Agreed. No VESA, no interest. I already have two surprisingly reliable SEIKI SE39’s but it would have been nice to have scored a little smaller footprint with two VESA displays that easily fit on a sapper beam. Maybe black friday will turn up some same sized curved models.
If it matters, and you hate looking at spec minutia, and since I didn’t notice it mentioned on the front page, all these monitors are specified “refurbished” except the last one.
@DrunkCat A PMB for ~$10/month may be a very sound investment… Bonus if you hypothetically were to live very close to, but not actually in, a state with no sales tax.
I have the 4k monitor here. I was sad that it neither had the Vesa mount that the Phillips seems to, nor the table mount that the first AOC has (and that my prior AOC monitor had.) It does have the ability to run the left and right half of the screen from different sources though, which is fun. I ended up taking it to work, where my 9 year old video card can barely run it in 4k, but runs it OK at 2560x1440.
I also bought the AOC U2879VF from the previous sale, and I really like it! It’s not used for work or gaming, it’s a secondary display for productivity and extra windows & such, and everything (color, brightness, viewing angles, responsiveness) seems fine about it for that purpose, especially for the price. The lack of VESA mount is a bummer, but I knew that going in. During the last sale a guy advertised a home-made mount (that requires opening it up and detaching the included stand) but I didn’t want to bother with that. The only issue may be a flickering/artifacting issue that I began to experience after about a month of use (and not even particularly frequent use within that month) but I wasn’t able to narrow it down to the display or my PC, and after both tweaking a couple of settings on the monitor and opening a ticket with AOC support, the issue has not recurred. For the price, I think this is a sweet entry 4k panel. Get a 3rd-party extended warranty if you’re really concerned.
@Brooklyn11218 Ya, it’s like a little wired remote interface for the display settings with presets for favorite settings and OSD navigation controls.
SmartKeypad is a specially designed remote controller that connects to this Philips gaming display. It enables fast and convenient access to your gaming presets with 2 quick key access buttons, allowing you to save and activate two personalized custom settings either for gaming or other purposes. With additional up and down function keys, you can now easily navigate in the OSD menu and settings directly.
I have no interest in these items once so ever ,Meh i’m one of the 5-30 dollar guys and just a bit more if its deep discounted, sorry tonight isn’t the night but ty for the effort team meh.
So I need screen advice. I can’t do anything about it right now though as getting medical debt out of collection, so I don’t get care cut off, has to take priority (and this job is temp so financially not a wise move but I can always hope - right?). I have an older (as in apple care is long gone) 13" macbook air (pre retina screen although if money fell into my lap I’d love to get one with that). Anyway a pile of pixels are out, including in the central area of the screen, which is irritating. Also as I do some teaching online it is so much faster to grade using a bigger screen where I don’t have to toggle all the time. And a bigger monitor is cheaper than replacing my computer or fixing it…
What do I need to look for in a screen? I am going to be reading lots of poorly written student papers on it (yeah I know the screen won’t make them any better written but its irritating enough to read papers where students don’t try to do a decent job - that is a function of me being desperate and taking a job anywhere - but to be stuck having to zoom to say 130% on each and every paper to read it because the screen isn’t clear enough would add to the pain) as my primary use, also watch some videos and online free TV. Oh and make the occasional flip books for meh forum threads (grin - since you draw those with your finger I doubt anything will help that though). Does playing solitaire, mahjong and a few others like this count as gaming (LOL - never really even tried online gaming)?
In all seriousness, I really don’t know much about monitors. What is a credible place to read about how you figure out what features you need, would be nice, and would be serious overkill for a given purpose? And which brands tend to be better than others quality wise, longevity wise, reliability wise…?
As you can see from what @troy said above, as with the last AOC/Philips monitors we sold, these are refurbished. We had them marked as refurbished in the specs, but just added it to the title to make it more clear. Sorry about that. Feel free to write into CS (support@mediocre.com) if you hadn’t seen that and it makes the difference for you.
@L00nyLouie I contacted support this morning, and they were super quick to respond. There should be a slip in the packaging, but you can just go to www.aoc.com and fill out a form. Gonna get this out in the next few days.
@blandshee Hope it gets resolved! I did a quick search and on the aoc website it says the refurbished monitors 90 day warranty policy only pertains to monitors with pixel damage.
What is covered?
Product free from manufacturing defect due to the form, fit, and/or functions being out of manufacture product specification.
LED panel pixel defect exceeding the ISO 9241 – 307 Class 1 specifications.
Class 1 panels permit any or all of the following and is only considered a defect if it exceeds these qualifications:
1 full bright (“stuck on white”) pixel
1 full dark (“stuck off”) pixel
2 single or double bright or dark sub-pixels
3 to 5 “stuck on” or “stuck off” sub-pixels (depending on the number of each)
Something like a broken corner is said to not be covered.
