Amazon Home Services – pay people to do stuff for you
4I got an email about Amazon Home Services earlier today and didn't think much of it, since Amazon seems to be launching new crap and sending me emails about it all the time.
I had actually stumbled upon this before the announcement email when I found this service for Goat grazers while doing some Meh research and thought it was some kind of early April Fool's joke.
Well it's real and from my initial searches the prices seem a little insane:
$100 to have someone plug in your Xbox
$150 to have someone run MalwareBytes once
$135 to have someone put together your Ikea bed
$60 for installing 1-2 door knobs
$60 for an oil change
and probably my favorite, that oft-necessary service of Table Tennis Table Assembly for the low, low price of $180
I know I'm picking and choosing the dumbest services they're offering but…is anyone gonna use this?
What do you think?

I personally wouldn't go for it, but I'd bet that the up-front pricing and Amazon "guarantee" would be enough to make some people take the plunge.
@JonT You aren't thinking about starting your own goat grazing business and hiring us goats out in order to make some quick cash on the side? If you are, purple bad on you!
Allow anonymous strangers into my house? Sure! What could possibly go wrong?
Took a look and after the minor depression that there appear to be no Goats near my zip code available, I realized there are no any services near my zip code. Couldn't find a single one with a price. I guess that means I could make a killing farming out my services putting together ikea table tennis beds with built in xbox's.
@Nikodemus None near here, either. I suppose as more people sign up it'll get more competitive. Hopefully.
Installing security cameras 1 only $229.99, 5 to 8 only $879.99. Seems great if only I had some camera that needed installed.
Battery operated smoke/carbon monoxide detector only $100 if it is wired add $5
Few services offered in my area. I wonder what the certification costs are and the referral fees if you get approved.
$135 for Ikea bed assembly? Two things:
1) That's more expensive than most Ikea beds.
2) I bough an Ikea bed and was putting it together while I was brewing the Meh Brewbattle Wheat beer. I would have paid double to get that off my task list.
I'll take them up on that $60 oil change. My Lexus dealer wants $160 claiming that the oil is expensive synthetic. I can buy a case of it for $40 or less so that plus $60 is still 37.5% savings.
What do they charge to have someone remove Amazon from my life? I hate those fuckers.
The very first Ikea in the U.S. is about 20 minutes from me. When it opened (technically it's in it's second location, having moved to a larger building some time back) I actually had the brilliant idea of starting my own business as a paid assembler. I planned on creating flyers and putting them on people's cars in the parking lot. I wasn't concerned about being insured or bonded, I just wanted to make some extra money. I actually enjoy crazy shit like putting together their furniture. Alas, I never pursued my dream and now when you go into Ikea they offer contractors/goats you can hire to do just what I wanted to oh so many years ago.
