An extra special Sunday

Playing off of yesterday’s poll, yesterday was an extra special Sunday.

We had an unexpected guest at our church meetings, President Dallin Oaks of the First Presidency. (On the left in the photo.) He’s second in Church leadership next to President Russell Nelson (center).

So for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, this is kind of like having the Pope show up unannounced at your local congregation. But no retinue, just an unobtrusive driver/security person.

He said that when he doesn’t have other assignments on a Sunday, like Stake or General Conferences, he likes to drop in on local congregations. Then he said: “If I visit a class that you’re teaching, just pretend I’m not there. I like to see what happens when I’m not here.”

He’s got a sharp mind (but that’s kind of a given with his prior legal career), and a keen wit.