What is not covered?
Store demo units, out of box sales, or those with no sales receipt.
Shipping damage occurs by transportation carrier from the store to consumer.
LED panel is cracked or broken.
Customer negligence.
Physical damage, accidents, and nature disasters.
My AOC G-Sync monitor came perfectly packaged and looked brand new… except there is a green stuck pixel staring me right in the face. I’ve never bought a monitor with a defective pixel. I might just try and resel it on EBay.
Busted 27" AOC arrived here today, too. Box was intact. Packaging was intact. Big ol’ crack across the lower left quadrant of the screen. I’m pretty sure it had to have been bad when they put it in the carton. Onward to the RMA process. Sigh.
@DrunkCat Yeah, the bubble pouch was pretty big, with lots of space for the monitor to shift around. It was inside a thin foam bag inside of the pouch, and that bag was also really oversized – I think I could almost fold it in half even with the monitor in it.
@laurict Yeah same here. The bubble sleeve was way too big for this monitor, one side could be perfectly protected but the other side isn’t long enough to reach that side pouch.
Hmm. Got my RMA, and it looks like I’m responsible for return shipping. UPS calculates it as around $20 at the low end. Think I’d have better luck pursuing my credit card’s purchase protection? (Edit: Nope. The credit card policy states: “The replacement or repair will be for no more than the original purchase price of the covered item less shipping and handling fees.”)
Well, I had the 27" AOC and it was physically in good shape, but after about 30 minutes the panel started acting all funny. Did an RMA, sent it in, meh worked with me on shipping, so all was good…or so I thought. Today I get an email saying it arrived damaged and the box was damaged. I have asked for pics because their solution is file a claim with UPS.
Wow I guess I’m not the only one. 27" AOC monitor – there was a small dent in the bottom of the box delivered by FedEx but it’s hard to tell if it’s shipping damage or just AOC shoveling off refurbs without checking in the hope that they work. Packaging is likely designed for a 32" monitor instead of a 27". The Meh CCR referred me to AOC and now I’m waiting for a response from them…
How did you guys make out with AOC support? The warranty says they don’t cover shipping damage, which all of this likely is… (they were packaged quite poorly).
@BillyMays They gave me an RMA. The boxed up monitor is still sitting my garage, waiting for me to make time to go to the UPS store to pay aroudn $25 to ship it back.
@laurict Let me know how it plays out for you. I can’t even seem to get an RMA number from them. I’m on the edge of doing a CC chargeback since meh hasn’t responded in three days.
Spoke to my CC company today, they told me that if AOC (or meh) will not provide a return waybill and want the monitors back, to let them know to dispute the transaction. MIght be worth looking into for you…
I ordered a Phillips monitor almost a month ago and while they did send it to me, it ultimately got lost in the mail before it got here. Meh support said a new order would be shipped to me. But that has not shipped and now no word has been sent to me since I emailed 12 days ago. I am absolutely disappointed in this website and have lost all faith in this team that is more witty than they are useful and/or helpful. I’ll now be buying a new monitor from newegg boys.
TLDR: Push back against AOC. They’ll issue you a return label, eventually.
Long version timeline, mostly duplicated in the thread above:
October 29: Ordered
November 8: Delivered, unboxed, discovered shattered screen, requested RMA from AOC
November 9: AOC requested photos and receipt. Submitted.
November 10: RMA issued by AOC. I balk at the shipping costs, which I assume to be about $20, and ask AOC for confirmation that it’s their intent that I pay to return it.
November 11-20: Silence
November 21: I suck it up and decide to ship it back on my dime, but UPS informs me that “my dime” will be $73.11. I e-mail AOC with alternative options (e.g., destruction with proof).
November 22-24: Silence
November 25: An automated e-mail from AOC, reminding me that my RMA expires after two weeks, like that’s really a thing.
November 26: I remind them of my November 21 e-mail.
November 27: Silence
November 28: I threaten to take it up with Meh or my credit card company. Two hours later, they issue a fully paid UPS label.
I’d like to think it was the threat of bringing in the heavies of Meh (instead of the credit card) that got this moving.
@laurict More followup:
November 28: Shipped it back to AOC
December 4: UPS reports delivered
December 5: AOC confirms receipt
December 6-17: Silence.
December 15: I ask what’s up.
December 18: AOC reports “your unit has been sent out.” Delivery is scheduled for December 26. Undamaged, I hope.
@DrunkCat If I were you I’d call CC company- there might not be anything you can do after the fact, but 70 bucks is worth a few minutes on the phone imo.
@DrunkCat Bleh, guess I didn’t really think that through. Things probably are more complicated since you didn’t directly give AOC any money. I’d still ask, but you’re probably right.
