cents.
@lwheatcraft Actually, most of my purchases do end in .00 !! (eventually ). You see, I have a debit card that is from a Credit Union with a handy option called “Spare Change Jar”. Almost every purchase I make is rounded up to the next dollar and the amount used to round up is put into the spare change jar (a special account) that actually pays 2% interest on the balance!! It makes it easy to balance my checkbook too since almost every transaction ends in .00 after it’s rounded up!! Pretty neat, eh?
@SnakeJG you can use them via Bluetooth, or you can plug them in if you want to. I have them and use them wireless all the time. I haven’t tested out the corded feature yet.
I bought these in June and so far I have no complaints. They don’t give me any trouble pairing with Bluetooth. The sound isn’t great, but I don’t need it to be great, really. It’s good enough for me to watch some TV shows. So far the battery life has been good too.
Check my account, Meh. You know I buy all the headphones. Not this time, though. $X.99 means you think we are idiots. At least it helps this idiot think twice, lol.
@defective Actually one cent cheaper today than back in June, when it was $39.00 for a 2 pack, vs the $38.99 currently. So, the “marketing gimmick” isn’t to wheedle another 99 cents from us, but maybe to make us think at first glance that they are a buck cheaper than they are, and thus entice the sale.
But that doesn’t mean I endorse the $X.99 pricing either.
They’re not bad headphones and not at a bad price, it’s just whether you want to play the pricing game or not.
So basically, it’s a test to see how committed you are to refusing the $.99 price point. For instance, would you refuse to buy an IRK if it was $4.99?? I kind of hope so as it would help increase my odds of getting one.
Hey @snapster – how about trying that out -after you filter all those who bitched about the $.99 out of the running from getting one!
@OC_Dude Not huge. Inside dimension is about 6cm high by 4.5cm wide by 2cm deep. Pads are comfortably squishy and compress by 1cm. Pad donut is about 2cm wide. For my old man elephant ears, the pad overlaps the bottom part of my ear, but everything is squishy enough that it’s reasonably comfortable and sound isolating.
@IndifferentDude@SnakeJG Go for broke, and have a 99-cent Sunday 'Thon of nothing but 99-cent-store crap in multiples of a dozen, twenty, etc. We can all sleep in, ignore it, and wake up fresh and ready to tackle a little grilling.
Pfffttt. They are playing around again, trying to find how much annoyance we’ll put up with… I’m about done. It’s sad for me, but I don’t really need any more toys or electronics, I’ve mostly been staying around for the odd this-and-that. But I feel like Meh is just toying with us, now. Starting a while ago, but definitely when they plied the increasing-priced IRKs during that Mehrathon.
This isn’t much “fun” anymore. @Snapster, please stop this shit. Please…
Got these earlier in the year, noise canceling was great to block the noise of my AC unit, but it only can be activated in wireless mode, which was hugely disappointing and forced me to use my janky bluetooth adapter for my PC if I was listening to anything not on my phone. Utterly no excuse for disabling the feature in wired mode, huge oversight in my book.
Also the frame piece completely broke and they’re now useless until I can consider fixing them, although my head size is on the large side when it comes to headphones. I really wish they’d stop prioritizing portability with making full-size headsets that can fold up into a carry bag and instead make something that actually is one-size-fits-all
@a1paddler
I have two pair of ANC units (different brands) that I have been meaning to try out on the mower. I generally use a pair of Ifrogz Sound Hub XD2 (from meh) under a pair of cheap hearing protectors that work well for me.
Bought these in June. Without a doubt, the worst sounding headphones I’ve ever used, bar none. Listening to music is terrible. Noise cancelling is good, but for anything other than audio books they are unusable
Bought these for my husband. Low end. Poor quality. One set fell apart after only a month. Invest in a Bose set. Have had for 5 years and still working well.
I don’t use them much so I don’t know if they’d fall apart with a lot of use, but I am very happy so far. The cord is needed to plug into airplane entertainment. They are light and comfortable.
@DennisFreeman Someone else noted that noise cancellation is over Bluetooth only, not wired mode, making it exceedingly useless for airplane usage.
That said, Amazon is littered with $20 Bluetooth adapters with 8 hour batteries. So you plug that into the airplane’s entertainment system, and voila, wireless headphones!
On the other hand, if you’re willing to spend $20 on that adaptor, may as well buy a decent headphone.
Back in June, with non-99 pricing, they pushed 801 of these out the door. Now it’s October, coming into the early phases of the Spend Too Much season, and they appear to be on pace to hit maybe two-thirds of that. Is it the Meh quality? The ennui with the whole makes-sounds-near-ear category? The early signs of the onrushing total economic collapse into global chaos that there’s always someone predicting? The 99-cent pricing that makes some of the Mehtizens actively avoid buying? Something else? Or is it “all of the above” in locally-variable amounts? The latter is my guess.
I support your ending in .99 prices, makes me feel like this is a “regular” shopping site. Probably easier to sneak a few “why did you think you needed that” purchases past my significant other.
@marvelljones@werehatrack
if you ever have a chance to visit that castle (Doune Castle in Scotland), they have a pair of coconut halves at the ticket booth you can use to re-enact the approach. You can also stand on that parapet…
Bought these in June. Pretty happy with them, and I tend to grab these more than other pairs I own. Generally use them to listen to music while I work (other people are watching TV), or to watch something different than the household.

