@eVil That’s weird. Not only did I think this was where the poll was going when I saw the question, “moo” was indeed the choice I optioned for in my head. (not sure why)
Depends. Right now I put a memory foam pillow under my head and a flat polyester one to my side.
My favorite pillow is a feather one which keeps me cool and best when I fold it. Sometimes I would use two feather pillows without folding and sleep well too.
It wasn’t until I had feathers pointing out of a pillow and read reports that animals were tortured to get the feathers that I stopped. I’ve been looking for something similar without feathers ever since. I thought one made from recycling materials would be a neat way to find it, but it ended up giving me neck problems so I use it as a prop pillow.
I sleep with approximately seven pillows: one under my shoulder, one between shoulder and head, another supporting my sizeable gut, another to hug with my upper-side arm, another between my legs so they don’t stick together in the hellish year-round Arizona heat, and then one or two more supporting my outflung lower-side arm so my elbow doesn’t get stiff, because I move slightly less than a corpse when I’m sleeping.
As little as three years ago it used to be like four pillows, but I keep putting new ones in different places around the bed, and it keeps getting comfier, and I find it difficult to go back to fewer pillows.
Head on one end, shoulder on the other end. Need a king size pillow to do this comfortably. Trying to sleep on hotel pillows (which are usually standard size) is miserable.
I also like a really soft pillow, but have a very difficult time finding any. Big and fluffy, but super soft so my head sinks into it. The next time I find a comfortable pillow I like, I’m gonna buy enough to last my conceivable lifetime!
The last one I really liked came from Walmart of all places. And it was only like $18 or so. Bought it in Fort Collins, CO because the hotel pillows were so awful. Tiny, flat, and hard as a rock. I was flying, so I had to leave it behind at the hotel. I tried to find the same pillow in town when I got home, but none of the stores here carried it.
@mollama I thought about that. The problem: I left the pillow behind in the hotel and didn’t think to take note of brand/model info. As difficult as it is for me to find a pillow I’m comfortable with, it would prolly have been worth the cost of a airfafe back to Ft. Collins to buy more pillows and ship them home with me.
A shaped memory foam pillow under my head, a big, fluffy poly fill pillow that I wrap my arms around while laying on my side. I discovered that when I was having gall bladder problems, it was the only way to keep pressure off that area. I no longer have a gall bladder, but I still sleep hugging a pillow. I’ve been looking for a good stuffed animal for that role, but pillows work best.
My husband likes at least 4 pillows (2-3 under head) but doesn’t always use all 4. So some times 2 end up on my side where my head is (I like 1 under head, 1 between knees). I may lay down not noticing, but within 30 seconds realize my head/neck is all out of whack due to too many pillows. I don’t know how he/you people sleep with all those pillows under head.
Down for my head. A mixture of feather and down to support my down pillow. A fairly stiff pillow for my back if I’m sitting up in bed, so I don’t heat up my down pillow. For my back when lying down, a small furry black mammal - WAIT A MINUTE! It’s the DOG! OUT! Ouuut, come on. Oh well, OK I guess, but if I turn over you have to move. Oh well…
1 pillow with which I inevitably smush up between the top of my head and the headboard with my arms underneath. I wish there was a pillow for stomach sleepers like the face pillows on massage tables.
One pillow under my head. That’s it. One regular, plain queen/standard size pillow to slightly elevate my head above the mattress since I’m a shoulder sleeper.
My sleep experience doesn’t seem to noticeably change if I’m using goose down, memory foam, fill foam, or any other pillow type I’ve encountered at hotels/short-term rentals.
Moo
@eVil Quack?

I put one under my head, but then another to my side/back depending on whether I’m sleeping on my back or side.

Would like to try out a bamboo one someday.

@ruouttaurmind tried Walmart.com? Our Walmart the last place i lived hardly ever carried what i needed that i could find on walmart.com.

My ideal Universe would be 99% pillows.
@UncleVinny And the remaining 1% divided equally between stale candy corn, Bluetooth speakers, pocket knives, and refrigerated batteries?
But then where would be put the fidget spinners?
Two under head, and a body pillow for hugging with arms and legs.
Lots of pillows piled all around me so that I sleep in my little nest
Why does the question assume pillows are only used at one part if the body? Meh really needs to allow check boxes for.multiple correct answers.
But is the mattress itself not a giant pillow?

Pillow goes on top of your face, to block the evil radiation.

All of the above.
I got some memory foam/gel ones from Costco that I like a lot.
@f00l I got bamboo pillows from meh that I hate.
The thesis is wrong. There is no “A” pillow. Lots, multiple pillows all the time. Everywhere. Pillows.
One for my head, and one to keep my bony knees from clacking together.

Next to your head as you smash your face in the mattress.
Under her hips and lower back,