@Pantheist I did end up shooting them an e-mail today asking about it. Given the general response time though (my timeline is the same as everyone elses, I shipped them the bad monitor back in November 27 of last year and only just got it back today) I’m not holding my breath. Lessons for the future.
Damaged or defective AOC monitor, lines on the right edge. Was possible a damage claim but Meh advised to take it up with AOC. Took a few days after contact but AOC issued a prepaid UPS label and a day after receipt of the monitor (in NJ) they shipped what seems to be a new one (from CA) in the original box instead of an oversized generic one. Was quite surprised – maybe they ran out of refurbs to reship.
I RMA’d my G-sync monitor as soon as I received it in mid November due to damage to the screen. I just heard back from customer support that they did not have the means to repair my monitor and that I would instead be receiving a full refund via check for it. Since I paid for shipping there I asked about that and they said it would be refunded to once I provided a receipt. Overall a pretty disappointing experience since I never once got to use the product and its taken almost 7 weeks to resolve, but at least I got my money back.

I like question 6 of the quiz.
I was about to buy a pair of the AOC 27”, but noticed at the last moment: no VESA mounting options, so dual mount articulated brackets are out.
Agreed. No VESA, no interest. I already have two surprisingly reliable SEIKI SE39’s but it would have been nice to have scored a little smaller footprint with two VESA displays that easily fit on a sapper beam. Maybe black friday will turn up some same sized curved models.
A monitor is like a projector and a screen fused together!
Not a bad price for a G sync monitor, but there are no good prices for G sync monitors.
It should just be “myriad monitors.” I know, I know, who gives a damn.
Will these make vim look even more amazing? Will they protect me from emacs?
The cold snap must have forced the Meh buyers out of the dumpster.
so is the AOC 24" 144Hz G-Sync a refurb? condition is absent.
@thismyusername Yes, it is a refurb. Condition has been added – thanks for pointing that out!
@troy As long as you’re in the mood to fix stuff, any chance you could have a look at the broken link for the AOC 27” specs page?
@ruouttaurmind All set! Thanks! http://us.aoc.com/product_feature.php?id=43
Monitor?? Did you say monitor??
If it matters, and you hate looking at spec minutia, and since I didn’t notice it mentioned on the front page, all these monitors are specified “refurbished” except the last one.
I don’t see it.
I kinda wanna buy the IPS one but packages keep getting knicked.
@DrunkCat A PMB for ~$10/month may be a very sound investment… Bonus if you hypothetically were to live very close to, but not actually in, a state with no sales tax.
Do they come with a chunk of candy corn?
@daveinwarsh Candy corn dunnage.
So disappointing. I thought it said Minotaur.
I have the 4k monitor here. I was sad that it neither had the Vesa mount that the Phillips seems to, nor the table mount that the first AOC has (and that my prior AOC monitor had.) Update: the issue I wrote about may be with the cable I was using, rather than the monitor itself.
Anyone know what that mouse looking doodad is for the phillips?
@Brooklyn11218 Ya, it’s like a little wired remote interface for the display settings with presets for favorite settings and OSD navigation controls.
I have no interest in these items once so ever ,Meh i’m one of the 5-30 dollar guys and just a bit more if its deep discounted, sorry tonight isn’t the night but ty for the effort team meh.
I was about to pull the trigger on a 4k… Then I got smart and checked the pics. No VESA no dollars.
The AOC 27" is excellent. I bought one when meh sold them before, and it’s worked well. (I’m a developer). At this price, it’s a very good deal.
The Phillips, $5.88 more (the shipping there is free) and you have a new one via Amazon… instead of a refurbished one here.
@Kidsandliz The Philips is $390 on Amazon
and they’ll arrive before the fidget spinners no doubt…
So I need screen advice. What @Kidsandliz needs to do is bug a certain someone to make sure he gets his ass to the post office in one way, shape, or form.
Kinda like me bugging @snapster about the lack of catshirts. Eventually, it’ll happen.
@narfcake Oh yeah… I forgot about that. email me at my username at the usual yahoo so I can make sure you have my current address. Thanks.
As you can see from what @troy said above, as with the last AOC/Philips monitors we sold, these are refurbished. @dave I’ve written to the CS, but haven’t gotten any reply. Not sure how many days is normal for a reply.
Does the AOC G-Sync come with a DisplayPort cable?
@vincentchase Probably not, if it isn’t listed up there in the specs:
Perfect gift for my boy who is gaming on a 6-year-old 720p TV.

Which one is best? Anticipating buying a new computer with a Nvidia graphics card?
Or should I just wait and get a bigger screen later?