@IndifferentDude This is certainly trying my patience… What’s next, 97¢, like Walmart???
@CBL_WV @IndifferentDude Well, the way I see it, you’re saving a penny. Then you may be saving another penny on tax, depending on what state you’re in.
That’s just my 2 cents.

@IndifferentDude Keep complaining, they’ll use two random digits at the end of each price but they’ll never be zeroes. Fairly simple to do that.
@IndifferentDude What a strange thing by which to be bothered. Do most of your credit card purchases end in $.00?
@lwheatcraft Actually, most of my purchases do end in .00 !! (eventually

I’m confused, does the hybrid mean they can be wired or wireless? They seem to come with a cord
@SnakeJG you can use them via Bluetooth, or you can plug them in if you want to. I have them and use them wireless all the time. I haven’t tested out the corded feature yet.
@SnakeJG It appears the noise cancelling is “hybrid” but also, these are wireless AND can be used with a cable connection, so they’re doubly hybrid?
But yeah, they got that super bass…
@LaserEyes @SnakeJG You lose the microphone when you use the cord.
@LaserEyes @SnakeJG @werehatrack Surprised the cord doesn’t have an inline mic.
@LaserEyes @PooltoyWolf @SnakeJG If there was one in the cord that came with my set, I didn’t see it. And it must have been turned off by default.
@LaserEyes @SnakeJG @werehatrack I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t put one in the cord, either. Heh
@LaserEyee
If I look straight into your eyes without using some sort of eye protection, do I go blind?
Noise II Men! That was a good one!
$24 or $39.
@phendrick![:face_with_hand_over_mouth:](https://dj5zo597wtsux.cloudfront.net/joypixels/assets/6.6/png/unicode/64/1f92d.png)
And the price that stuck in my mind was $23.00 & $38.00.
Guess I’m just a brunette that’s having a blonde moment.
@phendrick
@Lynnerizer You did exactly what they were hoping you’d do!
@Kyeh @phendrick
I’ve been standing in front of the mirror for hours trying to scrub the huge SUCKER stamp off my forehead.![:joy:](https://dj5zo597wtsux.cloudfront.net/joypixels/assets/6.6/png/unicode/64/1f602.png)

@chienfou @defective @phendrick @snapster I have a pair. I don’t need the 99 to make me avoid getting another. I don’t want a spare.
I bought them a while ago for the noise canceling feature. That’s about the only thing they do well. As headphones, they’re excedingly meh
Ninety NEIN!
What is the size of the ear cup. I need to fit old man elephant ears.
@OC_Dude Fascinating. I actually have to fit an elephant with man ears.
@OC_Dude Not huge. Inside dimension is about 6cm high by 4.5cm wide by 2cm deep. Pads are comfortably squishy and compress by 1cm. Pad donut is about 2cm wide. @IndifferentDude I am hoping for $4.99 irks
@IndifferentDude Next meh-rathon should be “Party like it’s 1999” themed and have all prices ending in .99
meh, feel free to send me some swag in thanks for this great idea!
@IndifferentDude @SnakeJG Go for broke, and have a 99-cent Sunday 'Thon of nothing but 99-cent-store crap in multiples of a dozen, twenty, etc. We can all sleep in, ignore it, and wake up fresh and ready to tackle a little grilling.

@CBL_WV Your observations are amplified by the choice of today’s side deal item.
Bought in June. Noise cancelling is decent, similar to other low-end ANC headphones.
Wired sound quality is reasonably neutral, with some bass emphasis and a mild high roll-off (but no ANC).
Wireless sounds like the bass is routed through “that guy”'s car, while the vocal range is routed through a telephone–weird boost in the high-mids.
I wouldn’t recommend them for listening to a broad range of music.
Got these earlier in the year, noise canceling was great to block the noise of my AC unit, but it only can be activated in wireless mode, which was hugely disappointing and forced me to use my janky bluetooth adapter for my PC if I was listening to anything not on my phone. Does anyone use these while mowing?

Hey meh - I, for one, am enjoying Experiment 99. With all that is going on in the world, I find all the (melo)drama over ±1 penny amusing.![:slight_smile:](https://dj5zo597wtsux.cloudfront.net/joypixels/assets/6.6/png/unicode/64/1f642.png)

An hour and a half left, and the count is sitting well below half of the June level. Looks like the staff has some heads to scratch.

I use these to watch movies on my iPad while my husband watches sports in the same room. No problem at all. I love them for that purpose.