Thanks
nevermind seems the better ones are sold out
If so, you go to question four, not two. The second question could accidentally have you buying a 1080p instead if you have an NVIDIA.
There’s only one 4K, the one in question 4. Though it’s sold out now, so don’t pass Go. You missed out.
Btw, you misspelled the brand in question 4.
Unless you tricked Morning Me to buy a AOX.
Can we meh button just the description?
OWLRLY? You add that it is refurbished AFTER I purchased? 🤬
meh.
@gosh
They were refurbished the whole time, but they only added it to the listing title because people didn’t look at the specs carefully.
@mflassy what specs?
@gosh
These specs.
@mflassy I have specs blocker extension installed in my browser.
My 27in showed up broken today. Monitor shipped in bubble wrap. Refurb not likely packaged like a new one
@fahrbio same happened to me my monitor came in with a glitch in the bottom portion of the screen
Mine showed up broken as well, corner shattered and coming off the monitor. With the wrong AC adapter cord to boot.
@blandshee Yuck.
@blandshee
@fahrbio
How would you guys go about getting replacements with the warranty?
@L00nyLouie I contacted support this morning, and they were super quick to respond. There should be a slip in the packaging, but you can just go to www.aoc.com and fill out a form. Gonna get this out in the next few days.
@blandshee Hope it gets resolved! I did a quick search and on the aoc website it says the refurbished monitors 90 day warranty policy only pertains to monitors with pixel damage.
Something like a broken corner is said to not be covered.
But let me know if it works out!
@L00nyLouie Shit, they can try to weasel out, but seriously. There aint no credit card that won’t issue a chargeback on a damaged, unusable item.
Source: Fucking Federal Consumer Law.
@L00nyLouie I got my RMA number within 2 hours, so it’s all good. Thanks for the concern!
My AOC G-Sync monitor came perfectly packaged and looked brand new… except there is a green stuck pixel staring me right in the face. I’ve never bought a monitor with a defective pixel. I might just try and resel it on EBay.
@ermehgerd
Can’t make a mistake on the fucking internet…
*resell… assholes
Not the resel !
Apparently there is a bunch of fuckers with their jimmies all rustled over AOC moniters…
Surely, they are not fucking around trying to inspire FUD?
My AOC g-sync monitor came in an undamaged box bubble wrapped with the screen damaged in the upper corner Guess I have to file my RMA tomorrow
Just got my GSync monitor this weekend. I absolutely love. Nothing wrong with it whatsoever.
It really is fantastic; the high refresh rate alone is amazing coming from only 60 Hz panels!
Fuck yeah my package didn’t get knicked.
Fuck no it’s busted in the corner.

@DrunkCat And after a little bit of ETS2…
It got worse. Back into the box it goes.

Busted 27" AOC arrived here today, too. Box was intact. Packaging was intact. Big ol’ crack across the lower left quadrant of the screen. I’m pretty sure it had to have been bad when they put it in the carton. Onward to the RMA process. Sigh.
@laurict Out of curiosity was that bubble protective sleeve two sizes too big for the monitor?
@DrunkCat Yeah, the bubble pouch was pretty big, with lots of space for the monitor to shift around. It was inside a thin foam bag inside of the pouch, and that bag was also really oversized – I think I could almost fold it in half even with the monitor in it.
@laurict Yeah same here. The bubble sleeve was way too big for this monitor, one side could be perfectly protected but the other side isn’t long enough to reach that side pouch.

@laurict email support. Often when stuff is kaput you don’t have to send it back.
Well, I had the 27" AOC and it was physically in good shape, but after about 30 minutes the panel started acting all funny. Did an RMA, sent it in, meh worked with me on shipping, so all was good…or so I thought. Today I get an email saying it arrived damaged and the box was damaged. The Meh CCR referred me to AOC and now I’m waiting for a response from them…
Same problem. One with a busted corner, and one with a hairline crack.
My guess of $25 was way off. For the 13 lb package, try $62, plus $10 pickup charges.
I’ve e-mailed AOC back to see if I can just throw it away and provide them with more photos.

@laurict How’d it turn out?
@DrunkCat If I were you I’d call CC company- there might not be anything you can do after the fact, but 70 bucks is worth a few minutes on the phone imo.
@Pantheist You mean charge back the UPS?
@DrunkCat Bleh, guess I didn’t really think that through. Things probably are more complicated since you didn’t directly give AOC any money. I’d still ask, but you’re probably right.
@Pantheist Ended up fine. The replacement monitor is functional and undamaged. Only took about two months longer than I expected.
@Pantheist I did end up shooting them an e-mail today asking about it. Given the general response time though (my timeline is the same as everyone elses, I shipped them the bad monitor back in November 27 of last year and only just got it back today) I’m not holding my breath.
